Activities

Diving with Warahnus Dive Homestay

Sunday Diving: No diving on Sundays

An on site dive center provides diving at all popular Dampier Strait sites. PADI dive courses are also offered.

PLEASE NOTE: Guests who book accommodation at Warahnus on Stay Raja Ampat do not usually need to book diving in advance. However, at peak times, boat availability means that not every Warahnus guest can be guaranteed three dives a day. At peak times, dives will be shared as fairly as possible among guests.

If you want to confirm diving (or lesson) availability before booking accommodation at Warahnus, then please contact the Homestay Information Center staff for assistance.

See Warahnus' 2026 pricelist for details, prices, and Information Center contacts.

Snorkelling with Warahnus Dive Homestay

There's great snorkelling over the Warahnus house reef and the reefs between Kri's west end and the small Ransiwor Island. See Warahnus' 2026 pricelist for some popular options.

Other activities

Long hikes are available from Warahnus homestay. At low tide you can walk the entire north shore of Kri, or you can cross the sandbanks to neighbouring Ransiwor and Mansuar to visit Yenbuba village.

From Yenbuba a path heads west along the north coast of Mansuar to Yenbekwan village and then crosses the island past a lake to the south coast village of Sauwandarek. There's excellent snorkelling all along the route. If you're feeling energetic, you could make a day of it by leaving on a morning with a low tide and organising an afternoon pickup from Sauwandarek.

There are also shorter (and steeper!) local paths that lead through Kri's jungle to the islands' heights. Great panoramic views and spectacular sunsets are the norm, but be sure to take a light with you if going to watch the sunset as full dark comes on very quickly. If you want to see Red Birds of Paradise, head over to Sawinggrai on Gam to catch their dawn and dusk displays.

  • I have just spent 14 days in this paradisiacal place.

Special praise goes to the consistently friendly and helpful staff. The homestay was a new experience for me, and I am full of praise. My expectations were exceeded many times over. The accommodation is simple and functional. Everything was clean and in good condition.

As a diver, I was especially curious about what was on offer here. And I have to say, even a top hotel resort could not surpass this. As divers, in addition to the very beautiful house reef, we were able to choose from many excellent dive spots and decide the schedule ourselves. Even if only one or two divers wanted to go out, the boat would take them. The experienced and motivated dive guides Julio and Manuel did an excellent job. In over 25 years as a diver, I have never experienced better service. All the dive equipment was perfectly prepared every day, mounted on the tanks, and brought onto the boat. Even between dives, while we were resting with coffee, tea, and biscuits, the staff changed the tanks.

Promises were always kept, and with one small exception, everything was as punctual as a Swiss watch.

The local food was simple but delicious and plentiful. Once, when a group with ravenous hunger ate everything before I got to the dining area, they prepared a special nasi goreng for me for breakfast.

Yes, if you look long enough, you are bound to find the proverbial fly in the ointment. During my stay, it was the failure of one of the two power generators, which led to reduced availability of electricity and internet. After two days without power, the situation was brought under control so that electricity was available daily again, even if somewhat more limited than usual. The people worked hard to make that possible. So, absolutely acceptable.

Warahnus Dive – I would happily return anytime!

  • I enjoyed my stay at Warahnus. There was a mix up with the rooms booked but Adit, the manager, worked hard to resolve the issue. The food was really good and the homestay relaxing and quiet. Did the day trip to Piaynemo with 2 snorkelling stops on the way. Well worthwhile.

  • Spent a lovely 6 nights at Warahnus, dive and homestay staff were lovely. Cleanest of all the 6 homestays I visited in Raja Ampat. House reef is lovely for snorkeling.

  • I spent a week at Warahnus Homestay and it was just incredible. The island and specially the beach were this homestay is located is idyllic, the coral in front of the white beach is just amazing and they also have a dive center, although I did not dive. The choice of food is limited for obvious reasons, but the cook is great and she manages to offer varied, consistent and delicious meals every day. On the other hand, all the team managing this homestay is really nice and welcoming, and they keep this place ultra clean.

  • Rooms and location was great, lovely staff and was a enjoyable stay. The main frustration for me and why myself and another couple ended up leaving 1 day early was due to the fact we had to nag for them to take us diving. I repeatedly explained was happy to pay the entire ammount for the boat in order to go on a dive but we could never really get them to full commit to it and was always told very last minute if it was going ahead or not. The main reason i went here was to dive so it created alot of uncertainty and unnecessary stress. They never explained why this was the case it just seemed they weren’t to bothered or really wanted to take us.

  • We came to Warahnus Homesaty escaping from Erens Guesthouse for just two nights and were very pleased. It’s a great place, nice bungalows, great food and very friendly and engaged staff. Best homestay we have been in Raja Ampat.

  • We had a great stay at Warahnus Homestay. First and foremost, the snorkeling right off the beach in front of our hut was amazing. It was so good we didn’t even feel the need to visit other sites by boat. The coral reef was beautiful and there were tons of colorful fish. Our hut was simple with a comfortable bed surrounded by netting to keep the bugs away, but we didn’t experience many bugs. We also had a fan directed at the bed. The electricity ran between 5pm and 7am and the room was comfortable all night. I even used the blanket to keep from getting cold. The bungalow had a small balcony with two plastic chairs where we hung our clothes to dry and across the wooden walkway, we had a private deck with two wood chaise lounges and a small table. The grounds are nicely landscaped and every morning they are raked clean of leaves. All the bungalows and decks are shaded under a canopy of trees with a beautiful view of the water. It was a lovely place to spend time. The bathroom has a floor of small rocks so you definitely need sandals in order to use it. Also, the western toilet sat very low to the ground. There was a small table in the room but there were not any shelves to put clothes on and there were only a few hangers, so storage of any sort was limited. A few more hangers would have been nice. We hung our towels on nails. The food was good, but we didn’t always know what we were eating. A brief description of each dish would have been nice, but we enjoyed everything. We had the homestay give us a ride to the ferry which took about a half hour. Everything ran smoothly and our stay was truely enjoyable.

    • Hello Collen, thankyou so much for your review. We are really happy you enjoy stay while with us, and thankyou also for your advice. I hope we can do it better in the future.

  • I stayed at this homestay for six nights, two in a garden bungalow and four in one right by the sea. The seafront bungalows are definitely the best! The rooms are spacious, with a large comfortable bed and mosquito net (bring repellent anyway). The private bathroom has a stone-and-sand floor, and each bungalow has a small veranda plus an outdoor area with sunbeds under the trees and a table on the beach, very relaxing.

Meals could be improved with a bit more variety — more fruit and a few extra options for lunch and dinner would make a big difference. A toaster at breakfast would also be a nice addition.

Diving was great — thanks to Christian and Giulio for their professionalism. A special mention to Tian, the driver recommended by Waranhus in Sorong, who helped me catch the ferry just in time, literally flying!

    • Hello Bruno! Thankyou so much for your review.
Your advice will help us to grow better.

  • This homestay is one of the best in Raja Ampat. The staff are very attentive and always willing to help. The facilities are perfectly integrated into the island’s vegetation, creating an atmosphere of peace and tranquility. The location is unbeatable, situated near the village of Palau Mansuar, which can be reached by swimming over coral teeming with tropical fish and turtles. It has a dive center and offers the possibility of various activities. Without a doubt, it’s a place where disconnecting is guaranteed. Highly recommended — 200%!

  • I came to Kri after previously being on two other islands. The facilities here i.e. en-suite, own bathroom, flushable toilet felt like luxury compared to previous home stays.

The reef at the home stay is great and I saw numerous black tip sharks and turtles here.

A watch out that i had rat(s) nibble through the side of my backpack to eat a food wrapped (that had nothing within it), so be cautious if you do have any food or sweet things with you.

    Food was fine.

    • Hello Josh! Thankyou for your review, it help us grow up. For the rat is little bit problem but now we have a box in every room. so, if you bring any food you can put in the box.

If there’s something that can make your stay more comfortable, just tell us.

I hope you enjoy your stay and want to comeback again.

  • I had a great stay at Warahnus Dive Homestay over 8 nights in early April. The bungalow was clean, large and comfortable with a separate bathroom, fan, small deck and a beachside platform with a lounge chair in the shade for relaxing. Internet was also accessible when the power was on overnight. The house reef was of good quality, protected and with very little current. The food was simple but plentiful, and I experienced a reasonable variety of dishes over the time I was there. Towels and sheets were changed over during my stay without having to ask and all staff were friendly and helpful. The staff looked after the gardens and kept the paths swept and tidy. The only disappointing moment during my stay was when the final bill was tallied. The cost of boat trips ended up being significantly higher than the price I was quoted prior to each trip during the week. I was told that the prices had gone up but I had been quoted the old price when arranging trips. The new prices were not listed at the property nor on the web site so it was disappointing to be told about the higher prices on the last day after having such a lovely experience at the homestay.

    • Hi Helen, thank you for your review. We apologize for any misunderstanding. Perhaps our staff forgot to inform you in advance of the price change at our homestay. However, the prices at StayRajaAmpat have now been updated, and we always inform guests of the prices before they book their trip.
Your feedback means a lot to us. We hope you enjoy your stay and that you might return someday.

  • Rats in the rooms.
sink faucet does not work, not very convenient.
Food : lack of choice, always cold.
But nice longue chair in front of the beach.
    Long sand beach for walking.
Expensive in comparaison with homestay in other places

    • Hi Kary, we apologize for the inconvenience, and thank you for your review and feedback. Rats were indeed a problem, but we now have a solution. We now always check all room facilities before guests check in. For the food, now we improve, we serve rice, fish or meat and vegetables as well as some fruit, and we guarantee that the portions are not lacking, and served according to the informed time so that the food remains warm.

I hope you enjoy your stay and perhaps come back again someday.

  • Amazing homestay. Beautiful setting, as on many of the islands, but the snorkeling just off the jetty was perhaps the best of all the islands I visited. People are just lovely too. And they have wifi, which is rare.

    • Hi Kim, thank you for your review. We hope you enjoyed your stay with us.

We also now have free Starlink Wi-Fi for all our guests.

We’d love to welcome you back someday.

  • My girlfriend and I spent our first 4 nights in Raja Ampat at Warahnus Homestay.
We appreciated the location (with a great house reef at the jetty and a beautiful beach at low tide), the bungalow that was quite big and with its private bathroom, the little terrace in the shade with loungers in front of the bungalow.
The food was delicious but sometimes came in too small quantities. We could ask the kitchen for a little bit more quantities though.
We didn’t dive with them but we did several snorkeling trips that were stunning, and we shared them with guests from another nearby accommodation, which made them a bit cheaper. Joshua was a great guide and took to heart his mission to make us see mantas!
Overall we were happy with our stay.

    • Hello Tim, thank you for your review. It helps us grow. We’ve improved our portion sizes, and if you come back, we guarantee it will be more than enough.

We hope to see you again soon 🙂

  • THIS IS NOT A DIVE CENTER. I asked Bermon (part owner) on 29/1/25 to reserve a spot on a dive boat. He replied “we have available for the dive”. When I got there on 3/2/25 (for 5 nights) the dive shop was closed. Bermon was deceptive, which I don’t appreciate.

So I walked down the beach to Turtle Homestay where I was able to make some dives as space allowed. The guests at Turtle Homestay recommended the place, and my diving experience was good.

Bermon and his brother are absent owners. No one is in charge, and it shows. We have to ask two days to fill up the water tank for showering.

    I won’t stay here again. I give it a 2 star.

    • Hi John, thank you for your review. It will help us improve. We apologize for any inconvenience you experienced during your stay.

Our dive center is currently operating at its best, and I assure you that it is ready to serve diving/snorkeling guests at any time.

We also have an in-house manager ready to assist you and arrange your trip anytime.

We hope this experience does not disappoint you, and maybe you want to stay with us again in the future. We will provide you with a complimentary gift for this inconvenience.

  • We stayed for one week and had a great time at Warahnus Homestay. It was super calm and quiet and very green with enough shade to escape the sun. The staff was very helpful and kind. The food was very simple (but really yummy) so take some snacks if needed.

The housereef is really beautiful and has a lot of life to offer. All dive sites we went were stunning and I recommend a trip to Piaynemo! The scuba diving went well although the equipment would really need to be updated!!
Only thing, be aware of the prices and make sure to take enough cash in case the internet connection for card payment machine doesn’t work.

Unfortunately, there has been an increased amount of trash in the water and on the beach depending on the tides and currents (luckily not underwater). However the Warahnus staff did their best to keep their beach clean daily.

We really enjoyed our remote getaway! 🙂

    • Hi Kerstin, thank you for your review. It will help us grow up. We’ve improved the quality of our food, and I believe the portions will be more than enough.

Our dive center has been renovated, and we have more than enough equipment in good condition for our guests to use.

We hope to see you again soon.

  • Nice homestay but “taken over” by a big group of Lithuanians who did not leave space for other guests to eat and ate all the food in 10 minutes so nothing left for other guests. Very loud and intimidalibg, setting on other people’s balcony and so drunk that they walked into our bungalow instead of their own. And the people working at the homestay let this happen.

  • A fantastic homestay in an absolutely stunning location! Truly a paradise. The bungalows are simple but feature comfortable beds and basic private bathrooms.
Stunning views, incredible coral reefs, and vibrant marine life!
The staff is incredibly kind and always ready to provide you with the best experiences.
A perfect place to relax, immerse yourself in nature, go snorkeling or diving, and explore the surrounding islands.

    • Hello Elisa, thankyou for review.
We hope you enjoy your stay and want to comeback again someday.

  • We had a brilliant stay at Warahnus Homestay over 7 nights. Absolutely amazing location a true paradise. The food was excellent and very generous. The diving was outstanding we did 18 dives over the week at about $40 Australian each which is very reasonable. Rian was a firsts class guide very safe and incredibly knowledgeable on the local conditions. The boat captain Dugong was also great a really funny bloke too. We really couldn’t have asked for anything better over the week. Thanks so much I hope we will see you again.

  • I had a very pleasant stay here! It was a comfortable room and it was nice to have a private bathroom. The family were very nice and the food was delicious!
Only i had some rats in my room so that was not very nice. But the whole island have rats so. Just don’t keep food in your room.
The beach and the coral were amazing at this site of the island! You can have a good snorkel! And they organize a lot of trips to snorkel and to dive. So I enjoyed my time in Warahnus dive homestay 🙂

  • Unfortunately there is no organizer on site. The houses are already a bit run down and the diving equipment urgently needs to be overhauled for safety reasons. No punctuality with diving. Instead of setting off at around 8 a.m., the organization only begins. The journey to the first dive is often well after 9:00 a.m. The showers in my bungalow probably haven’t been cleaned in weeks. The water in the shower often doesn’t flow. This means that your toilet cannot be flushed a second time. Big holes in the mosquito net. The employees who are responsible for diving try hard to do everything and are very nice. There is no manager on site who could coordinate everything.

  • My stay at Warahnus was fantastic ! I snorkeled the day I arrived and the day before I left and dove 3 days. Rian is an excellent dive guide. I dove Cape Kri, the house reef, Max’s Point, Sawandarek Jetty, Yenbuba, Max’s Point, and a wall. The first dive, there were 5 divers with 2 guides, the other two days were just me and another guest.

The accommodations are comfortable – a good sized individual “house” for lack of a better word. I had an ensuite bathroom with flush toilet and overhead shower.

The electricity was turned on from around 6PM to around 5AM – which was perfect. It got dark around 6 – it allowed me enough time to recharge my UW camera equipment and cell phone.

I was concerned about it being too hot/humid to sleep but with the fan, had no issues and even needed the light blanket the homestay provided a couple of nights because I got cold. A mosquito net is provided over the bed, I really didn’t experience a huge problem with them but it’s nice to have the net just in case.

Another thing I was concerned about was no hot water, however that was not an issue either. It’s warm during the day and the water temp is warm. If you were to do a night dive then take a shower, you might be chilly.

Warahnus provides 3 meals a day with your stay and drinking water (both hot and cold) as well as tea and Indonesia style coffee. The meals were good portions and included rice, veggies and fruits with lunch and dinner. For a nominal fee, you could purchase cold sodas and beers. Other people from the neighboring homestays came to our homestay to buy some.

I’m not sure how soon I can return but I do plan to come back, hopefully with some friends to explore more.

Thank you Bermon, Rian, Poly, Hiru and the rest of the team.

I have photos to share, I don’t see how I can upload them here but here is a link to some underwater photos I took while diving and snorkeling at Warahnus.

  • Disappointing services. Bermon showed up once on our second day during our two weeks stay promising improving dive services that did not materised. Limited effective communication the rest of the time. Some divers do managed to successfully arrange to dive their chosen sites.

  • I would highly recommend Warahnus! Great place, great people, beautiful beach/reef. All in all good!

  • I had a great week at Warahnus, really enjoyed it. Food was always good and cold beer available for a moderate price. The bungalow provides plenty of space, with a sundeck just a few steps below directly at the beach front. The entire path from the boat to the hut is covered with wooden planks, no mud walk after rain. Diving with Rian and team was great as well, had 2 dives every morning and was no more than 2 divers per guide.

  • My boyfriend and me spent 6 nights at Warahnus Homestay in December. We so loved our little sundeck in front of the bungalow. Snorkeling right in front is outstanding. The bungalows are clean, the stuff ist very friendly and very helpful in all cases, even at nighttime, especially Mun <3 the food is amazing and always on time. The divecenter has a clean and good looking compressor, we always had "good/ clean" air. Electricity was working every night.

The bungalows are spacious, with ensuite bathroom and great sundecks.
The people working there do a great job and the food was good.

Especially the dive guides took good care of us, we have seen so many great dive sites there. Maximum 5 divers per boat is extremely unusual. Special thanks to our guides Rian, Chris and Daniel. It has been a pleasure diving with you.
Good housereef with sharks, turtles, napoleon….

Bermon the owner was very helpful and always answered asap.
We will come back next year for sure.

Hammock and a mirror would be perfect next time.. 🙂

  • I would stay here again.
Pretty new bungalows with ensuite bathroom, terrace and sundeck. Great snorkeling at the house reef. The food was good and sufficient.
Electricity was working every night, so we could use the fan and charge our phones.
If you need internet, get a SIM card before arriving on the islands.

  • Really good new bungalows in a nice an shady location with inside bathroom. In front of each bungalow new sundecks are provided above the beach. Food was always good and enough. Good reef in a wide bay up to Jenbuba jetty on neighbour island Mansuar.

  • we loved our stay. The coral reef is the best we experienced in the 3 homestays we have stayed. You jump from jetty and have everything there!
Cabin was ok, food perfect. You have fan. Buy a simcard because internet doesn not work properly. You are in an isolated area.
I would like to make some suggestions:
It has been very difficult to organised activities. A night talk about the diving points, the plans for visiting diferent spots in Raja should be explained every night so that you can get the most during your stay.
The place need a deep clean between guests. We know we are visiting a basic accomodation in a remote island, but we expect it to be clean, inside, toilets, desinfection, no rubbish in the area and in the beach. Raja Ampat is paradise but if leaving bottles in the beach is normal it will turn to be one more spot in the world…it will lost its magic.
Hope you can take it into account.
All in all, we did enjoy our stay!

  • We stayed 3 nights at end of October.
Best bed in three week in Raja.
Room was great ensuite , fan.
Best thing is house reef. It goes all the way to yenbuba jetty. Amazing see life and hard corals. I saw turtles, black tip sharks ,amazing amount of fish and a dugong on one occasion.
    Berman is extremely helpful.
    Definitely recommend.

  • We enjoyed our stay very much. Thanks to Bernon and his team! Bungalows with ensuite bathroom. They are constantly upgrading as well (terraces for the bungalows as well as other buildings in construction).

Food was delicious, typically rice with a variety of vegetables and chicken or fish. Also had eggs, Tempe and Tofu.

Diving was awesome! Always felt very safe with Chris our dive master. Lot’s of cool dive spots close by (or for snorkling). Also saw turtles, reef sharks and more in the house reef 🙂 would definitively book again!

    • Our stay in Raja Ampat was incredible, and warahnus is one of the reason why.

We had an amazing experience, we were so lucky to meet Amazing people during our stay, including Bermon the owner.

The dive center is small, but they ‘re growing step by step, and new equipments are on the next list.
They will take you wherever you want, in safety, and prices are fair.

Food is amazing too, best one of our stay.

Thanks again Bermon for your kindness, thanks Chris and Miguel for our dives.

I will definitely be back again someday 🤗 i already miss you

  • Good homestay, but the wifi isn’t connected to the internet so not really useful…
Bungalows are good, bed is comfortable but the floor of the bathroom, made of stones, not really!
Great snorkeling in front of the homestay and wonderful spots nearby

  • The location is great and the reef is wonderful. The cottages are quite simple, but correct. However, the staff do not take much care of the cleanness of the homestay and either of the cleanness of the beach and the surrounding area. There were plastic and canes in many places. The waste that is generated in the homestay is not properly disposed. In addition, the sea sadly brings plastics and waste and the staff should try to get the beach clean, at least their part, but they do not. Raja Ampat is a unique natural place, but if the development here is not done respectfully with the environment the island will be spoiled in a few years.

  • Stayed for 5 nights in September. Great accomodation with fresh water shower (only cold water but not a problem). Ample provision of healthy local food (usually rice, vegetables and fish or chicken). Wooden bench seating in the bungalow a bit uncomfortable and a hammock would have been nice. The stones on the bathroom floor look good but are a bit hard on the feet. They are improving the bungalows to have a deck area on the shoreline which will be lovely when finished. Plenty of shade on the bungalows so do not get too hot during the day.

Great dive operation with dive guides very helpful and accommodating. Can do 3 dives each day if you wish (2 in the morning and one in the afternoon). Some dive sites have a top roof around 10-15m and these would be better suited to a Nitrox dive but Nitrox is not available. First class diving with healthy reefs as expected for Raja Ampat. New moon when I was there so currents pretty small.

  • My stay in Warahnus was in early August, and it was marvellous. Bermon, the owner is very insightful, and friendly, and has great aspirations to grow his business into a more sustainable business. We talked a lot about social and environmental impact of homestay business and how the local people can benefit from tourism but still protecting their environment and culture.

Initially, there was a missbooking, he sent me an email, but I didn’t check my mail because I was already in Papua for work. But he still picked me up at the port and arranged my stay at his family’s homestay, which was on par with his homestay’s standard. He took really good care of me.

We went to Piaynemo, it was just our boat. Me and my friend got to see the other look-out tower which was better than the famous ones. Bermon took us to great snorkeling sites, and we managed to see a lot!

He was always on time and respectful. He’s a good boat driver.

The food in Warahnus is great. The place is clean and I didn’t hear any rats or other animals in the room. Can hear insects though, which was great. Internet connection is patchy, but you can get a good connection on the jetty while looking at stars at night.

  • We stayed 6 nights at Warahnus homestay. Great location and amazing staff. Food is excellent and portions are big!! Great house reef and awesome trips out to other spots. Accommodation is pretty basic so don’t expect luxury. Also be sure not to have food in your hut as the jungle animals are always looking for a snack! We loved staying here and will be back!

  • Warahnus homestay is in a beautiful environment. The place is very quiet and relaxing but also close to the more lively Yenbuba. The meals were good and of good amount. Also the diving was really good and the dive guide satisfied all our requests.

  • I had an amazing time at Warahnus. Great food with variety, an incredible reef, bungalows which have everything you need. I felt safe as a solo female traveller and wouldn’t hesitate to go back. Fun memories of hanging out on the jetty watching the stars with a beer, or hearing the locals sing Papuan songs!

Gerne wieder!

  • We spent 4 nights in Warahnus. The location is perfect on the remote northern side. More calm than on the south side and far enough away from the neighboring homestay. More shade and not so hot during the day. The biggest plus is the pier into the sea. You can sunbathe on it, watch the stars and jump directly into the deeper sea from it during low tide. Snorkeling is just perfect with excellent access to the water. Lots of big and small fish, small sharks and turtles. Corals are well-preserved and healthy more right from pier to village. For us, it was a better place to snorkel than the renowned Cape Kry with broken dead corals. Maybe we were just unlucky at the place of dropping. Food is good but sometimes a small quantity problem. How to divide 4 pieces of fish for 6 people? Very often there is a chicken, surprisingly in the middle of the ocean. They are mosquitoes, necessarily bring the repellent with you. The cottage is good but needs to soon repair the roof against the rain. There are beds and mattresses. Mattresses and pillows are a little bit musty, maybe it would be good to replace and rebuild. Sanitary facilities are rather average, toilet for staff at the back is better quality and cleanliness. No rats around. They have cats and a very friendly dog, will go everywhere with you and will sleep on your balcony. The prices for the trips are good and fair and according to what it says on the Stayrajampat website. Communication with Bermon without a problem. He speaks excellent English. It is difficult to swim at low tide, there is no beach. But he’s not anywhere on KRI. At low tide, take a trip through the sand bank to a village on the neighboring island. And don’t forget the trip to the sandy island near Cape Kry (at low tide) and the view point above the island before evening. Amazing and fantastic views at sunset behind Piaynemo and views of the whole island. Thanks for everything, we will definitely go back again.

  • We stayed 6 nights in February with Bermon and his family and enjoyed every second.
We were super lucky with the other guests, a great bunch of people made our stay even more perfect

    PROs:
    – We stayed in a private bungalow: spacious, clean, good mosquito net, nice deck.
    – food: good but repetitive, for breakfast just fried bananas every day
    – house reef: perfect snorkelling!!! We’ve seen black tips, turtles, bumpheads and heaps more
    – jetty: sunshine all day long

    CONs:
    – if Bermon is Not around, no communication is possible so no trip planing or advice
    – we had no hammock at our bungalow

We really enjoyed our stay and would always go back to Warahnus!!!

    Best wishes,
    Jessica and Birte

We visited this beautiful place for the second time. Bermon became our family friend. He’s a great friend. Island Kri and homestay Warahnus is a paradise on earth. Coral reefs incredibly beautiful. It’s a place of total peace. Great food, wonderful family. We had no problem. Bermon spent time with us on trips. He took us to places where there were wonderful mantas and dolphins. We have never seen anything more beautiful and ever. We must go back. Bermon thank you for everything, you are a great person, thank the whole family for the best service. We look forward to seeing you in 2020.

  • A cheaper alternative to the other homestays on Kri…nobody was there when I arrived and the owner was not there – I guess he lives in Waisai…It was hard to communicate with the stuff in english, anyway they were friendly (for that the one star). There was only little food, the huts smell and are in bad conditions…Luckily no rain in the night!!! Would not recommend it…

  • I agree with Dedra that communication was difficult without Bermon, who even in his absence , was very concerned that the guests are OK. Several times I requested the family to use their cell phones to call him, so I could communicate with them. The location is fantastic and the reef in front is spectacular, also the pier is a scenic spot to read or just hang out. The staple of the meals are rice and noodles, with various ways to cook fish….and sometimes chicken was served.

  • Although our communication was made with Bermon prior to arriving here at Warahnus, he wasn’t at the homestay as he is attending school. We found this a problem communicating with the locals at Warahnus. However their homestay shows off the best house reef on Kri. Spectacular complex corals and huge amount of sea life. We enjoyed a swim across to Yenbuba jetty and a jungle walk across the island to the other homestays. The local animals (cats and dogs) are a treat. I highly recommend this place for diving! Snorkeling and swimming across the bay is a delight over all the corals. Thanks to all for making our stay interesting enough to have good memories. Their pier is the best place to hang out!

  • We stayed at Warahnus for one week in mid April 2019 and really loved it.
The bungalows are spacious and clean with real beds, good mosquito nets and a hammock with an amazing view over the ocean. We sometimes saw small blacktip reef sharks swim by but never any rats anywhere like people said in other comments. Maybe the two cats and strictly no food in the bungalow helped. They provide a storage box in the dining area.

We also enjoyed the food, good variety: fish, eggs, chicken, always greens and different fruits.

And the snorkeling, just mind blowing: healthy and diverse corals all around, sharks, turtles, Napoleon fish, schools of fussiliers and all the usual suspects. One day at high tide we snorkeld all the way to Yenbuba Jetty and took a boat back. That was a real highlight, strongly recommend it. Very convenient access for snorkeling from Warahnus jetty.
We went on some snorkeling trips with Jonas, can recommend Sawandarek jetty with big schools of batfish, trevallies, sweetlips and many others. And obviously Cape Kri from where we drift snorkeled half way down to Warahnus.

Thanks to Jonas and his family for taking good care of us.
We already want to come back,

    Tina and Esther

  • Really nice location in a beautiful bay with great snorkeling especially when you turn right to the Yenuba jetty.
They have 4 single and 2 newer double bungalows now.
The 2 mandi huts really need renovation.
The family members were always friendly, the food was ok.
The rats problem of Kri is obvious and at Waranhus HS they try to improve it by holding cats.
Do the boat trip to Cape Kri!

  • We spent 10 nights at this homestay between Christmas 2018 and the first days of 2019.

The most positive aspect of this homestay is its locagtion. The reefs in front of the homestay all along the beach and toward the jetty is the best snorkeling spot that we’ve visited during our 15 days in Raja Ampat. Much better than different activities and even scuba diving experiences. There are so many fishes, of all kinds, and turtles, ans corals, and sharks, and dugong. Everyday was a beautiful experience snorkeling over there. Nearby the jetty you will find bigger fishes and, if you are lucky and the boats are not running crazily around, the dugong!

Bermon is not very talkative and also not the rest of the family. They actually don’t live there, but in the village, so it means they go there for work. I think it also explain the huge quantity of rats. While in other homestays where the family live in the place they had rats traps or cats, at Wharahnus rats could run freely.

The bungalow was very nice, in front of the beach with a small terrasse. The rats were a really big problem, since we couldn’t sleep not even one night without being waken up by them. And we didn’t even have food in our bags!
Toilettes were not very clean. Use the family’s one, at the end of the homestay. It’s better kept.

Food was okay. They didn’t makle any effort to make something fresh. somedays we were eating just egges, ruce and vegetable. Quantity was not enough for everyone when the homestay was fully-booked. It was not a very good experience.
By the 8th night we decided to go to a neighbour homestay and eat there. It was just great to eat fresh fish, homemade sauce, vegetables dumps, and to easily have cold beer!

We expected to make a closer relation with the family, since we were there for 10 nights. But not at all. Despite the fact you asked fot not being awake at 7AM, the cousin kept calling us every morning, not friendly at all! We were after all in vacations and breakfast was not that worth it!

For both Christmas and New Years eve, the entire family just disappeared before 7PM to go to the village. We had to eat earlier and we were left alone with the other guests. Not even a proposition to come to the village with them, nothing. We were isolated there. Fortunately we found a boat passing and they gave us a ride during New Years’Eve.

The sea was beautiful, however on the 5th day a trash tide brought plenty of plastic and trash to the beach. It stayed there for 3-4 days and no one of the homestay cleaned the trash in front of their property. Incredible! All the other homestays at the beach did it! Anyway, that’s just a detail…

The activities were very nice. The older guy knows very well the tides and always find Mantas and other fishes. He was the best! Just don’t expect to go at the scheduled time There is no time notion over there. You will leave when they can and want. Just be patient!

Tips: try to organise all your scuba dives in advance, and always have a plan B. The clubs are not trustable at all!!
Walk all the way up to the highest point of view. The panoramic view is amazing! Also walk to the other side of the island and cross the sand bunch during the low tide until the village. Very nice!

    • Hello .. apologize for our unsatisfactory service to you but perhaps I sould also explain that we are not going to the village for work. We went to the countryside only to the celebrate christmas with family until new years and then for rats we also recognize that awas a lot it’s heard to deal with them because if we kill the rats in the boat in the middle of the ocean we can kill everyone but the problem it’s big island. So when we kill orthers.. the orther are still there and keep coming. Then now we have also overcome them by raising a cat..

      Thank you

      Thank you

  • When you arrive at the Waisai jetty on the ferry do an anticlockwise loop to the tourist info site where you get your National Park entrance pass (IDR 1,000,000). Then look for Berwon who you may have corresponded with. He won’t come to you. He lives an Waisai and seems to take credit card payment at the wharf and maybe direct operations. Mute. Inscrutable.

Jonas is the go to person at the homestay. The family have a boat which we used for 2 days. One of the engines stopped about 30 times. We were told this was because it was 15 years old. Maybe time to upgrade.

Someone came in the water when we were snorkelling at various sites and this was helpful.

House reef very good. Go in from jetty to protect the reef.

    Food good.

Rats (look more like mice) are legendary. As soon as we arrived the residents told stories of eaten go pros, packs etc. They are a plague, running through the dining area and bungalows. There is a plastic container to place food. Hanging up stuff is not always effective. I saw the rats jump from the walls onto a hanging bag. Some people moved to the many adjacent homestays because of them.

    Mini Snorkelling Trip:

Based on this website we did a 4 night expedition. We did two days at Waranus homestay (there are multiple adjoining homestays as alternates) where we did Sauwandarek Village, Yenbuba Jetty, Waranus house reef and Cape Kri (we were here at high tide so the currents were not strong).

On the way to Beser Bay we did Friwen wall, Aborek and added Manta point which was not on the website above. Manta was a highlight, swimming metres away from Mantas. We also did Beser Bay.

The inlet where the Beser Bay homestay is based is a nursery and around the night high tide the fauna is mind blowing. Every night there were dozens of baby sharks and stingrays right under your sleeping quarters. Whatsmore, walking sharks were everywhere, especially on the waters edge between the huts. Have a spotlight handy.

We saw the walking sharks hiding during the day under rocks under the large rock opposite the bungalows (about 50m away).

While snorkelling in front of the Beser Bay huts during the day there were many sea snakes. Garfish were hunting and fishing eagles? were taking fish as we reclined on our verandas.

The house reef is healthy with abundant clown fish. Go left out of the inlet and keep 50 to 100m offshore (directly in front of the mangroves which go all the way to the local village).

The whole trip worked well and all worth a visit.

  • Stayed for 6 nights in beginning of January.Everthing was as expected as this was second time to Kri .I opted for S side this time as it’s quieter.Warahnus is a good Homestay .Reef was good sharks and turtles almost every time I was in the water. It’s a long snorkel to the jetty on Mansur but doable.Just time the tides. You can walk back in low tide . Staff was friendly and place was clean.Food was varied enough that it wasn’t boring and there was enough for everyone.I would definitely go back and would recommend it

  • We stayed a week, the location is beautiful and this side of Kri is more quite with far less homestays than the north side where they are literally on-top of each other. These guys also sell tall boys of Bintang although they won’t be cold till almost 8pm as the electricity doesn’t come on till 6.

The reef in front is great for snorkelling and the jetty a nice spot for morning yoga or meditation. The family is very chill and Bermon, the boss is nice guy who speaks and understands English quite well although incredibly shy. No one else has much of a grasp on English however.

Despite the truth that I did love this place after a week I had a sore back from sleeping on a flimsy foam mattress so your back is pretty much on wood. As night sets in it would get very still, sticky and hot. There are no fans here. It was quite tolerable but as the night time temperatures dropped I found myself and the mattress damp and cold which made my back even more sore in the morning. But the mosquito netting is in great shape so kept everything buzzing and crawling out. Also the room was bright and airy with views straight out over the beach through big leafy trees which also offers a cool filter from the direct sun, in the double bungalows at least.

The food is what I had most issues with. Now before you read further I must say that I am quite particular about food, I have a fast metabolism and need sustenance throughout the day. I don’t do well on sugar and carbs but thats all you get for breakfast. Thats at 7ish am and lunch, where one finally gets some protein, is not served ‘till noonish. I was really struggling. They initially served either chicken or fish, rotated between lunch and dinner, served around 7pm, 7 hours later, along with tofu or tempe, vegetables, rice and fruit. However it started to get a bit sketchy, perhaps because Berman left for a few days and without supervision they didnt care so much. This was reflected in the general upkeep/tidiness of the place when he left. Over those few days the meals sucked. At one point we only got boiled eggs and noodles for lunch, or was it dinner, no veg or rice, no fruit. I think dinner was just tofu which I couldn’t eat the way they prepare it, any day, maybe some eggs and rice. They seemed to cook in 2 large ‘woks’ over fire so everything is either sautéed, boiled or fried. On our second to last night a tuna was caught. What a great opportunity to make a delicious meal but they boiled it dry and it was worse than canned tuna. In conversations with other guests this place was one of the best for food that they had experienced in the Raja Ampat region so there you go. I must also say that those first days had some quite nice chicken and fish dishes, not always boiled dry, with some ok sauces, so they can do it.

Over all I would recommend this place just know what your in for and accept it as it is. If you need more frequent meals, and more nourishing starts to your day than sugar and carbs, bring a jar of peanut butter, veggie or marmite, some crackers, maybe a dozen eggs and you will be ok. Do not keep any of it in you bungalow, ask them to store for you.

This was a lovely spot that was basic, but well maintained and a great place to get away from it all if you want to pass your days swimming with fish, writing, reading, relaxing and letting go.

  • We were at this place in paradise. Stay was 13 days long. I thank my wonderful friend Bermon for his friendly approach. It was the most beautiful holiday. Great food from Merlin, beautiful coral reefs. Sharks, mantas, and the wonderful underwater world. Accommodation great, excellent food, just if I could, I would give 100 stars for Warahnus. Dear Bermon, thank you so much for all. You are our really best friend!!! I hope that next year see together again.

  • Hi there! We stayed in Warahnus 4 nights and we fell in love with the island. The homestay is simple but you have everything you need. All the food is homemade and delicious, rice, vegetables and fish or chicken. We were told that is much better than in other homestays. The snorkeling in front of the homestay is amazing, even better than other places we visit by boat. We saw all kind of fishes and coral, even turtles and sharks.
We made several excursions to snorkeling, diving and to Piaynemo, it was easy to arrange it with Bermon, the person in charge of Warahnus.
Don’t forget to bring sunscreen and mosquito repellent and snorkel equipment.
Thank you Bermon & family! Our experience was unforgettable and we will be back, for sure!

  • Hello. We stayed 1 week at Warahnus. We loved it. The island is beautiful and the homestay is located on a very peaceful and beautiful side of the island. The room was very nice and the bed was comfortable. The food was delicious and plentiful. There is phone service from the end of the jetty if needed. Everyone is very kind at the
homestay. If you need to organize a boat trip and share costs with other travelers it’s a good idea to walk down the beach to the other homestay to see if anyone is interested. The homestay is clean and provided the basic necessities needed for a stay in Raja Ampat. Don’t forget to bring your own snorkel equipment. You can also rent some from
the other homestay down the beach. We hope to come back, we love Kri Island. Thank you to our homestay for feeding us and hosting us and helping me carry my heavy overpacked suitcase to and from my room to the boat. I really appreciate it. I learned my lesson and I won’t pack so much next time. Wear lots of sunscreen on your butt if you’re gonna snorkel because it might get really burnt. Make sure that you don’t plan a boat trip or ride when it’s a full moon and really low tide. Makes for a bit of an adventure that you probably want to avoid. I love the dog at Warahnus, very sweet and likes being petted all the time. The neighbors also puppies FYI.

Thank you for a beautiful week.

  • I really enjoyed my stay at this homestay. The beach and snorkeling are great. You can also visit neighbor homestays in the island with white sand and turquoise water beaches (although best snorkeling is here). Food is in general quite good. Breakfast it’s OK (could be improved with some fruit, for example). The family hosts are shy but nice. Yakub is a nice guy, and once you get to know him a bit more, he will fool and joke with you. Just make sure to emphasize and be clear if you need to go back to Waigeo to catch the ferry boat, and leave with enough time, as punctuality is not his strongest skill. But also you can arrange boat tours with him if you get enough people. It is true that there are rats here, but they won’t jump on you to attack you or anything like that. They are after food, and they are more active during quiet hours at night, so you won’t see them all the time. I just saw one on the roof tinder during one dinner, and nobody got scared about it; they look more like a mouse. Anyway, If snorkeling and beach are a priority for you, then this homestay is a very good choice. I would come back for sure! Cheers.

  • We stayed 4 nights at this place. The house reef is huge and easily accessible via the jetty. We saw many many sharks and a large variety of fish. The corals are pretty healthy and diverse.
It was a good place to meet other people either from this or other homestays nearby.
The owner Jacob was very friendly, although there were some language barriers (basic knowledge of Indonesian is an advantage).
We had the bungalow in front of the kitchen which is not recommended because a lot of smoke is coming in from the open fire in the kitchen. We recommend to keep a house cat as we have seen some rats in the kitchen and the dining area 🙂
For the breakfast we have missed some fruits or local food because they mostly served doughnuts and cake. The others meals were simple but good.
There is credit card payment available and it worked!

  • This year’s was my second visit to Raja Ampat, and I decided to stay in Waranus where I spent 3 days a year ago. Initial plan this year was to stay 4 days in Waranus and then move to Kri northern beauch. Finally I decided to stay the full week, and here is why:
The reef drop-off in front of the homestay is fabulous for snorkelling with little equivalent in terms of coral variety and fish life : especially aroud 4p.m. encounters with black tip sharks occur at the average rate of one shark every 5 minutes. Turtles are also a sure bet. I also saw 2 small napoleons, one grouper, many trivallies, a group of 11 large bumphead parrotfish, countless triggerfishs, …
The new jetty is a real added value from last year : entry in the water is easy at any time during the day, and it’s a great place to lie and relax, watching the marine birds (frigatebirds and fishing eagles) and the Southern Cross at night.
I think the food, which was OK last year, has also improved, in quality, quantity and variety. Fish was on the table almost everyday, fresh vegetables and fruits at every meal.
And then, there is this superb location on the south beach, much quieter than the North beach (that you can reach on foot in 12 minutes anyway, if things are too quiet for you.)
Meeting people to share a boat is also easy, with LumbaLumba (always) and Mangkur Kodon (at low tide) five minutes on foot. When the south winds set in, crossing the island to go snorkelling in quietter waters on the northern side will take you 15 minutes only.
Yakob, Helga and the kids are really friendly, although their English does not allow for lengthy conversations (I speak Indonesian)
So, my decision is made already : Warahnus will be my base in my next visit to R4.

  • This was the first stop on our journey of Raja Ampat and found it the best homestay of all! It was great to start at Kri (especially in “low season”) and meet some other nice travellers and gain much info about the area (especially what has been seen at what dive/snorkel sites or guesthouse).
Waranus serve proper amazing food (changes of chicken or fish, Tempe, tofu, Veges, and some fruit). Only breakfast was a little uninteresting but we found this at every single homestay.

The rooms are comfortable and breezy. We visited in May, so being on the south side of Kri, it was nice and shaded and cool compared to our stays on the north side, perhaps in the December period this would not be the case as the sun moves southward – all our stays on the north side were considerably hotter).

The washing water was the freshest we found anywhere. The house reef is very good with blacktip sharks and turtle to be found everyday. Entry to the reef dropoff is super convenient via the jetty which avoids having to step over the fragile seagrass ecosystems at low tide. The private jetty is just awesome, especially at night with the live shows put on by feeding trevally and the stars above!
The family keep to themselves but are lovely and accommodating. We did not get picked up at Waisai as promised but this is not uncommon in Raja Ampat and finding a boat was very easy anyway.
Diving is available just 3min walk next door at Lumba Lumba guesthouse. Tibault, Carrie and Pak Dedi looked after us so well there – fun, professional, affordable and very knowledgeable – they also get 5 stars!

  • We stayed at Warahnus Homestay for 8 days and it was absolutely wonderful. The host family are really nice and friendly and helpful with boat trips. The homestay is just in front of a beautiful reef with plenty of fish, sharks and turtles. We really enjoyed swimming and snorkeling from the jetty. We really don’t understand the comments about the amount of food. Everyday we got plenty of delicious food that varied every day. There is always tea, coffee and water so you really don’t need any extra snacks or drinks. If you don’t have any food or drinks in your rooms you won’t have any problems with rats visiting. All the bungalows have a hammock in front of the beach and it’s lovely to lie there and listen to the ocean.

We had such a nice and peaceful stay and would definitely come back.
    Thank you for everything

We really don’t understand the comments about the amount of food. Everyday we got plenty of delicious food that varied every day. There is always tea, coffee and water so you really don’t need any extra snacks or drinks. If you don’t have any food or drinks in your rooms you won’t have any problems with rats visiting. All the bungalows have a hammock in front of the beach and it’s lovely to lie there and listen to the ocean.

We had such a nice and peaceful stay and would definitely come back.
    Thank you for everything

  • • we stayed at the Warahnus homestay from April 23rd till May 5th and our stay there was very pleasant. Unfortunately, Bermon was ill, but he came from the nearby village a few times and helped with some arrangements. Most of the time we dealt with Yakub who was very helpful and nice
    • our private bungalow was not specious, but had a good mosquito net and a nice sea view
    • rats were visiting our bungalow at night and the dining room during dinner, but they were harmless and once only tried some of our medicines
    • Helga is a very good cook and our meals were delicious. Fish and fruits were served almost every day and drinking water, coffee and tea were available anytime
    • Telkomsel simPATI SIM card allowed access to internet
    • the island hills have good viewpoints, but their paths are often steep or slippery during rainy weather and therefore trekking requires good shoes
    • the house reef is rich with corals and many fishes and allows good snorkeling. Boat trips of the Warahnus homestay are a bit expensive (we visited with them Yenbuba and Yenkoranu jetties) and therefore we preferred to travel with Tibo and Carrie from the diver’s club of the nearby Lumba Lumba homestay who have 2-engine boat with roof and kindly brought us to Kabui Passage and Friwen Wall and transferred back to Waisai
    • it seems the house reef is increasingly visited by various liveaboards and can quickly become too crowdy. Hopefully, this will not happen in the near future
    • we felt at home at this homestay and we are very grateful to the Sauyai family and Doug from the stayrajaampat website who made our visit so pleasant

  • I stayed 9 nights in total. There were only 6 guests while I was there, and we were spread out in the bungalows. It seems the older ones near the jetty have resident rats that live in the trees and visit at night (I had absolutely no food after reading previous reviews) the guests in the newer bungalows didn’t have any…so try request the new ones if you don’t want to be disturbed! I do believe there are rats at most of the other homestays too.
The jetty is a big bonus, it’s the only one on this side of the island, and the snorkeling is superb. If you feel energetic, you can snorkel all the way to yenbuba jetty, and visit the small village beyond a small island between. You can even walk across when the tides are lowest (around full moon) this is a great area to see turtles and lots of black tipped reef sharks. I even spotted a sleeping wobbegong shark under the jetty. Sooo many fish to see, and some are pretty big, including trigger fish. The corals are beautiful and such a variety. I went diving with lumba lumba, which was incredible and reasonably priced. I highly recommend these guys.
It’s pretty hard to arrange trips when there’s only a few people, so I suggest you ask at the neighbouring homestays, as there isn’t much signal here. It is better on the end of the jetty. If you buy a local SIM card, it must be registered otherwise it will stop working in a day or two. You can also walk across the island to the other side, and to an elevated viewpoint for the sunset.
Unfortunately Bermon was I’ll my entire stay and went home to yenbuba, so we made tours with diving. Matheus will run you around by boat, he was very helpful.
As for the food…well, it really is pretty much the same after meeting others. It was a little bland and unvaried the first 3 days, and then they went shopping, and it did pick up dramatically. It is basic, but there was plenty. 2 veg most meals, and fish around every other night.
Mosquitoes didn’t seem to be a problem, only a few bites. I used the Indonesian repellent in sachets and it seemed to work pretty well.
Overall the staff were friendly and helpful especially when we needed an early breakfast due to diving.
The room was nice with a balcony and hammock.
Remember to bring plenty of suncream, and some drinks if you get tired of coffee, tea and water. Beers were not always available, so best warn Bermon if you want a constant supply! There is no beer sold in yenbuba, but you can buy warm soft drinks and snacks, cigarettes etc.
I really enjoyed my stay here, I loved the location, and would recommend staying here.

  • Plenty of shark, schools of fish etc. to enjoy in the house reef.

Nice hut and the food was good. Merlin is a great cook.

  • We stayed 6 nights at Warahnus mid february 2018. It was our first stop on our one month trip to Raja Ampat. A part from the pick up in Waisai which was a bit late (we waited with other 8 guests heading to Kri for 1.5 hours at the harbour) we had a lovely stay at Warahnus. Bermon is a very kind person and speaks very good english and came all the way with us to the Waisai hospital to translate when my boyfriend had an ear problem. The snorkel tour around Kri and Mansuar as well as the tour to Wayag were well organised as requested. All the bungalows are well kept. We didn’t see any rats or other intruders. Overall the place and beach are very nice and clean. Cleanliness of the two common mandi bathrooms and toilets could need some improvement though. Food was good, a bit repetitive and not much fruit though (as in the other 3 homestays we stayed). If you feel there is not enough food or fish just tell them and by the next meal they will cook more. The 4 single-room bungalows are a bit small but provide more privacy. The two double-room bungalows have bigger verandas but are close to kitchen and bathrooms. All rooms have a hammock and a small writing desk on the balcony.
We definitely recommend this place and will be back if we have the chance to visit Kri again. Avoid the north coast if you don’t want to stay in an overcrowded place that starts resembling a mass-tourism beach with a lot of construction activity going on.
Thank you Bermon for all the help and greetings to all the staff. We hope to be back.

  • A good option for the quiet side of Kri. Be advised, there are 8 rooms now, not 4, so it can feel a bit busy. Great jetty! Great snorkling between the “homestay” and Yenbuba village, however, the overall health and color of the near surface ecosystem is much deminished from our visit 4 years ago. And the amount of trash from Sorong and increased tourist traffic is dramatically greater.

  • Sorry for taking time sending this comment. Me and my husband stayed 4 nights at Bermon’s homestay. It was great ! Bermon is a shy guy but very honest. If he says something you are very much sure that it will not change the following day : regarding time of rdv or prices for the activities. He is very calm and it is very nice dealing with him. His father , philippus is a lovely oerson too. Like to chat eventhough he doesn’t speak english. So funny. The sister and brother in law of bermon are nice people, too. For the food, yes, i agree that it is not “Top chef” but it is not really important. Regarding the rats , there are rats ; They only come and visit your room if you have food , even sealed in a plastic bag, they smell it ! So don’t keep food in your room ! I haven’t tried keeping the food in a plactic hermetic container, maybe it will do it. For the activities, Bermon took as to Peynamo. great experience and bermon tried to give his best to please us. he really did everything he couls. especially at the end of the day seeing the Mantas. By the way Bermon, in my video go pro, when they were after the Mantas, i filmed some mantas, they were there ! I have to find a way to send you the video of our trip. Maybe you can give me your address email.

So for the others who are still hesistating to book this homestay, please don’t. Very nice place and you reall feel at home.

Enjoy your stay at raja ampat ! I want to thank the webmaster team of this website “stayatrajaampat.com”. i Very good job guys
! Thank you very much !

  • We stay 7 nights there. The beach, bungalow and snorkeling was nice. Daytrips are overprice.
The food wasn’t enough with bad taste. Many times
only Rice,Tofu and little bit vegetables. Half chicken for eighth person. But the most problem there are the rats in the nighttime. More than five rats coming in the bungalow evry nights. So some people leave the Homestay after one night.

    • Hi Helmut & Caro

We happen to be at Warahnus right now. They have quite a few guests. Nobody has seen a rat. Perhaps you were keeping food in your room that attracted them? Nobody has any complaints about the meals either. We’re sorry to hear that your experience was so different.

  • Bermont is a fantastic person. As everybody tells here, he is very shy but fantastic.
Will never forget warahanus. Only typing this my tears come to my eyes rememoring my days in warahnus. One of the best thing i have done in my life.
Want to say all waranus people is amazing. Everybody always smiling, and this is the best part. Will never forget.
Food is great, and the breakfast superb
Worst thing. Mosquito, mosquito net. They are lions!

  • We stayed for one week at Waranus and can recommend this homestay.

It is situated on the south side of Kri – the quiet side, in a lovely cove on a beautiful white sand beach.

The homestay is very well cared for by Bermon and his family, the toilets and mandi were always clean and we never ran short of any supplies.

The food was always plentiful and delicious – A good mix of fish and chicken, loads of veggies and fruit for afters.

Breakfast was different every day, we had little bread rolls, cakes, pancakes etc (which made a welcome change from the usual fried bananas at other homestays)

However I second what Mel noted in her review below – We encountered the same issue with missing breakfast. I highlighted the issue to Yakob one day and his lovely wife made us some extra pancakes which was very welcome!

It was also my partners birthday during our stay, so I put in a request with her for chicken and some cakes for after dinner, which she made with love.

We enjoyed sharing a joke with Philippe, Bermons father. Although he doesn’t speak much English, he has a wicked sense of humour and loves to have a chat! Such a great character who makes you feel very welcome 🙂

My partner was sick during our stay, so Bermon took me to the pharmacy in Waisai – he speaks very good English and was a great translator in helping us get the correct medicine.

We found the bungalows to be smaller than average for RA, but were equipped with hammocks which we were very grateful for.

Our main gripe was the mosquito net – ours had seen better days, lots of holes patched up with safety pins.

We have stayed in many homestays across RA so are well used to the rustic conditions, but the damp smell from the net was pretty bad. Please invest in some new ones soon Bermon!

The main draw to this homestay for us was the house reef, which is fantastic. On an average snorkel we saw sharks, turtles, lots of schooling fish and the adorable baby eagle ray who frequents this spot!

You can swim across the channel all the way to Yenbuba Jetty on Mansuar, which is awesome the whole way across.

For snorkelers it is a great location for Cape Kri and Sauandarek, which are both a short boat trip away.

Thank you Bermon and family for taking such good care of us during our stay.

  • Nice jetty that extends right out to the dropoff of the reef where lots of fishies roam. Good amount of food, a lot of veggies. Bermon was really helpful and speaks damn good english.

There were a few rats that came visiting each night, and it’s one of the busier homestays, so sometimes peace and quiet isn’t on the menu.

  • We started our journey at warahnus homestay in November and stayed there for 5 nights.
Originally we planed to stay for 3 nights but we had such a great time that we decided to stay longer.

We can absolutely recommend this place because of the best house reef we have ever seen!!

The food is also good and there are many places around where you can go by boat for snorkling!

Thanks to the whole family for making our stay wonderful!

  • Warahnus is a little paradise on earth. They have a great house reef, great food, friendly people, cosy cabins right on the beach with hammocks. I stayed here 3 nights and moved on to another Homestay just to come back to Warahnus two days later. They were the best.

We met very nice people here and felt very comfortable in our bungalow. The bungalows are simply furnished, but it is quite adequate. Berman is very shy, but very nice and helpful! The house reef is fantastic. We have seen so much! Beautiful corals, many fish schools, sharks, a lot of turtles and so on. It is also possible to organize various excursions to other islands. The family makes everything possible. The food was completely adequate and delicious. We have nothing to complain about and we are happy that we spent part of our fantastic time here!

  • We stayed at Warahnus homestay on Kri island for 10 days in January. I am so happy that we chose this homestay as it was perfect for us. They now have 8 bungalows in total. 4 x stand alone and 2 newer ‘duplex’ bungalows with real beds. We stayed in a stand alone bungalow and preferred this for privacy.

The accommodation was basic but clean and comfortable with a good mosquito net. The balcony had a hammock where I spent a lot of time – admiring the amazing view. The showers (dip mandi) and toilets were clean also.

Food was excellent. Normally fish or chicken plus rice and two different veggie dishes and some fruit for lunch and dinner. Breakfast was some type of carbohydrate – cake, crepes, donuts. We never went went hungry. The only issue we encountered (and this had nothing to do with the homestay) was that all meals were eaten communally – which is fine, except if you were a late riser in the morning. We were always up early and on more than one occasion, other homestay guests helped themselves to multiple servings leaving other guests who came later with no breakfast. Just be mindful of others please.

The reef out the front was amazing for snorkelling. Sharks, turtles, schools of fish, schools of squid, bumphead parrotfish and many many other things. Amazing really.

Bermon is quiet but understands english well and will go out of his way to meet any reasonable requests you have.

The two house doggo’s are awesome too 🙂

We LOVED our stay and were very sad to leave.

  • We stayed at Warahnus for 3 nights mid-december. We were 2 couples staying in 2 bungalows.
We really think we made the best choice with warahnus homestay. The location is amazing, the beach very nice, and very clean which was not always the case in front of the other homestays of Kri.

The host are a smilling and nice family (it was the holidays while we were here so all the kids were there, playing around and helping)
Bermon speaks good english and is helpful if you need something only.

The reef in front of the homestays is amazing, full of corals, fish ( groper, porkepine fish, batfish, longtom, trumpet fish, parrot fish, giant triggerfish, clown…(too many species to name), turtles, baby or adult sharks, and the family was finishing a nice wooden jetty which will provide even more underwater life.
What’s best than wake up in the morning and go directly snorkel in this giant aquarium before your breakfast !! ???

We were also able to go (walking on the sandbank at low tide) to the village of buba where the jetty snorkeling is crazy ( best I’ve seen in my life)

We’ve also been to the viewpoint of Kri (45 min walking in the jungle) wich was nice.

The food was good and in very good quantities.
You can consider it basing but in Raja homestays don’t expect too much on grilled fish, it will be more about fried Tuna or chicken or eggs with tasty soup of cabage and rice or vegetables, and we enjoyed it.
Tip: if you want grilled fish, try the seafood market in Sorong.

Regarding facilities, the bungalows were very nice and clean, facing the ocean and over water at low tide.
The common shower and toilet are clean as well.

For us, the great upside of Warahnus is that it is a small / familial and clean homestay (only 6 bungalows) different from the Kri’s North shore homestays (large homestays, managed like resorts.)

    On the downsides :
The waste management… they burn the trash (away from the bungalows). They even try to burn the beer cans, to bad they don’t collect and sell back the aluminum.
On a larger scale, the trash management is and will be a big problem for Raja Ampats… It appears that a lot of plastics are carried from Sorong by the currents… and I’m not sure the locals are aware of the situation and how it will destroy their paradise.

Also we would have enjoyed some more beers to relax at night (ok… we drink a lot… sorry Bermon)

And the credit card payment was down so we had to use some cash that we needed for the following adventures… in general everytime we had wanted to pay in card in Papua, the system was down…. i don’t know if it is to avoid the system or not but you litteraly have to carry wallets of bank notes….

    Go to warahnus !

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Warahnus Homestay. Below we will outline the topics that we expect to be important for anyone booking a homestay on Kri Island.

    Accommodation:
As all homestays on Kri Island, the huts are basic with a mattress on the ground and openings all around. The hut at Warahnus was clean, which should be your only concern when booking any homestay (rats and insects are present at every homestay). There was a hammock, which is a big perk. If a homestay does not have a hammock, this really limits your privacy time as it is comfortable to relax on your hammock either after lunch or dinner or when you have been snorkeling or diving for an hour or two. The shared shower was simple, but the water was fresh (at least we didn’t feel any salt on our bodies after taking a shower). The toilet is western style and clean.

    Food:
One of the reasons why we opted for this homestay was due to the reviews about the food. We don’t mind eating simple food, but at least there should be plenty. Nobody wants to go to bed with empty stomachs. Lunch and dinner were rice based dishes (sometimes noodles as well) with either some chicken, fish or egg and loads of vegetables. Breakfast is some sweet coconut cake dish so if you like to have big breakfasts I suggest to buy some stuff while in Sorong. Overall, the food was good. We can’t compare with other homestays but as I read on most reviews the food seemed to be not enough at most other homestays. At Warahnus, you’ll be fine in this regard even when they are fully booked (as was the case during our stay).

    Staff:
The host, Bermon, is the only one who speaks English. He is shy, but understands everything and will try to fulfill your requests to his best possibilities. Bermon bought coca cola’s for us when visiting the nearby village. He tried to arrange the diving as well (see my comments further below). We had no trouble being picked up by speedboat from Waisai and back again: Bermon ensured we were picked up on time and dropped off in order to catch our ferry back to Sorong (we took the morning ferry and catched a flight later that day – should be fine if you can trust the host with arranging the boat from Kri Island to Waisai). Bermon’s father, Filip, is cheeky and might ask you to buy him a beer or two ;).

    Location:
We visited the other part of Kri Island several times. Compared to the northern part of Kri Island, Warahnus is located perfectly. Indeed, it is a secluded beach with only one other homestay (Luma Lumba) further “down the road”. One new homestay is under construction. On the other side of Kri Island – with all other homestays – it is way less secluded. Almost every part of the beach is either built or under construction. If you want to have a more quiet and “in the middle of nowhere experience” I suggest to book on the southern side of Kri Island or – alternatively – on one of the 2 or 3 homestays at the western point of Kri Island (they looked very nice).

    Snorkeling:
The house reef is absolutely magnificent! The coral is colorful and the fishes plentiful. You will see large schools of fishes, turtles and reef sharks. Reef sharks can even be seen while laying and relaxing in your hammock. As the southern part of Kri Island is more secluded, you will find yourself alone snorkeling quite often. Snorkeling never gets bored here and might even be better than diving.

    Diving:
We are divers. The only “disadvantage” is that Warahnus does not have its own divesite. You are forced to book via another homestay. Normally, Lumba Lumba is the homestay Warahnus operates with for their divers. The dive instructor at Lumba Lumba is unfortunately quite often away, which means you have to dive with an unexperienced other instructor at Lumba Lumba and you have to arrange the diving/ask for the diving continuously. As we didn’t consider the replacement of the Lumba Lumba dive instructor as professional, we walked through the jungle to the other side of Kri Island and dove with Wobbegong (1 dive) and Delvin (4 dives). It takes about 20 minutes to walk from Warahnus to Delvin and 25 minutes to Wobbegong (via the jungle, a bit uphill – be careful not to walk to the viewpoint at the crossing as we did the first time). Although Wobbegong and Delvin are somewhat more professional than Lumba Lumba, don’t expect the dive instructor will “hold your hand” during the dive: they will bring you to great dive spots, but there you will be more or less on your own. My friend was inexperienced and needs guidance, reason why he decided not to dive anymore after two dives as he felt not comfortable with the dive instructors (also taking into account the strong currents). If you are somehow experienced you’ll be fine, but if you’re not you should consider not to dive and only snorkel or book at a reputable dive resort (which is costly). In conclusion: you can book at Warahnus and dive, but take into account that you will have to put some effort in arranging the diving yourself as Delvin and Wobbegong will not pick you up from Warahnus (even if they promise to do so; sometimes they are just too lazy to dive at all and you have to beg them to take you on a dive trip ;)).

    • Thanks for the detailed review:)
We plan to stay at Warahbus in April and my only question which you might can help me with is if we have a flight from Sorong at 2:15pm is it doable to catch that flight if we take the morning ferry like you did? What time were your flight?
Or would you recommend to leave one day earlier?
      Thanks a lot!!

  • Wonderful home stay. Basic, like all of them, but peaceful (the north coast is experiencing a lot of construction works lately) clean, super friendly family, good food and plenty. No complains at all. Thanks to Bermond and his family for this wonderful 10 days.

  • I highly recommend Warahnus Homestay and Kri island in general. The water is beautiful here and the snorkeling is excellent. One of my favorite places in Raja Ampat, especially during low tide when the sand bar appears and you can take wonderful pictures and even walk to the neighboring island of Mansuar. The homestay was basic but great. It would have been much nicer to stay in the newer bungalows which have an elevated mattress but i did not know they were available until the end, I found the food to be good. Lunches and dinner had a good selection and very tasty with nice spices. We ate vegetables, rice and a protein with most of the meals i had there. Breakfast could be improved because just donuts but since lunch was just a few hours away it was okay. Bermon is very kind and helpful and was always around to help out and showed me around. We did a few snorkeling trips and liked the location of Warahnus. It is on the quieter side of the island and very peaceful. Be sure to bring your own soaps and shampoo as well as bug spray, plenty of SPF ( i got a big sunburn even on a cloudy day!) and a flashlight. You will need it, especially if you hike up to the top for sunset.

I found everyone in Raja Ampat very kind and helpful and the day trips and transfers can be split with other guests so these costs were not very expensive since there were other guests there and was able to coordinate with them.

A special thanks to Bermon and his family and to Doug for this wonderful site which was such a great resource in planning my trip. I had a great experience. My flights were all on time and the ferry just slightly delayed.

  • The location is amazing, a real paradise.
I mean, really. You sleep in a wooden bungalow over the beach, and you can see more fishes than you’ve ever seen just snorkeling 5 meters from your bed (and even turtles!), sometimes also from the balcony of your bungalow (we saw a walking shark while having dinner and some reef sharks while having lunch.
In less than 15 minutes walking you are in the space between the 2 parts of Kri, and when there’s low tide it’s really like Maldives.
And the best part is that you’re almost alone, just with a few other people that are usually nice.
And now the not so perfect parts: there are many mice around, so don’t can’t keep food in your backpack!
The owner doesn’t speak english at all, so when there isn’t his son it can be difficult to communicate.
The prices for transportation by boat are a little expensive, compared to the other homestays.

  • I spent 3 nights in Wahranus early June. Overall excellent experience. Contrary to some comments, I found the reef in very good condition, with plenty of exciting marine life : Do you often catch 2 sharks, or one shark and one turtle on the same picture ?
Food was OK, but not the best I had in R4. Agree with JJN comment that fresh fish should be on the table and plentiful everyday.
The bungalows are basic but clean as I expected.
As said, the snorkelling was absolutely great (to Yenbuba jetty and back with the children (forgot their names !). But getting to the reef drop off at low tide is not easy. Special thanks to the kids for taking me for a long walk at low tide to Yenbuba on Sunday, … and for preventing me from stepping – on 2 occasions – on some nasty / poisonous creatures on the way.
Forgot to mention the frigate birds and the fishing white-headed eagles.
I’m really planning to get back there sometime in the future.

  • Our stay quite mediocre. Prices approaching Maldives for quite spartan rooms and starvation rations.

    1. Boat was late for pickup
    2. Return was problematic for many. Some may have missed first ferry. Homestay has no long haul boat so relies on lazy family member to deliver ad hoc services.
    3. Snorkle boat was full price but loaded up with freeloader family and friends.
    4. For the price, boat should stay out twice as long but they hurry back.
    5. Room had no sleeping platform which can easily be fashioned out of local wood in a few hours.
    6. Rats. Only a few, but they breed insanely fast.
    7. Meals were 100% dreadful. Never had anything delicious. Always worst but of fish and meager. Cold food. Starchy bkfasts.
    8. Many fishless meals. Mostly fishless meals. When fish was served it was burned up and just the rubbish bits.
    9. Every day with my own eyes the family would bring in lovely fish. None of it made its way to the guests table. Kilos of fish. By end of trip I became resentful….and hungry.
    10. Total lack of vegetables.
10A. No, sorry hard boiled eggs is not a meal. Nether is noodles and cabbage.
    11. The father was very annoying. Very. Begging and grubbing. Come back and bring ME…mask, fins (never saw him in water), tobacco…blah blah.
    12. They don’t need to overcook them mash the rice. Orang asing don’t eat rice with hands.
    13. Many guests became sick. My guess is poor food handling (rice) and old unrefrigerated rice.
    14. Reef is ok but lacks marine life and sadly color.
    15. No sunset from beach

I’m left with the feeling that all these homestay just feed you trash and put up with occasionsal outburst. After all, at €55 a night it’s all good. You’re gone in a few days. By not feeding you these families need not bother with going to market or finding non locals that can cook some decent Indonesian food.

    Turtles
    Manta
    Bumphead parrotfish
    Sharks few
    Cuttlefish

    • I should add. Don’t believe for a second about pricey fuel. These people making bank. Think nothing of hopping in the boat and shuttling between islands like making a quick trip to 7-11. Ridiculous. Playing around in the boat all day and night.

      • It’s sad your experience contrasted so markedly with that of most other guests JJN, but your feedback is appreciated and useful and will hopefully help to improve the consistency of guests’ experience at Warahnus.

Regarding fuel prices: Everyone has an opinion. These are the facts.

        • I think people are largely polite and as we all have good hearts and want the best for these businesses, but they are businesses.

We are paying far too much money to shug off illness, bad food, inattentive staff and a bit of panic making planes (not us but others, we plan and overnight in SOQ).

All the people while we were at the homestay had serious issues with the food. Serious. Further, if you poke about on YOUR website you’ll see shitty food is a very common theme as is rats.

As is all of it. I’ve simply just focused on it.

We almost missed the ferry and small group before us very possibly did.

I’m livid over the charter boat prices and max pax 4, then they load up a few kids and who knows who.

The petrol prices are what they are, what I’m saying is the locals don’t care and are not conserving petrol. The guy went to the besar for a handful of items many items. I’d see empty boats going back and forth all day long.

The fish thing was very frustrating. There is absolutely no excuse not to have huge amounts of fish every night. Grouper and snapper in the road in SOQ is 50-90k. That’s a retail Warung. Fish, salads, etc…

I thought the reef would be far better. It’s sad to say but it’s clearly dying.

Finally, you state on this website that the price to pier from airport is 100 but I got it for 70k without any fuss and now knowing how far it is I’d say it’s a 40k ride plus Papua petrol surcharge. Next time I’ll try for 50-55k.

Finally, we stayed at this place more than a few days so people only doing a few nights might not be aware of this drama. Nevertheless, it’s real and if you read many, many of the other posts for other homestay bring up the same issues.

These places are way over priced and the food imo is worth maybe 4€ a day pax and that’s being generous.

          • Thanks again Joey. We are indeed aware of every comment made on the website and all of them (both good and bad) are relayed back to the homestays concerned during training workshops to help them improve their service.

It’s worth bearing in mind that most homestay operators have zero prior experience of any business, let alone in the hospitality industry. Most have also had no more than a primary level education. That’s why we provide training workshops to help them understand and do their best to satisfy guest expectations and develop the skills they need to run a successful business.

It’s obviously no good for anyone when basic standards are unmet, and nobody expects that poor service should be shrugged off.

Nevertheless, it’s unrealistic to expect an effort so new to immediately achieve essential basic standards. It’s also unwarranted to cite the occasional failure to meet those standards as evidence of systemic exploitation of or lack of regard for guests.

  • Stayed 3 nights, March 5-8, 2017. Overall very happy. The speedboat taking us to Waisai was a bit late but at least they left a message so we were not worrying. Reached the homestay in about 40 minutes. Great location in a protected cove with long white sandy beach. Simple, rustic, clean bungalow with a small terrace facing the sea. Blankets and towels were provided. Warahnus had added 2 double room bungalows so it’s no longer the 4 private ones only. They also reserved the big family’s hut for guests. In full house condition such as when we were there, the dining area was a bit crowded so Kety, the cook, kindly served our meals in the bungalow’s small terrace. There were one bathroom and a toilet next to it but they were building new ones – should be done by now. The best thing was we could enjoy snorkeling right off the beach in front of the homestay (be extra careful during low tides though) towards the Yenbuba village. Healthy, colorful corals (some damaged ones too) with lots of fish including a few sharks, bumpheads and turtles. We also went snorkeling to the surrounding areas (Sand Island/Pasir Timbul, Cape Kri, Yenkoranu Jetty and Yenbuba Jetty) altogether for Rp 700K using a long boat as the speedboat was used by a big group of other guests. For diving, Warahnus works with the neighbouring Lumba Lumba homestay which is also a dive operator and the owner is related. Warahnus’ room rate is one of the lowests. Food was tasty and instead of only 2 dishes as in many other homestays, they served 3 varied dishes + fruits. Good service. Nice family with great and fun children, all helping taking care of the homestay. Bermon is a bit shy/reserved but don’t hesitate to communicate with him as he understands English. Warahnus’ speedboat took us to the next homestay in Arborek and on the way we snorkeled in Manta Sandy – and boy we were so lucky to be able to swim with the amazing creatures! Thank you Bermon, Kety, pak Yakub, pak Pilipus and children (Ulis, Sepi, Agai, Uyun, Ena) for a wonderful stay.

  • This is such a great homestay. Beautiful location on a lovely white sand bay with amazing snorkelling and only one other homestay on the beach. One of the days we snorkelled all the way to Yenbuba Jetty which was the most amazing snorkelling ever – highly recommend if you are happy to snorkel for an hour or two. You can also cimb up to the lookout point which was really beautiful and definitely worth doing – the path is near Lumba Lumba. We saw the dive boats anchored offshore, but didn’t find them nearly as much of a problem as other reviewers, it does not diminish this beautiful place too much. Bermon was quiet, but always very helpful whenever we asked for anything, and his English is good. Construction on the new bathrooms isn’t finished, but is progressing well. The food here was AMAZING – plenty of variety (not just fish, greens and rice like other places) and very tasty. The breakfast was often just cake, but the banana fritters on one morning were delicious and on our last morning we had nasi goreng. Our one issue was that there was a little colony of ants that lived somewhere near our bungalow and they found their way into the bungalow and into some of our smaller bags a couple of times. They will just clean everything and then leave, but it was still a bit uncomfortable. We were staying in the single bungalow nearest to the dining shelter and have let Bermon know about it so I’m sure it is fixed by now. Definitely stay in this wonderful homestay if you are looking for somewhere to stay on Kri!

  • I stayed for 2 nights (16 to 18 of March) and I share Joachim’s point of view regarding the food and the tours.
Even when there were some issues Bermon tried his best to solve them. He has a very positive attitude.
He helped us get very early in the morning to Waisai to get a ferry ticket (it was a special weekend after a festival in Waisai, so the ferries were kind of full)
Would like to add that Bermon was very fast and clear in his emails.

  • Ten wonderful days in a new hut. There are now eight rooms, two huts with double room has been build recently. Two guests found place in the house of the family, so we have been eighteen guests instead of eight, too much for one toilet and one mandi, but Bermon is already busy to extend. Good luck! And always enough water. He may think about recovering rain water. During our ten days we had a lot of it.
Organisaton of tours to the mantas (wonderful!) and other places was good and not too expensive.
We would like to have two simple plastic chairs, some simple shelf for little things to store and some hook to hang up clothes.
Meals were inconsistent good, some were wonderful. For breakfast we missed just nasi campur ,only oversucred Cake is not our favorite choice. Some breakfast we received banana fritter, good, but a bit more variated offer ( esp local fruit: bananas, papaya, melon ) will increase satisfacton.
Although: many guests reported meals in other homestays were worse.
There is a problem which may be important for stayrajaampat to recognise: up to three diver ships anchored in the bay, polluting a lot of noise and exhaust gases from their engines. They start their engines during the night for several hours and leave the bay after night dives. This was disturbing.
And: the ferry at 9 h from Waisai was not a speed ferry. Bermon organised a transport to the Waisai airport, we could buy tickets to Sorong. Others reached their flights after 20 min delay of the ferry and nearly four hours time only because the flights were delayed.

  • Warahnus is quite peaceful. It is a lovely setting with the bungalows at the water’s edge looking out over a tranquil bay. The wonderful family does an excellent job running this homestay. It is well maintained with lovely plants scattered around the property. The food is excellent. There is a nice beach to walk on at low tide. The reef directly in front is very good, as is the reef over at the village. Paying by credit card was quick and easy. Thank you for a great two weeks!

  • We had a great time with a lot of snorkeling and nearby diving with lumba lumba. A fine place to stay with bermon and family!

  • I really enjoyed my stay at Warahnus Homestay. Nice and clean facilities, good food, beautiful view from the bungalow and great snorkeling just few meters from the beach! Bermon responded rapidly to my emails and helped me to recover personal belongings that I left in the room when leaving. Terima kasih Bermon & family!

  • Words do not describe how amazing this homestay is!! We had the best ten days here of our entire trip. We even tried a homestay on Gam but had to return to Warahnus because we missed it so much! The meals were just incredible (best in Raja Ampat) with great diversity, flavour and more than we could ever finish. The north side of Kri Island where Warahnus is set is an extraordinarily beautiful quiet beach. We did pretty much all of the trips, Bermon and Johnas organised and tailored our days to make them cost effective and super exciting. The snorkelling off the beach was perfect and over at Yenbuba Yetty you can find more colour and activity than Finding Nemo!! Snacks were always provided and the entire family was friendly and accommodating. The rooms are clean and the whole homestay is beautifully decorated, the garden with flowers and shells, just shows the time and thought thats gone in to making Warahnus such a paradise. We’d highly recommend the walk to the look out point at sunset, a trip to Piaynemo with stops at Arborek and Manta point (best in the morning), Cape Kri is just incredible and Friwen Wall for something a bit different. You can also see loads of sharks at Yenkoranu Yetty, which is great to walk to. We only snorkelled and I don’t think we missed out on anything.
Thank you so much Bermon and family!! We’ll be coming back very soon.

  • It was a great stay in Warahnus Homestay. Kim, the commentator before brought it to the point. Nice bungalow, nice dining room. Excellent beach, brilliant snorkeling, perfect food, clean facilities Really nothing to complain!

  • Warahnus is the quintessential paradise beach experience. You can lie on the soft white sand, go for beach strolls, hike in the jungle along the ridge, take a big swim to the point for a special snorkel, walk to the village at low tide. I had a brilliant time here. It’s perfect for relaxing with views out to the horizon and watching the amazing livaboard boats coming and going. They all stop to see this reef. There is first -class snorkelling straight out in front of this homestay. The new bungalows each have private balcony with a hammock and the grounds are nicely landscaped and well tended – they have made it look so lovely. There is only one dog and she is the sweetest in all Raja Ampat. Very gentle and likes cuddles. The food was excellent. Plenty of it and good variety, there were some really delicious, outstanding meals. Bermon and Johnas speak very good English, it is family run and they are all so polite and happy and helpful.

  • 12/8/2016 – 14/8/2016: There was a misunderstanding about asking information and making a reservation, but in the end we stayed 2 nights at Warahnus Homestay.

It was really nice experience! the food was excellent and a lot of variety: the best we had during our stay in Raja Ampat! The bungalows are brand new and clean.

The hosts are very friendly, don’t speak much English, but willing to help!
We were the only ones to stay there, so we had the beach & bay all to ourselved. The coral & fishes were amazing! on both sides of Kri the underwaterlife is amazing, but the side of Warahnus is closer to the beach than on the other side. Excursions are more expensive, since we were the only 2 persons on that side of the bay, so we had to charter a full boat instead of sharing it with other people.

it is rare that you can walk to the other side of Kri. You need a boat transfer to go to the other side.
