Details
Warimpurem Homestay is near Saporkren village, about a 20 minute car ride away from Waisai port.
Four private bungalows are located on the beachfront. Each can sleep four people.
A two-room family bungalow is also available. It is located on land behind the beachfront bungalows. The family bungalow sleeps two people in each room. (If you want to book the entire family bungalow, select 2 x Room in a bungalow on the booking form.)
There is also a private bungalow on land that is set up for twin share. Bedding for a third guest can be provided if needed.
All bungalows have real beds and extra mattresses can be provided if required. Bedding includes sheets, pillows, bolsters and mosquito nets. All rooms are equipped with power outlets, room light switches, a small desk with lockable drawers and a mirror. Bathtowels and electric fans are provided.
Each bungalow has a covered verandah with seating and a small table.
Meals are served in a separate dining shelter and comments in Waripurem’s guest book show that Mama Engge’s cooking is one of the highlights of most guests’ stay. Guests will always find free drinking water, tea and coffee available in the dining shelter. There are also more power outlets there for charging devices. A voltage stabiliser is provided for sensitive equipment. In addition to a couple of hammocks provided in the dining shelter, there are a few beachside bench seats and tables for relaxation.
All guests share a 3 roomed, tile-floored bathroom building. A western style toilet is provided in one room, a shower in another, and a traditional squat toilet and dip mandi is provided in the third.
Warimpurem has a strong mobile phone signal which usually supports a 4G data connection. Mains electricity is usually available 24/7.
The nearby village of Saporkren has some small shops selling basic supplies. Saporkren is a short boat ride or 30 minute walk away. Waisai can be reached by car in about 20 minutes if you need more than Saporkren can supply.
As everywhere in Raja Ampat, its best to take all your inorganic trash away with you when you leave so as not to contribute to the islands’ growing rubbish problem.
English is spoken at Warimpurem Homestay.
Please note: Coconut crabs are a protected species. Please don’t buy them. Warimpurem Homestay will refuse to cook any you might bring and will instead ask that you release them.
Transport / Getting there
Warimpurem is connected by sealed road to Waisai and transfers from the ferry harbour cost IDR 300,000 each way. Price is per journey and can be shared among the vehicle passengers (the cars used can easily accommodate four passengers and baggage).

Activities
Warimpurem Homestay offers diving, snorkeling, Bird of Paradise tours and the opportunity to explore Saporkren village and the hidden bays and springs between there and the homestay.
If you have your own snorkelling equipment there’s seagrass beds and a reef dropoff to explore at the homestay and some great snorkelling over colourful coral around the Kabui Bay jetty at the western end of Saporkren village. Marine life beneath the main jetty at Saporkren is also worth a look.

Birds of Paradise
Warimpurem’s Bird of Paradise tour guide can show you Raja Ampat’s famed Wilson’s Bird of Paradise as well as the more common Red Bird of Paradise. Red Bird of Paradise tours cost IDR 250,000 per person. Wilson's Bird of Paradise tours cost IDR 300,000 per person. (So IDR 550,000 per person if you want to see both.)
Note that if you want to see both Red and Wilson's in a single day, then you'll need to do one in the morning and one in the evening. (The display site for the Red is about a 45 minute walk from Warimpurem, in a different direction to the Wilson's display site.)
Morning tours start early, so as to be on site at dawn when the birds display. It’s about a ninety minute walk through the jungle to the Wilson’s site, departing before dawn at around 4.00am. There is also a good spot for observing cockatoos which is a much shorter hike, being about a 30 minute walk from Saporkren.
Kali Biru visits
Trips to Mayalibit Bay's famed Blue River can be arranged on request. Cost is IDR 2,000,000 shared by paticipants (maximum of five).
Village visits
Saporkren is a pretty village and well worth visiting, especially by walking along the beach at low tide. Just to the west of the homestay is the strong spring of cool, fresh water from which Warimpurem takes its name. The Warimpurem spring and two others just like it are only visible at low tide and the walk to the village passes several white sandy coves and shady picnic places popular on the weekends. A raised boardwalk around a rocky bluff near Saporkren offers some great ocean and beach views. Watch for the pods of dolphins that regularly visit this stretch of coast. Saporkren can also be reached via the road that passes the front of the homestay and then via a jungle path that continues from where the road ends. Traffic on the road is very light and almost all vehicles are motorbikes except on weekends when Waisai locals visit the beachside picnic spots along the coast.

We liked the stay at Warimpurem a lot. It’s perfect for the start and the end of a Raja Ampat journey. Nice people, good food and simple, but well kept bungalows. They are situated under the trees and hence temperatures are quite agreeable. Nice reef and white sandy beach just in front of the bungalows. Dolphins passing by. Kuskus in the family garden.
The family arranges guided tours to the the Wilson and the Red Bird of Paradise. Wilson you see very close and on the way back the guide showed us incredible insects.
We stayed at Waripuren Homestay for almost a week at the beginning of February 2026 and overall had a very positive experience.
Pick-up and Arrival:
We were picked up in Waigeo and driven by car to the homestay. Upon arrival, we received a very warm welcome from the hosts, which immediately made us feel comfortable.
Room:
Our accommodation was a bungalow built over the water without an en-suite bathroom. The room was simple but functional, equipped with a raised mattress, a mosquito net, a small desk, and several power outlets. Outside, there was a balcony with two chairs and a table, offering a beautiful view.
The shared bathroom was generally clean and was cleaned at least once during our stay. It included a western-style toilet with toilet paper, a shower, and also a squat toilet.
Overall, the entire property was very well maintained. The owners clearly took pride in keeping everything in good condition, regularly repairing unused structures and cleaning the grounds. Both the property and the beach were very clean. Apart from a few spiders outside and occasional geckos, we did not encounter any cockroaches.
Food:
Meals were served in a communal pavilion with large tables. Drinking water was available, as well as facilities to wash hands.
The food was delicious, varied, and plentiful. Breakfast differed each day and included items such as roti, fried bananas, eggs, bread, and fresh fruits like bananas, papaya, and watermelon. Meal times were somewhat flexible; often we were simply informed when the food was ready, and the hosts were considerate of our schedule (for example, when we needed more rest due to jet lag).
Lunch and dinner typically consisted of rice or noodles, soup, and dishes with meat, fish, or vegetables, along with fruit. On one occasion, the host even asked for our preferences before going to the market, which we appreciated. Even after additional guests arrived mid-week, there was always more than enough food for everyone.
Tours:
During our stay, we arranged a bird-of-paradise tour through the hosts. They organized a guide who took us on two separate days to see the Red Bird-of-Paradise and Wilson’s Bird-of-Paradise.
The guide spoke limited English, but communication was still possible with basic language and occasional translation. Transportation to the starting point of the tours was partly provided by the hosts using their motorbike.
Location and Surroundings:
The homestay is located in a very remote and მშვიდ area, ideal for those seeking peace and close contact with nature. Within approximately a 20-minute walk, you can reach a small village with a beach. We did not find any restaurants or bars nearby, so if you require additional food or drinks beyond what is provided, you should bring them with you. There are only a few other homestays in the area, which allows you to fully enjoy the natural surroundings.
General:
Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay. As it was our first week in Raja Ampat and in Indonesia, we were still adjusting to the jet lag and climate. The homestay provided a relaxing, welcoming, and comfortable environment for this transition.
If there had been more options to relax, such as hammocks or sun loungers, the experience would have been absolutely perfect.
Our onward journey to the next island was also smoothly arranged, with the homestay organizing the boat transfer for us.
I absolutely love this place. The location is beautiful, and the surrounding nature is stunning. The family is incredibly kind and welcoming. There are so many birds to see. The food is excellent, and the snorkeling is good. What more could you want?
The guides for the birding tours are also excellent,they know a lot about the environment.

Nous avons passé 2 smaines à Warimpurem et c’est le plus beau souvenir de tous nos séjours au Raja Ampat, du en partie à l’accueil de Christine, toujours à l’écoute pour donner de bons conseils. Nous avons pu aller voir les paradisiers, faire une excursion à la “Blue river” accompagnés par son mari Arnold.
Un de ses frères nous a aussi amené sur sa pirogue faire du snorkeling.
Nous avions un bungalow avec salle de bains privative (fort appéciée).
Il faut aussi parler des repas incroyables tant par leurs saveurs que par leurs variétés. La mère de Christine est une cuisinière hors pair!!!

I stayed for three nights at the homestay in late January, early February 2026.
The vehicle pickup from Waisai was on time for the 4:00PM ferry arrival and Adi the driver was friendly and conversational even with limited English.
Christine was quick to respond to messages on WhatsApp or in person whenever I had questions or needed to arrange a boat transfer.
The waterfront bungalow was clean and had simple amenities like a desk, fan, and a good quality mosquito net.
The food produced daily by the aunties in the kitchen was always delicious and abundant. Our group had freshly caught fish available and cooked a few different ways each night for dinner.
The house reef just offshore was healthy, colourful, and full of many different fish.
A small pod of dolphins passed by the homestay twice during my stay.
I would definitely book another stay at this homestay in the future.

I stayed at Warimpurem from December 16, 2025, until December 21. It was a wonderful experience. The water, the birdwatching, and especially the trip to the Blue River were all wonderful. Abraham and his family were exceptional hosts. I will miss their friendship.

The cabin was clean, had a proper bed and a fan (which are already a step above some homestays). The food was excellent and plentiful and there is a nice common area for eating, along with drinking water tea/coffee. Christine was efficient at organizing our transport and tours. The bathroom was pretty typical of homestays – cold water pipe for the shower. The highlight of our visit was being able to walk to the nearby village. My one small disappointment was that that the interaction with the hosts during the visit was minimal. I wanted to stay at homestay in order to interact with local families, but apart from greeting us and serving food, there really wasn’t much of that. The family kept themselves to themselves (although friendly enough if we passed by) and we didn’t eat together at all. In this sense, it felt more like a hostel stay, where we were greeted and pointed to our lodgings. The other slight negative was no top covering on the bed (only a bottom sheet). Yes, it is very hot here, but I still appreciate a top sheet in the middle of the night and it was actually a bit chilly (we only stayed 2 days/1 night – if longer I’m sure I could have asked for one). Finally, given that you are reliant on the host for food (it’s remote) having some snacks available in between meals would have been appreciated. We were up at 4:30am to do the birds of paradise tour and had to do 2 hours in the jungle on an empty stomach. There had been a couple of bananas in the eating area the day before, but that seemed fleeting. So bring some of your own snacks to supplement if you have an early morning or tend to get hungry between meals.

Christine comme déjà mentionné, est une excellente cuisinière. Les repas étaient copieux et variés. Merci à elle pour les bons petits déjeuners avec des gâteaux, du pain ou des crêpes !
Le snorkeling devant la maison est aussi très bien avec un dugong aperçu le dernier matin!
Nous étions venus pour les BOPs et nous avons pu voir les 2 espèces et beaucoup d’autres espèces d’oiseaux lors de nos balades. La famille aime montrer les différents animaux présents dans le jardin, couscous, microglosse… c’est génial !
Toute la famille est vraiment adorable, aux petits soins avec ses hôtes ! Une adresse qu’on garde si nous revenons aux Raja Ampat !

The bungalows were simple, with 24 hour electricity and a bed with a mosquito net. We did find it quite difficult to sleep in the heat and there were some holes in our mosquito net (although I didn’t get bitten by any). The bathroom was adequate. My sister was sick for our stay unfortunately, but Christine was a lovely host and offered to help her by making food she was able to eat. The family were all very lovely and made it an effort to point out interesting birds around the area as they knew we were birdwatchers and as my sister was sick, we were unable to leave for any hikes. It was easy to organise hikes if we had been interested. The beach and the views were stunning, and we really enjoyed spending time in the water just outside our bungalow. We hope we can return one day.

I only spend one night there. The Bungalows are spacy and can be locked. The food was less good than expected by the reviews but is still yummy. The bathrooms could be cleaner. Its an excellence spot to do Bird of Paradise watching either with the owner in the Forest closeby or at Warkesi Forest.

In my bungalow there was a comfortable raised bed with a mosquito net in good condition, a small table, a fan, and a veranda with two chairs.
The bathrooms were as expected and toilet paper always available.
There is 24h electricity available as the homestay is connected with the Waigeo supply.
I found it a perfect place to relax after an intensive week‘s diving, reading on the veranda, chatting to the other guests at meal times and occasionally going snorkelling.
The best snorkelling was found to the right (West) of the guesthouse, on the other side of the small headland past the first jetty and all the way over to Saporkren village.
The hosts were very friendly and helpful, spending time pointing out wildlife to the guests. Organising excursions was very straightforward.

Nous avons passé trois nuits chez Warempurem Homestay, et l’expérience était tout simplement incroyable. Initialement, nous avions réservé un bungalow pour trois personnes, mais à notre arrivée, la famille nous a généreusement attribué deux bungalows. Ces bungalow offrent une vue folle sur l’océan, avec des vagues apaisantes qui ajoutent à la magie du lieu. Dès notre arrivée à Raja Ampat, le panorama nous émerveille. Et ça fait du bien après le périple pour venir ici.
La nourriture servie était délicieuse, et la gentillesse de la famille Warempurem nous a profondément touchés. Leur accueil chaleureux donne envie de prolonger le séjour.

Nous avons passé trois nuits chez Warempurem Homestay, et l’expérience était tout simplement incroyable. Initialement, nous avions réservé un bungalow pour trois personnes, mais à notre arrivée, la famille nous a généreusement attribué deux bungalows. Ces bungalow offrent une vue folle sur l’océan, avec des vagues apaisantes qui ajoutent à la magie du lieu. Dès notre arrivée à Raja Ampat, le panorama nous émerveille. Et ça fait du bien après le périple pour venir ici.
La nourriture servie était délicieuse, et la gentillesse de la famille Warempurem nous a profondément touchés. Leur accueil chaleureux donne envie de prolonger le séjour.

I want to say thank you for staying at this amazing homestay. The food is indeed amazing. The birdwatching went super well and it was a great success too. I spend a lot of time to watch Manta Rays jumping out of the water. Used my drone and saw whales, dolfins and even dugongs while flying in front of the homestay. For me as a passionate diver/freediver I have to say the reef in the area is not to great but I have very high standards. But I came for the birdwatching and I was amazed by the friendliness in the homestay and the villages around. I spend time playing football with the locals and had good fun exploring the neighbourhood. The guys from the homestay would often come up to us if they found a special bird or a couscous in the trees around. They have electricity all time and the phone connection is very good.
I can just say this place is worth staying a couple of days before going on the other islands.

I was drawn to the Warimpurem homestay on Waigeo Island for a couple of reasons in particular: first, a convenient place to view two different kinds of the famous birds-of-paradise; second, some reviews on the stayrajaampat website had suggested Christine’s cooking was “the best on the island”. Both of these came up trumps during my three-night stay with Christine and her family.
The food really was amazing – even surpassing my high expectations. Fish, chicken, prawns, eggplant, a variety of eggs including boiled eggs and omelettes, vegetable soup, spicy sambal, large amounts of watermelon, papaya and dragon fruit, plus unlimited hot tea, coffee and cold water. Prepared by Christine and her mum – interestingly her mum had visited my country of Scotland a few years ago in a cultural exchange with bed-and-breakfast owners on the Isle of Harris – the food (and there was lots of it) was something I looked forward to for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I made two trips to see the birds-of-paradise in the nearby rainforests. First, Christine’s brother Peter and a guide took me on an early morning walk to see the red cendrawasih. A rather draining, but genuinely atmospheric forty-minute uphill hike took us to the birding area just before dawn. We were rewarded with a long sighting of two red birds-of-paradise – visually they were magical, but their operatic singing voices were even more memorable.
My second birding trip to view the Wilson’s bird-of-paradise was much more of an expedition. I joined three fellow Australian guests at the homestay to hire a 4×4 jeep to take us closer to the viewing area, and after the adventurous journey along bumpy dirt tracks, it was a tricky thirty-minute hike through the jungle to reach our destination. The first images of this bird (which can only be found in these rainforests in Waigeo) ever to be filmed was recorded in 1996 by the legendary David Attenborough for the BBC documentary “Attenborough in Paradise”. He did so by dropping leaves on the forest floor, which frustrated the birds into removing them. And immediately upon our arrival just before sunrise, one of these illusive birds was singing and hopping around just ten metres from the birding hide. We had at least one hour of seeing this cendrawasih, and we believe we heard at least two others in the treetops. This long sighting of the brightly multi-coloured Wilson was one of the true highlights of my time in Raja Ampat. The back-story of how this bird was discovered really added to the magic of the occasion. And Christine has assembled an experienced and professional team which gives travellers the best possible chance of seeing these birds – and it really was a “team” – with a driver and two guides assisting us on our expedition.
The other real adventure I had during my stay at Warimpurem was numerous snorkelling journeys straight from the white sandy beach at the front of the homestay. Heading left took me past many castaway-style palm-tree fringed sandy beaches and dramatic limestone rock formations, and about thirty metres from the shore was a stunning coral reef drop-off which had wonderful rainbow-coloured coral and a kaleidoscope of bustling marine life, including two turtles, an uncountable number of intriguing black and white sea snakes, and many, many kinds of large and small fish. My longest snorkel/swim was four hours (it only felt like two hours when I was out there), and I did not use fins – simply diving boots. The sea was very calm with little or no tide to interrupt the snorkelling. Heading right from the homestay was equally rewarding, snorkelling past the village of Saporkren to a quiet white sandy beach just beyond the settlement.
I made two visits to the atmospheric Saporkren village. Draped in home-made recycled plastic festive decorations and blaring Christmas songs from incredibly large 1980’s style speakers, Saporkren was a wonderful place to meet local people. I had numerous long and interesting conversations, most notably a brother and sister duo who were studying in Australia and America respectively, and had returned home to their large family on Waigeo Island for a holiday. I was royally entertained with stories of studying abroad and also local life in Papua, and supplied with a remarkably sweet coconut which was part of a large amount brought by the family to their beach picnic in a red wheelbarrow. All-in-all, everyone I met in Saporkren was incredibly affable and hospitable, and I have many new friends I will stay in touch with for a long time to come.
The accommodation at Warimpurem was fabulous. I was in a wooden hut just off the beach – the resounding crescendo of the waves at night crashing into the shore was incredibly refreshing – the polar opposite of being a long-term expatriate in my apartment accommodation in north Jakarta! Toilet and shower facilities were great – I actually felt cleaner than I normally do in Jakarta, possibly due to the total lack of pollution in Raja Ampat. Washing mandi-style with a ladle from a bucket of cold water is one-above a modern hot shower any day of the week!
My time with Christine and her friendly and generous family – most of whom speak good English – was very rewarding and stimulating. I had high expectations for my time at Warimpurem, but on every level it was even better than I had anticipated. Many great memories of my time here: getting close to incredible wildlife and nature on land and at sea; a multitude of conversations with Christine and her family, and also a lovely Australian family who were at the homestay; and a large collection of great photos. I am very glad I chose this homestay for my time on Waigeo Island.

We stayed for 2 nights at this homestay and it was fine. Christine was not there to greet us when we arrived but we were shown to a very nice hut overlooking the bay. It was very hot but they gave us a small fan which made a huge difference. We did both the Wilson’s and the Red bird of paradise tours and both were fantastic. We used the 4WD to get up the hill to see the Wilson’s and were very glad we did because it would have been very hard work to walk there. The guides were very good and pointed out other birds as well. There is fresh water provided in the shared dining area for which we were grateful. We swam in the lovely warm water in front of our hut but did not see any reef. This is a great place to stay if you want to see the birds as the chap who took us was very knowledgeable and helpful.

We had a better experience at Warimpurem last time. This time, we arrived when Christina was shopping in Waisai, so dinner was served very late. The second night was better. I enjoy this location for a first night Homestay on Waigeo because we were able to arrange an excellent bird tour.

We were a group of five people and we stayed only for two nights. It would be nice to stay longer because we liked everything about this homestay:
1. The family is very nice and and caring. They really enjoy the hospitality business.
2. Every meal is a special threat. There is good variety of food, vegetables, fruit. Since we were unable to stay for lunch at our departure day, they fixed us very big and tasy breakfast.
3. We did two birds of paradise tours that were great. The guides showed us other birds as well. It was very professional. To see the Wilson bird of paradise we used the 4WD vehicle because it was quit far to walk.
4. We have seen dolphins swimming in front of the homestay.
5. Even though the reef is not as nice as in other areas fo Raja Ampat we have seen huge schools of fish in the little bay behing the village and that made the snorkeling unforgettable.
6. The huts are basic, the mattress is very comforatable, there is one shower, one western toilet and one traditional toilet. Homestay is located on a secluded beach separated by rocks on both sides. It is a very nice place.

I had the pleasure of staying for three nights, and it was an unforgettable experience. From my hut, I was lucky enough to spot three dugongs right in front of me, a rare and incredible sight. The trees around my hut were teeming with wildlife, including sulphur-crested cockatoos, cuscus, black palm cockatoos, kookaburras, kingfishers, and many other beautiful birds.
The food here is absolutely amazing. Normally, I tend to lose weight while traveling, but this time, I’m sure I gained some! The portions are generous, and the variety is impressive. Everything was absolutely delicious.
I also had the chance to see the red birds of paradise, which was a great success. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to see Wilson’s bird of paradise due to a full day of heavy rain, but that’s nature for you.
The family here is lovely and welcoming. I definitely recommend staying at this place. The hut and facilities were clean and well-maintained. My only suggestion would be to have a list of activities available in the dining area. While Christine and a few others speak English, not everyone does, so this would help guests understand what activities are available and book more of them, which could bring in additional income.

We stayed at Warimpurum homestay in May 2024 for a week. It was a real highlight of our trip. The family were lovely, the birdlife and bird watching tours were astounding, the little bay was tranquil and beautiful with good snorkeling. We watched whales and dolphins swim past. The bungalow was a comfy and as we expected from a rustic island stay, with comfy bed and good mosquito net. We ate lovely food all week including vegetarian options for my husband every day. A little slice of paradise.

Warimpurem is a quiet homestay located in a little cove with a private beach and direct access to the reef in front.
I stayed in a bungalow on the beach that was roomy and comfortable. Loved the sound of the waves.
The family is very sweet and lovely. The food is delicious and plentiful!! Lots of fish cooked every which way which was excellent! I ate very well!!
The village is a nice walk away as is the jungle for birding.

Warimpurem is a quiet homestay located in a little cove with a private beach and direct access to the reef in front.
I stayed in a bungalow on the beach that was roomy and comfortable. Loved the sound of the waves.
The family is very sweet and lovely. The food is delicious and plentiful!! Lots of fish cooked every which way which was excellent! I ate very well!!
The village is a nice walk away as is the jungle for birding.
Warimpurem is a quiet and beautiful place! I would recommend it definitely!

We spent a couple of nights at Warimpurem Homestay in the end of January 2024. The main reason we booked there was to see the birds of paradise. This was a great experience: we saw both and were able to take beautiful pictures and videos. We went to see the “blue” birds (Wilson’s) late in the afternoon. Even though we are used to trekking (as Swiss), this proved strenuous: 3.5 hours, partly under the sun, roughly 400 meters altitude. We were completely soaked and rather tired upon return (no good for photography under dim light in the forest, where a steady hand would come handy). Going early in the morning might be better, and maybe accepting the offer to rent a 4×4 for most of the way. The observation site for the red bids is only about 30 minutes from the homestay (part of it on a slippery path after rain). We went early in the morning and were spoiled: 2 females, 4 males, 60 minutes outstanding spectacle.

Pas d’information sur ce qu’il y a à faire/visiter autour, il vaut mieux savoir avant de venir. Mais si vous demandez, Kristin peut organiser une balade pour découvrir les oiseaux par exemple, elle répond aux demandes avec beaucoup de gentillesse.

The food was incredible, a real pleasure to stay there. We’ve booked a tour with them to see the Wilson’s bird of paradise and it was absolutely worth joining this activity. The reef has even rare species of ghostpipe fish and of course the abundance of Raja Ampats corals and reef fish.
For us it is a 100% recommendation.

There are a few dogs around, all of them friendly and a bit shy. Our bungalow was comfortable and the verandah was a great spot to watch the sunset. We can highly recommend it. Thank you very much!

What an amazing place. Just beautiful. The whole family were lovely and more than helpful. The food was amazing with so much flavour and fresh vegetables.
We were very well looked after and got great views of both the Wilson’s BOP and the Red BOP.
Nothing was too much trouble. I hope we get to go back one day.

The best food we have eaten during our stay in RJ4:-) (compared with 3 other home stays)!! After 1,5 months in different locations in Raja Ampat we were a bit tired and bored of food, Christine knew it and they did a Real magic and served us the variety of dishes which we were only dreaming about before. Abraham together with Merlin were organizing great birding to Red and Wilson’s bird of paradise. Abraham went also with us to Sorong and arranged a trekking to magnificient bird of paradise (2 hours with a car from Sorong). The place is just perfect for families travelling with kids as so many kids living there and playing around too. Can only recommend this homestay and the lovely family!

+ The people alerted us if they spotted birds or other wildlife. We saw the red birds of paradise, white and black cockatoos, imperial pigeon just causally playing and feeding at the trees in the yard of the homestay.
+ The Wilson’s BOP spot was so close to the display, we could see the charming birds comfortably. We trekked to the spot with Marlon from Sapokren, as Abraham was not available. Despite Marlon’s relatively young age, he is a very knowledgeable bird guide, enthusiastically identifying birds (even with only their calls) and other wildlife along the way.
+ Whenever we needed anything to be arranged, it was always easily done by contacting Kristin via whatsapp or just finding her around the homestay.
+ Lovely bungalow with raised bed and mosquito net. Nifty shower in one of the bathroom.
+ Snorkeling in the house reef was good.

The surrounding countryside is gorgeous, really fun to walk to Sapokren and talk to the lovely, friendly locals. You can see black and white cockatoos and hornbills easily just going for a walk up and down the road. Definitely a lovely place to stay, especially if you need to be near Waisai. I didn’t get the chance to see the BoP because I was sick but Abraham is really lovely and obviously knowledge so I imagine it would be a great experience

Exactly as described, nice house reef, great bird guide with Abraham. Lovely food. Only downside was on the days when all rooms were full (group tour) they all took it in turns to have a shower in the room with the western toilet meaning waiting upwards of half an hour for the toilet. Other than that lovely stay, would stay again.

Während unseres 12-tägigen Aufenthalts servierten sie das Essen kaum das gleiche und jede Mahlzeit War wirklich lecker und authentisches lokales Essen. Ich bin erstaunt über ihre Fähigkeit, Variationen wie Beilagen zu machen (tempeh, tahu, jagung bakwan), Gemüse, Fisch oder Hühnchen zu reservieren.
Der Ruf des Essens ist damit bestätigt.
Umgebung:
Wir sahen einen originalen Papua-Lemuren auf dem Ketapang-Baum und ein schwarzen sowie weißen Kakadus. Außerdem singen alle Arten von Vögeln jeden Morgen von 4:45 Uhr bis 5:15 Uhr. Warimpurem Homestay ist ein Paradies für Vogelliebhaber.
Wir sind beide keine Taucher, so dass wir das Meer nur durch unsere Schnorchelausrüstung genießen können. Vor der zweiten Hütte von rechts finden Sie einige Korallen und Fische.
Vielleicht sind es nicht die besten Korallen, aber für uns reicht es und sieht ziemlich gut aus. Jedes Mal, wenn wir schnorchelten, sahen wir verschiedene Arten von Fischen, die die Korallen umgeben. Wir haben davon auch paar Videos mit unserem Handy gemacht.
Während unseres Aufenthaltes sahen wir viele Male Delphine vor unserer Hütte herum Schwimmen.
Jeden Abend genossen wir die prächtige Milchstraßengalaxie.
Ausflüge:
Wir machten eine Vogelbeobachtungstour mit Abraham durch den Dschungel. Die Fahrt war sehr früh am Morgen 05:30 Uhr und es war noch dunkel. Wir sahen die Vögel und hatten das Glück, dass viele männliche Vögel eine Weile tanzten.
Ich ging mit Kristin auf dem Motorrad zum traditionellen Wasai-Markt, der der nächstgelegene Markt für die Menschen in dieser Bucht ist.
Wir haben an mehreren Tagen schöne Ausflüge mit dem Fischerboot gemacht, es gibt tolle Locations zu erkunden. Einfach fragen und sie bieten die Fahrt mit dem Boot an, z. B. nach Piaynemo – Telaga bintang – Arborek
Wir haben Ausflüge zum Schnorcheln mit Arnold in mehreren verschiedenen Orten gemacht. Wir sind auf jeden nicht enttäuscht.

We had a really fantastic time with Abraham and his family. He really made sure we were well looked after and we were really interested to talk to him and learn about the island.
The food was really brilliant – they fed us plenty of authentic local food, it was some of the best we have had! Really delicious vegetable dishes, soups, fish etc.
The accommodation was great – very simply but perfect if you’re here to enjoy nature. Right on the beach too – it was so beautiful.

Highly recommend staying at Warimpurem – we had such a lovely relaxing time here!
We had a really fantastic time with Abraham and his family. He really made sure we were well looked after and we were really interested to talk to him and learn about the island.
The food was really brilliant – they fed us plenty of authentic local food, it was some of the best we have had! Really delicious vegetable dishes, soups, fish etc.
The accommodation was great – very simply but perfect if you’re here to enjoy nature. Right on the beach too – it was so beautiful.

Though the huts are basic and the reef is poor, the food served in this homestay is really very good. It is original, tasteful and plenty. As a dutch citizen we are used to eat indonesian food, and is is how it should be, no tourist meal. Just very tasteful food. They use fresh local spice. The meals are varied and suprising. The homestay is great for birdwatching. Even next to the homestay you find kookaburra’s. At the homestay lives a cuscus. Large yellow crested Kakatoes can be seen from the road to waisai. The jungle nearby in the morning is full of singing birds. For birdwatchers a very good place to stay.. thanks

I stayed for 2 nights, overall it was very good, people are very nice and helpful and food was really very good. It’s very basic as youd probably expect, 24 hour electricity though which was nice and a fan in the room, only complaint is some of the bedding was dirty in my room. There’s also not really much of a beach as the beach front huts are right on it.

Bungalow at the beach is nice.
We did 2 trips, one to see the wilson and the other to see the red bird of paradise. The organisation was great.
The owner has a fridge so if you take your beers with you he can keep them cold.

We had a wonderful experience at this homestay. The family was extremely hospitable, warm and friendly. Mama Angelina’s cooking was really delicious, including diverse vegetarian cuisine with local vegetables and herbs. The cottage faced the sea and was simple, spacious and clean. There was a beautiful secluded beach and bay in front for swimming, snorkeling and hanging out. The family called us and pointed out various fauna that came on site such as owls, cuscus, birds of paradise, cuckoo doves, etc. It was a pleasure to chat with the various members. We could walk from there through a scenic wooden walkway to a local village and also access another good snorkeling site and beach. We loved it and will definitely go back😃

Well, we booked Warimpurim based on the food reviews and were not disappointed. The meals were always delicious and special, obviously prepared with enjoyment, and overly plentiful.
The family was so friendly and open. The bathrooms and showers were always clean. It was the perfect introduction to our adventure in Raja Ampat.

This was the second homestay I stayed in Raja Ampat. I was very impressed with, first, hospitality. The family welcomed me in warmth. The way they treated guests were family-like.
Secondly, cleanliness. Toilet is the cleanest I found in the island. Room amenities for such homestay were above standard, I should say: towel, mat, and umbrella!
Last but not least, oh, the food!!! Mama Engel is such the best chef. Fruits were served differently in breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Menu example for breakfast: homemade cake, egg, bread, omelette, and dragonfruit. Dinner: traditional brenebon soup (red bean and meat or chicken), vegetable, grilled fish, sweet soy sauce and chili padi for dipping, and orange. Lunch is alike with different main course, soup, stir-fry vegetable, and other fruits. Milk, peanut butter, chocolate spread, jams, cheese slice, coffee, tea, were served 24 hours.
This is way totally different with the other homestay in the other island where I had one dish only for breakfast, such as banana fritters, or cake, and fruit was only banana from day one until five.
I would say Warimpurem homestay is one-step-ahead in standard level of hospitality from the others in the island.

But the best thing was the family. Engelina not only booked our ferry tickets but came with us to the ferry to make sure we got on it. Abraham was a very good birding guide and we saw both birds of paradise. There is also a very pleasant and interesting walk to the village and it is also easy to walk to the jungle to look for birds.

The rooms were good with comfortable beds with mosquito netting (there aren’t a lot of mosquitos) and a balcony with a view out to the Dampier Straight. Food was excellent and our vegetarian diet was easily accommodated. We got fruit with every lunch and dinner and there were bananas available all the time. The food was probably the best out of the homestays that we stayed at.
The ablution block was basic and it would have helped to have had the used toilet paper removed more often.
There is good snorkelling from the beach with corals, sea squirt and lots of fish. We saw a Waigeo cuscus near the homestay on two nights. Sulphur-crested cockatoo and friar birds were abundant around the homestay and we saw Eclectus parrots, Palm cockatoo, hornbill, kookaburra, frigate birds, osprey, butcher birds and several species of pigeons and doves. Abraham took us on the Bird of Paradise tour. He was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide, and spoke good English. The tour was great and we saw both Red and Wilsons’ Birds of Paradise. It was good to be able to walk to the local village, and also along the road for spotting birds.
The homestay owner has limited English, but we were greatly helped by Stay Raja Ampat staff who were staying at the homestay.

The huts are basic but very spacious and you always feel the sea-breeze, natural aircon 😉 The homestay is located at a private beach and close to Waisai and scubarepublic dive center so ideal before or after a live-aboard with them. The coral reef is outstanding and just 30meters from the beach. It is 10-15 minutes walk to the village where you will meet many friendly kids fishing. The food is super delicious and plentiful I could never finish it. Also as a vegetarian, I had always a variety of yummy dishes to choose from. Thank you very much to the family and I will be back 🙂

Me and friends spent 2 nights at Warimpuren in february 2019 and we realy enjoy it. Good food, big bungalow (very good sleeping) impressive night life (birds and animals) and good house reef (go west from Warimpuren, toward Saporkren village). One of my friend go to see the birds of paradise and saw them very close, he was very happy of his excursion. 5 stars

There were 2 chairs and a table on the veranda. The food is as good as all the other reviews say and Abraham is always there if you need anything, his English is good and he is fun to hang out with, loves to laugh.
The Coral is good with lots of fish. It’s too bad I had to leave at the last minute or I would have stayed longer.

The only thing we felt that could have been better was the price. It’s 400,000 compared to the standard of 350,000 we paid in other places we stayed. I know it’s 50,000 but in our opinion it didn’t stand out enough to pay the extra 50,000.

We stayed at Warimpurem guest house in January 2019 for 5 nights.
We arrived at sunrise and were welcomed with breakfast soon after and a comfortable clean bungalow with a real bed and mosquito net. We also had a nice shaded verandah with comfortable chairs and a table. Inside the bungalow was a small cupboard for storing small things. Our cabin was absolute beach front with beautiful views across to Gam Island.
The family were really friendly with Joseph speaking fluent English and being a really friendly , helpful , fun loving person. He was shy at first but took us to look for cuscus, birds of paradise, to Wasai to see the doctor and visit the bank, bought us things on request when visiting Wasai and spent time chatting and sharing jokes. A really lovely man.
The food was gourmet standard. Fresh tuna grilled, fried, curried, cooked whole with delicious flavours, eggplant, beans, water spinach, tempeh with peanuts, noodles, fried rice, fresh fruit, freshly baked cakes, fried bananas in batter, coffee ,tea all delicious! We never had the same food twice and we always ate too much because it was so delicious, diverse and plentiful.
Please publish a cookbook.
The reef was good with lots of coral and fish. I even saw lobsters hiding under rocks. Dolphins went past everyday.
There were large butterflies flying around the compound everyday, a regular visiting palm cockatoo and lots of other birds flying around nearby.
There is a road behind the guesthouse that you can walk along to watch birds and butterflies easily. It is a quiet road with little traffic but it is useful if you want to visit Wasai.
We went to see the BOP with Abraham. We saw the Wilson’s bird of paradise but missed the red bird of paradise. Other guests saw the latter the day before so we were just unlucky.
There is a really lovely village nearby called Saporkren that you can visit by walking on a boardwalk around the coast. The people are welcoming and curious.

We only stayed in his homestay one night, but it was a great experience. The homestay was a very elaborate bungalow with a big comfortable bed and spacious room. Food was great too and sunsets are spectacular. Abraham was willing to chat and give us tips and helped us to arrange a taxi to the ferry. It’s a great place to stay on the way to Sorong or even longer, especially if you want to see Birds of Paradise.

It’s a great place to stay on the way to Sorong or even longer, especially if you want to see Birds of Paradise.

We loved the Warimpurem Homestay. Our room was very comfortable. The food was excellent and plentiful and we appreciated the extra snacks mid-afternoon. Between 17 and 21 Nov 2018 my husband and I stayed at Warimpurem Homestay located on Waigeo island, between Waisai and Saporkren village. The host family was very lovely and helpful. The bungalows are basic but great (we stayed at the beach bungalow). The food prepared and served by the host family was absolutely delicious! Abraham – one of the sons/cousins of the homestay’s owner who also lives there – is a great local bird guide! He took us and another tourist couple for a bird-watching tour into the nearby forest to see two different species of Birds of Paradise – Red BOP and Wilson’s BOP. The trip was great and very successful – apart from both BOPs we have also seen other interesting bird species. I can thoroughly recommend staying at the Warimpurem Homestay and arranging birding tours with Abraham from the homestay. One thing to NOTE for all tourists – please avoid bringing single use plastics and packaged products as it appears that there is no official waste management system or infrastructure in the area and one way or another, your plastic/metal rubbish might end up on the beaches or in the ocean. If you can, I suggest you don’t bring such items but if you really must, try to take your inorganic rubbish away and dispose of it in a bigger city / back home.

Christine and Engelline know how to cook for vegetarians, using yummy spices and sauces. Yay! Laura, who lives there and is fluent in English, was helpful in making excursion arrangements. Some nights got quite warm and there’s no electricity during the night for a fan, but that’s the case in most homestays on R4. Being right on the beach helped. The house reef is excellent, and there are so many fabulous reefs to snorkel and dive just a short boat ride away. We paid just 1.4 million RP for a boat for full day of snorkeling. The family at Warimpuren is lovely, respecting privacy while also being thoughtful and available. The dogs and cats are well cared for and friendly. We highly recommend it!

Stayed there 2 nights and we had an amazing time at Warimpurem homestay. Our pick up was accurate at waisai harbour and our hosts were very nice. The food was far the best in Raja Ampat. Their snorkeling and bird watching tours were enjoyable and well organised as well. Thank you and we can only recommend staying at this homestay.

Transportation – Once off the ferry, the really nice guys at the tourist information centre (where you buy your permits) were expecting us and showed us to a car… Waripurem was approx 20 mins away. Also, arranging a boat to our next homesty on Kri was very easy and for an extra 100Rp, our driver stopped at Firwen Wall for an hour so we could snorkel.
Food – was excellent… incredible whole fresh fish, fresh fruit and a great selection of veggies – it was 100% the best food we had during our stay in Raja Ampat! On a general note (not just relevant for here) – if you’re a big coffee drinker, bring your own as its only the local dusty stuff that is provided at home stays and no milk / creamer. And if you’re in to spicy, we were very glad e brought our own chilli sauce!
Location – was great, right on the beach and easy taxi ride in to town which Abrahim can arrange for you! The snorkelling off the beach is lovely and your right on the edge of the forest so have a good chance at spotting wildlife. We saw two Cous Cous, fireflies and tonnes of beautiful birds.
Staff – were outstanding… Abrahim speaks amazing English and is super helpful and chatty. He and his friend guided us on the Bird Of Paradise tour and couldn’t have been nicer.
Birds of Paradise – we saw both Wilsons and Red Birds of Paradise – leaving at 4:30am for the walk in the dark up the hill (bring a torch and wear trainers!). The area has been set up well for watching the birds and we were super impressed. If you have dodgy knees / ankles – make sure you wear proper shoes as it can be slippy on the way down and theres a few ups and downs when you’re walking through the forest
Cleanliness – our rooms and communal areas were kept very clean and tidy.
We loved our short time here and would highly recommend!

Wife and I stayed at warimpurem for a week in feb 18 and loved it! The location, the housereef, the tours and the food are all phenomenal. Abraham was an amazing guide with a really good eye for spotting wildlife and the whole homestay family is so sweet. Highly recommended!

We only stayed at Warimpurem for one night before heading to Waisai to catch the ferry, but wish it could have been more. We went on the birdwatching trip with Abraham to see both Red and Wilson’s Birds of Paradise, which was fantastic (400,000/person). We saw mantas and dolphins from the shore and enjoyed snorkeling the house reef. The food was the best we experienced in Raja Ampat, with lots of diversity. The dining room was lovely and had a sink for handwashing as well as charging stations. There’s also a real shower. Warimpurem was one of two out of our five homestays that provided afternoon snacks. It also seems like the cleanest homestay we stayed in. The family was absolutely lovely, especially Mama. Laura—who works for Stay Raja Ampat—also lives at Warimpurem and takes her meals with guests. There isn’t a boat on hand, which might make it difficult to organize snorkeling trips if desired, but we didn’t enquire. I am 5’10” tall (1.75mr) and I was too long for the bed, managing to kick the net out during the night. There was a small dresser with a cupboard, which should be used to store all liquids, gels etc that will get chewed by the rats who are very inquisitive and test everything that is left out and accessible. There is also a line and a few pegs to hang clothing and small bags from, but we lived from our suitcases for two nights.
There is a small veranda to sit on with two chairs supplied, but we preferred to sit at the tables or lounge in the hammocks in the communal dining area when relaxing. The food is served at 0800, 1200 and 1900 and is what the family are eating in their home. Hot drinks are available all day and a free water supply to fill your bottles from. Breakfast is cake and fruit. Rice is the mainstay of lunch and dinner along with a variety of vegetable dishes and usually fish for lunch and chicken for the evening meal cooked in a delicious Papuan sauce/coating and well spiced and full of flavour. Most probably the best food we ate during our stay in Raja Ampat.
If you want to do the BOP trek speak to Abraham and he will take you up into the Rain Forest, setting off at 5am, returning at about 9.30am for a late breakfast. Make sure you take a small snack, plenty of drinking water, insect repellent, camera and binoculars. Abraham points things of interest on the way up, but likes to move at a good pace in order to get to the first viewing point to see the Red BOP in the treetops. Then it’s on to the hide to see Wilsons BOP. We had two amazing experiences seeing a mating pair of Red BOP and watching the Wilsons BOP cleaning his stage and displaying in his arena.
Warimpurem is a genuine homestay and you live along side the family going about their daily lives and the children playing and having fun. Try and interact with them all as they really appreciate having you stay with them and are always ready to try and help make your stay a wonderful experience.
We were lucky enough to experience seeing the locals celebrating Christmas and New Year during our stay West Papua. In particular on New Years Day in the village of Saporkren we witnessed the local parade, the men beat handmade drums and the ladies played bamboo flutes and all the locals did their dance up and down the main street in two lines with the children in the middle all dressed in their Sunday best.

We stayed at Warimpurem with the goal of seeing birds of paradise, and on that count it delivered!
We had a great birdwatching tour with Abraham, a knowledgeable guide and quite a character. We saw the Red Bird of Paradise and Wilson’s Bird of Paradise. Abraham’s skills are impressive. As we got close to the area where the Wilson’s displays, Abraham could tell by the sound of its calls that it was in its lek and we couldn’t approach without scaring it away. We waited until it was safe to sneak up on the lek and were treated to the sight of the bird tidying its display area. Not all guides demonstrate this level of care and attention!
Warimpurem is in a prime location for other birds. We walked the road 10-15 minutes in the direction of Waisai, where there is a banana plantation amidst the jungle. In the mornings and late afternoons, this area is alive with bird calls and hornbills, parrots, and cockatoos swooping between the trees. It felt like the Lost World, paved road notwithstanding, and was a nice complement to the water-based activities in Raja Ampat.
Speaking of the ocean, Warimpurem didn’t quite measure up to Gam, Kri, and Arborek as a snorkel destination. When we ventured in, the visibility was terrible and the seagrass stretched out a long way from shore before the coral started. The reef felt a bit more exposed to the open sea than in other places, so we didn’t snorkel much. The birds and jungle made up for the lack of spectacular snorkeling.
As everyone else has commented, the food is excellent and abundant. We appreciated the late afternoon snacks, it would be nice if all homestays provided this.

It was our first homestay when we arrived in Raja Ampat. The bungalows were very good and the place very clean but after my experience of having tried the food in other homestays I trully could say that the food is THE BEST in all Raja Ampat: the variety, the way they cook and serve the meals, the desert after the meals … a lot of details to be appreciated.
However on the other hand they are not very helpfull in solving problems if you want to move to other islands. And also we wanted to pay in credit card because of a big sign they have but their machines didn’t work.
It’s a perfect homestay just to see the birds and walk in the Saporkren village.

The bathroons are pretty clean too by the way.
The reef right off the beach was amazing for snorkeling and a dive center was nearby.
The owners – especially Mama Enggi – were very welcoming and along with that made some of the nicest food we had in all of indonesia.
I guess I will have to come back one day.

-the bungalow over the water is nice
-the walk to the nearest village along and above the sea is a delight
-Fahmy speaks excellent English and really cares about his guests. He helped me to solve several problems, was totally reliable and competent. He also organises lEnglish lessons for children and was a great teaching partner. The children were keen to learn and remembered what we had done about one month later. You will enjoy the experience.
-Fahmy also organised an excursion to the Red Bird of Paradise. We only saw the bird for a few second but it was still worth it, I think. And you might be luckier

We were so happy we stayed at Warimpurem on our birding tour of West Papua. The food was easily the best we had on our holiday – and that includes fancied hotels on the mainland. I stayed 5 days at the Warimpurem Homestay and I felt very welcome. Mama Enggi is a really good cook and a lovely person, so is the rest of the family! Transport from Waisai Harbor to the Homestay was well prepared, even stops for small shopping has been made possible. The Bungalow I stayed in was very close to the beach, so not even a fan is needed in the room, ’cause it got good ventilation. Bungalow as well as toilet and mandi were both very clean! Towel, blanket, pillow – all provided and even changed after a few days! The family took me on a boattrip to another Homestay and to the market in Waisai. It was a very nice experience. And also Fahmy and Laura, both Javanese people living at the Homestay are very very helpful, nice and always in the mood for a nice chat. Even though Mama does speak little English (and me less than little Bahasa) we laughed both a lot about the stories of each other that were told with the hand of hands and feet 🙂 I would definitely recommend staying there!

I stayed in Waripurem nearly 2 weeks in February because it is the nearest homestay to the hospital in Waisai. I had an accident in Sorong and wanted to wait here until I was sure the wound would heal.
The family was very friendly and did everything to make my stay enjoyable.
The food was excellent. Every time something else always with various vegetables and fruits. Mama Engge is a really good cook.
And at the meals I enjoyed the company of Fahmy when he was here. He was so helpful at any time. And I was happy to speak bahasa indonesia with him and I learned a lot.
I could not swimm but spent a lot of time im my hammok.
I have seen that other tourists who stayed here during my time enjoyed a lot snorkelling trips from here and also have seen both birds of paradise and other birds on a birdwalk

We stayed at Warimpurem Homestay for two days, one night as a convenient waypoint on our arrival into Raja Ampat and break the journey onwards to Manyaifun. We were warmly received and enjoyed the reef by the homestay, relaxing in the sea and an early morning birdwatching excursion into the valley near Saproken.
The pickup was prompt, homestay is clean, tidy with the basics to get you started. It was great help having Fami, a helpful english tourism teacher who is now resident at the homestay and can help converse in english. On the birdwatching trip, our guides were Bruhm and Mel – two of the family members from the homestay. They don’t speak much english, so if you choose to do this trip, do speak slowly to them – they are bright and will carry a bird identification book to point out features. We got to experience a very short performance of the Wilson Bird of Paradise in the rainforest jungle along with calls from Butcher Bird, Mimic Bird, Red BoP* and saw a pair of Hornbills, White Crested Coacatoos, Imperial Pinon Pigeons, honeyeaters, parrots, green and purple winged parrots (absolutely stunning in flight) and many swifts, butterflies, kingfishers and other rainforest creatures.
The food was lovely and the family, despite of having a family gathering for a funeral at a neighbouring village ensured that we had company and food till our pick up arrived in late afternoon.
The homestay is clean, friendly and offers a fantastic entry point to your Raja Ampat experience.
* Note – If you are going to want to see the Bird of Paradise, the Red BOP is spotted on treetops high up in the mountain on this island so the trips are different than that for the Wilson BOP – on other islands, you can mix the trip and spotting them in one trip is easier.

It was great help having Fami, a helpful english tourism teacher who is now resident at the homestay and can help converse in english. On the birdwatching trip, our guides were Bruhm and Mel – two of the family members from the homestay. They don’t speak much english, so if you choose to do this trip, do speak slowly to them – they are bright and will carry a bird identification book to point out features. We got to experience a very short performance of the Wilson Bird of Paradise in the rainforest jungle along with calls from Butcher Bird, Mimic Bird, Red BoP* and saw a pair of Hornbills, White Crested Coacatoos, Imperial Pinon Pigeons, honeyeaters, parrots, green and purple winged parrots (absolutely stunning in flight) and many swifts, butterflies, kingfishers and other rainforest creatures.
The food was lovely and the family, despite of having a family gathering for a funeral at a neighbouring village ensured that we had company and food till our pick up arrived in late afternoon.
The homestay is clean, friendly and offers a fantastic entry point to your Raja Ampat experience.
* Note – If you are going to want to see the Bird of Paradise, the Red BOP is spotted on treetops high up in the mountain on this island so the trips are different than that for the Wilson BOP – on other islands, you can mix the trip and spotting them in one trip is easier.

The food is absolutely delicious!! and all family members were paying attention to us in every moment, really interested about our needs. There are at least three meals everyday and cofee and tea available during all the day: fish, meat, vegetables, cakes… Bungalows are very nice and toilet and “dining room” are well prepared. Good snorkelling place around the homestay and also around the village. We also went to see the paradise birds, which is a very nice and enjoyable trip. The village is at 15 minuts walking, and it’s nice to visit it if youu are interested not just in diving and snorkelling. Very good experience!! I really recommend it!!!

I was been here 01/05/16-05/05/16. I coming here only for birding. The homestay as very simple but clean, food its’ ok but every day the same meals – fishes, vegetables, banana. The family were warm and wonderful. But no one speak english there is a big problem! because I came especially from Sulawesi to see and take a photos two species of Birds of paradise and other birds. I was been were disappointing because there were doesn’t has a Bird Guide Benny Mambrassar, he was in Manokwari at these dates, But I wrote and had informed before several times. The owner offered me the cuisin of Benny, HE DON’T SPEAK ENGLISH. I had some problems, doesn’t seen Wilson BOP, very small species of the birds. I walking by own and seen more birds than we birding together. Be aware and be carefully!

Also snorkel along the same route from mamas to Sapokareng, the plate coral and fish diversity are amazing.

Engelina and her family were so kind to us. It was like having a holiday family. The kids Peter and Jeremy were always up for having fun, it had a very warm, loving feeling at Warimpurem. Amazing food, fantastic views, 2 beaches, and great snorkelling. The dive resort next door ( raja amput dive resort) also had great dive trips, very well organised buisness. We went on a birds of paradise walk with Milky and Bram, up early at 4 am, saw both red bird of paradise and Wilson’s, great to be so immersed in nature.
Bram was very helpful in translating and would often offer to go to the shop and pick up supplies ( cold beer 🙂 We had a phrase book and had lots of fun communicating our thoughts and ideas with Engelina, she is a very patient teacher.

The beautiful film “Journey to the South Pacific” was the inspiration for our visit to Raja. At first we had planned to stay in a resort, but after discovering this amazing website, we decided to try the homestays, and we’re thrilled we did. This site did a really good job of presenting a realistic picture of what to expect from the homestay experience. We were in Raja for 9 days and we stayed at three homestays. They were very different and equally wonderful in their own way. At all three homestays, we were the only guests.
Here is our review/comparison:
KORYAU KAYEM/Mansuar
Freddy, the owner was waiting for us as we disembarked from the Sorong Ferry and whisked us right to Mansuar. This homestay is in a great location because it is so central, yet feels remote.
Pros- the homestay bungalow was huge, with a wonderful terrace from which to view the sunrise peeking over nearby Kri. Bathroom (separate toilet and shower!) was in a lovely grove of coconut palms and was very clean, and private. Over water location kept us relatively cool. Freddy runs the generator well past midnight, so charging your devices is not an issue. Meals were served on our own terrace, and the food, while very basic, was varied enough and there was plenty. Reef, reef, reef- snorkeling was excellent right off the homestay. It’s just a short, beautiful walk to nearby Yenbuba village where snorkeling was also amazing off the pier. Freddy was very social.
Cons- Freddy could use a touch of maintenance on his place. We found some torn roofing so if it rained, you might get some wet belongings. Also three of the four chairs were broken, so we used the broken chairs as side tables for our electronics and toiletries (there was a large dining table on the verandah, however).
YENDABABO/Southern Gam (Kordiris)
Yendababo Homestay is on one end of a breathtaking sweep of beach. Mathias, the owner lives on site with his family. When we approached the Homestay by boat, we were a bit nonplussed to see four large modern bungalows with bright blue plastic roofs next to several traditional Papuan style huts. We were offered a choice to stay in the newer bungalows (private ensuite baths in each) but opted for the traditional hut. Mathias lives onsite with his family.
Pros- the beach location with soft, white sand, palm trees, and emerald water is unsurpassed. The house reef had the most amazing variety of coral we saw anywhere. It was spectacular and we snorkeled several times a day during out stay. Our bungalow was not huge, but it was very well maintained, comfy mattress, and just steps away from the water. There was a very large table on our covered verandah for storing toiletries, electronics and whatnot. Mathias and family were ultra-accommodating…when he saw the one plug was not quite enough for our rechargeable camera batteries and phone, he instantly installed a power strip. Meals, served in the dining pavilion, were fantastic- wonderful fish, fried rice and eggs for breakfast, fresh vegetables, and plenty to eat. Excursion to Kubui Bay and The Passage would have been wonderful on its own, but Mathias also took us to Hidden Bay, a jaw-dropping inlet with turquoise and emerald green water, dotted with small islands. He also took us to several special snorkeling spots away from the homestay.
Cons – although the bath hut contained a western-style toilet and western-style hand shower, both were in the same room- would’ve preferred separate spaces.
Mathias is in the process of modernizing his homestay into a dive-oriented enterprise which he hopes to debut this summer. Although we realized the dive business is more lucrative, we fear the traditional spirit of Yendababo may be lost.
WARIMPUREM/Waisai (Waigeo)
This homestay felt very different from the others in that it is on the main island, and not so remote. Yet, Warimpurem was full of wonderful surprises that made it very special. The owner (did not remember his name) and his wife, the legendary Mama Engge, live on site with various relatives.
Pros-the family at Warimpurem was probably the most friendly and inviting of all we came in contact with. And Mama Engge’s reputation as a fantastic cook is not overstated. The food we had here was incredible. One of our favorite memories, was daily tea around 430/5p when we were served fried plantains, which were the best we had ever tasted. The homestay property features a wonderful natural spring, which is exposed at low tide. The water is refreshing, and it is lovely to sit in it and watch the kids at play. We even joined some local women and did a bit of laundry there. There is something called the Firefly Tree, and it is magical. At night, thousands of fireflies light up a tree by the entrance to the homestay, and flash their lights on and off as if on the same circuit. It was breathtaking. Also, this homestay is close to more birdlife than most others, including the famed Bird of Paradise, although when we saw him, he did not display .
Cons- Snorkeling was just ok here. Because our bungalow was away from the beach, and a bit more in the jungle, this was the only place where we experienced some mosquitoes, but there weren’t very many. The squat toilet (which actually wasn’t so bad) and the dip shower were in the same space when a separation would have been better. However, we spotted three nearly completed brand new buildings with western-style toilet and separate showers nearby so this won’t be an issue moving forward.

I stayed at Warimpurem Homestay for 5 nights in May 2014. I was blown away by its secluded beauty, simple lifestyle, warm family, and excellent sea food. Even though I was a female solo traveler first time in Raja Ampat with not much planning in advance, I was able to enjoy myself to the fullest especially because the family took care of me very well and helped me make arrangement for my activities every day. I think Waiego is the most accessible island in Raja Ampat, if you have limited time and budget, and Warimpurem Homestay can be a good base for those who plan on doing island hopping, snorkeling/diving, as well as exploring the interior jungle of the island. One of the highlights of my adventurous day (other than delicious dinner, of course) was to bath in the spring water overlooking the calm ocean in front of the homestay. I really hope to go back there soon again.

Hi nerin – You will need to bring your own snorkeling gear with you to Warimpurem. There are some beautiful beaches close to Warimpurem. You can easily walk to them. Hope that helps and you have a great vacation 🙂

Gorgeous location, very scenic. We didn’t stay here but had lunch twice at this Homestay. They served fantastic food, very tasty and I am very grateful that they arranged it without much prior notice. Saporken Village is so scenic, it is definitely worth a visit.

Stayed there 3 nights in October 2013 , beautiful location , extremely friendly family and excellent sea food , heavenly .( neighbor Ben can take you to see the Paradise birds “cendrawassi”).
