Activities
Diving and snorkelling at Yenanas Paradise Homestay
Located on a fantastic sheltered beach that's perfect for children, Yenanas Paradise Homestay affords safe swimming over a sandy bottom close inshore, transitioning to a coral reef that offers great snorkelling as you get further out. (Bring your own snorkelling gear.)
Diving is available at Yenanas by arrangement with neighbouring operators.
Providing sunrise ocean views, the Yenanas Paradise beach also has a strong freshwater spring which bubbles up on the seabed and is accessible at low tide. Turtles and small sharks are often seen in the shallows by day and walking sharks can be seen at night.
Apart from birds of paradise, cuscus, tikus besar and a host of other birds and smaller animals, the nearby jungle also conceals a grove of bamboo containers used long ago in magic rituals conducted for individuals by Yenbeser's village doctor. Jungle trails lead from Yenanas Paradise to a tree where Red Birds of Paradise come to display. The display tree is about an hour’s walk from Yenanas and a deviation to take in a panoramic viewpoint can be made.
Other interesting places to visit nearby include the Kanji-inscribed Japanese naval survey marker on Monkairi (Batu Lima) and other war relics in the jungle near the village of Yenbeser.

We so enjoyed our stay here. We loved being right on the ocean, hearing the waves and watching the sunrise, and the snorkeling right in front was so great! So many beautiful corals and fish and turtles. We also really enjoyed the bird watching and took the guided bird hike one morning. While the hike was nice, you don’t actually need it because just on the property we saw the red bird of paradise, and so many parrots, hornbills, and cockatoos! So much beautiful nature, butterflies, and wildlife. The meals were plentiful and delicious with good variety, and the hosts were so friendly, as were their cute kids who showed us a cuscus in the trees.
One piece of luggage got lost en route, and the dive resort next door had some nice souvenir t-shirts and shorts for sale to get us through. Plus they allowed us to hang out on their pier and to snorkel from there too.
The home stay is basic, as expected, with a separate toilet and shower area that both used a bucket of water and a ladle, but it was exactly as advertised and very clean. Electricity for only a few hours a day, but it was enough to keep our phones charged (important since they are also our cameras and flashlights). We unexpectedly had really great cell phone coverage, so that was a bonus.
We came for the snorkeling and the wildlife and we were so pleased with our experience here. Thank you Karel and family!
We spent 10 days exploring central RA and Yenanas was by far the most beautiful beach and location for a Homestay. The sunrise from the cabins is stunning and swimming in the beach is a dream. The house coral is in excellent condition and we went multiple times a day for a look as there was such a variety of species just outside our cabin, including turtles, mantas and lots of sharks along the reef drop.
This is a true Homestay where the hosts live on site and you can interact with them on a daily basis and reach out at any time with questions or just for a chat. Don’t wait for them to offer activities but rather just ask where to go.
Karel and his family were wonderful to us during our stay and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Even if their English wasn’t great, we could still communicate really well through a mixture of speaking and google translate as there is great internet reception.
The meals were made with a lot of love, providing variety of chicken, fish and vegetarian options daily. A plus was the cooked breakfast with fried rice, bananas and omelette (as opposed to cake in many Homestays) + they provided an afternoon snack of fried bananas every day which was super welcomed. Karel’s sons would also bring us fresh coconuts to drink almost daily.
The cabins were basic but clean and tidy, and there was a fan that worked during electricity hours so we were never hot, as they capture the sea breeze really well. The grounds were cleaned daily and there was no plastic or trash around, this was one of the cleanest Homestays we stayed at.
Right next door to Yenanas there is a great dive resort, arranging diving with them as easy and also we could use their jetty for swimming, snorkelling and even watching the shark feeding they did every now and then.
Overall an amazing experience and a Homestay we would come back for sure! Thank you so much to Karel and family!

I stayed in a beach bungalow from 9 till 13 December.
The house reef was the best I had during my stay at 6 homestays in Raja Ampat. There is very nice coral, lots of fish, moray eel and manta ray jumping out of the water now and then. A snorkeltrip with Karel was nice too.
There are also parrots, cockatoes and other birds around the homestay.
Karel and his wife are very friendly. The food was okay and breakfast was nasi goreng or spaghetti, fried egg and banana (which is better than cake that most other homestays offer).

We stayed for one week at Yenanas. Karel and his wife were very welcoming, with big smiles and a very relaxed attitude. Everything went very smooth: pick-up from Waisai, trips & excursions during our stay and drop-off at our next accomodation on Kri. Karel was very flexible; each night we would discuss our wishes and plan for the next day. The food was very good and plentiful and they provided vegetarian meals according to our wishes. The facilities are basic but everything is clean (and cleaned regurlarly) and functions well. It can get quite hot in the hut without fans.
The beach and snorkelling (sharks, turtles, sea snakes, beautiful coral) were amazing. This place is very calm and really feels like a private paradise. During our stay and daytrips we had a lot of fun with Karel & Nani, including the free language lessons from Karel (in both Bahasa and local language, haha!). Definitely would recommend!

My girlfriend and I had a great stay here. The host is the best, welcoming and helpfull and a big smile on his face. The food was great (yet simple). The rooms were perfectly located with a view over the water. As this homestay, and one other place, are the only on the beach, we had the whole beach for ourself. We used Tarzan diving (10 minutes away by boat picked up by the dive center) for diving which worked great for the few days we had. Beware that there are no fans in the room so it can be quite warm at night. All in all a great, simple and relaxing nature experience.

I was lucky enough to stay at Yenanas Paradise Homestay for 7 nights, and for most of that time I had the place to myself.
The rooms are exactly as described, as well as the bathroom facilities. The rooms are very comfortable and right on the water edge.
Karel and his wife were an excellent hosts – plenty of home cooked tasty dishes – 3 full meals a day plus snacks, tea and coffee, hot water always available.
Karel was excellent with his communication and I was promptly picked up from the ferry (even though the ferry was late). All prices quoted were as Karel advised and no haggling required.
I felt safe and well cared for.
The dive shop is a very short walk next door and made it very easy to arrange.
I saw very few mosquitoes, which was wonderful, but the sea fleas in the ocean were around, so good to cover up.
Some tips for those who have never been:
– no other drinks available other than tea, coffee and water, so BYO.
– if you like other snacks, BYO.
– humidity is high, so bring a small battery fan at night would sometimes help
– rubbish is a real problem all over Indonesia (particularly plastic waste) – limit your waste or take it home with you. Better yet, be part of the cleanup and help out an island paradise and collect any rubbish you see.
Thank you Karel and thank you to your wonderful wife for her excellent cooking.

The place and the owner with his family are extraordinarily nice! The food is exzellent and all is very clean. They are also very helpful with any requests. I could see very nicely a cuscus who sleeps in a tree right at the beach and the house reef is still plenty of fish. Definetly a place to recommend and I would come back without hesitation!

What a beautiful little paradise!! Stayed for 3 nights but wanted to stay longer.
I enjoyed the silence so much. The hut was so cute and clean.
Snorkeling in front of the beach was an amazing. And the owners were super kind, made me feel so welcomed and made 4 times a day an amazing dish.
No wifi but there is a hotspot, asked for a hammock that was no problem.
The toilets are oke and bucket showers very basic. But it all has his charms. This was exactly why I came to Yenanas

Ein guter Ort zum Entspannen mit freundlichen Gastgebern, gepflegter Anlage, leckeres Essen, gutes Hausriff und tollen Sonnenaufgängen. Hoffe wir sehen uns nächstes Jahr wieder.

Karel Dimara is excellent host. Yenanas has an excellent white sand beach and we had a most comfortable stay with excellent communications, timely transportation, yummy food, decent bird tour. The bungalow was ready with two comfortable beds and the toilets were adequate and clean. The snorkeling here was some of the best I’ve seen anywhere in Raja Ampat. The reef is clean and well preserved.

I really enjoyed Yenenas paradise. The house reef is amazing, food is good, the water bungalow pretty clean and comfortable, never had issues with fresh water (maybe because I was the only guest), and is well located (close to a resort so if you need to buy some essentials, like mosquito repellent or sunblock), you can do it quite easily. Speaking some Indonesian (even using an online translator) will help! Karel and his family can take you birdwatching to see the red bird of paradise. I did it and it was really cool! I recommend!

The best Homestay for us on this trip. We stayed 5 nights and could have stayed longer. This was our second time in Raja and we have to say everything is done right in Yenanas. Karel and his wife have kept the rooms and bathrooms clean and tidy. Everything is basic but on point. The location is fantastic – snorkelling the house reef which is just in front of the homestay has excellent coral cover and a decently healthy reef. Behind the homestay is the hill which Karel showed us on an early morning hike to see the birds of Paradise. The food has always been sufficient and tasty. They even offer evening snacks which some other homestays didn’t offer us. Karel also provides excursions to snorkelling at Friwen wall which is close by. We didn’t have a sim card unfortunately and Karel was always happy to share hotspot when we needed it. All in all 5 * for this place and we’ll always come back here when in Raja.

Beautiful homestay, good for birdwatching !
Karel keeps the place clean at all times, like removing plastic from the beach after heavy rainfall. The bungalows are nice and comfortable. The food was always enough, you even get a snack at 5pm. The house reef is good but nothing special, black tips and turtles can easily be seen.
The trail behind the homestay is really good for birdwatching. Not just the bird of paradise but also other birds like the western crowned pigeon can be seen. The long beach is also a good place to watch birds, hornbills are very easy to spot and can get quite close.

I stayed at Yenanas Homestay for 3 nights, but if I hadn’t arranged diving at another place I would definitely have stayed there longer!
It was definitely the most beautiful place and the longest beach from all other places I have been to during my 3 weeks in Raja Ampat.
The hut was lovely and decorated with sea shells. I was the only guest and I had the beach to myself. The house reef is beautiful!
The food was by far the best I had among other homestays. Fresh fish every day and sweet snacks between the meals.
Karel and Teresa were very friendly. Karel took me to a place where his friend saw dugongs and we very so lucky we saw 4 of them!
They also organised snorkelling tour for me and we went to Friwen wall and other 2 places and stopped at Mios Kim where we have seen hundreds of bats flying around. It was incredible!
Their son Arif took me and another 2 people for an early morning 40min hike through the jungle to see Red Bird of paradise dancing atbthe sunrise, which is literally at the backyard of the Homestay.
Karel was renovating huts while I was staying there and I ended up helping them and learned how the traditional huts of Raja Ampat are made! This was super fun and a bonding experience! They also took me with them on their trips to the nearby village for free and showed me how to drive a speedboat and how to open a coconut with a huge machete(I almost chopped my finger off) Karen was also keen to teach me words in Raja Ampat language and Bahasa.
Karel also helped me to find Kuskus at night in their garden. The kuskus in their garden is very beautiful with spots.
Great black cockatoos come into homestay’s garden every day walking around.
There are few trails in the forest that you can walk when you are bored of swimming and snorkelling, which is quiet nice, because at many home-stays in Raja you can’t go anywhere on land.
Overall I had a lot of fun and felt like I was actually staying with a family and was sad to leave.
I have seen one of the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets of my life at Yenanas Homestay.
I will definitely come back if I am ever in Raja Ampat again.

We spent 3 days and nights at Yenanas homestay – 3-6 March. It was fabulous – absolute paradise! Karel and Teresia were excellent hosts. Very warm and welcoming. The food was delicious, varied and in big quantities. We had stayed at Batu Lima homestay next door with Pak Ones and family 6 years earlier before it closed. Karel took us to visit them in the village – that was such a wonderful reception with quite a number of their grand children and children welcoming us.
Karel also took us snorkelling at Friwen Wall, Batu Lima and another island – amazing!
The reef at Yenanas is still stunning – we saw a walking shark and a crocodile fish among the other fish and beautiful coral gardens. The birds were plentiful and Karel found us a cuscus in the trees at night – it was white and yellow with big black spots on its back. I’ve never seen one like that before – gorgeous!
The only suggested improvement would be a spring mattress.
We still think this is the best beach in the world.
Thank you Karel and Terasia. We will be back!

We had a lovely stay at Yenanas. Karel and his family were very warm at receiving us. The food was absolutely great. Besides the 3 meals as of most places, we also had a very nice afternoon snack included!
From the homestay you can hike up around 40mins to see the famous Birds of Paradise. If you consider doing it make sure to bring your headlamp, water and some sturdy shoes, especially if it has rained recently as it can get slippery, especially on the way down.
The beach and snorkeling from the house is very good too!
If you have one, I recommend taking your own as we did not have much sitting place in our bungalow.
Makasi Karel, Teresia and family for a lovely stay 🙂

I had a very warmful welcome. Karel take care of his guest. It’s a lovely Homestay with nice decoration at a pretty spot in Raja Ampat.

Forget the negative reviews – you could miss a treat! This was the most beautiful spot we found in Raja – a perfect paradise beach! I guess everyone has a bad day – and not all guest are easy to please – but the owners were charming throughout our stay (and I was the only one drinking any alcoholic beverages!). The food was more than acceptable – although, as we often found, a little encouragement to vary the menu will make it even better. The owner took us to see the famous cuscus – so cute – something of a highlight of our trip!
Two top tips should ensure a great trip:
1. Pick up a case of Bintang in Sorong (much cheaper than Wasai) – they will chill it for you; and
2. Make it your first stop so you can change and get comfortable on arrival and travel in your swim wear – the boat is a little small for the trip.

Honest review: based on 30 days Raja Ampat 2019 & 2020.
Yenanas Homestay – 14-02-2020 – 4 nights.
We decided to book Yenanas directly with Karel and asked him about pick-up options (no no its not possible to share).
Bungalow price is 400k per person and pickup 400k per boat. Karel seemed like a nice guy in the phone conversations.
Ofcourse (like always) it is not possible to share a boat from waisai, homestays next to eachother go with 2 boats will charge you full price for the pickup as “extra income”.
On the way to GAM Karel told us about the trips he freely offers to make his guests happy, Batu lima/Friwen etc. it was all no problem.
Arriving: We were welcomed by his wife and family.
Our bungalow had a good size and the homestay had about 5 other guests.
When we met the other tourists it all started: they started complaining about the food, it was the same, to simple and not enough.
One of the dogs stole a flipflop of my girlfriend and while we ate our lunch. he got beaten badly, while it already had a broken leg.
In the evening Karel started to fight with his wife. this continued for our whole stay. his wife was crying in the morning and yelling. the atmosphere changed and Karel disappeared.
It was impossible to arrange anything because Karel only deals with the tourists. (because of his english)
The meals started to go downhill and no-one wanted to work in the family. A lot of alcohol and beatlenut was always consumed by them.
We finally arranged the birdtrekking for our last morning: we had to wake them up at 05:20 because they overslept.
The trekking is very very easy to do on your own and not worth 300k for a single way walk.
Bathroom is okay, a toilet you need to clean the bin yourself because no one cared.
The housereef is alright (kri is much better).
We did try to explain our feelings and the situation when we had to pay but Karel told us “his english is not great”.
We hope in a different time our stay would be much better but because of the drama it affected us.
Pricing: all the prices don’t reflect quality. it’s just a cashcow.
Also: all dogs had broken legs on the homestay, so if you don’t like animal abuse keep it in mind.

We have been here for 4 Nights. The family is very friendly and the owner Karel is very fluent in english. Next to the normal meals like breakfast, lunch and dinner they offer also snacks during the afternoon, mostly sweets like baked bananas or muffins.
Our room was very comfortable and everything was very clean. But sometimes during the night we could have need a fan, especially when it was raining in the night it was very sticky.
The house reef is very beautiful. The best way to get in is, when you use the pier of the eco resort which isnt far away. There on the right side is a leader which you can use. Don’t be afraid of the baby sharks (or even bigger sharks ;-)).
Together with Karel and his colleague we made snorkeling trips to Batu Lima, Friwen Wall , Cape Kri and Mioskun.
The most we liked was Friwen Wall. The current is not very strong and there is a lot to see. Cape Kri is also very nice but we had to fight with the current. At both places we have seen (next to corrals and fishes) turtles and sharks. Mioskun has a lot of beautiful corrals. The best time to go there is by high tide. We were a bit dissapointed from Batu Lima. When we have been there, the current was very strong and we couldn’t see much.
What we didn’t like during our snorkeling trip to Friwen wall was that Karel and his colleague suddenly drove away and we have been alone for 10 – 15 minutes. Of course they came back 🙂 but next time just say if you need to go away for a short time. 😉
At the evening Karel showed us the Couscous which is a marsupial. The animals are unique on the island and a very difficult to find as they are nocturnal and hide in the trees.
Karel also brought us back to Waisai when we had to go back to sorong and we have been there very on time. If you need something to drink, like beer oder cola, Karl can get it for you from the next village. (The beer is around 80.000 IDR).
We want to thank Karel and his family for our amazing stay. We definitely recommend his place!

Our stay at Yenanas Paradise Homestay was a wonderful dream experience.
The beach is beautiful, soft and clean, full of shells and corals. A few meters from the shore you can go snorkelling, we got to see: small sharks, crocodile fish, batfish, needlefish …
The cuisine is excellent and always on time. We felt like family, they are always available for any need: if you wanted to eat fresh coconut they would take it directly from the palm trees on the beach; we also went to look for the cus cus and the birds of paradise …
I was also lucky enough to be invited by the boss to his wedding in the village of the bay next door.
it is the favorite place in all of indonesia, highly recommended. Hope to go back.

My husband and I spent six nights here in February. The beachfront hut is extremely basic – a mattress on the floor with mosquito net and nothing else. No shelf, table or hooks to put your things. There were rusty nail heads poking through the floor boards and the walls.
The table on the porch was made out of pressboard and was falling apart. The seating consisted of a wobbly bench. I didn’t see any hammocks that other reviewers talked about.
So although this homestay is on a beautiful beach, there is absolutely nowhere comfortable to sit and appreciate it.
We stayed at another homestay on Mansuar which cost the same and was the exact opposite in terms of comfort.
The coral reef was disappointing compared to the many others we saw in Raja Ampat. Some of the coral is dead or damaged. We did not see as many fish.
The food portions were on the small side. Yes, the family is very nice, but there needs to be work done on this homestay.

I stayed here for 3 days alongside my wife and daughter. The beach is beautiful and is very quiet with a nice reef in front with easy access at all tides. Unlike most of the other house reefs we experienced in raja ampat there is very little in the way of currents. Despite there being a dive resort nearby we never really saw any others on the beach or snorkelling.
The family who run the homestay are friendly and were really good with my young daughter, plus english is spoken by the owner which helps for organising transport etc. We also went to see the red birds of paradise which was fantastic. Like most places in raja ampat there are quite a few dogs about.
The bungalow was directly on the beach, this and the bucket shower and toilet were clean. The food was some of the tastiest we had in raja ampat. We would recommend staying here for a few days to enjoy the beach and use as a base to explore the surrounding area.

Oh yes, this is paradise. We were staying for four nights at Yenanas Paradise and we have loved it a lot. We had our bungalow right on the most beautiful beach and it was very clean with a small terrace to the front with a table and a bench. Inside there was only the mattress with a mosquito net (but there were hardly any mosquitos during our stay). Yeah, it is all very basic but really all you need here. Toilet and shower is only a minute walk away and also very clean. The restaurant supplies 3 meals a day. Very simple and of course mostly it’s rice, vegetables and fish. But everytime different, very well cooked and tasty. There’s even tea-time with sweets in the afternoon. You’ll never have to be hungly at Yenanas.
This homestay is only half an hour boatride from Waisai, right next to the Biodiversity Resort. On the other side there is another Homestay. But you hardly notice anything from the other places, 99% of the time we were the only ones in the water and on the beach. It’s really very quiet and natural. Everything is just beautiful, the beach is stunning, the water crystal clear and the corals in good condition. There are lost of things to see in the water. We were not disapointed at all. Highlight for us were the walking sharks and the many reef sharks. On land all the birds were stunning and one evening we saw the couscous in the trees.
We have done the bird watching tour and we’ve seen an heard the red bird of paradise (in the distance). It was a bit strenuous to get there, but still exciting and absolutely worth it.
We’ve also done the snorkling tour to Friwen which was absolutely spectacular. It takes only 15 minutes to get there and the corals here are even nicer and we’ve seen so many fish and exraordinary corals. Just incredible.
But the best thing about this Homestay is the Yenanas family who run the place. We really felt like being a part of the family and they have done everything to make our stay pleasant. Again I would like to thank Karel and is family. Yenanas Paradise is so great and all of you are wonderful. Thank you so so much. We will come back if we ever get the chance again.

I stay 2 month in raja ampat and I was my best accommodation.
The owner was really nice, it’s a family home stay they make everything to be kind ( every night try to spot a couscous or a walking shark for us ).
The food are really nice different and not only tuna different kind off fish every day plus you have a brunch in 5pm.
The bungalow have mosquito nets and they are clean.
They can manage a red bird paradise trip for you and not too much to walk around 30 min.
The snorkeling was amazing, you can swim until batu lima ( we see 5 different type of shark in one snorkeling !! )
You can see green Perot and papua kaka toes from your bungalow.
It’s an Haven for me !
And the place was quiet ( no compressor )
Thanks for everything see you next year arif

We stayed here as a group of 4 in August 2019.
The place was just about perfect.
The beach is the best on Gam, with soft white sand blending directly into a colorful, live coral reef. No transition of sea grass, sharp rocks or mangroves like at other places I stayed at on Gam.
The bungalows are simple but clean.
The host family wonderful, and the wife hailing from the Tanimbar Islands of SE Maluku is an outstanding cook. They went out of their way to accommodate requests like providing chicken instead of fish, home-baked bred, and 4-5 meals were provided each day. The ecursions were well-priced, with no attempt to increase costs or cut corners as sadly happens at other places. Snorkeling gear available, and safe, quality diving is possible with the neighboring Spanish-owned Raja Ampat Biodiversity Resort.
They now have 2 beach bungalows and 4 on land just 3 meters inland from the beach, with more planned.
No security issues whatsoever, in fact the owner kept patroling the premises even at night with a torch.

I stayed at this homestay for a week and it was a great experience. They were in Waisai waiting for me when I arrived and took me directly to the homestay. The location is perfect on a quite beach with world class diving on your doorstop. The family was always full of smiles and me delicious food every day. The island is perfect for escaping the world and relaxing for awhile!

We were there earlier this month and our experience was really unforgettable. Karel and his family are fantastic hosts. Extremely friendly and helpful people who really made us feel at home in this small piece of paradise.
The bungalows are basic but beautiful and the food was always fresh and tasty.
The dive resort is just nextdoor and also the house reef is really nice.
The children of Karel took us to a perfect spot to see the famous paradise birds. And yes, they danced!
Definitely a place to go back.

I stayed at Yenanas Paradise Homestay for 12 days/ nights in May 2019. I loved it. Karel collected me in his boat once I had arrived on the ferry. The place is absolutely beautiful – paradise indeed. The house reef is incredible, with so much marine life right there off the shore. I was in the ocean every day, blown away. The family are lovely, Patricia cooks up delicious meals 3 times a day, and there is also a snack at 5 pm. The children are also super friendly, and will give you company if you want it, though will leave you to it if you are just keen to spend time alone. The huts are great, it was lovely to just be with the things I needed and not much more aside from the outstanding natural beauty all around. You feel like you’re in another world, it’s delightful. 2 of Karel’s sons took me through the jungle at the back to see Birds of Paradise one early morning…a wonderful adventure. Would I come and stay here again? For sure. Can’t wait. Thank you Karel and family, you were lovely hosts. Until next time. Terima kasih!! Lauren xx

I am very sorry to have to tell this bad experience I had at the Yenana homestay.
I booked 4 days at this homestay, but on the penultimate day at night, around 12:30 pm, a staff member (a guy in the orange shirt working there) sneaked into our bungalow. I heard noises and I immediately woke up.
I saw this person inside my bungalow and got scared. I immediately turned on the torch and he escaped by hiding in the bungalow next door where he pretended to sleep together with 2 other staff boys. But I saw him come in because I had the flashlight on. I asked the boy in Bahasa for explanations, but he said he had only come in to check into my bungalow.
But I saw that he was rummaging through my things. I preferred to call the owner and explain what had happened. The owner was drunk, he talked to the boys, and he told me that everything was ok and that if there had been other problems he would have fought with me!
This has not reassured me at all. The door of our bungalow has no system to be closed, so I had to tie ropes to try to keep it shut!
The next day we left even though we had already paid an extra night because I don’t trust myself to sleep in that place with those people. I didn’t sleep all night to check. I have pictures of how I had to close the door and the windows.
I have been traveling around Indonesia for years and I am sorry for what happened, but I am not a fool …
This place is not safe …

beautiful place & very friendly people, the house-reef is superb with corals – food was excellent & sometimes spicy – we liked it,
Karel & his family made our staying comfortable – one of the beautiful things about Yenanas is the long beach where you can move a little away either direction and there is a small path behind the homestay where you can walk through the jungle up the hill, thank you Karel & Family – we had a wonderful time at your place!!!

I liked Yenanas so much I stayed for 9 days. Karel and Teresia and there children did everything to make me feel at home. Karel arrived in time to pick me up at Waisai with his son and Teresias cooking was always tasty, lots of grilled fish, some chicken and an egg with rice or noodles for breakfast. My bamboo hut was spacious with a queen size bed and mosquito net, mind you there were next to no mosquito s. The snorkeling is very good from the far left to two hidden beaches on the right, I even saw pink Coral.

We stayed at Yenanas Paradise from the 14th of November until the 19th of November. Yenanas Paradise is really a TRUE Paradise! The lovely cottages covered with large green trees and situated at the most beautiful white beach I could imagine.
We had a memorable stay and would definitely go back in the future if we can. The owner, om Karel, as well as his wife and kids are very warm and welcoming and really made our stay to be fantastic! His wife has amazing cooking skills! Everyday we had fish straight out of the ocean! She has even made a special dish, papeda sagu, for me.
The beach is amazing and really quiet. The sea is just perfect. Just in front of the beach there is an amazing house reef. We had seen plenty of fish, fish like squids, clowfish, walking shark and even a blacktip reef shark.
There is also a neigbouring Diving Resort if you’d like to dive. I have done a couple of dives, which were amazing as well. Saw too many fish to describe. The best diving location I’ve ever been to.
In the morning when we were having breakfast we even saw a group of dolphins passing by. Just perfect!
At Yenanas Paradise we also saw a spotted cuscus and went for a walk up hill to see the Birds of Paradise. We saw a couple of them.
Karel and the family are loving people and his kids were companying us and helped with whatever we needed.
Thank you once again for having us at Yenanas Paradise.
Until we meet again!

A medium-sized Homestay with 5 or 6 bungalows and a couple more under development. There is good snorkelling in front of the homestay.
Karel and his family are very pleasant and do their best to make you comfortable. The food is fine, and there are cakes at tea-time. There was some initial confusion over my booking (and that of another tourist) for private bungalows, but this was resolved within a couple of hours.
There is a dive resort close by so you can purchase alcoholic drinks and there is good internet reception.
Managed to catch a glimpse (they are a long way up in the canopy of the jungle) of a Bird of Paradise, but only because one of Karel’s children was there to point it out.

I stayed two nights at Yenana’s and really enjoyed it.
Stunning location with coral reef right in front and jungle behind. Food was delicious, different fish dishes each day, with extra snacks between! Cabin simple but comfortable.
Also very convenient for affordable accommodation if diving with Biodiversity, which was my primary motivation for originally choosing Yenana’s. Thanks Karel and family!!

We spend 4 amazing days with Karel and his nice family. The homestay is very clean and comfortable, very well looked after and the food was divine. The family is very hospitable and did everything they can to make our stay as comfortable as possible. There is a beautiful coral reef just in front of the homestay which you can snorkel to, and Karel is offering bird watching trips or boat tours to other islands. You can dive with Biodiversity Resort which is just 200 meters away, so you can enjoy a combination of affordable accommodation, great food and professional diving. Thanks to Karel and family for a very enjoyable holiday!

Hi i am planning to stay at Yenanas but wondering if i can arrange for Wayag tour with neighbouring homestay that provides such tour. Is that something that can be done?
Hi Nina
If Yenanas can’t arrange one for you then yes – you should be able to organise one with a homestay that can. Applying the “Wayag trips” activity filter on the accommodation page will quickly return all the homestays that advertise them. You can narrow the search by applying location filters at the same time.

We spend 8 days in Yenanas Paradise. The bungalow was direkt at the beach. Everything is basic but clean.
The food was great. The family is really friendly, and speaks just a little bit English.
The beach is beautiful, good swimming and snorkling. You can dive with Biodiversity Resort, if they‘re not booked out. We did some dive. Great diving!
Hi thank you very much for your best comment for us. All the best for you.

Hi thank you very much for your best comment for us. All the best for you.
We spent 8 amazing and peaceful days in Yenanas Paradise in mid-January. We thank you for unforgettable holiday.
Cottages as well as toilet are simple and clean. Coral reef in front of the homestay is very well accessible at the high tide as well as at the low tide. And the most important is that the sea was mostly calm, without strong current, so it was safe for snorkelling. Beside many other coral fishes we saw turtles, little sharks and also dolphins. Or you can just relax on the beach in the hammock, listen to the voices from the jungle and watch big parrots around. Sometimes cuscus is coming late afternoon looking for the best leaves on the trees behind the homestay. Only we did not have luck to see bird of paradise, despite our host tried to call them. They showed us that they are wild birds and a human can not command them. But even climbing up the hill in the dark morning jungle was an adventure experience for me.
The food was excellent! Usually was served various fishes, always with a lot of vegetable as a side dish and fresh fruits as a desert.
We recommend learning a little Bahasa as it helps in communication with the host and his lovely family. If we have another opportunity to visit Raja Ampat, for sure Yenanas Paradise is the place where we would love to come back again.

The best homestay that i ever stay in Raja Ampat. The food is really delicious, nice sandy beach, the house reef is good and i saw group of dolphins in front of the homestay. The mobile phone signal not quite good in here. On back of homestay, you can walk to the jungle to see bird of paradise. Bring water, use shoes, and use the mosquito repel i suggest
If you want to take a diving, you can arrange in Raja Ampat Biodiversity next to Yenanas Homestay. i suggest you arrange for diving h-1 before you arrive here because the Dive manager plan the dive round 2-3 p.m

We spent 5 days in Yenanas homestay and had a really wonderful time there. Yehuda and his family are really nice and friendly, the food was absolutely delicious and not one meal was the same over those five days. The snorkelling just out front of the bungalows is stunning, easy to see sharks and large fish as well as beautiful corals and tropical fish, and an occasional sea turtle. We also saw groups of dolphins passing by just from the beach which was amazing. The host doesn’t speak a lot of English so this might be challenging if you don’t speak a bit of bahasa. But he explained that he usually makes it work using his hands, feet and head as well. The mobile phone signal is not so strong and usually you cannot get enough reception to use internet. We went to see the birds of paradise which was great as well. The toilet is a bit far but it was clean and toilet paper was provided. All the other guests we spoke to said this was the best homestay they stayed in so far. The cost of the homestay is only one fifth of what you pay next door at Biodiversity Resort, but the comfort maybe half compared to them, and the food is just as good. If you’re looking for an affordable, quiet place in paradise and don’t mind to be briefly disconnected from the world, we can definitely recommend you to stay here 🙂

We spent 3 days in Yenanas. We liked the bungalow, with a good mosquito net. The food is really good, especially the breakfast, and you have also something to eat in the afternoon, perfect after a snorkelling session! We went to 2 homestays in Raja Ampat and it was the better food by far.
The snorkelling is really beautiful, awesome corals! It’s better to go at high tide though, otherwise it’s difficult to enter the water at low tide.
Family is nice, they don’t really speak English, one man does however.
You have electricity in general from 6 to 10 pm.
They don’t answer their Facebook messages, only text messages by phone.

Spent 4 days in Yenanas. Bungalows are basic but pleasant. Really appreciated the food (1st class, a special feeling for the wild pig stew). The reef in front of the beach is beautiful, excellent for snorkelling with easy access from the beach (less than 25 meters) even at low tide. Saw a few sharks and all the usual tropical fish. Good and pleasant interaction with the family, although without bahasa basics, I guess it might be a bit limited.
One question : I wonder if the extra cost 400/day instead of the usual 350 is justified. Maybe the excellent food ?

A very good homestay to relax, great food and a really fantastic home reef with a lot of different corals. Thanks to Yenanans!

Great food (breakfast was one of the best we had in the homestays of Raja Ampat), nice bungalows, fantastic beach with great snorkeling.
Love the hammocks!
The toilet and bathroom perhaps needs a little love.

Simple bungalow at the beach, a calm long beach. Okey food three times a day. The owner speaks little english, and he had Red bird watching-trips (you walk around 40minutes in the djungel) two times per day. You get what you need and nothing more.

We had a wonderfull stay at yenanas.
It is really simpel but the place is pure paradise.
There is not much action tho, so if you are looking for jet ski it’s the wronb place but if you are looking for a beautifull island with good snorkeling infront of the beach and a wonderfull hostfamily it’s where you have to go!

Pros: Great food, friendly hosts, individual bungalows(2) so private if you want it, Wonderful views, Awesome reef, snorkeling gear, hammocks, western toilet, birds of paradise that show up every day!
Cons: One bathroom for both bungalows and the 2 joined rooms – and it is about 50 meters walk from furthest bungalow. No light switches in rooms or bungalows – all controlled by one main switch at the host’s kitchen – so he decides to turn off everyone’s power at the same time, while leaving it on for himself. You can work around this by unscrewing the light bulb if you want to go to bed earlier than your neighbours, and going and telling him to put it back on if you want more light, when he shuts it down. Not really satisfactory and could be easily fixed by buying 4 switches. Bungalows on beach can be very noisy because the sea is crashing on the beach right under you all night, though you might find this soporific – we did!

This place is great. Beautiful beach and reef with turtles, sharks and lots of fish. Great snorkelling in particular around Batu Lima. Cus cus and parrots are also in the trees along the beach. Best food we had at any homestay and afternoon tea every day. Feels very peaceful and remote. Biodiversity next door does diving and cheap snorkelling trips. Highly recommended.

Stayed here for four nights in May and thoroughly enjoyed it. The snorkelling is fantastic: there is a reef literally a few metres off the beach which you can discover at your leisure (when the tide is in; when it’s out, it gets too shallow), and we had the beach entirely to ourselves. We’re not divers, but Biodiversity next door has diving facilities if you are. We took an early morning hike up to the bird watching hut and were rewarded with a red bird of paradise and a hornbill. At night there are crabs on the beach and there is the Southern Cross in the sky. The food is delicious and copious (two cooked meals a day and pancakes or pastries for breakfast and for tea/coffee around 5 pm). The owner and the family that live on the beach are very friendly and welcoming, though contrary to what it says on the website they have almost no English, and there were a few confusing miscommunications. They also seemed unaware of the dates we had booked (and confirmed), but this didn’t make the welcome any less warm. This is not a resort that offers lots of activities or entertainment, but if you’re looking for turquoise sea, a quiet white beach, green coconut trees and a spectacular coral reef then this is the place to come.

We stayed one week at Yenanas Homestay which is one of three places to stay on this beautiful cove. The homestay is very basic. The food is terrific, although almost always fish. Yehuda is a very decent man. A couple of things to note before arriving. The ride from Waigai is very wet. Be prepared to get wet. (We werent as we had just come off the plane). There is a dive centre, Biodiversity right next door and all of their facilities and instructors for diving are available. There is a written list of costs, all of which were much higher than what we were actually charged. In fact, the final bill was quite reasonable, about 9 million for three persons for 7 nights. We thought the cost of transport was one – way for 1 million each way. Turns out it was the round trip cost. English is very limited. (I speak Bahasa Indonesia so I know it was much easier).
The water is protected, so there arent waves. Yehuda has snorkeling equipment and the reef just in front is wonderful. The water is extremely shallow and the reef is high, so while snorkeling is great, it really isnt the place to swim. Just to get wet.
There is a nature trail into the jungle that takes about 30 minutes to reach the end. Some of the operators were charging really high per person fees to take the very well marked trail. No need to pay to be guided. Just take a walk.
We brought towels and a electricity strip for added plugs. Probably snacks would have been a good idea, particularly noodles. They provide hot water so coffee is also always available. Electricity from the generator comes on around 6 pm and stays on until midnight, plenty of time to charge phones, cameras or whatever. 3G service is good there, even though we tried to avoid looking at it – the reason to go to Raja Ampat in the first place.
The listing says there is a town nearby. Maybe, but not one we could walk to.
I could have easily stayed there a month. It takes a few days to get into the rhythm, but once you really relax, the beauty, the climate, the water just seduce you…

Hi Kees –
Last time we spoke to the folks at Yenanas they had no ability to connect to the internet, so unless that’s changed, they probably won’t see your message. If you’d like to add your pics (credited of course!) to their album above, please feel free to contact us and we’ll add them.
