Details

Warfanin Homestay occupies a sheltered cove near the entrance to the Dore Dor lagoons in eastern Gam.

Warfanin (“water”+”reflection”) refers to the mirror-like reflections on water that the location’s calm conditions create.

Warfanin’s private beach bungalows sleep two on a mattress on the floor. A mosquito net, sheets and pillows, and bath towels are provided. The bungalows are equipped with light switches and power outlets, and electric fans are provided.

Meals are served in Warfanin’s beachside dining room. As at all homestays, free drinking water and tea and coffee making supplies are provided.

All guests share a two room bathroom building. One room has dip mandi (tub and ladle) bathing. The other houses a western toilet and extra water tub.

Electricity for lighting and charging devices is supplied by generator and is available from sunset to around midnight. If guests are willing to pay for the extra fuel, then electricity can be provided on demand.

Warfanin receives a weak and variable 4G signal, so guests should expect to be mostly offline while at the homestay.

Yenbeser and Friwen villages are about 10 minutes away by boat. Only basic supplies are available at village shops, so be sure to bring your essential supplies with you.

Please do take any inorganic trash away with you when you leave: There is no safe means of inorganic waste disposal in Raja Ampat. (See our Don’t rubbish Raja Ampat article for more about this.)

Only a little English is spoken at Warfanin Homestay. Bringing a translation app or phrasebook is recommended.

Transport / Getting there

Transport between Warfanin Homestay and Waisai costs IDR 600,000 each way.

The longboat used can carry up to 4 passengers, and the total trip price is shared by passengers.

Kabui Bay, Friwen and Friwen Wall, Batu Lima and the long stretch of Yendebabo beach (with 2 dive centers) are all close by.

The winding mangrove filled waterways and dense jungles of the Dore Dor are a birdwatchers paradise, alive with hornbills, sea eagles, eclectus parrots, kingfishers, and herons.

Snorkelling over seagrass and reef is easy from Warfanin's beach. Dugongs and walking sharks can sometimes be seen in the bay at front of the homestay.

The jungle behind Warfanin is home to kuskus, squirrel-like tree rats, black king cockatoos and bush fowl that build huge nest mounds in the forest.
