Public Boat to Batanta

If you have plenty of time, you don’t mind a bit of discomfort, and you want spend as little as possible on transport costs, then there are cargo boats that you can use to get to Batanta. (Obviously, if you are going to arrive on the cargo boat, then you don’t need to request a Waisai pickup when submitting the booking form above.)

Here’s what you need to know about getting the cargo boat to Batanta.

Activities

Pulau Dayan was the site of one of Conservation International’s first Raja Ampat Marine Protected Area patrol posts. It’s easy to see why. The reefs around Dayan Homestay are some of the richest we’ve ever seen. Be sure to bring snorkelling gear, because Dayan is a snorkellers’ heaven. You do need to be careful of the strong currents that sweep around the island when the tide is running though!

Dayan also boasts long stretches of perfect beach, including sections where it’s easy to get in and out of the water without stepping on coral. Mantas, whales, dolphins, and turtles are all often seen, and dugongs are occasional visitors.

Dayan's homestays are very remote – but if you were heading to (or from) a Pam Islands homestay, Dayan would be the perfect place to spend a few days in the middle of the journey.

The pure, clean waters of the bays around Dayan and Batanta are perfect for oyster cultivation, and there’s a pearl farm nearby that could probably also be visited if you were interested. Batanta jungle treks and waterfall visits can also be arranged.

If you’re interested in seeing one of the last remaining villages in Raja Ampat in which all the houses are traditionally built, organise a visit to Yennyar. Yennyar is the name by which everyone refers to it, but the village’s formal name is Marandan Weser. Yennyar is a forty minute longboat ride from Dayan.

If you’re looking for a place to really get away from it all, can afford the extra travel cost, and are looking for excellent snorkelling and blissful downtime, it’s hard to imagine a better alternative.

  • Snonbepur is such a treat! I’m a solo traveller, and both the guests and homestay family were very welcoming. Lots of fish, beautiful reef, fresh fish, and the family is just gorgeous. On our last night, they played music for us and we all danced. Super authentic, would absolutely recommend for anyone – thanks David 💚

  • This year (2026), we were again in the David’s place. Our previos review is still visible and published on 16.03.2023. At that time, we were one the first customers of this homestay. That is why we were very happy to come back.
Unfortunately, in 2026 this place is a completely different place where we were in 2023.
Now, we did not like at all. It was our worst stay during our Raja Ampat trip in 2026.
Reef: it is almost destroyed. I was shoked what we saw under water. The reef is mechanically damaged, probably by boats.
Food: no fish (we were served fish once) during our 4-day stay. The food is almost the same every day, rice, eggs and some vegetables and fruits. In 2023, fish was served every day, and the food was delicious.
In 2023, it was really a last paradise, now I can call it the lost paradise. It is very disappointing.
In plus, the houses became better and there is a Starlink internet, that is why I gave 3 stars.
I am quite surprised that this place still has positive reviews.

  • The Trip was really nice for me as a Solo-Traveller I stayed from Tuesday until Saturday and had some great tours to the flower garden and the dugong point.
There were lots of manta, in my opinion even more than around Kri and Aborek.

David and his family were really nice and you could see that he really cares about the details (two separate buckets, light in the bathroom, broomstick to sweep the sand, raised mosquito nets and towels).

Diving was also easily arranged with Dayan Homestay and hopefully even with David’s Dive Center in the future.

The transfer to Sorong was also great and I could share the cost with other guests.

Overall it was a great stay, so thank you David! 😊

  • We enjoyed our stay in November 2025 with David and his family. The bungalows have private bathrooms, raised beds and intact mosquito nets, which made our stay very comfortable. The food was sufficient and varied.

The house reef was the best we experienced during our trip to Raja Ampat. We saw cuttlefish, octopuses, sharks, and even dolphins! We can also highly recommend the excursions with David and his brother, especially the manta point infront of the homestay 🙂

Communication was mostly excellent as David speaks very good English. We especially appreciated how much care the family takes to keep the beach clean.

Thank you for this wonderful experience!

  • I enjoyed my stay at Snonbepur. The huts were clean, the food basic but plentiful, often with fresh caught fish. I was there for 4 days and was getting worried that I might not get a boat trip out to the reef as David and the speedboat were under a lot of varied demands. The trip did eventuate and was really good. I’d suggest you not wait for perfect conditions, the weather is so localised anyway. If you get the chance of a tour, take it. Just beyond the house reef is flower garden, long boat trip, beautiful!

  • I had a really good time at this place
Bungalow was nice and although basic – had everything I needed.
Food was good and relatively diversified.
    House reef was nice,
and David (the owner) was a great guide and offered a number of good short and long trips in the area.
    Thanks David.

  • We enjoyed our recent stay at Snonbepur. David was organised and communicated clearly in good English. The reef to the left of the home stay was fantastic, we saw manta rays both times when we went to the manta location just off the homestay, the dugong viewing area had so much rubbish and poor water clarity and we did not see dugong so we would not recommend this tour. Accomodation was good, food was average compared to other home stays were stayed at but overall a good experience

  • We loved our stay at Snonbepur Homestay and would highly recommend it.

One of the things we really appreciated was the clarity and transparency around pricing. The costs for boat trips and suggested activities were clearly written up, which made planning so much easier. This hadn’t been the case in some other homestays we stayed at, where pricing often felt unclear or required awkward guessing or negotiation. Having everything clearly explained was a huge relief and made the experience far more relaxed.

David is a wonderful host who consistently went the extra mile to create a genuinely lovely experience. We did several trips with him, often using a speedboat, and he regularly put in that little bit of extra effort that made the days feel special and well cared for.

While visibility around Batanta wasn’t as clear as on the Mansuar side, the reef two bays to the left of the homestay was phenomenal. The soft coral there was incredibly healthy and vibrant — we absolutely loved snorkeling there.

The location of the bungalows is beautiful, peaceful, and thoughtfully set out, adding to the overall sense of ease and connection with nature. The food was also very good and generous, which we really appreciated after long days in the water.

Overall, it was a truly beautiful all-round experience. The clear communication, thoughtful planning, warm hosting, and stunning reef made Snonbepur stand out, especially compared to some less experienced homestays where language barriers can make organisation difficult. We loved our time here and would happily return.

  • A great homestay!

David and his family are lovely people. Very kind and willing to help. The bungalow was good, maybe some shelves to store the clothes would be a good addition.
The housereef is ok, but not the best I have seen so far. The mantas are amazing. I saw them on my two mantas trip. And one day they spend a long time swimming right in front of the homestay, that was awesome.
Prices for trips are fair. Trips are organized everyday on request. Food is very good! Adding some fruit to the breakfast would be awesome, and some afternoon snack (as they do in some other homestays) would be much appreciated too.
Overall a great place in Dayan!! Will definetely come back some day.
Thank you David! Hope to see you back some day 😊🙏🏻

  • It’s not hard to see why the ratings are so good at this homestay, the vibe here is relaxed and fun. David is a charismatic host, it was always fun going out for little day trips. The visibility wasn’t great for snorkelling with the mantas, but I did see one and David even grabbed my GoPro and dived down to capture some awesome footage. I was super keen to see Dugongs and after a few attempts successfully saw one as it swam away. The pricing for day trips is written up on the board per person which made it really easy to plan. The room was comfy with deck and hammock, the ensuite bathroom was so handy after a few shared bathrooms. Food here was some of the best I had for RA, with a good variety of dishes served. The staff were lovely and the young girl Laura even enjoyed swimming and practicing English / Indonesian with us. And the little girl Selmander was so smiley and adorable! A really lovely and genuine homestay. His staff and even his elderly parents waved us off from the beach when we left which was super cute. Can absolutely recommend this place.

  • David, the owner, is friendly and the homestay is managed well. The food is nice and plenty. There is a hammock on every veranda. Although it is a popular homestay you can have your privacy in hut and veranda. The house reef is moderate but they offer many trips. There are no rats on the island. I saw two kinds of eagles and other birds from my veranda and dining area and even fish eagles catching fish closeby.

  • we stayed for 3 nights and lets just say our time in Batanta was our favourite most memorable in the whole 2 weeks.

David is a lovely host with such a happy spirit for life and adventure. His also very good at music and singing so make sure you join in a tour and make sure he brings some instruments.
He took us on a day trip to piaynemo and Rufus which was such an epic day.

Safira his sister is the sweetest lady and her cooking was to be honest one of the best we experienced in Raja ampat.

the rooms were clean and NO TRACE OF RATS and spacious with a nice touch of having a hammock outside. electricity and wifi worked well in the evenings and the whole family were welcoming.

Safira is learning english and Davids english was quite good.

All in all a great stay right across the way from MANTAS! the only place in October you’re certain you will find them in the whole of raja ampat!

    • Thank you very much If we have not served you well, we apologize, and once again, thank you very much for your holiday with us.

  • We had the most wonderful stay at Snonbepur with David and his family. They are such warm, kind, and welcoming hosts — quietly giving you plenty of space, yet always right there if you need anything. Whenever we asked for more drinking water or had any small request, they immediately helped with such care and friendliness. We felt like family by the time we left 🥰

The meals were absolutely delicious, and the whole atmosphere of the place is peaceful and genuine. David’s English is excellent — he has clearly dedicated himself to learning over the past few years — and he’s a great communicator. He took us out to some of the most marvellous snorkelling spots, truly knowing all the best places. His awareness of the tides and currents gave us full confidence; he always ensured our safety, swimming alongside us when the water was a little strong and checking in to see if we had any worries before we went in.

He also suggested wonderful outings, like exploring the mangroves and visiting a local village, where we had such beautiful, joyful interactions with the children.

The whole experience was one of care, generosity, and connection with this stunning part of the world. The setting is quite simple — as is the way of the islands — with generator power for a few hours each evening and water from a tap and bucket instead of a shower. But for us, two women in our mid-fifties, this just added to the sense of adventure. We felt safe, cared for, and truly at home.

We can’t speak highly enough of David and his family — they offer something really special here.

  • My boyfriend and I stayed at Snonbepur homestay in September 2025 and it was simply incredible! The best homestay out of all that we stayed at. Would rate 11/10 if I could.

Our cabin was super clean and extremely comfortable! The cabins are brand new David and his family built them only 3 years ago, so they are in very good condition. They are spacious and include a fan, table & chairs, ensuite and a very comfortable large queen bed. We loved the ensuite it was such a luxury and very clean.

This was our first time visiting Raja Ampat so we didn’t know what to expect. We read a lot of reviews online so prepared ourselves for the worst. To our surprise there was hardly any bugs or mosquitoes, and definitely no rats that we saw.

The location was incredible it has the most beautiful house reef for snorkelling. Upon arriving it was like we were in a dream. We saw multiple pods of dolphins and so many fish, reef sharks, manta rays, seahorses and more.

The food was probably the most delicious food I’ve ever had. I would love to go back and learn how to cook their food in a cooking class. It was honestly so good!

We highly recommend doing the “Python tour” although they should probably change the name to “Blue lagoon tour” because even if pythons don’t interest you, you will be amazed by the views/scenery. You visit a secluded blue lagoon to spot pythons and it was truly magical. On the way back you can see the sunset from the boat. We loved it so much. This exceeded our expectations.

David and his family are so lovely. They are very considerate and do so much behind the scenes to make your stay special. Every morning they clean the beach of rubbish/debris and go fishing to try catch a fish for us to eat. In their spare time they play guitar and sing songs. Just such a wholesome family. Miss them already.

We will definitely be coming back.

Thank-you so much for a wonderful experience.

  • David and his beautiful family were fantastic hosts. We stayed for 4 nights in August/September. The cabins and beds were comfortable and the food was fantastic. Breakfast was more in line with the local customs and a Mandi shower did the job for our time there. The standout aside from the meals and snorkeling was being able to be included in the day to day customs of the family and a joyful sing a long to David and Jimmy on our last night. We are longtime travellers and this was well worth a visit .

  • Snonbepur Homestay is located on the small island Pulau Dayan infront of amazing Batanta. It’s a beautiful, quiet spot around Raja Ampat with amazing view on the strait and the mountains of the island. The bungalows are nicely furnished and constructed. I appreciated the bathroom and the two buckets for shower or the toilet (never seen that all over Indonesia).
The family is lovely, warm hearted and friendly and they try everything possible to please you. The food was lovely and with wide variety.
David is an amazing host and well known all over the archipelago. He loves and respects the ocean and is a very responsible guide in the sea. Especially for me as a single traveller it was great to be able to join his offers around the homestay to search mantas, dudgeons, pythons, see the traditional village or explore the amazing coral garden nearby. I highly recommend this experiences!
I’m thankful for the chance to stay there and would return any time.

  • David and his family will restore your faith in humanity for a while, they are some of the nicest people I’ve come across. Welcoming, kind, open, happy people. I feel lucky to have been able to spend time at their Homestay. Loved their open hearted hospitality. This is a genuine homestay whilst some of the places we stayed felt like more of a business.

The reef is good, it’s a much quieter spot than other places we stayed in RA. Maybe just because Batanta is quite far from Waisai, we absolutely loved it. This little island is beautiful.
The food was great and Safira made things to suit my dietary requirements.
A week after we left we had to return to Waisai to get to a doctor and David was so helpful he even organised our accommodation for us.
    Just go there!

  • We had such a magical stay with David and his family! The place is really really special.

The bungalows are located at a private beach with beautiful reef in front. You have a nice patio where you can relax and have your own en suite bathroom, which is really luxurious for Raja Ampat.

The food absolutely delicious. Always freshly made. On our trip David caught fresh fish and Safira, his sister, who is the sweetest person, roasted it on the beach.

The trips are amazing. David really knows all the secrets spots with the most gorgeous reefs, and comes with you to make the best of everything. Also, Martin the boat driver is really good and makes you feel safe!

You can tell that David and his family have a lot of love for each other and nature. This positive way of live is amazing to be around.

We saw a Kaswari, Manta, Koeskoes, dolphins and many many fish and corals.

Plastic is a problem in the whole of Indonesia and also in Raja Ampat. At certain times due to the current it comes to the beach of Snonbepur. The family works really hard every day to collect all the plastic and are very dedicated to this.

Highly recommend this very special place!!

  • Lovely homestay and family! The food was delicious and i can recommend visiting David’s reef, it was incredible. Also house reef is so beautiful and you can try flower garden which is only few minutes by boat from the homestay! So many things to see and do around. I only wish we stayed longer!

  • I stayed more days than I planned at first at this homestay, because it was so good to be there.
The location is really amazing. You have an incredible house reef all around which you can explore for hours, where you’ll see sharks, murrays, cuttlefish, lionfish and every colored fish that exists at raja Ampat. Also very close to the house (5 min by boat, so also very cheap), you can see Mantas (I saw them both times I went to this point), and have multiple other amazing snorkeling sites. Plus you are in a place very chill where no boats comes around and it’s really peacefully.
And David and it’s family are so nice, perfect hosts in my opinion.
If you search for a quiet place, with a chilling atmosphere, a nice beach and an amazing house reef and surrounding submarine world, I strongly recommend this homestay.

  • After 1 month in Raja Ampat, including Misool and diving in Gam, the 5 days I spent with David and his family were by far the best days of our trip. I had a fantastic and wholesome time. I am so grateful to have met David and his family.

There is a Manta Cleaning station around 200m from the homestay, suitable for snorkelers, as well as superb soft coral gardens. Snorkeling just outside the bungalows is also possible with one or too good spots to get in/out without harming the coral.

David really went out of his way to provide us great day trips. He was in the water with us at times, snorkeling and freediving with with enthusiasm and care. The family was very friendly and we hang out together in evening. Food was good and plentiful, including our lunch boxes during day trips.

We went jungle hiking, visited the tradicional village, went snorkeling at great spots in the open ocean and we also found the house reef very entertaining.

When I first booked and messaged David, I was a a bit worried about arranging day trips and figuring out prices, as communication is a bit difficult, but as soon as I arrived, I found all the info and prices I needed in the common area which was great. You will be able to share costs with other guests, if this is your concern.

We were very lucky to meet fantastic travellers during our stay who shared with us expectations and logistics of the day trips. Keep in mind that its best to communicate with other guests and David so that trips are seamless for all.

Please bring sun cream that is coral safe and do not step on the house reef, specially at low tide. David and the family go out of their way to collect plastic and trash that sometimes drifts to the beach but their efforts can only go that far if guests aren’t mindfull also.

Please be responsible if you choose to visit Batanta. You will not regret it.

Wishing you all the best “Snonbepur”

  • It was so magical to stay at Snonbepur Homestay, an experience we will savour!

David’s warm welcome, generosity and charisma made staying here an absolute joy! His family worked hard to create delicious and varied food each day and maintain the comfortable homestay. We strongly recommend staying here for a true Papuan homestay experience, full of laughter!

The house reef is excellent and there are lots of excursions offered for very reasonable prices – we were lucky and managed to see mantas and dugong whilst snorkelling literally less than five minutes away by boat from Snonbepur! David’s knowledge and passion for the marine life made our excursions all the more fun – David was just as excited to see manta as we were even though he sees them all the time!

Injo nabor David, Papua, Tinus, your parents, wife, sisters and everyone who made our stay comfortable, welcoming and fun. We hope to return one day!

  • Amazing snorkeling just off the beach to the left of the huts.
Mantas and soft coral very close by boat at minimal extra cost
Good day trips to see birds, waterfalls, snorkeling etc
David the host and his family are friendly and knowledgeable.
Simple, clean huts with 3 nice meals a day.
    Electricity and internet available 18.00-24.00

  • Snonbepur was our fourth and final stop on our Raja Ampat trip. We stayed 3 nights which was more than enough for this area. The rooms were spacious and comfortable with an en suite bathroom (toilet/bucket shower) and a hammock on our porch. Simple home cooked meals for lunch and dinner, pastries for breakfast and snack. Very weak network signal, but wifi is available when the electricity is on in the evenings (and some afternoons). Excellent house reef to the left of the property where we saw a colossal puffer fish and lion fish! After staying in smaller homestays / more remote areas of RA, Snonbepur seemed very busy and overly social which some people might like (we prefer quieter, less social atmospheres). The property only has one boat which means when David is away, you are stuck at the homestay. We were lucky as David was available for early morning outings to potentially see Dugongs and Mantas during our stay. He also arranged our transfer back to Sorong which we were able to do directly from the homestay (without needing to go through Waisai). Overall, a pleasant stay.

    • Thank you very much we hope you both come back again and thank you very much for your suggestions my brothers

  • Highly recommend!!

We stayed 4 days at Snonbepur homestay. With David and his lovely family. What a beautiful environment and a really beautiful large house reef. The colours of the coral and the fish… wow.
You can expect nothing less than hospitality from David and his family.
I had an accident during my stay and David did everything he could to help me and took me to a local hospital where a nurse helped me very well. Nothing but praise for all the people in the small hospital and the homestay.

  • David and his family offer their humble smiles and open hearts to everyone who visits them. Unlike any other Homestay I visited in raja ampat, the love and care that you feel here with them creates an unforgettable experience. From the numerous interesting trips he offers to waterfalls, magical reefs, lagoons, rivers, and caves, the opportunity to commune with nature and its creatures extends into worlds that are almost impossible to imagine. Guests should come prepared to set aside their expectations, and be amazed at a beauty that is unparalleled. Punctuality, planning and organization are growing pains in culture so connected to the sea and the natural rhythms, so one must be patient if things don’t always go as planned. However the smile on the hearts of the people here make up for it. You feel it in the food, in the music and in every moment here at Snonbepur. Please do visit the flower garden and manta point close by, as well as David and Urun reef and the second mangrove waterfall.

  • First, my opinion of this place. I’ve been to Raja Ampat several times and believe I’ve gained a good impression of the area and its people. What makes this place very special is the honest and friendly nature of the entire family towards tourists. I’ve often experienced homestays where I encountered great indifference, where it was only about having a homestay to receive money. This is completely different at the Snonbepur Homestay. David is, of course, a very important contact person, as his English is very good, but the rest of the family also makes a great effort to treat everyone in a friendly and helpful manner. I would especially like to mention Safira, who cooks very well and is always up for a joke, and she also happily does the laundry. Why not use the Teanslation app? David is, of course, an inspiring personality, knows how to charm people, is a free diver, bird caller, and a good musician. Of course, he can’t always be there, as his wife and son live in Waisai, and this should be more than understandable. Internet: The internet is very slow, really only for essentials. For important things like booking flights, I recommend the islands of Arborek and Kri. Accommodation: As many haven’t mentioned: There are three new bungalows, which are very nice, two more that are quite good, and two or three older ones that I don’t think are worth the price. However, they all have en-suite bathrooms. David is currently improving the lighting in all the bathrooms; otherwise, use your flashlight until then. When I arrived, there was only a single hammock; none of the other accommodations had any. They should now be available in every bungalow, or David will first look into hanging options in the older rooms. Manta rays and reef: The probability is not 100% as previously mentioned, but it is very high at 90%. Of course, the season, currents, and time of day must be taken into account. I’m very glad that liveaboards can no longer go there as they used to. Now you can experience the manta rays undisturbed. (6-8 people in the water) Recommendation: book accommodation on Dyan Island to see these animals a second time, and at the right time of day. The house reef: to the left there are some very beautiful soft corals near the last round rock. As you should know, there are only a few of these left in all of RA. Flower Garden or also called Secred Garden: just around the corner from the manta rays: very worthwhile and beautiful, strong current, highly recommended. Prices: David sometimes charges enough for long trips, sometimes he is modest with his prices. I believe that he is heavily influenced by good white friends who try to squeeze the most money out of everyone in his absence. By this I mean my experience in March 2025. David would never do this because he knows that they are here for the manta rays and not for spots between Batanta and Kri. To see the Mantas: costs around 150’000.- Nonetheless,
They are always recommended Davids Place. I really liked David’s Place, but you can also find similar places in Kape Mansuar or near Kri—you don’t have to take a 40-minute boat ride. Bottom line: if I were to come to RA five times, I would go back there in a heartbeat.

    • Thank you very much Mrs. Patricia, we hope you will come back to us again and once again for your good review.

  • This homestay is located in one of the most beautiful spot, looking out from your bungalow porch, to the right, sunset in many hues onto different shapes of clouds above the hills every evening. to the left, layers of distant hills above the waterlines. The house reef is healthy and home to many fish species big and small. I saw manta, bumphead parrotfish, sharks, anemone crown fish, barracuda, bat fish, just to name a few. A manta cleaning station is 5 minutes boat ride, a fantastic spot to snorkel/free dive with mantas. A close by reef called flower garden, gorgeous healthy corals and lot of fish. But most special is a small swim through crevice next to the beach, about 20 meter long, fits one person at a time, waterline is a meter or less from top of the most beautiful soft corals. I joined a full day snorkeling and python lagoon tour, it was fantastic, we saw no python, not even a bird in the lagoon, but felt like you entered Jurassic park. We went to two reefs (David’s reef or Goliath for the size of it), they were the most beautiful reefs, I dove all around Raja Ampat on liveaboard Lady Denok, have seen lots of deeper corals, for shallow reefs, these are simply gorgeous. We had lunch on an uninhabited island and walked on a sandbar in the middle of open ocean. The water was crystal clear, on a sunny day, colored from turquoise to dark blue. You almost feel like in a movie set or fairytale land. David is a good host, but he wasn’t as available, two German backpackers working for room and board were serving us of 5 guests. Without David, customer service was unauthentic. Trip pricing was confusing to say the least, two helpers kept saying old prices were so cheap, now we are going to do it right…. David was giving one price I felt more reasonable, the last thing guests want to see/experience is aggressive pricing by greedy western capitalistic approaches, which was how I and other guests felt. David and his family are intelligent, deserving to develop at their own pace with pride and maintaining their integrity, rather than corrupted by outside influences of making a quick buck. One night, David and Isaak sang in Bahari and played his guitar at his sister’s daughter birthday, I was invited and was deeply touched by their close knit family, love and optimism, living a very basic lifestyle and facing challenges of modernity (money, trash comes with the tides, material, all the good and bad). Everyone was so kind and friendly, Isaak was always there to take care of our boat rides, he knew the local wealth better than any App on your phone, Savira cooks the best meals, sometimes low on supplies she still made a good meal out of eggs and vegetables. I enjoyed my 9 days there greatly and would highly recommend it.

  • Previously I stayed in the bungalow next door and found Snonbepur is more beautiful. Here is my review:
*Room is clean, spacious, with private bathroom, large comfortable bed.
    * Free Wifi (available mostly from 6pm to 12am but sometimes Wifi is available during the day too) The Wifi signal is very strong in the dining area.
*The beach in front of the accommodation is clean because David ordered the staff to clean the beach every morning. On the other beach, which you have to walk through the jungle, is a white sand beach, beautiful like heaven. I was so amazed by the beauty of the beach when I saw it. And at heavenly beach, there is a 4G mobile phone signal.
*The food is very delicious and varied, the menu is almost never repeated.
*David and all the family are very friendly. I felt warm, safe and well taken care of. *There is a very beautiful house reef with a variety of corals, beautiful soft corals, hard corals, turtles and many fish.
*There is a Manta Ray point nearby and 100% guarantee of seeing Manta Ray.
*There is probably the most beautiful soft coral viewing point in Raja Ampat called “flower garden”near Homestay
*There are many interesting and varied one day trip tours such as coral viewing tour at Urun island which is considered one of the most beautiful coral reefs in RA.
*The boat fare to pick up and drop off is cheaper than the next door Homestay.
*David is an excellent free diver, he can take beautiful photos and videos of Manta and coral.David is a kind, funny, cheerful person who is ready to do everything to make his guests happy. He sings and plays the guitar very well.
*In the neighboring homestay, which is within 2 minutes walk. There is a dive shop where you can go diving.

I have talked to other travelers who have visited many islands in Raja Ampat and they decided to come back to Snonbepur again. They said here is the best place to stay in Raja Ampat. Many people extend their stay to stay longer in this paradise.

  • Terimah Kasih David and his Family for a wunderful stay at one of the topends of the world. Great snorkeling at the housereef and superb snorkeling at Floral Garden and the Manta cleaningstation (15 Minutes by boat from Snonbepur). Another superb snorkeltrip is that to Urun amd David Reef (1 hour by boat). And – since some years of abstinence – there were seen some dugongs in the bay (allthough we haven’t seen). And the nearby pearlfarm is also worth the visit. But the best was the warm welcome of David and his Family, the nice food … and the reliable communication. Hope to see you again and keep the secrets of Batanta and Snonbepur tidy!

  • I really enjoyed my stay at Snonbepur. As everyone agrees, David and his entire family are exceptionally delightful, and serve the best meals I’ve had over multiple trips to RA. David offers a great variety of trips and has really good boat prices. He is working hard to upgrade all his bungalows, electric supply and wi-fi via Starlink, and I found my VIP room to be very comfortable. Great place!

    • Thank you very much you will improve this feature thank you for your review we will improve all 🙏

  • We stayed 5 nights at Snonbepur and could easily stay much longer. The VIP bungalow was very spacious and comfortable with its own ensuite bathroom. During our stay all the bungalows got raised beds. We had a hammock and a bean bag on our terrace. Food is served in common dining room with great view over the water. We saw a jumping manta just in front of the homestay while chilling there. The food is absolutely delicious and plantiful and always different. There is water, coffee and tea available all day long. On the evening both electricity and wifi is supplied. David is lovely and speaks english. He had plenty of recommendations for trips and we were doing something new almost every day. Snorkeling in fron of homestay is great, manta point is 200m away and flower garden just around the corner. We saw the healthiest and most beautiful coral in our life just around the island. Batanta has so much to offer with lush nature, phytons, cassowaries and waterfalls that ypu never run out of things to do. It was an honor to be able to stay with Davids family and witness their daily life as well as listen to them play music and sing. This is a true gem.

  • Convenient spot to access Manta Cleaning station, Flower Garden Coral, and the south side of the channel. Snorkelling was excellent, food was great, but as in a lot of Homestays, sweet baked goods in the morning are not a great way to start the day. The accommodations are being upgraded, which is good. We had a hut with a shared bathroom. The bathroom was dark and rudimentary.
The staff were excellent, but as Alex pointed out, David was not there much and he was the only one that spoke English.

  • We spent four weeks in Raja Ampat in five different homestays (Mansuar, Gam, West Waigeo, Batanta). On this basis I give my feedback. The VIP bungalows are good: big, clean, nice terrace. The bathrooms need light, the terrace needs a detail for chilling out: a bean bag or a hammock. The house reef is already pretty worn out. There is a Manta Point 5 minutes away with almost a Manta guarantee. The reef on the opposite side is world class. David is super friendly. He likes to take you to his snorkeling spots, which are usually far away. Unfortunately, David couldn’t give any snorkeling recommendations in the immediate vicinity of the homestay. We stayed with David for 7 days. He was away most of the time, so we were only able to make a few arrangements with him. We wanted David to be more reliable with the agreed departure times to the snorkeling spots. His family is knowledgable and approachable and very friendly. Food was great. With the great reef on the opposite side, we were able to really enjoy our time on Snonbepur.

  • In total we were 6 weeks on 6 different islands and 9 different accommodations.
Great, new, large bungalows with their own shower, toilet and large sun/shade terrace. Unfortunately no water pressure. Bed and mosquito net good. Food varied and delicious. Manta Point 200 meters away, large manta rays, easy to see for snorkelers, flower garden and reef opposite very colorful and great variety of corals. With the help of two guys from Germany, David was in the process of setting prices for tours and improving “little things” in the bungalows and in the overall organization. Starlink wifi available in the evening. Everything was really clean. David was away for three days due to engine problems, communication with family difficult because they don’t speak English. Offline translator helps. Many thanks to David, Safira and the family. All very nice. We would stay here again anytime.

  • I traveled solo but was lucky enough to meet David and his family, and lovely guests. Nature around David’s place is wonderful, you get to see mantas, lots of fish, sharks, dolphins, turtles, pythons, birds etc. You can easily just go snorkeling every day at the reef in front of the house and it will be good enough! No trips needed. There was enough food and it’s suitable for vegetarian diet as well. There was internet and electricity for several hours every day as well as running water. I felt very happy and welcome at the homestay. I do hope to come back one day!

  • We stayed with David from Nov 24 to Dec 2, 2023, and I thought we had left a review then but it seems not to have gone through as we don’t see it now!
We had such a wonderful stay at Snonbepur and loved the wonderful hospitality, many smiles, amazing snorkelling, and companionship of David and his family! They were amazing hosts and David was a phenomenal guide for snorkelling, hiking to waterfalls, and exploring his home islands underwater and on land! We loved David playing his homemade banjo and singing on our daily outings. The coral, fish and invertebrate life on the home reef in front of the homestay was phenomenal and really the best out of all the homestays we visited.
We very much appreciated David’s priority and respect for taking care of his place and home reef, and being very conservation-minded. The family removed garbage brought up by the tide each day and he was regularly removing plastic and other debris in the water when we went snorkelling. He was very respectful of the manta rays and coral reef communities where we snorkelled and he asked the same of his guests.
At the time, there were only the 4 single cabins with a shared bathroom that was kept clean. Food was local and good with sufficient food for all of us who were there at the same time. A few hours of power from the generator was enough to keep phones and camera batteries charged.
We hope this finds David and his family very well! We often think fondly of all the memories and adventures from our stay with them.

  • I highly recommend this homestay. Everyone is very friendly and do their best to take care of every need. The snorkeling trips were reasonably priced. I had the insuite bathroom. The pillow-top mattress in my bungalow was very comfortable.
Best of all is the staff, starting with David the owner. Safira the cook is true Joy, as well as tinus and Calvin the two young men with the beautiful smiles. Isak speeks English well and he was a great snorkeling guide and a very good bahasa indonesia guru.
I highly recommend staying here. Enjoy..

  • I stayed with David for 4 days in the end of November and had the best time ever. The food was spectacular as was the marine life. I saw mantas, wobbegong shark, eagle ray, bumphead parrot fish, corals, pipefish, scorpionfish and many other fish species. I didn’t see the python at the lagoon but instead saw a couscous! David also took us one day to David’s reef (Mansfield Eilanden) which was spectacular with corals for hours of snorkelling it was crazy. I know David also offers Cassowary tours and saw them with my friends, alongside going to the pearl farm nearby and you can even buy pearls there.

I felt super cared for, and even was privileged enough to go with David to his home village (Yensawai) to see him vote in the local election which happens every 10 years! Was made to feel super welcomed and cared for. He is such a happy man of life.

Manta point was a bargain just 100k per person for magical encounters with many mantas. I also saw fluorescing phytoplankton by my hut! You must visit as you could spend a week here easily and still not complete everything to do!

Connection was limited with you needing to go for a walk to the beach nearby to get 4G, do remember to go to dinner/tell David if your calling someone at dinner time as I may have forgotten one night and had the whole homestay looking for me

  • David and his family were fantastic. Where we often found interactions with the families difficult at other homestays, David speaks English very well and takes an interest in his guests getting to know them and help give them a good time.

The bungalow was very nice with a private bathroom, toilet and a square mosquito net. And the view on the bay was amazing. We even saw a black cockatoo behind our cabin.
The food was very good and more than enough.

Unfortunately we couldn’t do any of the tours or snorkelling trips because of a serious wound infection, but David helped us getting back to Waisai/Sorting even carrying my bags.

  • If you want to swim with manta rays, this is the place to be. But this homestay has so much more to offer. New, clean huts, great food, fantastic views, a variety of trips in the area and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. The bay is mesmerizingly beautiful and snorkeling in the calm waters is a pleasure. And most importantly: David and his family are very cheerful, sweet people, who are happy to be of service to you. You won’t regret going ashore here.

For us, this was the number 1 homestay in Raja Ampat.

  • Super nice family. David is super host and speaks reasonably good english. The food in the homestay was amazing.
The place is total different then other islands. You can really feel remotnes and a lot more of wildlife.
There sre sharks swimming every evening infront of the dining area and mantas are just infront of the homestay.
I recommend doing trips with them, like python and mangroove trip and casuari trip.
There is also a dive shop just next to the homestay if you wanna dive.

Corals are also super nice around the area.

  • The house stay is amazing for many reasons. Firstly, Batanta is a nice place to stay. It is quiet and there are lots of things to do unlike other islands. Manta Point is just a 5 minute boat ride away, I saw mantas every day, if you are lucky you can also see dugongs. There are tours to waterfalls, to see exotic birds and pythons in a beautiful lagoon and river.
David, the owner, and his family were great. The food was super tasty and plentiful. David is a very good free diver so he took amazing videos of me with the mantas (I had my own GoPro). He also showed us the coconut crab.
The stars at night are crazy and on the beach you can see the bioluminescence, slightly but
    it was cool.

  • This homestay is great and David and his family are great!

The rooms are big and clean, with a comfy large bed. They’re well maintained and the bathrooms were also clean and large.

The new dining room is a special place right at the water where you can go to socialize and plan your days. The food was good with plenty enough variety for me.

David is super accommodating and he wants to make everyone happy! On each boat or snorkel trip, he did such a good job of making sure we had fun, saw interesting things, were safe, and were respectful of the marine life. I loved how he gave us a small lesson before seeing the mantas, on how to see them without disturbing or scaring them away.

The mantas were 2 minutes away by boat and I got to see them 3 different days! It was amazing. The other trips were great too – village (very special with all the lovely people from the village), lagoon, jungle river, and more. There is some really great snorkeling in this direct area.

Everyone from the homestay was so sweet. David’s wife (I’m sorry i didn’t get your name) was fun and kind. Sefira was so cute and always had a smile to brighten your day.

Thank you all for sharing your homestay with me 🙂

    • I also wanted to mention Izaac and Tinos who were always helping with the many boat trips and making sure we all got to do the things we wanted, thank you!

  • Our first stop in Raja and a truly amazing experience. David is the sweetest guy and goes above and beyond to make you feel at home and experience the wonders of this area. Bungalows are nice (some with ensuite and 1 even with a fan back in Nov 24) and the bathrooms are very clean. Food was superb, his sister is a great cook. Dining area is a great spot to come together with fellow travelers. Snorkeling trips were incredible (don’t miss out on Coral and Flower garden). Manta spot is just a 2 minutes boat ride away. Very fair pricing for trips. House reef is nice. No/patchy internet (but no need when being in paradise). Would definitely come back!

  • Thank you David, for the wonderful days I spent in Snon Bepur.
Your place is wonderful, the bungalow very comfortable and the toilet and showers very clean.
The reefs in front the homestay are beautiful, only go out of your bungalow and start to snorkel. You will see a lot!
We did a lot of tours, I saw the giant Mantas 3 times!, we snorkeled around flower garden, corallgarden, we went into the mangroves, where we saw also python🤩
    So beautiful.
I loved the family, they are so kind and open, and give me a very warm welcome.
Last night we were singing together ( they are very good singers, David even played the fluit) .
I love and miss you all

  • DAVID! That would be enough for a seven million-star review. What a character — a bundle of energy with immense knowledge of and respect for the ocean. And an incredible freediver. The accommodation is simple but clean and peaceful. The new dining room is amazing! And the use of washed-up corals as flooring in the toilets genius. We went on wonderful trips — saw mantas, a python and beautiful reefs. The mangrove trip was a highlight! The boat goes through tunnels and waterways that open up in a magnificent jungle-fringed lagoon. Oh, and the food is excellent!!!!! Highly recommended!

• I had a great time at Snonbepur. With David’s sparkling personality and enthusiasm as well as his ukulele and singing skills, there is always a happy vibe. His tours are comprehensive of both the sea life especially mantas and the jungle so his guests have the opportunity to experience it all.
The meals were very good and always served with a smile by his sister, Safira.
A very special place that I highly recommend.
Thanks so much, David and family for a memorable visit.

  • We had a lovely few days at Snonbepur, wish we could have stayed longer. Such a beautiful place, with great snorkelling on the house reef. David and Isaac took us on a fantastic tour of snorkelling highlights (mantas and beautiful coral) and a couple of villages. Food was excellent, including possibly the best fish I have ever eaten. Thankyou David and family for your hospitality, I hope we can visit again some day.

  • We had an excellent stay with David and his family. The food was amazing- including the most delicious BBQ’d freshly caught fish. We saw mantas, excellent varied reefs, had lunch on our own sand island, visited a village and even had time to relax in the hammocks. Such a beautiful homestay. Thankyou

  • We had our first experience at Batanta and stayed with David and his sweet family at Snonbepur. His location is excellent being on Dayan Island because the house reef there is magnificent, very varied with wall, nudies, turtles, sharks, soft and hard coral and very easy access from beach with safe current. The rooms where well equipped, good nets, hammock, comfortable bed and clean. David’s sister prepared us good food, plenty and fruit. They accommodate my special diet.
Every night David spent time with us discussing birds and checking our needs. We will return!!!!

  • I really enjoyed my time at this homestay. The reef around the island are AMAZING. I saw a wide variety of marine life (mantas, turtles, reef sharks, huge cuttlefish, stonefish, stingrays, etc.). It truly is paradise!
This was my first homestay in Raja Ampat, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. My biggest worry was having enough to eat as I knew that there are no shops or restaurants nearby. However, that was never an issue. The food was ALWAYS plentiful and mostly good. Jerry (the caregiver while David is away) was very helpful and even let me borrow his mask while I was there as mine had a leak.
David (the owner) arrived on my second to last day and took me over to his village, which is definitely worth a visit! It started pouring rain after we got there, so he asked some of his family members to play some music for me while we waited for clearer skies, which was a real treat! It’s not everyday you get a personal concert of traditional Papuan music. The boat ride back home was a little terrifying due to the storm, but seeing all of the bioluminescence lighting up around the boat made it all better 🙂
Overall, I had a great time at Snonbepur Homestay and would definitely recommend it.

  • We really had the best time in Snonbepur homestay thanks to David and his friendly family. David is pure gold !! He is the funniest, sweetest and most kindhearted host and he takes time to care for his guests. His enthusiasm and his singing are priceless and worth a visit 😉 The bungalows are fine with a hammock, and the food is tasty and generous.
The coral there is well-preserved and we saw lots of fish and animales right in front of the homestay (our very first turtles, morays, walking sharks, reef sharks and of course mantas). There’s a manta cleaning station close by where you can see some huge mantas, as well as lots of nice snorkeling spots with colourful corals you can go to in a day tour with mangroves and waterfalls walk and the village. We also bought some pearls at the pearl farm and went to some snorkeling spots around (secret garden for example). David always came with us, including in the water, and made every tour an opportunity for joy ! You can go there in total confidence !

  • I spent 4 nights in Snonbepur Homestay and I really enjoyed the time. The homestay is beautifully located. My bungalow was clean, spacious and comfortable. The view was stunning, especially during sunset. In front there are two cleaning stations of manta rays. The corals are healthy and beautiful. I can recommend the tours offered by this homestay. The snorkeling tour was amazing! I did also a tour to the traditional village Yennyar, mangrove garden and pearl farm, I enjoyed a lot. David and his family are very welcoming and friendly. It was a pleasure to stay there.
I arranged diving with the homestay in front (Batanta Diving Homestay), to watch the manta rays. I felt very safe and comfortable with the dive guide and it was an extraordinary experience.

  • We had a great 4 night stay.
the bungalow terrace is spacious, the food is good and it’s clean 🙂
The snokerling in front is magnificent.
We went out twice to see the mantas and each time it was great. David comes into the water for boat trips, it’s really cool!
Every time we took the boat we saw dolphins! 🐬
We also visited the pearl farm, it was very interesting.
At night when the sea is low we see lots of fluorescent plankton, it’s magnificent!
David is really nice and he does everything to make you feel good!
His family is very nice too.
We will come back for sure!

  • Snonbepur is a really beautiful place! This was for us the best homestay in Raja Ampat. David and Yvonne and the rest of the family are really nice, caring people
We felt so much at home. The huts are simple but well maintained. The food is delicious. The reef is gorgeous. Manta’s two minutes away from the homestay. David took us on a trip to the waterfalls and he is an excellent guide. I can only recommend this place !

  • Snonbepur is a very special and basic homestay. So calm, peaceful and relaxing.
David and his family are very friendly and welcoming people, that will do whatever to make your stay as good as possible.
The food is good, and you can join them in the daily fishing trip, to catch the dinner.

The house reef is quite nice, with lots of soft corrals that sways in the strong current. The visibility changes with tide.

Manta, Manta, Manta. Just off the homestay, we snorkel with Mantas in the mornings.
Rest of the time We spend snorkeling, relaxing in the hammock og on some of the trips that David offers.

  • We would like to thank to David and his family for perfect stay in Snonbepur. Everything was simply perfect. Healthy housereef, clean pretty bungallow, smiling friendly people from Snonbepur who want you feel happy there. David took very good care about us, the trip was nice, especialy we liked traditional village with kids overthere. David also takes good care about nature, he picked up garbagge from the sea as well. Thank you and hope one day we hope will come back.

  • So disappointing! Booked over a month in advance and then they told me they had overbooked only one day before I arrived. So perhaps a risky place to book?

Glad I booked through the homestay association, who organised a stay at the very welcoming and lovely Marwens as an alternative.

  • We greatly enjoyed the stay with David and his family, who all took very good care of us. The accommodation is basic yet very clean, the food is excellent and very tasty, and the house reef is great. There is a manta point only a short ride away. A palm kakadoo is a regular guest and you can also find coconut crabs on Dayan island. In contrast to the description above, David speaks English quite well. For internet connection, one needs to walk a few minutes along the beach to the restaurant of the Dayan Homestay.

  • My partner and I stayed at Snonbepur for 3 nights at the beginning of August. We partially chose this homestay because we read such good things about the homestay owners and Davids tours so we were a bit disappointed to find out upon arrival that the owners wouldn’t be present during our stay.
However, Jerry and his family took over with Davids parents and they did a great job as well! They had a lovely daughter and Jerry’s wife cooked great food, always plentiful and varied. Jerry caught fresh fish himself for every dinner and he took us on various trips. We went to a traditonal village, to the mangroves and we did multiple snorkling trips where we saw manta’s, turtles, wobbegongs and various other shark species, squids and much more: the area in between Dayan and Batanta has the biggest diversity of marinelife we’ve encountered so far. The house reef is in very good condition with healthy coral and it felt special to have the reef all to ourselves as we were the only tourists on the island.

The homestay was very nicely decorated, the huts were spacious with a nice balcony and the toilet and shower cabins were neat and clean. We had a very good time!

  • My wife and I stayed nine days at Snonbepur Homestay in July 2023. Fantastic hosts, delicious food, beautiful views and amazing snorkeling. Top corals and wildlife right off the beach. We highly recommend this homestay. Injo nabor!

  • I stayed at Snonbepur homestay in June of this year for one week. It was a wonderful experience. Of the four islands that I visited I would say that the coral reef on Pulau Dayan was the most varied and in the best condition. The coral reef which was easily accessible was teeming with life. The variety of coral seemed never-ending and after a week of snorkelling the reef I was still spellbound by the richness and variety of this house reef.
Our host David, at Snonbepur homestay is a gracious, gentle and kind person. David along with his wife Yvonne made us feel very welcome. We had the privilege of staying with him and three generations of his family, including siblings and his older parents. They were all delightful and we enjoyed the family atmosphere of this homestay. David was continually smiling and was helpful and considerate with everything. It was easy to arrange short boat trips with David in the area around Pulau Dayan and he accompanied us on snorkel adventures to point out things we may have missed.
The huts were right on the beach and the reef was only metres away. The accommodation was comfortable with verandas facing the water. The food which was lovingly provided by Yvonne and her helpers was abundant and delicious. We felt very well looked after.
The phone signal at Snonbepur was fairly weak, however a short walk down the beach and to the other side of the island 10 minutes away provided a good connection to the outside world.
As with many places in Raja Ampat it is wise to be prepared for mosquitoes on still evenings.
If you’re looking for a wonderful snorkelling experience and staying with a gracious, kind family then Snonbepur homestay is the place for you.

  • We stayed at Snonbepur in the last week of May. Despite the beginning of Southern wind season, we had a blast. Here are some highlights:

House reef: the highest in marine biodiversity we have witnessed so far, that just by walking 10 steps from the beach bungalow. It was also accessible anytime, because the island is protected in the inside of the bay. Koen even snorkeled at night, accompanied by David.

Hospitality: the family is lovely and always smiling. David is the front man; an enthusiastic young man who is eager to share the beautiful nature and wildlife with you. Ivon, David’s wife, was very hospitable and is an amazing cook, never served us the same dish during our five-day stay. We also requested local traditional dishes, and she delivered with yummy sago pancakes. David’s parents are also part of the crew, and the cute baby Nico.

Communications: We speak Indonesian, so there was no problem in communications. We loved chatting with David and the family. However, their English is quite limited.

Accomodation: the beach bungalow was cute and rustic. Almost all furnitures are built by David and his family. One of the bungalow has a hammock installed, which was chill. The shared toilet and bathroom is clean.

Trips: David offers several tours with good rates, of which we managed to do the manta/dugong point across the house reef, and the mangrove garden which was 30min boat ride away. Both tours were amazing, especially the mangrove garden was magical with mangrove route ending in a lagoon full of birds. We are really curious about the other spots, but unfortunately the wind was too strong to make those trips.

    We hope to come back!
    Injo Nabor!

  • We stayed at Snonbepur one week in April and we can only say that it is an extraordinary homestay – and we have stayed at many homestays in Raja Ampat so far.
There are three huts right on the beach, which is kept very clean. Here a family of three generations – the newly born Niko is the youngest member – is living and working together.
The hosts, David and Ivon, are very welcoming and extremely friendly and they do take the word ‚service‘ really seriuosly. They tried to fulfil our wishes at any time – always with a smile. Ivon is an outstanding cook who loves to prepare excellent and tasty meals. During our stay she never offered the same food twice and always decorated it nicely. In her garden she grows some vegetables and fruit, which is served fresh.
David offers interesting tours and snorkeling trips , e.g to the nearby manta point and the dugongs. He accompanies you in the water and draws your attention to marine animals you wouldn’t normally notice like small nudibranches. You can also go to a waterfall, a traditional village and other reefs.
The reef in front of the homestay is stunning and offers a great variety of corals and fish. It is possible to go snorkeling at any time whether high tide or low tide. There are no strong currents so that you can always feel safe.
The signal is not very good, but David allows you to join his Wifi and if you walk 5 minutes to the big verandah of Dayan Homestay nearby, you normally have a really good connection there.
Snonbepur can only be recommended. If we come back to Raja Ampat – hopefully next year – we will definitely stay at this place again and are already looking forward to meeting David, Ivon, Niko and grandpa and grandma, not to forget the well-behaved dog Tarzan.
Terima kasih banyak atas semua! Injo nabor! Sampai jumpa lagi!

  • David and Ivon provided the experience of a lifetime! These have been some of the most memorable days of our lives.

Overall Snonbepur Homestay provides a laidback, family friendly atmosphere. You might occasionally hear some lovely singing. A happy family of three generations preserving and generously sharing a slice of paradise.

We were told by other visitors that this house reef was the best they had seen in all of Raja Ampat. It is like being in an infinite aquarium, so intricate that you can spend an hour snorkelling a relatively small area because there is just so much to see! Mantas visited house reef while we were there and a dugong was also sighted one morning by a fellow snorkellor.

David is super relaxed and accomodating – he took us to spots and islands that other locals are unaware of. Pristine, untouched gems! Must do his three spot day trip.. it was our holiday highlight and the best reef we will likely ever see in our lifetime.

We got so much more out of each adventure as David would come snorkelling with us when we ventured beyond house reef – we love that he shares the same passion and enthusiasm for nature, animals and the ocean.

Nearby David and his father can take you to swim with Mantas and Dugongs. David is also happy to have you accompany him on fishing trips to catch large tuna.

We were so impressed by Ivon’s hospitality. Over 6 days she never cooked the same meal twice, always something new and delicious to try. Plenty of fresh fish at lunch and dinner, plated alongside fresh vegetables and fruits grown on their land. Every meal was healthy, fresh and delicious.

The cabin is simple, clean and comfortable (ocean breeze cools you at night). We managed to avoid mosquitos for the most part. We cherished laying in the hammock admiring the reef in day or Milky Way at night.

  • We stayed in Snonbepur Homestay for 4 nights, March 2023. Just after arrival from Manyaifun we had a tropical downpour, which seemed to invite five manta’s to start feeding and frolicking around just in front of the bungalows. This was a very promising start of our stay! Ours was the newest bungalow of the three bungalows on the beach, and very pretty. The shared kamar mandi and kamar kecil were clean and practical. The house reef was very beautiful, easy to navigate when you go in where the boats go in, and lots of colourful fish, we especially liked the small boxfish (dark blue, golden yellow, copper etc.). There is only one boat, so when there is a Wasai drop off, there is no boat for other trips, but the house reef was interesting enough.

The next day we went to see the manta’s on the other side of the bay, near the little island with David a 5 minute boat ride away. David is a very enthousiastic and experienced guide! We went in, and the manta’s seemed to be everywhere! Apparently there were some 15 manta’s going in circles with us in between. This was an incredible mindblowing experience, with a manta swimming next to you, another in front, and another below, in their dreamlike fashion. This experience was the highlight of our stay in Raja Ampat this time. The next day we went again, but this time we were not so lucky, there were “only” five manta’s further away or further down, which made us also happy. The mangrove trip with David and Willy was also very nice to do, although we didn’t see a lot of birds. But David can make incredible bird-sounds!

The food was delicious and plentiful, with something small and sweet in de the morning and around 5, and lunch and dinner with mostly fish, (homegrown) vegetables, and rice, sometimes tempeh, or egg. And papaya as a desert. The family is very kind and helpful. The only downside of this beautiful place, is that more people come to visit, also some liveaboards with groups of divers or snorkelers, near the manta point or along the house reef.

David, Willy and family, thanks for a wonderful stay, the lovely food and an amazing manta experience.
    Injo nabor!

  • We stayed in Snonbepur Homestay for 4 nights, March 2023. • David’s place was the best homestay we stayed in Raja Ampat.
    1. David and his family are so helpful, kind and smiling.
    2. House reef is clean, health and breathtaking, you may see a lot of fish, turtles, we saw even mantas close to our hut.
    3. Food is good, we were always full. Lunch and dinner were delicious. My kind advice: probably you may serve eggs our something salty on breakfast, not only serve a sweet breakfast.
    4. Hut was clean
    5. David can make trips to manta point, mangrove garden (we really enjoy this trip), to other islands and waterfalls in the area
Highly recommended for everyone. One day I wish I will come back
