Saukabu Homestay offers five bungalows on Pulau Pam’s northern shore
- Three VIP bungalows on land, and
- Two VIP bungalows on the beach
VIP bungalows have ensuite bathrooms, and all sleep two on raised beds. Sheets, pillows, bolsters and mosquito nets supplied. All bungalows have covered verandahs with ocean views and a table and chairs and bedrooms are fitted with light switches and power outlets.
Meals are served in a beachside dining room where drinking water, tea and coffee are always freely available to guests.
Electricity is from Saukabu village supply, and is usually available from 6pm to 6am. Saukabu Homestay receives a good phone signal that supports a data connection.
Saukabu Homestay is a short walk away from Saukabu village. Basic supplies of the kind used by local people can be purchased from small home kiosks in Saukabu, but it’s wise to bring anything you regard as essential with you.
English is spoken at Saukabu Homestay.
Saukabu (like everywhere else in Raja Ampat) has no way to safely dispose of or recycle inorganic waste, so please do take any you create away with you to eliminate the chance of it eventually winding up in the ocean.
Coconut crabs: This protected species is unfortunately hunted and sold at some places in Raja Ampat. Please don’t buy any. Saukabu Homestay will refuse to cook them for you and will insist you release them instead.
Transport / Getting there
Transfers between Waisai and Saukabu Homestay can be provided by speedboat or longboat. You will need to contact Saukabu if you want to specify a preference. (Contact details are provided in booking confirmation emails.)
Prices below are the trip price for a one way transfer. The price is shared by passengers.
Speedboat: IDR 3,500,000. Maximum of 4 passengers
Longboat: IDR 2,500,000. Maximum of 4 passengers.

Public Boat to the Fam Islands
If you have plenty of time, you don’t mind a bit of discomfort, and you want spend as little as possible on transport costs, then there are cargo boats that you can use to get to the Fam Islands. (Obviously, if you are going to arrive on the cargo boat, then you don’t need to request a Waisai pickup when submitting the booking form above.)
Here’s what you need to know about getting the cargo boat to Fam.
Activities
There's great snorkelling over coral out front of the homestay and low tide provides the opportunity for long beach walks.
Saukabu Homestay can arrange tours to all the famous snorkelling sites and attractions around Pam and Piaynemo. (Pam and Piaynemo are the proper local names of the islands often marked on maps as Fam and Penemu.)
See Saukabu's October 2025 pricelist for costs of some popular options.
Spectacular karst island panoramas like those of Wayag are available at Piaynemo. Combine a Piaynemo visit with a snorkelling stop at nearby Rufas Island or at the famed reefs of Melissa's Garden. Myriad low sand cays to the south of Pam feature deserted beaches, sapphire seas and great snorkelling.
Village explorations are available from the homestay, which lies a five minute walk to the east of Saukabu. There is a path that connects Saukabu to Pam's other villages and a sheltered bay on the the north side of the island. It's about an 11km round trip, and there is no chance of getting lost if you stay on the path. There are lakes in the interior of the island, but it would be best to go with a guide if you want to explore those. Ask about Pam’s virgin coconut oil industry: Oils and pure coconut soaps can be purchased from the local cooperative and you are welcome to observe and/or participate on production days.

This is by far the worst accommodation we have stayed at during the entire trip. The portion sizes of each meal are extremely inadequate, failing to satisfy even basic hunger. When we requested additional food, the staff responded with unfriendly facial expressions and even snapped at customers for no justifiable reason. What is even more unacceptable is that the staff here have been seen kicking the dogs on the premises without any provocation, leaving all the dogs in a state of obvious fear of humans. It is hard to imagine that those who lack basic compassion and kindness towards animals could possibly treat people with genuine goodwill.
Sorry for your inconvenience, but I want to explain to you that every food and fruit that we give you is food and fruit that is
We often give food and fruit to our guests, but they don’t finish it because there’s already enough of it, and you also seem to want to change every rule of my homestay.
I was the only guest during my stay but was very comfortable as they gave me a VIP bungalow and made very good food every day, even with a snack between lunch and dinner. there’s a small but nice coral reef just in front of the homestay and around Fam jetty it’s very good too. the VIP bungalow is really nice with ensuite European bathroom and even tiles. fan and electricity from 6pm to 6 am

We had a nice stay at Saukabu Homestay, the family was friendly and prepared vegetarian food for us. In the afternoon you always get banana fritters and we even got coconuts! It is a very affordable homestay, the bungalow we stayed in was in good shape, with a fan at night and ensuite bathroom. No wifi but the phone signal is ok.
The housereef wasn’t the best and there was quite a lot of trash in the water so not so nice for swimming BUT we saw dolphins passing by everyday, mantas and a turtle so the ocean here is very alive haha. The trash is unfortunately a problem almost everywhere in Raja Ampat so please be mindful on your own visit.
The trips were great and have a reasonable price, Piaynemo is beautiful and our fav snorkelling spot was Fam Wall, many colorful and unique corals. If you want to swim with mantas (which we also did) just ask the owner directly for the manta trip. Be careful in the water though cause there were lots of small jellyfish.

Great homestay, close to the village, so you can really experience local life. Clean rooms (they changed our sheets after two days), private bathroom. They organize nice trips at affordable prices. I would maybe just pay a bit more attention to the food, especially breakfast. Thank you for everything 🙏

Our stay was perfect. Agnes the host was very kind and sweet, she cooked us delicious little meals every day and the view from the bungalow was beautiful. The location was very peaceful, not too far from other home stays but far enough so we felt alone on the island.
The bungalow was very clean, we had a fan, toilet with a flushing system, our own shower.
Honestly one of the best Homestay we stayed in in Raja Ampat.
I definitely recommend it.
Thank you for your visit my family 🙏

We spent 4 nights in this accommodation 2 weeks ago. I can recommend homestay if you want to rest and if you are looking for peaceful location. Regarding snorkeling ,good is around small dock and lots of fish we saw under the main village dock.It was interested to see everyday life in the village and fishing on the main dock, also there is nice long walk trough forest to the big village. Owners are nice and friendly. Communication was good and food was delicious

Great place to stay! We saw everyday dolphins when we were sitting in front of the house. Food was good.
The cabin was a bit small, but the matress of the bed was very soft and we slepy very well.
Don’t leave your stuff in front of the door, because some dogs stole our watershoes and sunglasses and demolished it haha!
But after all, I would highly recommend this place!

Danke!

We stayed 3 nights at Saukabu Homestay and enjoyed our time. The facilities are basic but a lot cleaner and of higher quality than in other homestays. The food was good and always plentiful.
The Homestay does not have a beach but a long jetty from which you can access the beautiful house reef. We were also lucky to see 5-6 Mantas swimming on the surface right in front of the jetty for 2 days in a row and also see a group of dolphins every day.
It’s a really good location for a day trip to Piaynemo and to do some snorkeling around. Just be aware that there’s not much to do around other than that.
The prices for boat transfers and renting stuff (e.g. fins) are rather overpriced.

A beautiful setting.
Nice family taking care of you.
The bungalow is basic, as is the bathroom, but it is all clean.
You can enjoy village-life, snorkelling just in front of the homestay or at a boattrip.

What a great experience!
We were the only tourists and the family hosting was very nice and caring! Food was great and the beach in front of the bungalow is beautiful! It was a good place to stay and organize our visit to Pianeymo area. We also were able to come back to Sorong via the Pam public ferry which leaves saturday morning

A wonderful stay in a lovely new beach bungalow with Sius and his family. It is only a short walk to the village where everyone is so friendly and welcoming. You can even follow a forest path to the other side of the island, as well as taking a variety of snorkelling trips – including the stunning Piaynemo – all at very reasonable prices. Thank you for an unforgettable experience!

I stayed 5 nights in Saukabu homestay and I can highly recommend it.
The bungalows are cude and comfortable, with a furnished terrace.
When I arrived, even the dolphines welcomed me. I felt like in paradise, with the fabuloes white beach, the lounges in the shadow, the friendly family and a wonderful lunch:) Every day they prepared a varied food, with fruits and in the afternoon I got some snacks like cake, or pancake or the wonderful fried bananas.
The people in the village are so friendly, some tought me somemore few words in papua:) injonabor!
I did the trekk to the waterfall with Sius, the very lovely owner. It was a nice walk with a great view to the lake and a coconut drinking stop at the beach.
I also went to several snorkeling points with his brothers, Michael and Richie. One of them always goes to water with you, which made me feel very safe.
We saw a lot of beautiful corals, fishes sharks and I even saw a babymanta:)
Piaynemo was a highlight. So thankful I went there.
I extended one night, spending a very relaxed day on the beach in the lounge and feeling that I dont want to leave..
Thank you so much everybody here, Sius and the your brothers for always helping in everything and laughing with me, the sisters for cooking the best food and always smiling to me and take care of me.
Terihmakasi, injonabor, Dankeschön:):)

This is an abosultely amazing place directly on the beach.
I stayed in the newer cabin that came with a comfy matress. The bathroom is clean and the hole place is really well kept.
We saw several black tip reef sharks just snorekleing just along the beach. There are plenty of things to do around here and the owner Sius is super lovely and dedicated to do his best for his guests. We only stayed 3 nights but I would have liked to stay a few more.

Had four lovely nights in Saukabu. Bungalows are excellent, food great, and it’s a very nice island to explore with friendly locals.

April 2023: Saukabu has been closed since the pandemic, and has just reopened with rebuilt bungalows.

We spent 4 nights in Saukabu homestay. The owners are a young boy Sius with his wife and their children. Sius speaks English. They live next to the accommodation. They are very nice and will do everything for your satisfied stay. Mrs. is a little ashamed but is friendly and cooks well. They don’t speak English very much, gestures will help a lot. Always thank and smile like them. The location is perfect at the end of the beach and in a secluded location from the village and other resorts nearby. You have more privacy, not so many crowds around. We were lucky, we were alone in homestay while staying in March. Saukabu is far from Waisai. But there is much better weather than on KRI island, there are no hills, no clouds. Few people and peace. Very close to destinations like Piaynemo, Rufas, Melissas Garden. We didn’t see any divers nearby. Some snorkeling is right at the house and near the pier at the village. However, it is best to request a snorkeling trip. Prices for excursions are moderate and fair. Neighboring homestay offered a little higher for the same goals. We were snorkeling on FAM WALL and on the neighboring island. But we saw the best on a snorkeling trip to ANDAU Island. Lots of big and small fish, small sharks. Corals are well-preserved and healthy. Owner Sius or his brother will go into the water with you and show you everything the best. It is also safe to escort in strong currents (take fins). However, the boat is still flying close to you when you have a problem. You do not have to worry about health and safety. The cottages are all day in the sun for a nice sunbathing in front. The beach for swimming is only at high tide. At low tide there are corals. Meals are served in a separate veranda. The food is good, the base is rice and vegetables, every day fish in different ways, and in the afternoon some dessert. Always plenty of drinking water, tea and coffee. The amount of food is sufficient, you will not suffer from hunger. There are mosquitoes and some sand flies, bring with you an insect repellent or citronela for the evening. The cottage is good, smaller, but needs to soon repair the roof against the rain. There are beds and mattresses. Mattresses and pillows are fragrant and very comfortable. Sanitary facilities are basic Turkish, but clean, looked much better than the neighbors. Every day they check and clean it several times. Mandy water is fresh, not brackish. We haven’t seen any rats around. There are many dogs from the village, but they don’t attack or go inside the house. Go on a trip to the neighboring village SAUPAPIR. The journey is about 2 km long and starts right behind your cabin. You will see a lot of curious smiling waving children and their school on the end road. Maybe they’ll find coconut for you and open it to us like we do. And don’t forget to sit at the beach table with the light in the evening and watch the stars. Thanks for everything, we will definitely go back again.

Our family of 6 just spent 3 nights at Saukabu Homestay in January and absolutely loved it! Host Sius and his family are so lovely and really looked after us with delicious and plentiful food. Fresh fish was plucked from the ocean for our dinner each night. There are 4 huts, each with a little balcony, a table and 2 chairs and they are artistically decorated with driftwood, shell & nut decorations and even painted plastic bottles – a clever recycling idea! Sius and his family take great pride in their homestay. We especially loved the beautiful carved wooden table, which overlooks the ocean and has its own night light – we played cards here every night. The electricity at night was very reliable. There are 2 other home stays alongside Saukabu, but we loved that Saukabu was at the end of the row – it was more private. The house reef out the front is good and there is some more good reef on the far side of the village jetty. We went on fantastic snorkelling trips each day in the ‘Saukabu Star’ speed boat – each around 400,000R. Sius always accompanied us in the water, so we felt very safe. These trips are some of our family’s fondest Raja Ampat memories. The boat driver, Ariel, is such a charismatic, friendly man and even with a language barrier we had so much fun with him. The snorkelling was also some of the best we experienced. One day we snorkeled from the boat to a remote island beach where we had a delicious picnic lunch – a highlight. We also swam with manta rays off Manta Point which was special.
Saukabu village is only a 2 minute walk away and there is a shop with basic staples. This was one of our favourite home stays and we all want to return! The hospitality was 5 star! Sius also speaks some English, which makes communication easy.
