Details

Yenwar Homestay occupies a shaded cove on Gam’s eastern shore, in the entrance to Kabui Bay.

Yenwar’s three bungalows share the sheltered bay with their neighbour Wobbegong Homestay.

One VIP bungalow with ensuite bathroom is available. The bungalow sleep two on raised beds. An extra mattress can be provided if required, and all the standard bedding and mosquito nets are supplied.

In addition to the VIP land bungalow, two newer over-water private bungalows are available. Guests in the over-water bungalow use a bathroom building on land. Bedding in February 2024 was mattresses on the floor. The over water bunglows can also sleep three if need be.

Meals are served in Yenwar Homestay’s beachside dining shelter. Drinking water and tea and coffee making supplies are always freely available to guests there.

Electricity is supplied from a generator that operates from sunset until around midnight.

A variable phone signal is available at Yenwar Homestay. Don’t expect uniterrupted data connectivity!

English is spoken at Yenwar Homestay.

The nearest villages are Friwen and Yenbeser. Both are about 15 minutes away by boat, and basic supplies are available there. Stronger 4G signals are also usually available at Yenbeser and Friwen.

Please don’t leave any inorganic trash at Yenwar Homestay. Inorganic waste (especially plastic) that is left at homestays will simply contribute to Raja Ampat’s growing rubbish problem.

Transport / Getting there

One way transfers between Yenwar Homestay and Waisai cost IDR 600,000. Transfers are by longboat that can carry a maximum of 4 people. Cost is shared by boat passengers.

Activities

There's great snorkelling around Yenwar Homestay. Dolphins, turtles and dugongs are often seen around the homestay.

Kabui Bay's attractions are easily accessible, and, like all homestays, Yenwar can provide snorkelling and sightseeing trips as desired.

  • Im sorry to say that we 100% would not recommend this homestay at this price or as described on the booking site

It did not represent the site. It was dirty, the bedding was dirty and damp, we got rained on at night, the chairs on the deck were unclean, the towels see-through and stained. The VIP ensuite bungalow was only a toilet, no dip mandi for washing. The ladel for rinsing the toilet was filthy too.

The smell through the bungalow and through to the terrace from the toilet was overwhelming sadly. There were rats and cockroaches…. which can be expected anywhere in RA to be fair.

The housereef was not fabulous either. It was passable.

We left after two sleepless nights and should have been there for five. Stayrajaampat.com did give a refund.

The food was very good though, so thank you. It gives me no pleasure to leave a bad review but, I would hate anyone else to book and be as disappointed as we were. I hope the family can make improvements to help their income soon. 🙏

  • If an authentic, remote, and off-the-grid location appeals to you, then Yenwar Homestay is the place to be. Here you can completely unwind, relaxing in your hammock and listening to the birdsong all around you. The overwater bungalows are basic but clean and come with a mosquito net. Western-style toilet is on the main land, and there’s a real (!) shower at the beginning of the jetty. At the very tip of the jetty, there’s a weak phone signal, sufficient for texting and phone calls. There is electricity only for a short period in the evening. So bring a charger if needed.

The house reef is excellent for snorkeling, especially if you head a bit to the right (200m). Unfortunately, I didn’t see any dolphins or dugongs during my stay in October. The family is also happy to take you anywhere you want, such as nearby Friwen Wall and Batu Lima, as well as more distant spots like Suwandarek Jetty. Oh yeah, and they have a really nice beach for if you like sunbathing.

The food was delicious and plentiful. And I’ve never had such good fish as here. Truly delicious, and you can’t get any fresher.

It is useful to download beforehand an off-line translation app so you can communicate with the family more easily. Off course it is also helpful if you can speak some words Bahasa Indonesia.

I had three wonderful days, thank you!

  • We stayed one week in this homestay and it was very good. It was our first Raja Ampat experience. We got very much and very tasty food. The internet connection was good enough. The Snorkeling in the house reef was very good and from our bungalow we saw dolphins and even a whale. At night we could also hear whales. Behind the homestay is rainforest and all day and especially in the morning you can hear and see many different kinds of beautiful birds. Our Guest Family was very kind and friendly and we talked a lot when it was possible. Kalep did also some boat tours with us and showed us the best snorkeling spots and we saw also a Manta, many Dolphins and some Dugongs. If we come back to raja Ampat we will visit Yenwar Homestay again. Thank you for everything! Hakuna Matata – Tidak ada masalah

  • Yenwar is located at a beautiful cove, three side surrounded by steep hills, water is clean and clear, there are limited breaching, otherwise a lot of small fish, some medium size, a least one baby black tip shark, anemone crown and other colorful small fish. Corals to the left and right outside the cove are healthy and beautiful just a few minutes swim. Rachel, Kalep and their sisters are very good host. Rachel was my main contact who lives away, Kalep and the sisters speak very limited English, if you want to communicate you need to take the initiative. Kalep is a super friendly person once you get to know him, he took me and a young couple from the next bungalow to Waisai for half day at a very reasonable price, he drove a motorbike with me on the back, we went food shopping, tour Waisai and have delicious lunch at a restaurant. We also had a snorkeling trip to Bitu Lima at a very reasonable price, an excellent snorkeling spot (diving as well). We went to a bird watching trip, didn’t see any, he did offer to take us again at no cost, but we didn’t feel like trekking up rugged tropical steep hill again without confidence seeing birds of paradise. The sisters made delicious fish, chicken and eggs dinners. Food is sufficient, there is plenty of drinking water and packaged coffee. Rachel came to visit before I left, very sweet and friendly person. I would highly recommend for budget minded travelers. I enjoyed my time there.

  • We stayed 3 night in Yenwar Homestay early January 25. We had the VIP on land bungalow and the one next to it. The bungalow was spacious, the bathroom handy. Unfortunately the beds in these bungalows are very small. Like 120cm. For two adults too small. Also the mattress are over their time.
Food was ok. Fish 2x, otherwise rice and beans for 3 days.

We didn’t do any trips. The housereef is faboulous. also you can sit on the jetty and survey the fishlife or watch dolphins passing by. it’s a very quiet place and the jungle starts right behind the bungalows. Lots of birds too.

The family was friendly, but not interessted to communicate or interact with any of us.

At night we had rats walking over the bungalow, and the first night they came into the bungalow. Since we had no food or soap around, they didn’t enter again.

  • Wonderfull time in Yenwar Homestay. Kalep and the rest of the family took great care of me! The bungalow is nice and clean, just above an amazing reef with incredible corals. The food was excellent and plentifull ! Best of all is the situation of the homestay, on a little private beach, away from the buzz of some bigger ressorts or homestays, close to many interesting sites. Kalep took me for snorkeling and sightseeing, always doing his best to introduce me to the wonders of Gam. I can only but recommend staying there !

  • I stayed in Yenwar for 5 nights and it was wonderful.
Rahel and her sisters took care about me everytime.
Breakfast, lunch and diner was always served on my veranda.
It was plenty and very delecious.
During the whole time I had hot and cold water to drink, coffee or tea.

Rahel brought me also to her village, which was a great experience. The people there are so friendly, children were playing with me.
The snorkeling at the housereef is very good. You can see the babysharks, turtles, cumi, a lot of colourful fishes and colourful corals.
Several times a day the dolphins are passing by which was always a highlight not only for me.
Rahel and her sister Erika went with me for snorkeling which was such a great day. Thank you for this day, Rahel and Erika:)

I really enjoyed my time in Yenwar, getting very close to the family.
I will miss you a lot Rahel, Erika, Astrid, Agnes.., Mama and Papa and the little children.

    Terimakasih
Thank you very much for all and paradise moments.

    I will definatly come back!

  • We stayed at Yenwar for two nights and it was lovely. Rahel is caring about her guests, picking us up from the ferry, inviting to bring us to the village with her and always preparing plenty of delicious food for us. The accommodation is simple and very close to nature, so do not expect any extra comfort other than a mosquito net and towels. It is rather remote, so particularly for people who are looking for a quite relaxing time. And there is even a bit of phone/mobile data connection (for Telkomsel). The snorkelling at the house reef is very nice, you can see turtles and sharks (but do not swim too far to the left after the big rocks on the next beach due to the chance of crocodiles in the mangroves). There is also a stunning, secluded second beach on the right side after a less than a minute jungle path. We also recommend to bring an offline translator app like google translate, so communication will be easier. We really enjoyed our stay and definitely had a lot of private paradise moments. 🙂 Thank you, Rahel for everything!
