Activities
Turtle Homestay Diving
Turtle Homestay has an on-site dive center. See their website for diving prices and information.
Please note: In October 2019, dive centers at Kri made an agreement that they will not ‘steal’ clients from each other. This means that, if you are a guest of a Kri homestay with an on-site dive center, then you will only be able to dive with that dive center. If you want to be free to choose who to dive with, then do not book Kri accommodation at a homestay with an on-site dive center.
Snorkelling
Excellent snorkelling is available straight off the beach, and Turtle Homestay can organise any snorkelling and sightseeing trips you want to do.
See our Kri Island page for more information about Kri and its attractions.

Great place. Coral reef just off the shore. Good food and friendly staff. Diving center as part of it. I would like to stay there longer.
Hello, there were three of us couples and we’ve just spent 17 days on Kri Island at Turtles Homestay. A magical, breathtaking place, with bungalows under the palm trees right by the water’s edge. The team, led by their manager Franklin, gave us the warmest of welcomes. Always smiling, always keen to make us happy – everything ran smoothly, from the dives to the excursions. The meals were very varied and there was unlimited beer 🤣. We did over 100 absolutely incredible dives there. The team of dive guides were a real treat, always attentive to our wishes and no pressure whatsoever, whether on the boat or underwater. In short, a stay of pure bliss in a corner of paradise.
Wonderful place, relaxing and quiet. The bay is sheltered and water warm .
Bungalow has everything you need including large plastic box to put things away from rodents ( though one managed a few nibbles from my solid soap- so all git locked away). It is on edge of forest so we saw couscous and birds and some frogs. Bring ear plugs as there is a rather loud frog in the evenings.
Less moschitos than expected and the net does a grand job over the bed
My friend suffered from heat and fan not enough but I was good .
Bring some snacks if you need them although Franklin was great and manage to get me some cashew butter, biscuits and nuts from Waisai in our 7 days stay.
Dive guides really lovely an I really enjoyed going out with them and also diving the house reef . Many sites within half hour on boat and truly beautiful.
I’d happily go back and big thanks to the entire team there
Stayed at turtle homestay for 6 nights and it was absolutely amazing!
A stunningly beautiful setting in a secluded bay with serene beach right in front of the cabins.
The staff went above and beyond, with good realistic advice and guidance on the activities.
The rooms were as advertised, a real slice of paradise. Basic, but with private bathroom and toilet, a big step above the local average!
Having family ourselves who are living on a tiny island in Indonesia, we can 100% say that this was good. (consider where you are, and how uncommon this is)
The food, 3 meals a day cooked locally and to local standards was absolutely delicious.
Varied every day, with a vegetarian option for every meal to. We were very impressed.
All in all we wholeheartedly recommend Turtle Homestay to anyone who wants to have a real local experience with a bit of extra comfort!
Tips:
Travel with duffel bag, not big rollers…
They have starlink! But TelkomSel has really cheap massive 4G databundels, that work for the whole of Indonesia.
It was really a fantastic stay at turtle. The cabin was clean and comfortable. They make you feel very at home and you can communicate very well in English with the manager Franklin. The food was very tasty and there was plenty. I would definitely book here!
We were very happy during our second stay at this wonderful homestay. It felt like coming home. We had a great N-Years-eve party on the beach. Special thanks to Franklin and William. Already looking forward to another visit 🙂
It was a very pleasant week we spent there. The hospitality and the food were excellent!
Franklin was at the center of everything — a fantastic guy who fulfilled all our requests. 😊
Unfortunately, the house reef dives are not the best, but they’re perfect for a check dive. After that, it’s definitely worth going out by boat, as there are many great dive sites on and around Kri Island.
The accommodation is exactly as shown in the pictures, but the peace and calm of the island more than make up for everything.
Thank you, Turtle Homestay!

5 STARS.
Simple but very welcoming. It truly has everything you need. Impeccably managed, everything is done with the utmost care, including cleanliness. The food has always been varied and plentiful. Truly an excellent property, fantastic, highly recommended.

Not good. We were on the last leg of our trip in Raja and booked for only two nights. On the day of the arrival we were taken there by our previous hosts, only to be told that they overbooked the place (!) and we would have to be relocated to another homestay, on another island, for the first night and they would collect us the morning after and bring us back a Turtle.
When we got to the other homestay they told us we needed to pay for the boat which took us there and they would reimburse us the following day (not happened).
The following day they picked us two hours later than planned (so we missed the morning dives) and brought us back at Turtle.
We then scheduled an afternoon dive, got us ready by 3pm, only to be told that they had no boat that day and there would be no dive.
You can imagine the frustration of throwing away two entire days doing nothing in Raja Ampat, except from being pinballed between islands.
The cherry on top was when they told us they would gave us a free transfer to Waisai to come up for the whole mess, but on the day of departure changed their tune and said we would only have a 50% discount.
Oh, I almost forgot, food was scarce and bland.
Really sorry to hear of this Massimo and Cristian – that is indeed beyond annoying!
We guarantee bookings made on Stay Raja Ampat, and we will fully refund guests for every night that they do not have the room type they paid for.
We do need to hear from you as soon as it happens though. We can’t find any record of you reaching out to us about this earlier. Please do email us if we missed that!

We stayed for 5 nights January 2026 at Turtle Homestay. We had a very good time there, enjoied some dives. The bungalow was very spacy and we liked the two sunbeds with comfortable matresses. The food was exellent and really various. Special thanks to Frangklin (he speaks german fluently!) for his help!

We had a wonderful four night stay at turtle dive homestay on Kri island. The location is beautiful, on a white sandy beach, sheltered by the jungle, with beautiful clear blue water and a house reef at your doorstep. The bungalows were spacious, with two comfy sun loungers on each shaded balcony. The en-suite bathroom and shower was a real treat too – a significant upgrade from other homestays we stayed at. The food was good and plentiful. We are vegan, which the staff didn’t fully understand, but we could always figure out what we could eat (especially at lunch and dinner), and sometimes we’d get a separate special bowl, if the rice or noodles had meat in it.
The jetty was nice to snorkel off, with some nice house reef activity at the drop off point. The more shallow reef is quite bleached. Small reef sharks swim in the shallows too, and you can watch from your room or the jetty. The jetty is also a nice location to watch the sunset! And you can hike up to Kri viewpoint from Turtle, which I recommend.
The diving was great, but very popular while we were staying there. There wasn’t a clear system (that I could see) for how to register to dive (other than to ask the night before when the staff gathered after dinner). With a full guesthouse, their two dive boat spots filled quickly. The staff would do their best to make sure you could dive, even if you had to be referred to another homestay. Maybe it’s better to say you definitely want to dive every day, rather than pick and choose specific days. Nevertheless the dive instructors were excellent, and brought us to awesome dive sites (the maximum ratio of one instructor to 6 divers). The air supply was generous (260+ bar) allowing for long dives, which was great!
They also arrange snorkelling trips and rent snorkel gear.
Overall a very nice place to stay on Kri island!

Overall a very nice place to stay on Kri island!
Best stay in Raja ! For our last stop in Raja we spent 5 nights here and it was the best home stay we had so far after 2 mixed experiences !
Even if the bungalows aren’t on the water, the environment located in a little bay with all the palm trees looked wonderful.
The room was pretty good, a bit expensive but worth it, at least you have a private bathroom and toilet, no rats (they have many cats around) and the food is the BEST we’ve had as well, delicious, diverse and great portions !
All the activity and transfer prices and hours are written, the staff is very kind and helpful and there’s wifi from 6 p.m as well as 4g during the day. Plus, the dives center is known as one of the best around Kri.
We had great snorkeling sessions (Kri was truly the best place to spot more animals underwater) Overall it was a very pleasant stay, we would definitely come back we recommend 100% !!!
If you had to choose only one island around the Raja Ampat we’d recommend Kri, it definitely has some of the best spots !

We stayed 3 nights at Turtle Homestay, the last 3 nights of our incredible Raja Amapt trip. As it was fully booked we had two bungalows far from each other, which was not a problem. One of the bungalows (#11)didn‘t had light switches and the water pressure was inexistent, so we were happy to change the bungalows after the first night. New bungalows (#4 & 5) were nice and neat. We enjoyed having a private bath again. Housereef is disappointing, coral bleeching here is a very sad reality. Nearby spots such as Cape Kri and Friwen are nice.

We stayed for 8 nights in this magical place and had the most amazing time! The accomodation was comfortable, food was amazing with vegetarian options. The staff were all so helpful. Special mentions for our dive guides William and Asril for making our diving experience so memorable and keeping us safe! Their knowledge of the reefs and passion for the natural world was inspiring! We dove 2-3 times each day and they can help organise night dives if you’re interested. The day trips were incredible with stunning views and tasty lunches. The boat captains provided smooth journeys and good vibes with live music! I recommend this place to absolutely anyone who is interested in snorkelling, diving, tropical beaches and stunning views. We hope to be back one day!
Best wishes,
Kevin, Jamie and Hannah.

We stayed at turtle home stay for 4 nights.
The staff were very friendly, welcoming, helpful, and fun – this really added to our experience.
Staff (Will in particular) provided great information about dive spots and in the evenings helped plot out our next day of diving.
The rooms were comfy and thoughtful. They had a front deck with sun lounges which were perfect to relax on between dives and meals.

I spent unforgettable days at this beautiful homestay and had the chance to meet some amazing people. The reef right in front is incredible; you can see so many amazing fish just by jumping off the jetty.
My five stars are mainly for Asrul and Will and the rest of the staff. They are truly incredible human beings, and I sincerely hope to see them again one day. I left this place in tears, which has never happened to me before.
I highly recommend this homestay. Since it’s always full, it’s easy to split the cost of excursions and save a lot of money. We were lucky enough to go on so many trips!
The only advice I have is to offer more variety and a larger quantity of food, especially when the homestay is full. The first courses ran out multiple times, and guests couldn’t eat. To get food, we had to rush to the front of the line as soon as the buffet opened, just so we wouldn’t risk going hungry.
I will definitely return to this place, it truly is a paradise.

At Turtle Homestay we spent some wonderful days in great company. The place is magical, fully immersed in nature, and the food is very good. However, there are some details that need improvement. In our bungalow, the water pressure was almost non-existent and, despite our repeated reports, we had to wash for five days using the toilet spray (which was working). During the first few days, all the bungalows were booked and the food portions were scarce: several guests didn’t manage to get a portion because there simply wasn’t enough. Finally, when we arranged the excursion to Piaynemo, despite our concerns, the staff confirmed a full day at sea during a heavy rain, which compromised the experience (it felt more like a survival challenge than a pleasant trip to see a paradise). We would gladly return to Turtle Homestay, hoping they can take care of these improvements.

The start of our stay wasn’t the best: we had booked two bungalows at the beginning of January for August, and when we arrived, they told us they were overbooked and only had one of the older ones available. For the other, they offered us a beach hut for two nights, with nothing but a roof (which also had a hole) and no bathroom. In the end, we offered them an extra bed in the room so we could share the available bungalow for the two nights.
They later moved us all to two neighboring and much better bungalows, but the problem is that they didn’t let me know when I landed on the island, and I had no other options.
Anyway, the location was excellent, the best on the island, very good food, helpful staff, and a good diving and snorkeling center. The rooms were the best among the homestays.
The organized excursions were great.
If you ever have an experience like Silvia’s, please contact us immediately.
Stay Raja Ampat will refund you for every night that you have to spend in a bungalow that is not of the type you paid for.

One of the best (if not the best) diving homestay in raja. Great bungalows, super good food, very friendly staff and good dive masters/equipment.

We simply loved it from the very first second and didn’t want to leave. The reef is stunning, the staff are incredibly friendly, and the bungalows are fantastic. We would come back in a heartbeat.

Ci siamo fatti portare a Yenbuba Jetty e a Pianyemo: indimenticabile!

Stayed there seven days beginning of March. Good food and good diving with experienced guides. Nice snorkling form the jetty. Highly recommended.

Amazing homestay with incredibly good food and friendly staff. We wish we could stay here longer 💙 Diving was well planned and Rufus and Will are both really experienced guide who knows so much about the reef and animals. I learnt a lot, thank you!

Stayed for three nights and it was wonderful.
Tenzin went for two morning dives on all three days and visited multiple dive sites and different corals & fishes.
Gaetan dived for the first time and did two additional dives – it was very nice that they took his level into consideration and enabled a great diving experience by selecting cool spots.
We came for diving and were fully satisfied!
The homestay was very comfortable, wifi was not working, but locals offered their hotspot. Dishes were diverse and very nice. Were maximal happy with the homestay, activities and kind/professional people!

I’ve stayed at Turtle home stay from Feb 27th, 2025, until March 8th.
It was a wonderful experience: nice and varied meals, a bungalow with all basic comfort and a great team behind the service.
I’ve made numerous dives (14) with the team and beyond the incredible life of Raja Ampat and Kri island being central with a large variety of nice spots, the Turtle Dive center has been keen to ensure diversity and quality of all dives. A special mention to Will and Rufus who have been attentive to my passion for uw photography.

This is our second visit to Turtle Homestaty… ( we were here last year).. and really don’t want to give it another five star review as everyone will come and it will be hard for us to get a spot!! In saying that… the food was even a notch up from last year… such great variety and presentation! Thank you .. the best in Raja Ampat. The bungalow was very clean and having the private ensuite was such a luxury!! We stayed a full week doing two dives a day…. The dive shop led by William was excellent. His passion for marine conservation and working with the locals is admirable. He is very knowledgeable and tentative if you any concerns or issues. We have made good lasting friendships…. Thank you Rufus! Love the turtle homestay shirts….

We loved our stay at Turtle.
The food was amazing and different each day.
The reef out the front always had baby sharks, turtles and many fish.
Relaxing on the balcony was amazing.
Just the rats were a problem, put everywhere away- they ate through our toothpaste!

Best place to stay in Raja Ampat. The staff is great, the food is delicious, the rooms are very comfortable, and there are many things to do.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Turtle Homestay! Our bungalow was very comfortable and clean and the food was very good. The staff are super friendly and accommodating and even went out of their way to make me a birthday cake and sing to me for my birthday! The dive centre is awesome and we felt super comfortable and safe diving with them. Shout out to Will who does an excellent job managing it! Definitely recommend booking turtle, you wont be disappointed :).

Turtle is very large but also very good. Rooms are clean and relatively spacious. Food is nice. Power goes from sunset to midnight, occasionally lasting into the wee hours. Staff was a bit confused and breakfast serving time was somewhat haphazard but the star of the show is the man of many talents, William. Let’s hope he stays on. All in all, would consider coming back here.

Turtle Homestay is a truly beautiful place that provided an unforgettable experience for our two families during our week long stay. We were impressed by the friendliness of the staff, who were always ready to help and created a warm, family-like atmosphere, delicious meals and arranged outstanding day trips to reefs and villages. The beach accomodation, tree-filled location, house reef and jetty made every moment special, whether we were enjoying the sunrise or the sunset and everything in between. This homestay is the perfect retreat to appreciate the natural and cultural beauty of Raja Ampat.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the entire Turtle Homestay team for the exceptional experience we had.

Brilliant homestay. Will and Embo really looked after us. The food was outatanding and everyone seems to know that turtle has the best food around. They went above and beyond to give us a special Christmas day, with lobster, carols and dancing from the families that work here. The accommodation was really nice and it was very relaxing to lie on our day bed overlooking the ocean. Highly recommended!

Probably the best Homestay I stayed in Raja Ampat. Bungalows with private bathrooms, excellent food, great snorkeling from their own jetty, staff, nice beach for a small walk at low tide

We had a wonderful stay at the Turtel Homestay. We usually travel a little more expensively and in hotels. the stay was extremely nice. The terrace of the bungalows is directly above the beach, wonderful. the food was top notch and the staff were super friendly. it’s a dream and highly recommended. everything is organized and made possible. thank you very much for everything.
Best wishes and love to Nelly and Simson and all employees. When we are back in Raja Ampat, we will definitely come again. Rosmarie and Ernst we were there from November 20th. – November 23rd, 2024 with you

I stayed at Turtle Homestay for 4 nights and it was incredible!!! The place is managed by Will who does an outstanding job in taking care of the guests as well as regulating all the diving activities each day. The diving trips were well organized and the dive masters were professional as well as fun and friendly. The equipment was of high quality and was set up for you even.
The bungalows were really spacious and clean with private bathrooms. Also the locations was super nice with the bungalows straight on the beach and next to a long jetty where snorkeling was wonderful. The food was exceptionally good with a buffet with many different options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All of the staff were super friendly and happy to help. All in all I had the best time in Raja Ampat staying at Turtle Homestay and I would highly recommend this place to everyone!

Fantastic place. We stayed 7 nights and Will catered well for snorkelling and diving. The house reef was amazing, beautiful colourful coral and fish, turtles and reef sharks. I snorkelled whilst my husband dived and the boat driver watched out for me and Will gave good instructions and advice regarding currents. Will made sure we went to different places for diving / snorkelling each day. Food was amazing with good variety and seafood. The staff were all really friendly and helpful .
We highly recommend this place and hope we can return

Sorry to hear of this Jose – it is indeed unacceptable!
Stay Raja Ampat guarantees refunds for double bookings, and our booking confirmation emails provide support contacts for immediate assistance in the event of any problems.
We’re not sure why we didn’t hear from you about this failure at Turtle, but glad to read that the situation was apparently resolved to your satisfaction.

Dive center at this homestay is really nice, professional team. Will and Fernando and boat crew, thank you for making memorable time. Communication, equipment, guiding, everything was great with you. I highly recommend diving with them.
I stayed 4 nights at Turtle homestay. It’s a beautiful place, facing peaceful calm beach. Very friendly and attentive staff made our days 🙂 Snorkeling right in front of the homestay from the jetty to both right and left sides is great. Food was nice! They served diverse, delicious foods. Room is basic but overall clean. We saw cockroach at bathroom but no rats. But cockroach and gecko are common in any places in Raja Ampat, so it was no big deal.
Electricity is on from 6pm to midnight only. It’s common in Raja Ampat and totally understandable, but it got really hot at night when fan stopped running. There was not much wind at night when we were there in late Oct, and we couldn’t sleep well due to the heat without a fan. You may want to bring a small portable fan.

Magnifique !!!

Turtle Homestay turned out to be a disappointing experience, largely due to the absentee owner’s poor management. The owner was never on-site, while giving no one the authority to make decisions in her absence. It was clear the owner favored couples, reserving the nicer, newly constructed cabins for them while condemning solo guests like myself to the more rundown, dilapidated accommodations that either had pests or no running water. To make matters worse, my assigned bungalow was situated directly adjacent to the neighboring homestay’s toilet facilities. When I requested to be moved to a more suitable room, the absent owner curtly told me to simply leave the property altogether, unwilling to make any accommodations.
My recent experience at the Dive Center was quite good, thanks in large part to the leadership of Will. From the moment I arrived, it was clear that Will and his team of guides were committed to providing a top-notch diving experience.
It was evident that Will and his team were working with limited resources, as the aging boat used for dive trips was in need of some updates and improvements. The dives themselves were absolutely phenomenal, with Will and his guides leading us to stunning underwater landscapes teeming with vibrant marine life.
The food was disappointing, with several dishes that were downright poor, such as the deep-fried raw bread dough served for breakfast. The quality of the food noticeably improved once more guests arrived.

Estamos deseando volver ♥️

We stayed 4 nights with Turtle and absolutely loved it.
Food – very good, everyday different
Accommodation – own bathroom, drinking water in the bungalow, super comfortable sunbeds
Diving- there where so many passionated divers at turtle that we spontaneously decided to do our SSI open water course with turtles. Will was the best diving instructor, so kind and patient.
Snorkeling- the housereef was also wonderful (especially if you go to the right end of the beach) we saw every day turtles reef sharks, so many soft and hard corals
Thank you for everything hopefully see you soon 🙂

We had a really great experience at Turtle.
Great house reef, bungalows were spacious and clean, close to the viewpoint and food was good. I wish we had more fruits and fish, and less fried stuff, but it was always tasty.
The local staff was super nice, and the diving operation with Nando, Rufus and Will was small and lovely.
Had 1 small incident with a rat, but it was ok and a story to laugh about.
Would definitely stay there again.

A really nice homestay. The bungalows are comfortable, the food is good and the house reef is amazing. Snorkelling from the jetty with Fernando was a real highlight, so many blacktip sharks and turtles. Thank you to Will and Fernando and the rest of the team.

It was the best experience I ever made! I only can recommend the homestay because they have everything you need. They are kind, have a diving school, good food and else. You will meet many people all around the world and share trips with them. Big plus point! Also the reef next to the jetty is also very nice spot to snorkel.
I will come back if I have time again and can only recommend Will and the homestay crew!

My boyfriend and I stayed at Turtle Homestay for 4 nights and absolutely loved it. The huts were everything you need and more! They were clean, with a comfortable bed and your own toilet and shower. We particularly liked the outside porch with sun beds to lounge on!
Will, Rufus and the whole dive crew were awesome too! We loved diving with them at both Piyanemo and in local spots, with an added bonus of being shown around Rufus home village.
The food was the best we had in Raja Apmat! It was delicious and the variety each day was incredible! Something for everyone!
Thank you so so much for everything during our stay with you. It will always be a special place for me and my boyfriend, as he asked me to marry him at the end of the jetty!
Thanks again! Danielle and Joshua

We spent 8 nights at Turtle Homestay and loved the experience!
Diving with Will, Rupus, and Yonas was amazing. They gave us the opportunity to dive as much as possible and made the experiences really easy and fun.
Special shoutout to Umbar, the boat captain, for navigating the wavy seas and for always helping us get the diving gear on. It was very much appreciated.
The cooking staff always made great meals. On my birthday, they made a cake which was so thoughtful and kind.
There were 10 or so other guests and it was so awesome to have family dinners and make friends from around the world.

It’s a very serious homestay. Rufus is a good guy who help every people for diving, trip or transfer. Good food. Good service. Congratulations.

Turtle homestay was amazing. The villas were very comfortable and some of the best food I’ve tasted in Indonesia.
Diving with will was also amazing, he is so knowledgeable about the area and I felt so safe diving with him and the rest of the dive team. Definitely recommend this home stay for diving!

We stayed for 5 nights in July of 2024. The location being close to Waisai is convenient. The food was plentiful, delicious and varied. The staff went above and beyond, as my wife got sick for a day and a half, and they brought her warm soup to help her feel better.
The star of the show was the dive crew led by Will. Professional, reliable, flexible and knowledgeable. I did 6 dives with him and his crew. All were unique and fun experiences. Will also runs the show at the homestay, and you can ask him for help should something be needing.
House reef is incredible and due to the Jetty being long, you can snorkel high or low tide.
Bathrooms were basic, cold water only, but not brackish, was fresh from a well. I know other homestays have brackish water so this was nice.
Thank you so much to Nelly and Will and the crew!

I had an amazing time at Turtle Homestay. Will was just incredible, helpful and honest with his recommendations. It felt like a home away from home! The food was great and we saw baby sharks from the beach like every day! The dives were a lot of fun and Rufus was a great divemaster. It was just an awesome experience and I would totally recommend it!

We had an amazing 4 night stay at Turtle. Bungalows are simple but well made and very comfortable with an ensuite bathroom/shower. There is electricity from 6-midnight via generator which was great and fan if needed in the room. There is limited WiFi but still worked well when needed. The outside porches are fabulous with comfortable outdoor beds to chill and nice shade, great views. Food was also plentiful and good with decent variety.
The dive shop is fabulous, Will keeps it well run and was very helpful in organizing our dive trips. He and Rufus were great dive guides, the dive sites close by are awesome and the gear worked very well if you need rental gear.
Overall we had a great stay and would definitely recommend!

We spent 6 lovely days in turtle Homestay, the bungalow are comfortable and the private bathroom is a great plus. They have their own diving center and this make a huge difference between the other homestay, will is a great guy and always ready to organize activities and trip. HIGHLY RECCOMENDED

We loved our stay at Turtle. The bungalows are very spacious and have everything you need. There is also lot’s of shade. The food was delicious. It was the best food we had in Raja Ampat.
We came for the diving and were not disappointed. Will and Rufus are very knowledgeable and great guides! They catered to everybody’s individual needs and selected the dive sites according to tide and moon. But we were also able to make suggestions.

Turtle homestay cancelled my booking 2 days prior to arrival. (I had book and pay more than 1 month before). They just send a very ridiculous email saying they don’t have bungalows available. This is very poor customer service!
So just to you to be aware that they are not reliable and trustful.
This is a big stress because sometimes other homestays are full.
I don’t recommend at all!!!
This is indeed unacceptably poor service from Turtle, and we’re sorry this has happened to you, Ines. You will receive a full refund, or our support to transfer your booking to another homestay. Please check your email for our message about these recovery options.
We apologize for our unprofessional service. We hope to provide compensation for our mistakes. we can replace with free pick-up from Waisai

Wonderful stay with lovely bungalows and delicious food. The snorkeling is amazing.

We absolutely enjoyed our 10 nights stay in February.
Loved our bungalow – it’s simple but felt like luxury after having stayed somewhere super basic for a few days prior. It had an ensuite and shower. Bed is comfortable. All their bungalows have sea views and are tucked in amongst trees, which keeps it at a pleasant temperature. The house reef is nice – each time we went in the water we saw sharks and turtles. We also saw a Walking Shark, twice. Sunset views at the end of the jetty were awesome!
Food was quite simple but tasty and we always had enough to eat. We usually had fish or chicken + 2 vegetable dishes and fruits for dessert. We never got hungry.
They have a dive shop, managed by Will who is very experienced and great at planning the dives. All their equipments are brand new. Rufus is a great dive guide too. They speak English. Highly recommend diving with them.

We spent an awesome 9 days at Turtle Homestay The bungalow was very spacious and a comfortable bed. The view off the deck and swinging in the hammock was spectacular… what a view to wake up to. So quiet and peaceful there. The food was above our expectations and definitely a step above the previous Homestay we were at. We felt very welcome and Will was very knowledgeable and informative about everything. You can definitely tell he is passionate about the diving and his contribution to the conservation of Raja Ampat. His dive shop is new and has good quality equipment. It’s very small and can’t accommodate large groups but that is also what we enjoyed. Having tea and coffee on the sandbars and beaches.. so beautiful. Rufus spent time leading us on most of our dives… a young dive master and gaining great experience quickly… very friendly and made us feel like family. Raja Ampat is a special place and a privilege to have been able to go. Also the internet was very adequate for us We are happy we chose Turtle Homestay and hope we will be able to make the journey there again soon!

It was a wonderful stay at Turtle. Best place compared to other places I stayed during my trip. Wish I could have stayed there my whole trip, but had to move around because they were fully booked.
The best food all around. Complete meal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Top rated for that.
Staffs were wonderful, one of them took me for a hike to the top hill to catch sunset.
Diving with them was also amazing. William is the best. He managed to accommodate both new diver, like me, and the experienced ones. Rufus was also great. Went with him for the night dive.
All around – PERFECT 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Loved Turtle. Very relaxed diving centre and great fun. Food was the best we had in our stay on RA. Snorkelling right outside the huts we saw turtle. Sharks and large schools of fish

I have been on Turtle homestay from March 11 to 16 /2024. The bungalow was very confortable, big and lots of space for dress, with toilet with real shower inside the bungalow. Bed was very confy. The snorkeling from jetty was ok even if i had more expectation.I Just was snorkeling and i made two trip one to Sawaderek jetty and one to Manta point. I was not very lucky i Just spotted two little mantas and two Turtle. The Coral are still beautiful as soon as you are little far from jetty. The current was strong and the weather was bizzarre for this reason probably there was lot of plastic on the Sea and some trash even on the tiny beach, i was actually very sad about that. The team at Turtle was fantastic, they really care about their guest, food was the best i had in RA i also went on another homestay in Arborek. Every day there was a lot of variety, vegetable, fish, fruit, and in the afternoon Always something to snack. It was my birthday during my stay and on my surprise they provide me a lovely cake directely on my bungalow. It was lovely and very nice. To summarize It was the best homestay i experienced in RA.

We stayed at turtle Homestay for 11 nights and I have to say it was a wonderful stay!
The huts we lived in were simple but comfortable: each hut offers a toilet and shower, you also had drinking water provided in a canister (no other Homestay during our 4week trip offered any of that). The terraces are in the shadow so you can enjoy the amazing view into the bay without getting sunburn. Also, mosquito nets are provided, some of them may have small holes. Living right above the beach is an amazing experience.
We felt really welcomed and at home with the team working at turtle Homestay. we went diving with Will lots of times: he is a really good guide with whom you feel very safe. He really amazed us with the best dive spots around: piaynemo, Manta feeding station and lots of other beautiful dives. Will is not only a good guide but also a really nice and educated person: we found it really interesting learning about his country, culture and politics in Indonesia.
It was obvious that he doesn’t care so much about the money but rather to enjoy working as a dive guide and to make the tourists happy.
I need to mention that twice the air from a tank didn’t smell good (out of 100 air tanks used): as it turned out that was when they borrowed tanks from another dive school on kri island to be able to provide enough tanks for all the guests. So – as always – make sure to check your equipment properly before going into the water ;). Apart from that, the equipment appeared to be new and of good quality.
The food offered at turtle Homestay was really good: for breakfast there was always something baked for you: cake, pancakes, bananabread… also some fruits and toast with cheese.
For lunch and dinner we always had rice with amazing tasting fish or chicken plus some vegetables. You could not choose between lots of different dishes but the one provided was always really good – absolutely impressive regarding the fact its cooked in a small hut in the middle of nowhere.
Another thing you need to mention is the coral reef:
Right in front of turtle Homestay, there is a really beautiful coral reef with lots of different fish: baby black tip sharks and turtles could be seen almost every time we went snorkeling. we have been told there is also a walking shark living close to the jetty, unfortunately we never spotted it. What could be nice to know is that the visibility, amount of trash and jelly fish varies a lot: while rising tide there can be lots of trash and jelly fish, while the tide decreases, there is no trash or jelly fish at all. I feel like this is a thing not only at kri island but also all the other islands around in Raja ampat.
Concluding, we are really happy with our stay at turtle Homestay and would come back any time. A stay there is really worth it and absolutely recommended

We had a great time at Turtle Homestay. The bungalow was of a higher standard than most other homestays (with ensuite toilet and shower) and the food was excellent. There was always lots of choice, good quality and quantity. The location is perfect, quiet at night and not too crowded. Snorkeling the house reef off the jetty was great. Rufus and staff offer many options for snorkeling trips, both close and further afield. The advantage of this being a slightly larger homestay is the opportunity to join others on a trip and share the cost. If they could not accommodate everyone’s requests on any one day, they would arrange for boats from other homestays. Overall, highly recommended.

We really enjoyed our stay at Turtles. The bungalows were the best compared to the others we had on our trip through Raja Ampat. We had an own toilet and shower and everything was really clean.
The food was delicious, on some days it could be a little bit more. But most of the time we were absolutely fine.
The House Reef is insane. You see Sharks and Turtles in front of the jetty.
They also have a new Diveshop which was the best. Will, the Divemaster, is really competent and plans the perfect divesides for a day. But you can also tell him what you would love to see and he will try his best.
The groups are really small which we totally loved.
We enjoyed our stay so much that we even came back and we would definitely do it again.

We just stayed in turtle 3 nights with my wife and my 10 years old son and we really enjoyed our vacation. The bungalow was nice with a water sink and private WC which was comfortable enough. Food was good in quality and quantity. The homestay manager wasn’t there but Rufus, Soleman, Luis and all the staff were always available for anything. Another great plus is the very good diving so close, greatly managed by master diver William, you have to try it. The location of the homestay is great, with big and nice beach and the reef just behind is beautiful where you can easily snorkel and see turtles and black fin sharks. I’d have add a public shower which was missing, just to save water and easily flush yourself. It’s still a homestay, so obviously no current water and electricity only from 6pm to 12pm. We didn’t experience any rats and or snakes but other bungalows did…again that’s raja Ampat and you need to know and accept nature as it is, just keep your own food within plastic boxes they can give you

We arrived on February 1 in Turtle Homestay on Kri Island for 15 days. The site is magical, the reef in front of the bungalows is a real underwater garden, rich in a multitude of corals and a great diversity of fish. We are very satisfied with our bungalow with its attached bathroom and separate toilet. All the staff are lovely.
Only one regret, before booking we had seen unanimous positive comments on the kitchen of Nelly, the owner. Unfortunately Nelly is not present at the moment on site, the food is not varied, not very hearty. The fish served is always the same despite the marine richness that surrounds us and the dishes served are a little dry. Our regrets about the kitchen are shared by the majority of residents.

This is absolutely lovely place with the rich house reef. I highly recommend this homestay for travel in RA. Meal was great and diverse, staff helps to solve any problem (thank Rufus for internet:) Friwen wall is excellent for snorkeling, soft colorful corals.

Loved my stay at Turtle! Was quiet and peaceful. The meals were outstanding! Different menu each day with a good variety of fish, chicken, veggies, rice, fruit and baked goods.
Snorkeling right off the pier was easy and fun..turtles, giant clams starfish and an array of sea life. Boat snorkeling to Manta Point was awesome..seeing many mantas very close to us!
The accommodations are basic but included an ensuite bathroom which is unusual in most home stays and a very welcome addition. Hammocks on the veranda overlooking the beach.
I didn’t dive but the divers in our group commented the equipment is new and Will, the Dive Master, and his staff very professional. Costs for diving and boat snorkeling are per boat divided by the number of people on board making the costs very affordable.
I highly recommend Turtle Homestay if you’re budget minded and want to see Raja Ampat! I give Will and his group 5 stars!!

What a wonderful time we had at Turtle Homestay! Super nice bungalows, fantastic and more than enough food, so nice and friendly hosts … it was just a perfect holiday on Kri!!! We would especially like to thank Williams (our dive guide) and his team, we had some really great dives!!! Everything was just perfect … we will definitely be back!!!

definitely the best homestay on the island and one of the most peaceful places I’ve ever been. The Bungalows were clean, the furnishings are minimalistic, but you have all you need. The staff and the dive team were very carrying and friendly. A special thanks goes to Will, Rufus and Josua, thank you for the perfect time!

We stayed at Turtle homestay for 5 nights over NY 2023/2024. Having stayed at two neighboring homestays just before, we can highly recommend Turtle.
We truly felt part of the family during our stay, the owners are so welcoming and the staff are just the best. Special mention to Josua our excellent and gifted guide, together with Captain Edu, they took us on many excursions and snorkeling trips. Josua speaks English very well, he looks after all the guests and also has a very special connection with nature and the animals.
There is a long jetty leading to the start of the amazing long house reef, we spotted many fish, stunning coral, turtles, cuttle fish, many black tip reef sharks, and even rays. If you are a strong swimmer and calculate the tides and currents, you could even swim to Yanbuba jetty and back.
The bungalows are so nice and comfortable, besides the amazing view, there’s a private bathroom (very clean) with great shower, nice bed with mosquito net and sun loungers with cushioning and hammock on the deck, great for relaxation.
There’s plenty of drinking water, tea, coffee and even biscuits. The food was delicious and varied – lots of fresh fish and fruit, they even cater for vegans or vegetarians (do let them know prior to your stay).
All and all, we absolutely loved our stay and would definitely return.

We spent 1 week at Turtles and enjoyed our stay a lot. Paying attention in details is one thing, but the warm welcoming attitude towards guests was truly feltable. Grounds, bungalows (private bathrooms) and everything else were well kept of. Dive center is not fully operating since they just started it, so be patient and ask in advance if you want to make sure you have a spot to dive with them. Highly recommendations to stay at Turtles!

We stayed 10 days at Turtle homestay and had the most amazing days! The bungalow was clean, the food was good and the staff were so kind and helpful. We also enjoyed the diving with Will at the dive center for the home stay. We highly recommend this place while going to Raja Ampat!

We enjoyed a magnificent 5 nights at this outstanding Homestay.
The food was varied and plentiful, the rooms were very comfortable and the showers were a delight. The grounds were well maintained and somebody even changed the water in the foot wash bowl by our balcony every day!
In particular, the dive school was extremely well run and professional, the best we encountered in the islands.
Thank you to the entire team at Turtle.

Wow! What an amazing place. Good food, exceptional service. Amazing snorkelling by the house reef. Would definitely go again. We heard rumors about rats but did not encounter anyone. We even got a box to stash our food inside. They even got a fridge for cold drinks.

We stayed at Turtle homestay for 10days in dec. ’23. It was great in many ways! The room, the view, great location and reef, lovely fresh and delicious food but most of all the warm and the friendly people who took care of us. Thx so much we had a great stay! Best ever.

My girlfriend and I stayed at turtle for 6 nights at the beginning of November 2023, at the end of our trip in Raja Ampat.
Turtle is on the South-West side of Kri Island, perfect place where to enjoy the sunsets, read in complete quiet, snorkel on the top of a beautiful reef full of Turtles and Black Tip Reef Sharks.
During our stay we dove with Soul Scuba Divers, which is just 20min away by foot on the North-West side of Kri (they also pick you up for free at Turtle Jetty by request, but not with low tide). During our stay Turtle had just opened his new own Dive Center, which I think is a great project 🙂
Food was awesome as well as the stuff (thank you Nelly, Rufus and all the other kindly people at turtle!)
The Bungalows where just perfect and very clean with ensuite bathrooms and shower: luxus!
Really to recommend!

We couldn’t find anything wrong with the bungalow or the food. Rufus and Joshua also took great care of our concerns and always made our vacation rich. We would be happy to come back.

We absolutely loved our stay at turtle! Snorkeling on the house reef was excellent, the food was great and lots of variety over ten days, the staff cleaned our room and changed all our linen half way during our stay, the staff are so lovely and accommodating, and will do anything to help you. Joshua, Rufus, Eda, and the whole team are really lovely people, I can’t wait to stay with them again.
We did not see any rats during our stay, and the room provided a lockable box for food and valuables.
Don’t hesitate to book here, after speaking with all the other divers about their home stay experience we know all homestays in raja are basic but Turtle really is the best one!

We had a great stay at Turtle Homestay. Everything is excellent : comfortable rooms, boat trips with support, food, and the kindness of the staff ! You can also enjoy snorkeling at the end of the jetty and walks around. A big thank you to Rufus and Joshua for their professionalism, availability and smiles, without forgetting those who work in the shadows.
Kri offers many possibilities for discovering other places in Raja Ampat. We will have to come back to discover more !

Rufus and Joshua are the nicest people I encountered in Raja Ampat. They are very helpful and caring. Turtle homestay had the ‘fanciest’ room I have been in with a lot of space, beach beds, hammock, ensuite bathroom and toilet. Kri is quite a busy island so don’t expect to much privacy (you share the beach with many other bungalows). Even so, during the day it was very quiet. The advantage of a bigger homestay like turtle is that you can easily find other people to go on trips with to share the boat prices. They also had the option to request a lunch box in case you were out diving all day. Soul Scuba offers pick up from Turtle Homestay.

Paradise ! A wonderful family run homestay
The rooms have everything you need with an ensuite bathroom and the private balcony has comfortable lounges looking over the ocean. The snorkelling directly off Turtle homestay is amazing and there are plenty of other reefs to explore nearby. The staff were always friendly and helpful and the food was also fantastic
We would highly recommend Turtle homestay. We will definitely stay again

We enjoyed so much the few days we spent in Turtle. The team members are very kind, food is delicious and very different everyday, Nelly cooking so well, bungalows very comfy with private shower and toilets, and offering a great view on the ocean from their terrace. Definitively a very good place to be.

When you see a culture of excellence in a hotel, or a company, or a homestay, it is obvious to you and stands out clearly over B level, C level or even A- level places. The more time you spend there, the more details you notice, and therefore the more clear it is how much thought went into ensuring you get everything you can think of, and even the things you didn’t know you needed or would enjoy.
Turtle Beach Homestay clearly has that culture of excellence; it is deep & core to who Nelly & Shimshon are as owners, and to the family of kind, positive, professional members around them. It does not compare to anywhere my family of 5 saw in Raja Ampat, and all other travelers that stayed there with us said the same thing.
There are too many details to enumerate, so I will focus on the big ones:
– the food was excellent every meal (you tasted the love and the cooking talent of Nelly and her sister-in-law)
– the room is very well architected with great design details, and a wonderful large beach-facing porch
– the house reef is more abundant than some of the dive sites people travel to; we swam with turtles, sharks, puffers, box fish, the occasional tuna, and abundant tropical fish
– the grounds are spacious, well maintained, and of course, with this family’s work ethic, constantly being upgraded;, we even saw upgrades made in the 6 days we were there
– If the dock wasn’t so obviously designed to take you right to the great snorkeling start point, I’d think it was designed for Instagram photos. We highly recommend to walk out at night for a view of the Milky Way & shooting stars – moonless nights are ridiculously stunning.
– And the team… oh, the team!! The team/extended family is kind, genuinely positive, and super-professional… in trip planning, boat skippering, snorkel guiding & safety, keeping everything replenished, and being there (behind the food hall) when you want to talk about what you want to do next.
Obviously, we had a great time here. We are thankful, and come out with a true respect for the efforts made in creating this corner of paradise.
Nelly, Shimshon, Joshua, Milky, Ori, and those behind the scenes but making their impact… we thank you. Your care is evident and VERY appreciated!

Thank you very much to Nelly, Joshua, Meliak and all the team for the stay, which was very pleasant !
We stayed 6 nights in Turtle Homestay.
The food was very good (especially the occasional cakes !).
The room are comfortable, and there are private toilet and shower, which not all homestays have in Kri.
It was very convenient for snorkeling (go when it is high tide), you’ll see turtles and plenty of fishes. From the jetty you’ll see small sharks ! If you dive with Soul divers, they can come pick you up directly at the homestay !
Moreover, the guests who were here at the same time as us were very nice so we had a really great time !
So don’t hesitate, go to Turtle Homestay 🙂

After traveling half of the globe, i can say this was one of my best hotel/homestay experiences ever. After arriving in Raja -straight from home- i spent 6 days here.
Melly is super sweet. Joshua took me to watch the sunset and didn’t even charge. The snorkeling is really good, the sunset from the jetty is lovely, the food is AMAZING (I’m veg) with so much variation. The houses are right on the beach (ensuite bathroom with -weak- shower), set in a lovely and calm bay. It’s just perfect.

We had an amazing time at turtle! The room was great, the food was very good and generous, Rufus is the best he was extremely helpful and informative. He really went out of his way to help us. Honestly anyone who comments about the food or rooms negatively should consider staying in a hotel somewhere else…
The snorkeling trips that Rufus took us on were amazing, we saw manta rays, turtles, sharks, hundreds of different fish and coral.
We’ve already recommended to friends to go and to stay at turtle, we rate them that highly.
Thanks again Rufus, milky and the team at turtle.
P.s- Rufus please send us the picture !

We did not enjoy our stay in Turtle Homestay and do not recommend it.
Cons: cockaraoches, very poor shower stream, low quality food and repetitive dishes, poor cleaning maintenance, poor communication.
Note that electricity is available only for six hours a day, from 18:00 till midnight.

We have stayed at Turtle for 5 nights and can highly recommend it!
What we liked most were the spacious bungalows with cabinets for storage, a comfortable bed, and a bathroom within the hut. The food was really delicious, plentiful and we had varying options – especially the breakfast was better compared to the other homestays we stayed in.
The staff were friendly and welcoming and the location is beautiful (snorkeling right in front of the homestay, short trek to the viewpoint, quiet, nice beach).

We stayed for 3 nights in March. Beautiful location, amazing reef towards the edge of the beach a bit further out. Great food and nice to eat with other people. Good working bathroom. Collected from the boat harbour at Waisai without an issue.

Spent only 3 nights at Turtle Homestay in late March 2023..the most outstanding thing about this place is the delicious food! I have been travelling throughout RJ4 since 2009 and actually stayed at the only Homestay back then..it was on Gam it’s name was Maria’s..unfortunately it’s no longer a Homestay! Understandably most islands are remote so therefore sourcing food can be difficult..but it can be done..owner just needs to buy the food and send it on the boat when you get picked up from Wasai! The food in most Homestays have not improved over the years…apart from Turtle Homestay..believe it or not..our last night we had Lobster as well as a delicious king prawn curry dish…and every meal we were served fruit..which many of the other places are not doing! Meily who is the cook as well as the owner I think..speaks good English and is always there if you need any questions answered! The bungalows all have their own ensuit bathrooms, which is so good in my opinion! Also the bungalows had a hanger…as well as cloths hangers…a place at the side to hang your washing..they have thought of many small things! In morning one of the guys would pick any rubbish on the beach in front of the bungalows as well as change your feet washing bucket of water at your steps…those little things can make a big difference to your stay! Not too sure actually how many places of stayed over the years..but it would be close on 30..from Batanta..To Fam Islands, Waigeo Gam Kri..Rufus Arborek and others! I advise anyone who is going to island hop throughout RJ4 to leave Turtle to your last stop..otherwise I think you will be very disappointed..more so the food than anything! The house reef is OK..but many places not so far to travel for trips! Thank you Turtle Homestay for a great experience in Paradise! My 8th visit…and won’t be my last!

Turtle homestay is very nicely located on a quiet beach with jungle in the behind. The huts are good, the food is very tastfull and the staff is really friendly. The reef in the shallows in front of the homestay is almost totally destroyed. On the dropoff there is only some secondary reef, with low biodiversity, showing initial recovery. In this area reefsharks and some turtles and large fishes patrol. In the utter right (west) part of the bay, near the last jetty, the reef is much better with a lot of fish. Also in the utter east part of the bay (to the left) the reef is much better. In the evening and morning young small black tip reefsharks swim just 1 meter away from the beach. In the trees behind the huts Cuscus can be seen easily in the early evening. Each day on a pole in front of the homestay a Beach Kingfisher is always present. Rufus helps you finding good trips to other spots by boat, for instance to see Manta’s. Though we expected a bit better homereef we had a very nice stay for 5 nights, thanks to the whole team and the nice guests.

I Stayed for a week. Room was clean. The Bed comfy.
A Private toilet… a place to hang clothes.. a mirror and cabinet made turtle better than some other homestays!
No rats were seen.. loved the family dog…she slept on my verandah..
I’m sure I’ll be back

At Turtle, you feel cared for. That is all. Small things that make your stay wonderful. The bungalows are sturdy and the food is wonderful.

Very lovely and friendly homestay. We felt the most welcomed there! We loved the dinning area where we have met a lot of nice people from all around the world! The food was amazing. We loved the cake that was available everyday in the afternoon! Wish the other homestay will do the same.
Having a private bathroom was also great and practical.
The snorkeling is magical around there! Definitely recommending to everyone :))!

We stayed at Turtle from November 17th to 22nd. Of course the ensuite was a pleasure. It is a really happening place with lots of snorkelers to share tours. The food was better than we experienced elsewhere and management checked regularly to make sure all was well. The reef close to shore was a little bleached but a little farther out it was great. I highly recommend Turtle Homestay. we had a great time. Thanks Meily.

The food was better than we experienced elsewhere and management checked regularly to make sure all was well. The reef close to shore was a little bleached but a little farther out it was great. I highly recommend Turtle Homestay. we had a great time. Thanks Meily.
We stayed 8 nights at Turtle homestay. Beautiful house reef, very calm….Everything was great.
Especially The meal was so delicious. There are Hot water, coffee, tea in the dining room.
The rooms were clean, the staff friendly.
If it is possible, I will visit again.

We only can say Thank You to this Homestay. It is the best place that we had stayed in Raja Ampat. Thank you to all staff, specially Nelly and Ruffus.
It is more than a simple place to be hosted, it is like a home in Kri.
Best staff, really good food, nice bungalows, relaxing spot with a great snorkeling over there.
Don’t doubt to book this place to stay in Raja Ampat!

Compare with other homestays, I would say it´s the best in that Kri area, if you appreciate little comfort and private space.
The restaurant has good kitchen, good taste and always enough food to get full. Cookies and hot water for tea and coffee all day, cold water bottle in each bungalow.
The veranda of the bungalow is big, close to the sea with good view. Lying chair and 2 chairs with table and hammock on the veranda and little table and little locker in the bungalow. Mattress and pillows brandnew, moskitonet in good condition.
The owner and staff are very friendly and helpful, offer a lot of trips (mainly snorkeling).
The toilet is very simply, but have water tap for cold water and western style toilet.
Do not store any food in the luggage, the rats will gnaw on it.
Additional:
The dining room/restaurant is spacious and comfortable with chairs and big table.
Because there is no Wifi, you need a Telkomsel SIM Card. 4 G Mobilnet works.

Wonderful chilled homestay with surprisingly good food (including cakes and dohnuts, often two protein options and always fresh fruit) lovely family and a quiet beach. We had soul divers pick us up each day and enjoyed a great 5 nights with our wonderful host Nelly and her cute kids. They also have a fast boat for transfers and two paddle boards. You can hike to the lookout with a bit of a scramble to the main path. Beer is sometimes available and maybe it’s even cold. The rooms are a little dark and there was no cleaning during our stay. I would recommend.

Overall good, of my 20 days at 3 RajaAmpat Hstays. But MUST have Telekomsel SIM! The Positives- Superb location for decent priced (snorkel onsite, for diving go w Warahnus or Soul Divers also on Kri) tours to huge variety of sites from Cape Kri, and Fam wall to northeast,Manta Sandy/Ridgewest;, all of Mansuar (Sauwandarek/Yenbuba etc). Turtle H has super covered boat, fastest ever double engine. FOOD – Decent (fish quality ok but tough; chicken, veg, fruits great) quality and sufficient. Choc cake almost daily, tea, Indo coffee, drinking and hot water on tap. NO issues food poisoning I faced at another Hstay. HUTS- ok but be prepared -primitive, gaps in wood floor slats, looks shabby but things work and this place is WORTH the money. Small veranda with hammock, lounger, clothing line. SO grateful for tolerable private toilet/bucket style bath – sadly no sink. The family/staff super sweet – loved them – but English limited except for guide Rufus(Nelly’s nephew) and try best to help. Big dining area great for socializing! REEF-Super Long, I snorkeled almost to Mansuar (watch for currents, boat traffic) with decent small reef fish, at drop-off sighted adult blacktip sharks, turtles, black tip sharks, some massive sweetlips(?) in the deep. 2neighbors saw dugong. At sandy shallows near cliff saw a few adolescent blacktips.
The not great- MOSQUITOES! Bring powerful DEET and mosquito coils (buy from Sorong) or suffer. Nets not the best and I twice got bites all over despite patching net with clips (cos I only had organic repellent) . Nelly and family are trying their best but she travels to Sorong at least once a month (went twice in my 7 days there). Totally ok but no organizer to replace her, which affects discussing tours (guests chat and agree to share otherwise high boat costs),pricing and all-important transfers. I speak Bahasa and several tries with the weak cell in RA, but some German and French guests had problems reaching her. When she can respond, speaks English and is super helpful. Alternatively book trips (the whole island is same family) with the 4 other homestays, easily walkable at low -medium low tide, on this stretch of beach or Soul Divers(who get crazy busy so prebook dives early). Book any Waiwai, other Hstay transfers u need on Turtle’s boat ASAP, and confirm with Nelly. I had almost nonstop rainy weather in Nov (supposed to be dry) -making Turtle – located at base of steep hill w tree shelter, and to its left has jutting out cliffs – a bit airless, dark and very damp. Clothes don’t dry, bring a usb chargeable fan and flashlight as electiricy off by 1am. In my hut only 2 exposed nails, lucky I’ve hangars,S hooks, clips, handled toiletry bags.DOGS- love them so put up with some crazed howling and fighting on 2 nights. Bring earplugs. SNORKELTOURS – It was great to get to top spots like Fam and Cape Kri and guide Rufus niceguy, but strangely wasn’t enthused and didn’t point out much if anything, (once even leaving the snorkelers to sit out on the boat) on my 5 tours whilst another guest told me he was helpful. Given how expensive, tough to run simplest Raja Hstay, Im giving them topstars with respect for struggles and super sweet family.

Pros
-excellent house reef
-plenty of food
-electricity 6-12 pm
Cons
– rats in the bungalow (They ate our snacks in the backpack and even bit the luggage to seek the snack inside)
– rats droppings everywhere in bathroom
– too soft mattress

Thank you so much Nelly for the great stay at turtle homestay! The bungalows were perfectly clean and it was enough with space. Also a very beautiful veranda directly at the beach. The food was the best we have eat in Raja Ampat, just amazing. The hous reef was already a pleasure to explore with snorkeling and also cool that there are paddleboards to borrow! The tours were super organized and the guide, I want specially to mention Rufus, was very passionated about his job and showed us amazing places. I really recommend this homestay, you feel warmly welcomed from the beginning!

I stayed at three different homestays on Kri Island to be able to offer an objective comparison and review.
Without a doubt, Turtle was my absolute favorite homestay by far.
It all starts with the homestay owners- Nelly and Simson. It is clear that they truly CARE and have PRIDE in their lodging, and that they have really put the effort to think through what makes a terrific customer experience.
The big stuff-
* en suite bathroom….I appreciated the privacy and convenience and whatever extra cost in the room rate to have it provided, was well worth the money! Plus, it was spotlessly clean and well-maintained. Another homestay had en suite bathroom two, but the toilet seat was broken, the toilet only flushed intermittently and while it wasn’t filthy dirty, it certainly paled in comparison to Turtle.
* The bed was on a proper frame with a comfortable mattress (not a hard foam mattress like the other places), so I always got a good night sleep.
* The food, where do I start!? Almost every homestay basically makes no effort for breakfast, they serve coffee, tea and a roll or cake. Turtle offered choice of fresh eggs and or pancakes, both of which were delicious. While I didn’t;t get to eat their takeaway lunch for all day dive trips, I watched other guests enjoy their feast which offered a much healthier variety of food then my other homestay fried plus fried plus fried food! Dinner was fresh, tasty and delicious fish, plus two veggies, fried noodles and white rice. And for dessert, homemade brownies and fresh watermelon.
The small stuff;
* each room had its own bucket to wash our feet off instead of a communal one at the entrance of the bungalow area like the other homestays.
* each room had a fresh water dispenser, instead of having to go back and forth to the dining room for refills
* There was a shelf to store clothing and and bathroom shelf to store toiletries, where I was basically living out of a suitcase at the other homestays.
* two towels- one to to take on the boat and one for showers.
Finally:
* Nelly and Simson again! I know that these are homestays and that the local families have other responsibilities so they can’t be concierges for the guests. But the two of them made an absolute effort to be PRESENT in general. Even if just for a couple of minutes too inquire about how we enjoyed a particular meal or to wish us a personal goodnight or to arrange logistics. You could tell that they took a personal interest in guest satisfaction.
I truly felt the HOME in homestay with Turtle.
PS- They refer divers to Soul Divers that is a 5 minute boat ride away. Soul Divers was by far the most organized, professional and safety-conscious dive shop on Kri.
Dear Steve
Thank you so much Steve for the review. We are also very happy because you are very kind and friendly like family. we will be waiting for your return to turtle homestay..

We have been at Turtle for 8 days in January. We enjoyed to stay there a lot!!
The beautiful housereef is easy to reach from the jetty (we saw each time turtles and sharks), good food and beautiful well organized boattrips.
Nelly and her family are friendly and very helpfull. Nelly helped us a lot to plan our further trip in Raja ampat.
THANK YOU NELLY!!

We stayed 4 nights at Turtle in February
PROs:
– Spacious Hut
– ensuite bathroom
– 2 hammocks
– great food
– great snorkelling
– Stand Up Paddle Boards free of charge
– Kayak free of charge
– we didn’t do any daytrips at Turtle but they really look after their boats
CONs:
– for breakfast 3/4 only sweet breakfast
– at high tide no chance for sunshine
– at lowtide no chance to get to the reefdrop
– no mirror
It was a very nice stay for the end of our trip in R4 , nothing really to complain about but we don’t think it’s worth the money. There are other similar homestays for way less money.
Kind regards,
Jessica & Birte

Great place to have fun, take trips and snorkel around the house reef. The Host Nely is hard working, kind and has very handy information about where to go and what to see. The accommodation is clean, food is great, the beach is getting cleaned as well!
We definitely will be back:-) Thank you Nely!

We had good time on the island of kri, thanks to Nelly and her sense of welcome ! Everything is thought of for our comfort, Nelly and her team take care for us, always smiling. Bungalows are very comfortable, clean, with a bathroom, good bedding, and especially a dream view on the beach …. The reef is absolutely beautiful, totally preserved, accessible from the beach in a few strokes! Nelly offers outings (Pyanemi, Batanta, on a boat where you feel safe). Yenbuba pier is not far (we saw up to 5 reef sharks, a wobbebong etc ….). I loved my stay in this homestay, I will return for sure!
hi armelle..
thank you for everitings..
see you next time.

Bonjour

We went to kri in december 2018 and we LOOVEDDD turtle beach and Nelly’s family.
The place is wild and breathtaking, accomodations are simple but clean and the food is enough various and good.
Nelly also organised a super fun bithday party for jacopo With An Amazing cake and Karaoke.
I Really appreciated every single time there, even because we were in the Middle of the nature, far from everything.

Istny raj na ziemi. Drewniane chatki przy samej plaży, wspaniała rafa gdzie można spotkać żółwie i rekiny a także wiele kolorowych ryb. Kilka razy blisko wyspy przepływały delfiny. Przemiła obsługa, pomocna i zawsze uśmiechnięta gospodyni. Pyszne i obfite posiłki.

A real paradise on earth. Wooden chalet at the beach, a wonderful reef where you can find turtles and sharks, as well as many colorful fish. Dolphins flowed several times close to the island. A very good, helpful and always smiling hostess. Delicious and abundant meals. A private bathroom is rarely found in homestay in Raja Ampat. If you are looking for a place to rest you will not find a better one. Homestay organizes trips for snorkeling and admiring the views. There is also a diving center nearby. If you do not want to have persistent rats in the room, do not take food to the island with you. Do not worry, you will not be hungry. During several trips by boat we had the opportunity to get acquainted with other homestays and beaches and definitely Turtle Beach Bungalows wins.

We stayed 4 nights end of March 2019. We liked the hood, the ensuite bathroom and the snorkeling option at the house reef. Great snorkeling sites (like the jetty near the village) are just beautiful! There are truly a lot of sea turtles that are not so shy. Also we enjoyed the company of other guests during meals since we book a lot of quiet remote home stays except this one.
We encountered the rats as well but we did not mind. They left us alone. If you keep any food in your hood you might have a different experience. Everything was very clean and well taken care of. We took the trip to kap Kri. It was a bit stormy but great. We recommend to go at low tide on a sunny day without wind. The sharks there were huge!
Close to the home stay is also a path that brings you in 10 min to the other site of the island. Beware the spiders 🙂
The price was very fair without hidden costs. We even got a bill written down.
We definitely recommend this homestay if you want to stay at Kri.
thank you

Thank you.

My stay was overall very pleasant. Like everywhere on Kri, the beach is gorgeous. The huts have a very pleasant verandah with chairs and a hammock for afternoon snoozing. Because they’re shaded by trees, they don’t get too hot (I heard those picturesque over-water bungalows can bake in the afternoon).
The food was varied, abundant, and very good — lots and lots of fresh seafood. The free water in the rooms was wonderful, as were the private bathrooms!
The coral immediately in front of Turtle Beach isn’t in the best shape — I heard the effluvia from the rapidly multiplying liveaboard diving boats is killing it — but it starts getting gorgeous a few minutes down the beach by the Warahnus jetty. Be warned that if you have mobility issues it’s very hard to climb up the jetty’s ladder (the only way to get in and out of the ocean during low tide). You’ll see so many sharks, turtles, bumphead parrotfish, napoleon wrasses etc it starts to get funny. Imagine– the whole ocean used to look this beautiful, and now it’s just a few places like Raja Ampat.
As other commenters have said, the rats are a big problem. I don’t mind the sound of rats scurrying in the ceiling — that’s pretty common in thatched-roof buildings in Indonesia — but one night a rat fell out of the ceiling and landed on my leg as I lay in bed. It scratched me. Luckily the scratch didn’t get infected, but it was not a nice experience.
I’d also recommend booking the boat transport from Waisai to the ferry through another homestay. I thought 800,000 rupiah was standard, but it turns out other homestays offer it for 500,000, or free if you stay a week. Do shop around. 1,600,000 rupiah round-trip was A LOT of money for a single traveler on a budget.
Everyone on Kri knows everyone else. It would be pretty simple for the homestays to coordinate boat transportation so people aren’t left with a $120 USD fee for a short boat trip.
Also: There’s good cell reception on the island if you have a Telkomsel SIM card.
Thank you.

Thank you John and family for making my stay so enjoyable. Your mum was unwell and you did a great job making sure everything was ok for me. My snorkelling trip was fantastic and my room perfect! What a beautiful place – lots to do but quiet and peaceful. I hope to be back to explore this lovely part of the world. ???

Being in paradise on Kri
In December 2018/January 2019 we went to West-Papua for the first time and we really fell in love with this part of Indonesia.
Staying in Turtle homestay on Kri was a highlight of our trip.
As the homestay is family run, all family members make their guest’s stay very relaxed and try to fulfill all the wishes and needs of their guests.
During the whole stay we always felt very welcome, almost being a part of the family and we enjoyed our time there a lot.
No matter if you want to enjoy the treasures of the ocean, if you want to explore the island overland, make a daytrip to the neighbouring islands or just hang around in the hammock in front of your bungalow – there is enough to do for everybody. Last but not least also food was prepared with love and always varied and tasted delicious.
Unfortunately time did run too fast and leaving this cozy plaze was really sad.
So one more reason to come back…and we definitively will do!
Nelly and family, “injo” for being our hosts and please, don`t change, everything was perfect!

Turtle Beach is a good quiet place to stay for some days. We enjoyed the food, but brought also our own Porridge to extent the breakfast a bit. It‘s a pity, that the neighbors Fridas bild so many (3+ 5 ) overwater bungalows, which takes the good view to the nive halfmoon beach. We and also the guests in the other bungalows had all rats by night, whats not so comfortable and noisy. In all homestays we stood in Raja Ampat we‘ve got free drinking water. Great! On the balcony we had two grood chairs and a hamerock, but the bench in the outdoor restaurant isnot very comfortable to stay a while and be together with the other guests.
Thanks a lot to the family!

Turtle Beach Bungalows
We stayed here from 2 till 12 March 2019.
This review is divided in the following sections: hospitality, hygiene, location, accomodation, food and price. Every section is rated with a number between 1 and 5. Where 5 is best.
Hospitality – 5
When we arrived at Turtle Beach they helped us carrying our bags to the bungalow and a nice cup of tea was made for us. A good start of our holiday!
Whenever we had questions or we needed something they were there for us. For example we wanted to make a trip to Pianemo and Johny helped us figuring out what was the best to do.
Hygiene – 3
Why a 3 and not 5? In our bungalow there were two nests of rats. This was actually the only downside to our stay here. One big rat used our bungalow as his toilet. There was a terrible smell of it. Which let to us sleeping with our heads on the other side of the bed. Rats are common on Kri, they are in every accomodation. The other guests that stayed at Turtle Beach didnt have as much problems with the rats as we did. So I think it was just our bungalow. We told Johny that the smell was bad and they instantly cleaned it, which made it bearable. The rest of property is well maintained and cleaned every day. So it looked quite tidy.
Location – 5
Turtle Beach lies in Kri Island. Turtle beach is on the not so crowded side of Kri, which I definitely prefer. It was quiet and you had the feeling you were alone at the island. Another plus is the housereef just at your doorstep. The housereef is amazing for snorkeling and diving. We snorkeled every day we didnt dive and we saw a lot of beautiful corals, turtles and sharks! Last plus is that the island is quiet central for making trips for example to Pianemo or Arborek. Saves you money!
Accomodation – 4
The bed was really good, although every night we both rolled to the middle of the bed haha. There was a nice mirror, a hammock, a chair to read in and a western toilet. On Kri it is not common that you have a private bathroom so this is a big plus of these bungalows!
Food – 5
At Turtle beach there is breakfast at 7 am. This was mostly fried bananas or cake and tea. For me this was not enough. But later there was bread with jam and peanutbutter, which made it an excellent breakfast!
The lunch was between 12 and 14 pm. The portions of lunch were diverse, very good prepared and often the best meal of the day. We had rice, vegetables and fish or chicken and some fruit on the side.
Diner was perfect, big fried fish enough for everybody.
Price – 4
Everybody pays 400000 a person a night, thats roundabout 25 euros including all your meals. I think the price is a steal for what you get. For this price you get to live in paradise with a beautiful view over the bay, excellent and enough food, perfect diving and snorkeling location and extremely friendly staff!
All in all Turtle Beach is a great place to have your holidays. So what are you waiting for, book that bungalow;)
Cheers to Nelly and Johny and we hope to see you again!

Turtle Beach Bungalows – makes Kri even more wonderful
Dear Meilly Nelly and Family, first of all I would like to apologize, that my feedback took so long. It has been a wonderful week at your place. thanks for your superb caring, for the delicious food and for the nice trips e.g. to your place and to the „dragonfly garden“. We really enjoyed the stay and we can recommend it to everyone who decides to spend an amazing time in Raja Ampat. (Dec. 12. – Jan. 7.)
Bungalows: all new and very clean, equipped with a real bed, not only a mattress and an en-suite Bathroom, which is quite comfortable. There is a little Shelf for your stuff and some hooks. You have a nice little porch with a hammock, chairs and a small table… drinking water is provided, so don’t buy water in single use plastic bottles but rather bring your own Sig-Bottles or something else…. so there is everything you need 🙂
Location: the Bungalows are, as described right at the beach, the trees in front of them spent enough shadow and while high tide, the sea comes right close to the porch and you have a good access to the amazing reef… while low tide, it‘s better to use the jetty at „Warahuns“
Restaurant: very nice open Air Restaurant – very friendly, warm and welcoming atmosphere, all the time there is coffee, tea and cookies. It‘s really nice to hang out there and have a chat with the family or the other guests.
Food: A-PLUS… considering the feedback from people who went to other places on Kri I would say, Turtle Beach Bungalows provides the best and most delicious food on Kri. It‘s rich and varying, tasteful and just yummy. There was enough for everyone – just perfect.
What makes the place special… the family! they are so kind and helpful, organize transports and tours or giving you suggestions what to do. We just can say, thank you for this wonderful time.

Best place to be on Kri Island ! Comfortable bungalows with a real bed, en-suite-bathrooms, beautiful setting among trees on the beach. The best food we had in Raja Ampat during our 3 visits there: delicious, great variety, snacks in the afternoon. The hosts are the nicest & honest people, always a big smile, great hospitality and always ready for a chat. We stayed there one week in December, would have loved to stay longer. 5 stars are not enough. We hope to come back in March. WE MISS YOU! Terimah kasih banyak. Sampai jumpa lagih!

Is there any Dive center nearby?
Thanks for keeping this up! Your website is soooo useful!
Youre welcome Dennis – glad to know it’s helpful 🙂
Neighbour Lumba Lumba has a dive center. You can quickly find all the others on Kri by simultaneously applying the accommodation page “Kri” location filter and “On site dive center” Activities filter.

Great place to be ! Spacious comfortable bungalows including en-suite-bathrooms; very delicious and varied food, lovely staff (Melly & family are very pleasant people – thank you for all !) and the fantastic house reef at Waranhus-jetty right beneath will make this homestay a very special place for your stay on Kri-Island. Make yourself a pleasure !

On the website, price transfer from Wasai is written 600 000. I have asked confirmation price before taking the boat. They answer me I have to discuss this with the owner (which was not on the boat). Then after arriving at the homestay, they say 600 000 is old price, you have to pay now 700 000. Oil price is higher and bulshit. As they are member of the association, this is not fair.
Do I have to accept new price?
No, you don’t! Turtle Beach supplied their prices one month ago. It is their responsibility to keep their information updated, it is only a phone call to do that, and all homestays must only charge the prices they have advised on the website.
Refuse to pay any more, and tell them to call the asosiasi badan pelaksana if they have a problem (or want to update their prices!)
Update: Just in case you haven’t already heard Le Crabe, the issue has been resolved and you will only need to pay the website price. Hope the rest of your stay is enjoyable and trouble-free! 🙂
Thank you for your answer.
Unfortunatly the rest of our stay is compromis. We want to stay until Monday. For sure we have not been clear about our date departure. But they have accepted a new booking and tell us around 10 o’clock this morning that we can’t stay and must leave tomorrow morning. It’s very short time for us to organize new booking. We lost all our day try to find available place. But almost 4 pm and didn’t find solution. Lol.
Sounds like you didn’t book through the website. (Can’t find any booking from your email address anyway.) Booking via the website is always the easiest and most reliable way, and gets you our support in the event of problems. Good luck!
Yes we book directly at your counter at Wasai. But that’s OK, we understand that the management of extention when there is only 3 bungalows is not easy. We will move tomorow.
We are already in Indonesia since 22th october and are used to make late or no booking… It was easy because It’s low season everywhere but not in Raja Ampat which is crowdy.

Hi, thanks a lot for the feedback. Looks enticing. Was just wondering whether there are other homestays close by (on the same beach?). How did you manage snorkeling at low tide? The photos show a lot of stones, exposed corals…
Hi Shakun
Warahnus, Firdas and Lumba Lumba share the same beach. Entering the water at low tide is easy from Warahnus’ jetty.

We stayed here for 4 nights. Nelly and her whole family were very caring and welcoming.
The food was awesome, always abundant and varied from day to day.
With all the nice little details, the bungalows are more like in a hotel than in a homestay. It is probably one of the most luxury homestays on the island. We really enjoyed our stay there.
Particularly compared to the more busy northern cost of Kri, Turtle Beach Homestay is perfect for everyone who wants to relax in a beautiful place.
Of the four homestays we have seen on Raja Ampat, it was definitely the best. We highly recommend it to anyone going to Kri.
thank you so much marius and kirra
thank you for all and i hope you come to our place again at another time.

We highly recommend it to anyone going to Kri.
thank you so much marius and kirra
thank you for all and i hope you come to our place again at another time.
regards
Nelly
Five stars!
1. From the first moment we felt very welcome and home. We had an amazing time during our five nights stay in turtle beach bungalows.
2. This new built bungalows have a very good bed with a new -and not too soft- matrace. Due to the open space under the roof it was never too hot in the night. The bathroom is inside the bungalow. There is a stylish furniture for the clothes and towels. On the terasse is a hamock and in front a chillout bench on the beach.
3. The food was the most various we have had in a homestay in indonesia for a long time. We got everything from fish sate with peanut sauce to fresh barbecue fish with jolojolo, fish or chicken curry, barbecue chicken and soups. Food was eather served with salad or vegetables (potatos; wild spinach; carrot; cabbage). Every meal ended with a plate of fruits (every day another) and twice fresh baked sweets by Nelly; sometimes a drink of young coconut. We were eating and feeling like in a food paradise.
4. We liked the quiet location on the long southern beach of kri. We got droped by the staff by boat at yenbuba jetty from where we snorkel a fantastic 1-2 hours until home. We could go anytime to shore if we feel tired as we were swiming basically along the beach. In the evening we took a short mountain walk of 30 minutes to enjoy the sunset from top of kri island.
5. We enjoy a lot the time with the owner Nelly and her husband Simson who try to fulfill all our wishs. They accompany us to waisai and our friends to a local health center as we had outer ear infections. They went with us snorkelling arround cape kri and in the evening we enjoyed talking together – especially about the way to protect the corrals and animals as Nelly and Simson know from their job background a lot about these issues. Everytime there was a maleo bird or a big lizzard they told us so we had the chance to see the animals living arround the beach bangalows. Simson even hided some coconuts in hope of finding a coconut crab- however we didnt suceed- tidak apa apa:-)
We wish Nelly and Simson and the staff members Elis and Labe all the best for their homestay turtle beach bungalows.
