Saudori Homestay offers the following bungalows:

  • A two room, over water, family bungalow. (If you want to book the whole bungalow, then select 2 x Room in a bungalow on the booking form above.)
  • Two over water private bungalows
  • Four on beach private bungalows. (These are over water at high tide.) Note that the beach bungalows do not have ocean views, as they are built facing each other. See the photos in the gallery above.

Each bungalow sleeps two people on mattresses on the floor. Bedding includes sheets, pillows, bolsters and mosquito nets.

Meals are served in Saudori’s large, over-water dining room. Free drinking water and tea and coffee making supplies are always available there.

Guests share a concrete-floored bathoom and toilet building which provides bucket bathing and a western style toilet in separate rooms.

Electricity is supplied by a generator which runs from around sunset to midnight. Saudori Homestay receives a reasonably strong 4G signal which will sometimes support a data connection.

You can buy basic supplies in the nearby Manyaifun village, but you’ll need to bring sufficient supplies of your favourite snacks and anything else that you can’t do without. It’s also important to take any inorganic trash (especially plastic and batteries) that you create away with you when you leave – there’s no safe waste disposal on Manyaifun. (That’s the case everywhere in Raja Ampat – see this information.)

English isn’t spoken at Saudori Homestay, but it is next door at Subdikar if you need help communicating.

Transport / Getting there

It's a long trip (about 2.5 hours) between Waisai and Saudori, but you'll see a lot of Raja Ampat on the way. The route passes through Kabui Bay and Kabui Passage, then past the white sand beaches and turquoise waters of the Meos Manggara cays.

Transfer prices in the table below are IDR, and are shared by passengers.

FROM/TO PRICE
WAISAI (1-2 passengers) 1,900,000
WAISAI (3-6 passengers) 2,500,000

Activities

Located on a narrow sand spit between the ocean and a tidal mangrove lagoon, Saudori Homestay has a rich house reef and crystal clear water that provides excellent snorkelling (bring your own gear).

A huge range of marine life frequents the bay at Manyaifun. A lot of it can be seen by simply sitting on your homestay verandah for a while! Turtles and dolphins are regular visitors by day and the seagrass beds below the homestay flash with bioluminescent plankton at night. The clear tidal waters of the mangrove lagoon behind the homestay swarm with juvenile fish and other aquatic and bird life.

Manyaifun village

The village of Manyaifun is shared by the inhabitants of its Muslim and Christian quarters and is well worth exploring. Ask for a guide to show you the fresh water eels that inhabit a small pool on one of the streams that supplies the village water. The Nawan or Nipa Palm grows on Manyaifun and the thatch roofs of the village houses exhibit a classic pattern not seen in the more common thatch of other Raja Ampat villages. Manyaifun's a pretty village with traditional, rustic timber and thatch stilt homes sitting side by side with brightly painted more modern island homes. Explorations further afield can be made via the many tracks that fan out from the village.

Pulau Batanme (Batang Pele)

A narrow strait separates Manyaifun from the bigger Batanme Island to the north, which affords good hiking and panoramic views from its heights. You could arrange for a boat to drop you off and pick you up later if you wanted to do some exploring, although going with a guide would be safer and more rewarding.

  • I stayed at Saudori homestay on 17 and 18 February 2026. The house reef is fabulous: it’s like having a coral garden right under your feet. Despite the proximity of the village huts that line the Manyaifun bay the coral is alive and well, teeming with fish of all varieties as well as baby sharks, and the drop off is visible from the hut where I was housed. I had the place to myself as, for the past eight months, Wayag has been off bounds due to a conflict over the closure of a mine that a nearby village had a vested interest in. This has had dire consequences for homestay owners in the area, amounting to a huge loss of income. But Manyaiful has plenty to offer, even if one can’t go out to Wayag temporarily, and I would wholeheartedly recommend a stay there. The village is unusual in that both Muslim and Christian communities inhabit it. Bobby, the relaxed owner of Saudori homestay, took me for a long walk through the village and along the long sandy beach that lines the bay. His wife and family cooked tasty meals for me and treated me to wild mango fruit picked in the forest and delicious pancakes. We all went out for a boat trip to Piaynemo which, as a result, felt like a family outing.

  • I had a very peaceful stay for a week with Daniel and his family. The location is simply stunning – a small quiet cove with a little beach, backed by the jungle. Every morning dolphins passed by in front of the overeater bungalows. You can sit on the boardwalk and watch fish in the coral below, or snorkel.
Daniel’s family prepared tasty meals for us, simple but good food. Daniel also took us on a birdwatching trek in the morning – we didn’t get to see the birds of paradise but it was still a lovely morning. I would very happily stay here again

  • We had a nice five nights at Yengkawe, the bungalow was basic (mattress on the floor, mosquito net) but clean and had amazing views. Daniel speaks a little English and his family are very sweet. The food was pretty repetitive (fried bananas for breakfast, fish/rice/veg for lunch and dinner) but tasty. We went on a birdwatching tour but unfortunately didn’t see any Birds of Paradise. The snorkelling from the homestay is okay compared to other nearby spots in Raja. We did go on a snorkelling trip with two other guests and that was great–we saw a dugong at Friwen! Dolphins pass the homestay most days, and the water is gorgeously clear so you can spot stuff straight off the deck. The family pointed out a couscous in the trees, too!

  • We stayed for 4 nights and enjoyed our stay a lot. Daniel and his family are wonderful. Daniel speaks a little bit of english and is always available for question. The accomodation is very basic with just a matress on the floor and a mosquito net and a hammock on the terrace. But what else you need in that little paradise. You have a nice housereef to snorkel with thousands of sardines under the huts. Dolphins pass by every morning and can be observed either from your terrace a from a platform Daniel built. We saw even some dugongs passing by. Daniel offers also birdwatching. You can walk through a a djungel pass to Sapokren and explore the village. The food is very tasty with vegetables from the own garden. But be aware that the food is almost always the same (fish, rice and vegetables for lunch and dinner and fried banana for breakfast). If you are looking for an authentic homestay experience we would highly recomend this homestay. There were no other guests during our stay which made it very private but did not made it possible to share costs for boat excursions.

  • I stayed one night in Yengkawe as my last stop before returning to Sorong and I was glad to have visited this place.

The location is absolutely beautiful, with stunning views over the bay, charming bungalows over the water and a lovely beach of soft white sand. The snorkelling was fine with large schools of fish under the jetty (but I saw more spectacular reefs in other areas).

The owner was nice and I liked that he was very careful and quiet during our birdwatching tour. I was able to spot a Bird of Paradise hidden in the trees and the sound of the jungle at sunrise was magic. Be prepared though, the hike starts at 5am and was quite an uphill walk, so have a coffee and a banana first 🙂 Apparently the area is also good for herping.

When I had my boat transfer back to Waisai there were lots of dolphins and the boatman was kind enough to stay longer so I could watch them just a few metres away. What a great way to say goodbye to Raja!

Some suggestions for improvement: there was not much choice of food for vegetarians and some creamer for the coffee would also be nice.

As the place is quite isolated and transport is required for all other activities, I would recommend staying there only for a couple of days, especially when travelling solo.
Still, alone for the dolphins and birdwatching it was totally worth it for me 🙂

  • We had a lovely stay at Yengkawe with Daniel and his family. The setting is stunning, rooms very comfortable and the value for money is excellent (especially for Raja Ampat prices).

Daniel took us on two early morning hikes to see the Red and then Wilson’s Birds of Paradise, which were both successful! A very kind man who is happy to help in whatever way he can.

Incredible snorkel right outside your door and we saw many dolphins and even a dugong from the homestay.

Definitely recommend staying here if you’re looking for a relaxed Waigeo homestay.

  • Stayed at Yengkawe 3 nights in February and it was perfect. The location with it’s turquoise waters, on-the-water bungalows, and private beach is stunning. We both did a jungle hike with Daniel to see the Wilson, and a hike on our own to Saporkren village which is also very worth a visit. The bungalows have a nice breeze which make them very comfortable to sleep in. From the deck we saw whales, dolphins and needlefish hunting the thousands of fish that like hiding out under the jetty. The snorkeling in the house reef is also good, and you can always jump straight into the water from your bungalow as the tide is always high enough. The food was tasty and facilities always clean. Thank you Daniel and family, we will definitely be back!

  • I stayed at Yengkawe for four nights in February and felt really welcomed by Daniel and his family. The homestay is beautifully situated on a tiny beach and cove, giving it a Robinson Crusoe feel. You are completely unplugged from the outside world. The overwater bungalows are basic, as expected, but they do have electricity and a fan. The mattress, placed on the floor, was comfortable and covered with a large mosquito net. Be sure to bring your own bathroom amenities, including soap.

The food is delicious but the same every day—fish, green vegetables, and rice, Banana fritters are served for breakfast.

Dolphins pass by almost every morning, sometimes quite close. The snorkeling under the bungalows is some of the best I have ever seen—an endless carpet of tiny fish, along with batfish, anemone fish , nudibranch and more. At night, I spotted squid and a huge swimming flatworm.

Daniel offers trips to see both the Red and Wilson’s Bird-of-Paradise. I went twice for each. The Red BOP requires a 35-minute uphill walk behind the homestay to a viewing platform. The birds were high in the trees and a bit difficult to see. For Wilson’s BOP, I visited two different locations—one requiring a boat ride followed by a one-hour trek, and another involving a 1.5-hour trek starting from the backyard. I went very early in the mornings and saw the birds on all my trips.

  • ⚠️ A Terrible Experience! The Host, Daniel, is Completely Dishonest – Avoid Yengkawe Birdwatching Homestay at All Costs! ⚠️

During my stay, I encountered three major red flags. I hope all future travelers planning to visit Raja Ampat take note:
1️⃣ Daniel Ignores Messages – He Reads but Doesn’t Reply
2️⃣ Excessive & Unreasonable Transportation Fees
3️⃣ No Integrity – Promised a Refund but Went Back on His Word

    📌 Booking Background

This was my second homestay during my trip. Before coming here, I had an amazing 13-night stay at another homestay. However, my experience at Yengkawe completely shattered my good impression of Raja Ampat.

I booked a 4-night stay (Feb 2 – Feb 6, 2025) through Stay Raja Ampat, but I ended up leaving early due to the terrible experience.

❌ 1. The Host Ignores Messages & Leaves You Hanging

After making my booking, I sent two messages to Daniel over a one-week period—he ignored all of them.

It wasn’t until January 24, when I specifically asked him about transportation from Waisai, that he finally replied with a simple “OK.” But once I arrived at the homestay, he went back to ignoring my messages again.

    ❌ 2. Outrageous Transportation Fees – A Total Rip-off

Without any prior notice or warning, I was charged IDR 500,000 (~$32) for a one-way trip, broken into two separate fees, which clearly seemed like a family-run scam to overcharge tourists:
    • First, the driver took me 12 km by car to the end of a road and then demanded IDR 300,000 (~$19) for that short ride. I checked Google Maps, and the distance was indeed only 12 km!
    • Then, Daniel’s family picked me up by boat for a 15-minute ride, charging me IDR 200,000 (~$13).
    • That means a round-trip transfer costs IDR 1,000,000 (~$64), which is absurdly overpriced!

🚨 Here’s the biggest proof that this is a rip-off: Later, my previous homestay sent a boat from Kri Island at night to pick me up. Their total round-trip cost was even cheaper than my one-way trip to Yengkawe! This clearly shows that Yengkawe is exploiting transportation costs to overcharge visitors.

❌ 3. The Host is Completely Dishonest – Promised a Refund, Then Backed Out

Daniel personally promised me a refund multiple times, but the moment I left, he denied everything and refused to reply to my messages!
    • I originally booked 4 nights but decided to leave after 3 nights due to the terrible experience. I had already informed Daniel about this on January 6—long before my arrival.
    • I asked for a refund for 1 night, but at first, he refused, claiming that he had already bought supplies. After negotiating, we agreed on a refund of IDR 400,000 (~$26)—even though my original nightly rate was IDR 750,000 (~$48). I had already made a big compromise.
    • Daniel agreed to the refund but kept delaying the payment. After dinner on the third night, I asked him again when he would return my money. He insisted he would give it to me the next morning—clearly stalling for time!
    • I was so frustrated staying there that I contacted my previous homestay, and they sent a boat to rescue me. In the end, I only stayed for 2 nights instead of 4.
    • Before leaving, I confronted Daniel again, and he still said he would refund me but that he didn’t have cash and that I should ask Stay Raja Ampat instead.

The next morning, I contacted Laura from Stay Raja Ampat, explaining the situation. Instead of addressing Daniel’s dishonesty, she just hid behind the cancellation policy and ignored the fact that Daniel broke his own promise.

She told me she tried to contact Daniel twice, and he told her he wouldn’t refund anything. After that, she stopped following up and just told me to send an email to their official support.

⚠️ Final Warning: DO NOT Stay at Yengkawe Birdwatching Homestay! ⚠️

The host is completely dishonest, and their only goal is to take as much money from you as possible. From the ridiculous transportation costs to refusing to honor his own promises, this experience was beyond disappointing.

💥 If you don’t want to be scammed, ignored, and cheated—STAY AWAY!
💥 Stay Raja Ampat, as a booking platform, does nothing to protect travelers from unethical hosts.

I hope this review helps future travelers avoid this terrible place. Don’t make the same mistake I did! 🚨

    • ⚠️ Dear Reader! Some moderation is called for here! ⚠️

1️⃣ Unless you communicate in Bahasa Indonesia, many homestay owners will struggle to understand written messages. To help with communication problems, we provide local support numbers in booking confirmation emails. All you have to do is call. Or you can email us for assistance if you prefer. Songman did neither.

2️⃣ The transport price Songman was charged was exactly as (has always been) advertised on Yengkawe’s page above.

3️⃣ Stay Raja Ampat provides full support for guests, and we will always refund in the event of overbooking or basic standards failure at homestays. Both our booking confirmation emails, and our cancellation policy advise the need to contact us immediately in the event of any issue for which a refund might be warranted. There was no such issue at Yengkawe, and Songman didn’t contact us at all until after leaving the homestay.

💥 We publish all reviews from guests who book on our website. For perspective, please do read more below! 🚨

  • The homestay is great, the secluded location fantastic. It has a Robinson Crusoe feeling. The house reef is reasonably intact, good for snorkeling. A 40-minute walk to nearby Sapokreng is worthwhile. I also really enjoyed the birdwatching tour to the Red Bird of Paradise with Daniel. The food is simple but good. If you are a light sleeper, you should bring earplugs, as the waves crash quite loudly against the shore directly behind the bungalows.
Highly recommended for people who appreciate solitude and tranquillity.

  • Sauduri Homestay: Breathtaking Beauty Marred by Serious Concerns
Our two-night camping experience in Wayag with Bobby and his father Deki was a study in contrasts, ultimately ending on a sour note that overshadowed the positive aspects.
    The Good
The natural beauty of Wayag is truly unparalleled. We enjoyed:
    • A pristine lagoon all to ourselves
    • Spectacular sunsets, sunrises, and moonlit nights
    • Vibrant coral reefs and swimming with manta rays
    • Authentic local experiences like fishing and beach barbecues
    Critical Issues
Despite the stunning setting, several serious problems make it impossible to recommend this experience:
    1. Safety Concerns: The boat’s motor constantly broke down, leading to a terrifying incident where we were stranded in open water during a severe storm with zero visibility. Bobby and Deki seemed ill-equipped to handle emergencies, arguing with each other during the crisis.
    2. Unethical Business Practices: On our return journey, Bobby and Deki engaged in what can only be described as blackmail:
    • They demanded we stay an extra night, which would have disrupted our subsequent travel plans.
    • They arbitrarily tripled the previously agreed-upon price.
    • They refused to negotiate, leaving us with no choice but to comply.
    3. Breach of Trust: This price gouging and manipulation completely eroded any goodwill built during the beautiful moments of the trip. It was a deeply disappointing end to what should have been a memorable experience.
    Conclusion
While Wayag itself is breathtakingly beautiful, we cannot in good conscience recommend Sauduri Homestay or tours with Bobby and Deki. The combination of serious safety issues and unethical business practices far outweigh the natural beauty of the location. Potential visitors should seek alternative, more professional and trustworthy operators to explore this stunning region safely and without the risk of exploitation.

  • Yengkawe Homestay was one of our best experiences, offering a mix of natural beauty, hospitality, and relaxation.
Daniel has a calm but comfortable presence and his family were incredibly sweet, making us feel very welcome. The homestay is set in a beautiful little bay, perfect for snorkeling in all directions. The relaxed atmosphere and the unique overwater bungalow nestled into the rock added to the charm. Meals were plentiful, and the fried banana for breakfast was a personal favorite. We enjoyed a trip to see the birds of paradise and waking up to the sounds of many birds each morning. I had some bites, possibly from ants or bed bugs, and the mattress was not very comfortable.

But you can never have it all so I would still highly recommend it!

  • We had a great time with Daniel and his beautiful family. The food was good. The view from the homestay is amazing. Bird watching was fantastic. We also saw a giant green snake on the forest trek. Many eagles. Snorkeling was good, squid at night, walk to Saporkren was fun. I’ll be back!

  • Most beautiful Homestay I had in my 3 weeks of Raja Ampat

Had a lovely stay for a couple of days at beginning of December. Daniel and his family are excellent hosts and the place is a paradise. Big swarms of fish were swimming along the corals under my hut. While snorkeling I met a peacock mantis shrimp (don’t miss the next bay to the north just around the corner)

Did a short trip with Daniel with the paddle boat to also see the coast to the south and he also offers lights for night snorkeling. Also saw dolphins every day very close to the huts on the water. Ask Daniel about the dolphin spotting platform to the south.

Even though it was my last stay after 2,5 weeks in Raja I still saw new fish in the house reef. Even saw baby squid and baby needlefish just from the dining room. The food was yummy, I eat a lot and always got more food than I could eat. Had good fish everyday but you don‘t come here for variety of food but for good snorkeling, dolphins, bird watching (Bird of Paradise, Eagles, nesting Willy wagtails etc.) and a remote beautiful place. Will definetly come back again as this was the most beautiful Homestay I had in my 3 weeks of Raja Ampat. Also by far the best mattress 😀

Was able to reach it by foot. Took a taxi close to Saprokren, walked through the village and found some kids of Daniel on the beach west to the village. They were happy to meet me and guided me on a trail from the beach to Yengkawe Homestay. Took around 1 hours from the road through village to Homestay. The trail was not easy to find and not easy to walk. Only do it with backpack ofc. I think you can also get a boat from the village or the beach and of course Daniel offers pick ups. On way back to the ferry Daniel organized a boat for me.

We stayed 3 nights in the homestay and the last night the luminescent plankton was there… Superb.

The homestay is simple, but very clean. Food could have been more varied (we are vegetarians), but good.

Bobby can take you to Wayag, which is superb… And go swimming alone with the stingrays, a magical moment on a spot, just ask Bobby.

The only downside was that we had to have a discussion with Bobby about the Waisai/homestay transfer, as the price indicated on the site was not respected. To be confirmed with Bobby before your transfer…

Finally, as the homestay is on the edge of the village, you can enjoy the choir on Sunday morning…

  • Daniel does his best to accommodate his guests. His food is the same but acceptable. Fresh bananas were great each day. The children are fun to interact with on land and in the water. We saw two dugongs enter the cove, and exit as we tried to approach them with snorkels. We enjoyed our 4 day stay.

  • We stayed at Saudori homestay for the camping trip to wayag. We had an incredible 2 night camping trip in the lagoon. We had the place all to ourselves. Jonathan and Sofyan we our guides and they showed us some amazing spots. They scampered up coconut trees to get us coconuts whenever we wanted them, took us night snorkeling. They gave us a truly local experience. The price was really reasonable at 6 million for two people for two nights of camping. The food is simple, but to be expected that far away from Waisai. If you are looking to go camping in wayag, this homestay is a great option.

  • Yengkawe homestay was our first homestay coming from waisai. The place is beautiful!! Paradise!

Daniel is nice, a bit introvert but accommodating. No matter what we needed , he helped us to get it and tried his best to communicate in English.
Don’t expect to get quick answers on WhatsApp or any. He seems to dislike or not understand much technology and that speaks out quite by itself on the style of the homestay. Simple yet authentic and relaxing.
We got the newest bungalow since we were alone and it was good.

Some of the mattresses are not too firm or straight so we asked to change to the other bungalow which had a better mattress and it was then a good one.

The sound of the waves at night is nice yet sometimes it’s quite loud since it’s just next to the breaking point of the waves.

It’s relaxing there and snorkeling is good just outside the bungalows, you can jump in the water and sunbath on the pier. Dolphins are passing not too far away and Daniel built a ramp in the jungle to see them from.

We were alone so it was both very nice but sometimes felt like it would be nice to have more people around.

*food* is good and fresh yet not changing and almost the same everyday.

There’s a nice walk to sporkren village, 45 minutes in the jungle. It’s a very nice walk and a good excersize which some may need due to the homestay being very small and far away from civilization.

Talking to Daniel was sometimes challenging but eventually he understood us and we understood him.

Electricity comes from sporkren village so it works all the time unless there’s problems at the village.
Sometimes you wish lights were turned off at night as it could be nice to look at the stars.

Everything was quite clean and overall was a great experience a good place to start from.
I would probably choose another place next time to go to but mostly because I would want to try other places.

If you wish to be alone, this place will give you a lot of rest and serenity. If you like socializing, I would probably only go for a one or two nights max.

  • We loved this place so much. Beautiful, clean, comfortable and the family is friendly. Dolphins arrived in the morning aswell. We did a bird watching tour and saw a hornbill and the red bird of paradise. We were the only guests. I highly recommend this place if youre looking for a genuine and relaxing experience.

We were made very welcome at Saudrori Homestay, the food is excellent, the people are very pleasant. You just need to update the photos on your site as the Saudori is getting bigger. We went to the Saudori Homestay to see the
noctilucent plankton sparkling beneath the bungalows most nights. When I asked about it, the person in charge laughed and I had no explanation. It would be a good idea to specify when this phenomenon occurs or to remove this sentence from your site. your site as the saudori is getting bigger.
ust so we’re clear about noctilucent plankton sparkling beneath the bungalows most nights, and a fine sandy beach., either there isn’t any at all, or it should be specified that this phenomenon only occurs when there’s a new moon. We went to see this curiosity and when I asked the person didn’t stop laughing and I got no explanation.

    • Thanks for taking the time to leave a review Mueller🙏

It’s a shame you didn’t get to see the bioluminescence. Perhaps things have changed, or perhaps you were expecting something more spectacular than the reality.

Please note too, that there is no mention of “most” nights! Like all wild animals, plankton come and go according to their own natural cycles.

  • We were there for 3 nights in 3 people. It’s a really good Homestay to enjoy Wayag, we suggest the overnight trip to have the best experience. Also, the local village is amazing as it can get to have a real experience of RA people and life. Bobby and his family have been really welcoming and the food was simple but good.

  • Saudori Homestay is THE BEST place to visit Wayag from. We booked an overnight camping trip to Wayag with Bobby and it was very well organised and an incredible experience. We visited 2 view points, shark point and some snorkelling spots before camping on a beautiful beach. All food and camping equipment, as well as the entrance fee and transport was included in the price which cost 6,000,000 IDR for a boat of 4 or 4,000,000 IDR for a boat of 2. This is the best possible price we could find, with some homestays charging over 13,000,000 IDR for the same trip. The homestay itself is basic but comfortable and within a local village, meaning you can experience local life. The only slight discomfort was the heat and humidity on the night as there was no fan in the room. There are also many amazing snorkelling sites including Tamaku reef which is one of the best we snorkelled on in RA. The close by Manta Point is by far the best one we went to, even after diving at the one close to Arborek and snorkelling at the one in the Pam Islands. There were so many of them and they were just swimming and flipping around us for the entire time. They would get so close that they had to swim directly underneath us. Mantas are here all year round too so it’s not as dependent on the season and we were the only people there! We loved it so much that we went twice. The only thing to note was that there was some disagreement over the pricing of boat transfer to Waisai with Bobby so we recommend double checking the price prior with them and also refer to the Stay Raja Ampat website.

  • We have a little different experience at this homestay. First we were shocked that Daniel asks 200K for the boat ride to the village, as we got it for 50K from strangers which didn’t host us. That left a little weird feeling. But then he organised the blue river trip for us (500K per Person for 4 people, so 2 Mio. Which seems fair when you see what others offer)

Our hut was very nice and clean. The bathrooms could need a better cleaning since they were pretty smelling.

Unfortunatley we were not lucky with the food as other discribe. It was our 5th homestay and we always ate soo great but then very poorly here. In the 3 nights we almost got the same food in the whole stay, only once we got something different and portions were also very small. With better food we would have extended our stay, but we were really rid of it.

But it is super cool that the dolphines really arrive every morning and very close to the homestay. Daniel also gave us his boat for free so that we could go closer. That was very nice.

  • We stayed with Daniel and his lovely family for 2 nights and 3 days. They were most welcoming and super sweet. The location is stunning, right on the water, beautiful sunsets and a great swimming spot. We saw dolphins daily that passed right in front of our bungalow!
The food is tasty, simple and Daniel catches the fish we eat for lunch and dinner, cannot get more fresh then that. The bungalows are rustic but met our needs.
We did a morning bird watching tour with Daniel, it was a unique experience waking up with the birds.
It is a bit of an adventure to get to the homestay but well worth it.
Thank you Daniel and family for hosting us!

  • What a beautiful secluded piece of island ! Daniel’s Birdwatching Homestay was our very first taste of Raja Ampat and we completely fell in love with it. We were lucky to be completely alone so it gave the whole experience a bit of a Robinson Crusoe taste, only 30 minutes boat from Wasai! The bungalows are large and built over the water and allow for an easy dip. They are basic but well maintained . It’s a piece of paradise, with a beautiful shady beach, where you can relax and be rocked by the waves.
Daniel was very kind and accommodating with everything we asked him. His English is very basic but enough to be understood and he was very kind and patient with our long hours of snorkeling or our detours to see the pod of dolphins who swim close to the homestay every morning ! The boat tour along Kabui Bay is a must see, as well as the 45 minutes early morning walk in the jungle to see birds of paradise. It’s an amazing experience to enjoy jungle noises and glimpse at those beautiful yet shy birds. Daniel built a sturdy wooden structure with makes it easier to observe them.
The food is good and generous – there’s fresh fish for every meal !

  • Beautiful homestay with very friendly hosts. Almost each morning dolphins in front of the homestay. Opportunities to watch the birds of paradise.

  • It is the most convenient homestay if you intend to visit Wayag. They organize good trips for a resonable price, (the best we could get anywhere else). The family is really willing to please you all the time. Food is godd and a lot. I also appreciated the position in a very remote village where you can share people life.

  • Lovely stay here early December! Beautiful location, very remote. You can walk up from the homestay to see the red bird of paradise and snorkel or kayak right in front of the rooms. Made some beautiful day trips by boat. Also delicious food, although breakfast was only pisang goreng.

  • Yengkawe Homestay is in a gorgeous, secluded and peaceful location. In the morning we watched a family of white bellied sea eagles feeding in the water in front of the bungalow. Unlike other locations we visited there was not the constant stream engine noise and fumes of boats coming and going as the family uses kayaks to get around and there are no other residents. Daniel and his family were very enthusiastic and helpful during our short stay. We saw red bird of paradise which is a 30 min walk from the bungalow in beautiful forest. It was super special to hear the dawn chorus emerging from the valley below. Unfortunately it rained a lot so we didn’t get to use the kayak but it would have been a great area to explore with them. Mobile signal is patchy – generally only one or two bars but power is available all day. Prior to arrival communication via Whatsapp was difficult but once we arrived Daniel was very helpful. We needed to leave a day early and Daniel arranged a transfer at short notice.

  • Nature and the surroundings are truly beautiful at Yengkawe!
The coral reef in front of the bungalows is amazing, and you can snorkel further from the homestay to see even more varied and rich reefs.
In the mornings dolphins can be spotted, and during one sunset they came quite close to the bungalows – it was such an amazing site!
We went birdwatching and saw the birds of paradise from a nice spot that Daniel built.
We also tried out the kayaks, i really recommend having at least a short trip with them, it’s a really nice experience. The top attraction though was a trip around Arborek for manta watching. The mantas were quite close to the surface and we all could snorkel with them, it was amazing experience.
Also, we were amazed each day by nature and the spectacular sunsets (the sun sets right in front of the overwater bungalows, so you can either enjoy those while sitting on the jetty or while chilling in your hammock).
Even though there was a bit language barrier between us, we still managed to arrange everything we discussed (transfer to another island, etc) with Daniel.
The matresses could definitely be improved though, several of the guests – including us – were trying to switch bungalows in search for a more comfortable one.
Food is not really varied, it is always freshly caught fish and rice.
Overall we definitely recommend this homestay because of its great location, spectacular reef and a very friendly owner!

  • simple homestay in beautiful surroundings. Nice hospitality. Thank you for the good time. We saw paradise birds in the morning.

  • Daniel and his family definitely made our stay memorable. Whilst it was initially difficult to communicate over WhatsApp, once we arrived Daniel was very helpful and really enthusiastic. He’s trying his best to communicate in English and was happy to teach us some local Papuan phrases. He organized a day trip to see the mantas near Aborek and has built a fantastic platform to watch the red bird of paradise from. The sea kayaks are also really high quality for those looking to rent them. The food was great, although we felt as though fruit after meals would’ve been appreciated. Our only comments are on the cleanliness and rooms. The beds are all in need of repair and quite uncomfortable. Furthermore, we felt more could’ve been done to clean the rooms and mosquito nets which felt quite old and dirty. However, Daniel was happy for us to move to another bungalow. The view and location is incredible, and near to a beautiful village where you can rent a motorbike from to visit Wasai and the Blue River. Overall, you won’t be disappointed!

  • Deky assisted us from getting us there from Gam. The homestay is comfortable enough and clean. The toilet is basic but clean with toilet paper and fresh water. Shower is bucket shower but clean water. There’s seabreeze during the day. The trip organised by Deky to Wayag was spectacular though it’s a long trip (2 hours each way). Sharks sanctuary was such great experience, and the hike to both hills are worth doing as the views are breath taking!
Deky and his family fed us with plenty of food that I never even felt hungry at all. Vegies and fish are the main food daily for lunch and dinner. We got mangoes as fruits as they have their own tree at the back. The children are really fun to watch as they play boaties, fishing and swimming everyday. Overall Deky’s family made us feel at home and welcomed during our 4 nights stay. And the snorkelling is spectacular too.

  • I did not like Yengkawe homestay, Daniel is not reliable. Yes, there are hornbills flying over the huts sometimes, I saw dolphins patrolling in the prettily bay and the birds of paradise are, if Daniel actually takes you to see them which is not sure at all, spectacular. But the huts are in a sad condition and somehow precarious. The food is ok, but I was served the same 4 thing four times in a row. The bay is pretty but tiny, there is nowhere to go, one feels a bit stuck. There was incessant noise all day long since there is construction of other huts.
And here comes my major complaint : Daniel only takes you to see the birds in the morning if there is another group coming from elsewhere. He is not interested in showing them to you. I was lucky the first morning even though, once at the spot, I was given the worst spot, which I resented a bit since I was his only guest.
We agreed the next morning to see more birds at 4 am. He never showed up. Not at 5, not at 6. I left .

  • Excelent place with gorgeous corals in front to snorkling every day:)
The place and the cabins are very simple but clean.
The only suggestion I make is to improve the variety of food. If you wanna stay more than 2 nights, be ready to eat chicken with rice every single meal.

Merci 🙌🏾

  • Our stay was really good! This is the best place close to Wayag. We did an unforgettable day trip with Bobby. I recommend this homestay. It is quiet, a good place to snorkel and the village on the Island is nice as well.
Thank you Bobby, we had a really good Time !

  • The location is wonderful, with a lovely sandy beach and not a single mosquito (at least during our stay). We spent three nights, enough to go bird watching (saw the birds of paradise mating dance, but expensive if you’re a larger group 250,000 per person), snorkel at the Friwen Wall (wonderful, 500,000 IDR), explore the charming village (45 minute hike each way), and just chill and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
Daniel was friendly and accommodating (let us hang around for a late checkout) but communication was difficult, even with Google Translate, and everything needed to be double and triple confirmed.

  • We enjoyed our stay very much. This is a unique and beautiful location to enjoy nature and find peace. Beautiful snorkeling just in front of the cabins, and we saw dolphins passing anlmost every day. The owner took us birdwatching and we saw the Red bird of paradise but we saw many different birds passing by just sitting on the jetty.

The owners are very helpful, respecting your privacy but there for you when you need them. And the food was good as well.

We enjoyed the beauty of this place very much, definitely with a visit.

  • This Homestay ist great! The bungalows are build pretty nice and you have an amazing View. Its only accessable by boat so you have this beautiful place almost for yourself.
    Toilets are simple but clean.
From the bungalow or the jetty in front you have an amazing Sunset as well. There are hammocks to relax. Snorkeling ist good. We had an amazing time and were sad to leave.
One of the best homestays weve ever been.
    Fully recommend!

  • The coral reef is nice, Daniel is very friendly but it’s a place where to stay for one night only, no more.
Not the best you can find in Raja Ampat.

  • I stayed at Yengkawe Birdwatching Homestay for 2 nights and it was amazing. The location and views are really beautiful, and the snorkeling just off the beach is gorgeous. I also did a morning tour with Daniel and we were lucky enough to see a male Red Bird of Paradise, which was awesome.

  • We stay here for 2 nights for birdwatching. We went 2 times. Early in the morning to see the red birds of paradise with Danile (45min walk one way). He built a platform for observation, really good, we saw 4 of them. Magical moment.
In the afternoon, we ask to go in the jungle to try to spot the Wilson bird of paradise. We went with Danile and a guide. Very long walk (1 hour and half one way) but it worth it. They built a hide and we saw one of them!
Basic food, snorkelling good but not the best in Raja Ampat.
Recommend for 1 night or 2 for birdwatching.

  • What a beautiful, magical place ! What an amazing experience! A secluded sandy beach , wooden bungalows over the water and a coral garden full of colorful fish under my feet ! Daniel and his family are doing their best , and they are succeeding! The homestay is extra clean , tidy with natural decoration!
I could tell there is a lot of love put into it ! There is a proper shower and electricity runs almost the whole day. Food is absolutely amazing ! Fantastic snorkeling in the day , in the afternoon I would lay in the hammock smelling a light smoke of the fire of my dinner being cooked, watching out for dolphins crossing the bay !
Daniel took me in the forest to see the birds of paradise performing their mating dance ! I could hear the voice of David Attenborough (Planet Earth, BBC) in my mind describing this amazing performance..
Daniel’s English is more than enough to arrange everyday needs and even more. I fully recommend this homestay , especially when arriving to Raja Ampat , as it is very close to Wasai, after a long flight. I encountered no mosquitoes or any other insects in the homestay.
Just bring your snorkeling equipment, your big smile and enjoy what our beautiful earth has to offer.. I am so grateful to Daniel and his family! I really hope I come back.. Thank you so much !!

  • Weather was not so good when I came, but the stay was very beautiful and Boby is a good boat driver. Will come again when the weather is better.

  • Overall very good stay, nice activities (snorkeling, sunset hike) and don’t miss the day-trip to Wayag, it’s amazing. Food is very good, accommodation is nice and everyone is friendly.

However, I wouldn’t recommend it for a young woman travelling alone. The owner Boby can be very insistent in his attention, I didn’t feel comfortable and ended up leaving a day earlier than planned.

  • Beautiful homestay, great place to see the sunset, very comfortable. Amazing family, very kind. We even saw a dolphin and were taken on a great snorkelling trip. All day hot & cold water dispenser, shower with shower head. Beautiful reef. I would definitely come back here!

  • We stayed here for one night in March 2023. We would have loved to stay longer. Only two huts for rent. Very private. We enjoyed the good house reef and the great food. Very nice family. We missed the dolphines but we were lucky to see the blue bird of paradise on the hiking tour. We had a great time and recommend this place.

  • I spent three nights at this beautiful, serene place with Daniel and his family. I enjoyed a snorkel trip to the Urai wall which was lovely. The plentiful food with hot/cold water dispenser, the above the ground mattresses
and the shower attachment were welcome amenities. The dolphin parade in front of the bay was an extra treat! Very little English is spoken, but we always managed to find a way to communicate.

  • We, Ingrid and Sita from the Netherlands stayed for 5 nights at Yenkawe homestay and we had a very nice stay, it’ basic , but there is all you need. The coral and the fish in front of our house was beautifull, we enjoyed it every day. Daniël and his family are kind people and very helpfull. We made trip to a river not so far from Yenkawe, there are a lot of birds, we heard them but is was difficult to see them, In the evening when the Kuskus was eating the fruits in the tree, they called us so we could see this animal. Daniël his wife cooked our meals and we had every day fresh fish and it was delicious. We made a walk in the forest to see the paradise bird, but we heard them but we did not see the birds. It was hard to say goodbye to this lovely place an kind family. We can recommand thus place and when we come back to Raja Ampat, we go to Yenkawe.

  • We stayed 4 nights and we had a great time.
    We were the only guests.
Daniel and his family are very nice and discreet.
Welcome was nice, they showed us everything and cooked us some fried bananas. Food was very good with fish every day and well enough for the both of us.
Room overwater is big, next to the diner room. Bathroom is nice and on land.
It can be noisy because of the waves crashing just under the bungalow but with earplugs it’s fine and your forget about it once you get up and face the beautiful view and clear water.
Snorkeling was nice even if the water was blurred at the time so we couldn’t enjoy it fully.
Our favorite part was that dolphins passed in front, sometimes very close, every day at noon and around sunset.
    It was great to witness.
We went on a trip with Daniel to Kali Biru by car and boat and it was great.

We really enjoyed our time in Yengkawe and can only recommend it.

Thanks to them and take care.

  • We stayed here for 2 nights in February 2023. I thoroughly enjoyed that experience and I would really recommend it! The property looks just like the photos on this website, the water really is that crazy green colour and the overwater bungalows are picture-perfect. We did an early morning guided hike to look for the birds of paradise (the hiking trail starts just next to the accommodation) and unfortunately we were not very lucky and did not manage to see them, but this is nature and not a zoo. On the other hand we did have dolphins swimming RIGHT in front of our bungalow, and there was a baby black tip reef shark constantly hanging out in the shallow waters nearby. You really feel in touch with nature at this place! Our host Daniel went fishing every day to provide our food so even though the dishes were not very diverse it was still a delicious experience.

Some small reasons why I gave 4 and not 5 starfish:
    – the communication was quite difficult, so we could not arrange some of the tours we wanted (e.g. hiking to the view point over Kabui Bay) because we just couldn’t make our request understood. The family mostly stayed out of our way as much as possible, I appreciated the privacy but I regret not being able to interact with them more.
    – there is some miscommunication about the cost of the transfer from the ferry to the property, one-way it is 300,000 IDR *just* for the car that brings you most of the way there, but then 200,000 extra for the last 5 minutes of boat ride. Since it’s only ever possible to pay in cash, these things should be clearer from the start to avoid unpleasant surprises.
    – on the last evening we had quite a bit of rain which did leak through the roof so we departed with the contents of our suitcases being quite wet. The sound of the waves crashing underneath the bungalow is surprisingly loud, so bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper…

Some other nice things to end on a positive note:
    – the house reef is really beautiful to snorkel in!
    – the beds were comfortable and mosquito nets intact
    – free coffee/tea, cold water and mini-bananas are available all day long in the dining area
    – there is better 4G reception than I feared (from time to time it doesn’t work but usually it does)
    – the bathroom actually has a hose attached to a shower head, which is also more convenient than the description makes you believe, and there was even toilet paper available!

In summary of the summary: you should stay here. I am sure it will be an accommodation you won’t easily forget.

    • Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review, Aurora, and for highlighting the fact that the pickup method can sometimes vary.

Pickups are usually by boat, directly from Waisai harbour. On occasion, as in your case, rain, sea conditions, or boat availability mean that road transport to Saporkren and a shorter boat ride is the most comfortable option. Cost is the same, either way.

  • We stayed here 2 nights till december 8th.
We had a large bungalow, raised bed, intact mosquito net. Small seating area outside and a wide jetty. The second bungalow is a little further away (was not occupied). The dining area is between the two bungalows.
The water dispenser dispenses cold and hot water! (We stayed in 7 Homestays – it was the only one with cold water!)
    There is almost always electricity.
On land: 2 rooms, each with a toilet and a real shower.
The nice family took good care of us, we had delicious fish with morning glory for lunch and dinner, and baked bananas in the morning.
At noon dolphins swim by, then a turtle came to the jetty to eat. You can snorkel left and right with no current. Our trip to the birds viewing place start at 2 pm: sweaty 30 min uphill, long wait for some bird – the tour is definitely better in the morning (but we didn’t want to get up so early!).
Yengkawe Homestay: we felt very comfortable! Thanks to the family.

  • Unfortunately this homestay was still under post-COVID renovations when I visited in mid-October 2022, but it is the location of a red bird-of-paradise lek, which I went to see. The location of the bungalows is enviable, over water on a secluded inlet with beautiful corals all around them.

It’s short hike to the red bird-of-paradise lek, and you can hear them calling from the bungalows! Lots of other birds around. There is a Wilson’s bird-of-paradise display site about a 5-minute boat ride away along the coast, owned by a friend of the owner of this homestay. It’s easy to arrange – I visited the red and Wilson’s bird-of-paradise spots twice each!

The owner, Ayob, is enthusiastic about animals. If you want to see some night animals, such as the endemic Waigeo spotted coucous or green tree python, just ask him for a night tour. If you want to see monitor lizards, sailfin dragons, or mangrove birds, ask him to arrange a river tour.

  • Very very kind family ,the bungalow overwater was nice.
The food was very good !!! and local too.
Boby speaks English and guided us over the most beautiful reefs off Raja Ampat, and was very patient while we were snorkeling.
Always something to eat and drink provided by the family on our snorkeling trips, even a very nice lunch on a private beach where Boby climbed in the coconut tree to get us fresh coconut -drink !!!
We went to some of the most beautifull reefs of Raja Ampat.
They have a very good boat with who you can reach every islands.
100% raccomanded if you really want discover raja ampat and the real life of the local people.
    Price for boat very good.
Boby brought us to Fam, our next destination and offered to take us to Pyanemo on the way…such a nice thing !!!
Thank you Boby and lovely family to make our stay unforgetable !!!

  • We stayed at Yengkawe beginning of January (sorry for not writing earlier). We met Ayup at Waisai and he brought us to the homestay which is only a short boat ride from the harbour. A relief after the long flight from Europe. From the small terrace in front of our over water bungalow we could see many whales and dolphins passing by, some of them were very close. We enjoyed the nice view from the bungalow as we were rather tired and therefor didn’t make any excursions. We also enjoyed the delicious food with many different spices cooked by Hesty. As in most other places, we were also here happy to have our own mosquito net. What we liked the most is to be over the ocean but in the same in the jungle with all this birds singing!

  • Very nice location with a good snorkeling at the bottom of the bungalow. The food is good and family is accomodating for transport, activities and beer! The cleanliness is not good, must be improved. Mattress, bed, mosquito net are in bad condition. The view is amazing and you can jump from your bungalow.
Good spot to see bird of paradise.

  • amazing place ,very very kind family , the bungalow overwater was spectacular , the food was very good and local too.
Bobby guide me all over the most beautiful islands and places around raja ampat, viewpoint , excursions and more , blu river , bird watching … they have a very good boat with who you can reach every islands. 100% raccomanded if you really want discover raja ampat and the real life of the local persons .

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Yengkawe!

Beautiful family, delicious food & plenty of it! Fresh fish, veggies and rice 🙂

The tours were great – by boat to snorkeling spots and caves, close to popular spots like Kabui passage and Friwen wall

Also an amazing early walk to see Birds of paradise!

House reef right off your front porch

We had a great stay! Thank you!

  • Jane, myself and our 2 kids Hannah (8) and Lily (5) stayed 2 nights here. Pak Daniel and his family were perfect hosts.
Food was fantastic…love the greens…..and family did not crowd us at all but were there when we needed stuff and also our kids played with Daniels kids (names escape me)……perfect balance…
Also the water is really as blue as the pics suggest…but the place is even better…what a start to Raja Ampat for us…. very cool spot…..
    .

  • We found Yengkawe Homestay is the perfect first stop after arriving in Raja Ampat. Especially if you have booked a liveaboard starting from Wasai afterwards. During our 2-day stay we were the only guests and it was very relaxing. We made a trip to the Jetty at the village and snorkeled at the House Reef (Which was not as nice as in Batanta).

We really liked the small bay and the smaller beach on high tide was not a drawback for us. We would go back anytime.

A small video of our stay in Raja Ampat (Yengkawe Homestay & Jetty trip at the beginning)

  • Nice homestay with bungalows over the water. The housereef is good with schools of fish, corals and clams. A little family of clown fish kept me amused for hours! Snorkelling trips to nearby reefs are really good (Tamaku reef especially)

  • Fantastic location, clean bungalows and good food.
Nice snorkelling just in front and the sunset is amazing.
The nearby village is Muslim and ladies in bikini are not welcome.
It is not a big deal to cover up with a shirt if you are not in the water 😉
    I recommend this place

    • Thank you so much for taking the time to review all the places you stayed at Manuela 🙂 Your reviews are really helpful and will be provided to the owners of the homestays concerned.

Just a point for visitors about dressing respectfully in villages: A village’s religion is irrelevant.

Nobody in Raja Ampat (or the rest of Indonesia for that matter) likes to see what they consider ‘naked’ people walking about in their villages. They will be too polite to ever say anything, but strolling around villages shirtless or in swimming gear gives offence, as this sign at the Christian village of Arborek tries to make clear.

Saudori Homestay, Pulau Manyaifun, West Waigeo, Raja Ampat

As you point out, Manuela – it’s not hard to carry a shirt and/or sarong to cover up with when entering villages.

      • Thanks for your replay!
After traveling far and wide throughout Indonesia and lots of Asian and Muslim or not countries, I think I perfectly know that it is not appropriate to go around the various villages wearing a bikini (I would not do it in Italy either, where I live). I misunderstood probably: we were asked to cover us staying on the terrace of our bungalow that is quite far from the village.
I thought it was appropriate to report it to the ladies who could go in the future. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to specify 🙂

  • Stayed here mid February for one night, food was not that that great, accommodation very simple with some parts of the roof leaking. Place advertises 20 set of snorkel & mask when I visited they only had 1 set. There is a nice house reef close to the homestay & phone signql is good for arranging onward travel arrangement.

  • We recently spent 6 nights at Saudori homestay and saw the bioluminescent plankton every night! Since we wanted to photograph them, every night we unscrewed the light bulbs all around the homestay and the hosts were very patient about this, haha.

Boat trips for snorkeling were very short (~30 min in the water?) but there’s a huge school of fish right around the bungalows as well as some baby sharks around the mangroves nearby so we mostly just snorkeled there.

The food was basic (as expected this far from the bigger islands) but very good and plentiful! You could tell they gave us as much variety as they could.

There was one thing that was sad to see, which was local kids bullying an injured dog and a very skinny puppy that lives around the homestay. It’s not the hosts’ fault, but we did ask a fellow traveler who speaks Bahasa to talk to them, the kids, and their parents about being kinder to the animals, so hopefully this will get better. The skinny puppy hung out with us most days/nights and was just the sweetest little girl. If you visit, please give her some love (and food/water)!

  • We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful spot. We saw the red bird of paradise from the hide and walked to the village and saw the children fishing with bamboo spears. The coral was a bit broken from a recent storm but still pleasant for snorkelling.

  • We booked a stay here in July 2018 but found that the description did not match what was on offer. There were no snorkelling sets and the excursions were very expensive (when the boat was available). As the property is in a small cove, it doesn’t have a beach or anywhere to go which meant we felt a little trapped at times and spent most our time in our room or on the deck. This was enjoyable, but not for 3 whole days.
Food was not as great as other places we stayed and the prices were also a little more expensive.

Aside from this, this Homestay is in a beautiful place, with excellent sea-facing huts and friendly locals. Daniel is really knowledgeable and took us on an amazing sunrise trek to see a bird of paradise from his hide. There are positives, but the description needs updating.

    • Hi Liam & Briony

Out of date information can sometimes be a problem, because (i) we’re not based in Raja Ampat and (ii) some homestay owners don’t realise the importance of advising us of changes. Which is what makes guest reviews like yours so valuable – thank you for taking the time to post it 🙂

We wouldn’t have expected things like a beach to change though! Is the small beach shown in the photos no longer there?

We’ll do our best to get someone from the Homestay Association to visit Yengkawe and pass on the latest to us.

      • There is technically a beach there. It isn’t somewhere that should be promoted as a feature/activity of the place though as it is;
        (A) tiny and covered with boats
        (B) entirely shaded all day
        (C) can only enter the sea from there at certain times of day due to the rocks and coral.
It’s a small cove, for getting visitors in and out of the resort.

  • Me and my boyfriend are going to Raja Ampat for 5 nights in October! I absolutely love the look of this place and we are thinking it would be nice for a couple of nights before heading to kri to do some diving! Can you tell me whether Yengkawe would be able to provide us with a boat transfer to Kri for our next stay or to arrange it with the hotel in Kri?

    Thanks in advance
    Hannah.

  • We really enjoyed our two night stay at Yengkawe Homestay. Daniel was punctual in picking us up from Waisai and always friendly! The over water bungalows are amazing (basic, but have raised beds and are over a stunning coral reef), and there’s a trail you can walk for about 2km, then climb down a ladder and snorkel back to the homestay. Food basic but good! Daniel also took us on a hike to an observation point to see red birds of paradise lekking. We saw two males and could hear others around the area. Highly recommend.

    • Hi,

When you stayed was there just one over water bungalow? If there was more than one were the next to each other or private?

      Thanks in advance
      Hannah.

  • Our time Here was amazing!!!! Daniel thank you sou much you are such a good host and your family too

The place it’s surrounded by Nature, jungle, corals…. Birds…. Totally recommend! The best in waigeo far…

Thank you from Alejandro y georgi

  • Luar biasa. Stayed here for 4 days, perfect place to disconnect, enjoy the ocean and the jungle. Thanks Daniel and Elia!

  • I had the privilege to stay ay Daniel Mambrassar’s Yengkawe Homestay from 19-02-2018 until 23-02-2018

Although the description in the site stayrajaampat.com needs an update (see Mathew’s comments) this place was an excellent start for my adventures at Raja Ampat. It’s very secluded, extremely peacefull and Daniel has got a beautiful family.
Food was ok, but what do you expect when you decide to go ‘off grid’ ?
    I’ll definitely be back !

I made a little clip to give those who are interested a quick peak into the wonders of Yengkawe Homestay.

    https://vimeo.com/259709409

    Hope you enjoy.

  • Pak Daniel and The family are so friendly !

My husband and I were so in love with this homestay.
Looking at the open sea from water bungalow and sleeping with wave sounds was so paradise .

We were they only guest that time and we have the beach on our own ?

My husband even went for handline fishing with daniel and cought 6 tunas for dinner , My husband was so pround and happy.

Everyday we had fresh big fish and just too much for Us 3 people ( including my 4yrs old son )

    Beautiful little gems ?

  • I have a booking in this homestay for 7 th march. I tried to contact with the owner by phone but it was impossible, not any answer. We need the pick up from Waisai harbour as we request in our booking. The problem is that we shall arrive at Waisai by plane not ferry. So, we arrive earlier than the ferry and we can stay at the harbour around 14.30 (plane land at 14). So, the owner of the homestay can wait for us at this time?? Thank you in advance

  • Few times here now. Still one of the best experience as you can be as private as you want! Overlooking to the west where you can see sunset behind Gam, with view of Kri, Mansuar and Friwen.

Family speak little English but that doesn’t mean they aren’t helpful. Very cute little family with kids just fun to hang around with.

Rooms are all update now with proper bed and clean sheets:

1 big overwater bungalow with 2 connected rooms sleeps 2 each room.

1 private overwater bungalow sleeps 2.

    No more big room.

Dinning area is new and updated.

Toilets are updated with concrete floor with shower head along with traditional Mandi.

Unlike many other homestays with sandy sea grass to reef drop off, Yengkawe has a tiny beach with plentiful of coral on both ends.

It’s like a wall snorkeling experience. There is a private little small beach you can just snorkel 10 mins to.

A very good homestay to start and end your trip.

  • Our choice for Yengkawe Homestay had been based on the good reviews by former visitors on this website: quiet place, secluded bay, lush jungle setting, good snorkeling right at the doorstep, friendly family… Happily all these dreams definitely came 100% true! We stayed 3 nights (of which 2 as the only guests, adding some extra to the feeling of remoteness) and regretted to leave.

At the moment of our stay there were 3 rooms on stilts over the water: one in a private bungalow, the other two shared a separate building next to it. All these rooms were basic (with beds instead of mattresses on the ground though), but in good shape, neat and clean, and with nice private verandah, from which you can enjoy the beautiful sunsets over the water. Clean sheets, pillows, towels and good mosquito nets are provided. Our mattress was a little thin.
There were a few more bungalows on land under the trees, but these looked older and less attractive (and in need of some renovation). Obviously they were not used to accommodate guests at that time.

Shared toilet and separate shower (mandi) are basic as described, but well-functioning and perfectly cleaned at least once a day. Same same for the ‘restaurant’ and the surrounding grounds, including the wooden walkway over the water to our bungalows: everything was in good condition and well looked after. This we absolutely appreciated.

Meals (no à la carte!) are served 3 times a day in the atmospheric dining shelter. Coffee, tea, hot & cold water you can take whole day. The food could be better and at least more varied: we had fried bananas standard for breakfast and always the same cold (!) lunch & dinner, consisting of plain rice, boney fish and a (simple, single) vegetable. Some improvement here would make a stay at Yengkawe surely more delightful.

Of the excursions we only went on an early morning jungle walk to see the Red Birds of Paradise. Great walk (good shoes and flashlight are essential) and a memorable experience to see these beautiful birds waking up high in their trees… For the rest we snorkeled around in the bay, read our books and lounged at the lovely jetty, while watching the children playing in the water, listening to the sounds of the jungle, and enjoying the ever changing views across the bay. The perfect holiday!

PS forget about the massage: no reflexology when we were there (the information at the website needs an update).

Daniel is a very friendly and modest guy, who’s always around when you need him.

We definitely do recommend Yenkawe Homestay. Thanks Daniel and family for having us as yousts. We had an stay. Sampai jumpa lagi.

  • I have spent with my girlfriend 5 of my most beautiful days in this homestay. Home places in Raja Ampat lack some basic western comforts such as warm water, internet connection, continuous electrical power etc. but still this is to me the definition of Paradise.

If calculating to go there go for Yengkawe Homestay, the owner/host, Daniel is such a great guy. He speaks almost no english and still made our stay hilarious. He drove us everywhere with his boat, walked us on the top of the mountain to see the birds and most importantly took us with him in the nearby village to celebrate NYE with the locals.

There our many experiences you can buy but what we did in Raja Ampat with Daniel is just above the extraordinary.

Hats off Daniel, i hope you ll have anything you wish for in life..

  • Thanks Daniel!
I stay 4 Nights in a good Bungalow over the water ,the tour to Kabui Bay was beautyful, only the food was in other homestays better.

  • The only positive i can say about this homestay, that the people were very friendly and helpful! The rest…..food was average, hard to communicate in English, even difficult to speak bahasa. The beds were not very good, it is definitely not a luxurous resort. You should change the story about this homestay….no reflexology, no a la carte. But maybe i am a little spoilt, because i spent 7 nights in Mandarin Homestay. This was a great experience!!

  • Great place! Really good service, nice trips and the family is so friendly and helpful.. 5 starfish to Daniel and the rest ?

  • Very quiet secluded location. The only walks are steep hikes up the hills through forest but worthwhile.

  • Saudori Homestay was originally known as Waryawer Homestay, which closed in 2016. Saudori has reopened under new management. All the comments below were from before Waryawer’s closure.

    • Hi, I’d like to go to Saudori in the next days but the number is either not active anymore or out of coverage. I’m calling from Indonesia. Is there another number to call? Another question: how do I hook up with other visitors to share boat rides…is there a Facebook page or anything similar? Thank you.

      • Hi Lorenzo

Yes – as noted above, there’s virtually no phone signal available at Manyaifun, and the above phone number is the only contact method provided to us by Saudori.

If you want to make a booking and are sure of the dates you want, simply use the booking form above and SRA will do its best to contact the homestay and confirm the booking for you. Read this page so you understand how that works.

If you are already in Raja Ampat, the Waisai Information Center will be able to help you.

You’re welcome to post on our facebook page to see if you can meet up with other travellers. The answers to these and most other questions visitors ask can be found in the information linked from our step by step guide.

        • Hi SRA,
Thanks a lot for the prompt and informative reply 🙂 I finally contacted Sea Fan and will stay by them. Thanks a lot again.

  • Had a great time at yengkawe! Gorgeous spot, very convenient location but also very private. There are now three huts over the water and an overwater path to the jetty (and the huts). A lovely bird watching platform for the birds of paradise observation. The food was absolutely delicious! Like amazingly delicious. Lovely people, we had a great time 🙂 thanks Daniel and Mathias!

  • Yengkawe was the last of the 5 homestays we stayed at during our Raja Ampat trip in March 2017. It took us almost 3 hours by boat from Sea Fans homestay in Manyaifun island through the beautiful and peaceful Kabui Passage but it was less than 30 minutes from Waisai (good to start/end your Raja Ampat trip as a transit point).

If you want a place close to Waisai with enough privacy (no other homestays in the vicinity), Yengkawe is a good option. Located in a small, secluded private beach with soft, white sands and turquoise blue water shaded by big lush trees, it’s an awesome place for swimming or just relaxing. You can also snorkel from the beach or jetty (we didn’t have time to do it).

We loved our 2 night stay at the only over-water bungalow there (the owner was in the process of building another one next to it) which was connected with the rest of the homestay through a long narrow raised wooden path along the edge of the forrest. From the small patio or jetty next to it we could watch sunset, fishing boats passing by with view of Gam island across the strait. At night, bright stars decorated the clear sky.

Food tasted just fine with enough quantity (no a la carte menu as stated here).
We didn’t get to see the birds as it rained half way and the paths became quite slippery (were not as easy as we thought/were told).

The snorkelling at Friwen Wall (about 15 minutes by boat) was great: colorful soft corals and plentiful fishes. Mateus accompanied us in the water. He was excellent in spotting things such as nudibranch, moray eels, etc. I handed over my camera and he took cool pictures many while free diving. We ended the snorkelling in a shallow water (with white sandy bottom), making it easier to re-board the boat (no stairs).

The Friwen Wall snorkelling on long boat costed Rp 500,000 which was not cheap considering the close distance but not too bad. When asked about excursions to places such as Kabui and Urai Kecil island, the price Mateus quoted (over Rp 2,000,000) was on the high side. You should be able to bargain though as Kate Philp here said she did.

We left in the early morning (7.30 am) to Waisai. The sea was calm, mirror-like, sun was rising and we passed the village (Sapokren), quite a number of homestays, dive centers and a few resorts in Waigeo island on the way. We arrived in Waisai just when the ferry ticket office opened (8 am) for the 9 am departure.

Thank you Pace Mambrasar, Daniel, Mateus and wife (our cook) – nice family!

  • We loved Yengkawe! we were the only guests for 3/4 nights we stayed & we had the lovely hut over the water. We swam in the most amazing bioluminescence straight off the hut on the first night – not long after we had a sunset swim with the dolphins that pass by regularly. Mathew took us to see the red bird of paradise one morning & we watched them display for nearly an hour- he also took us for a fabulous snorkelling trip with blacktip reef sharks, moray eels, painted crayfish & scores of Nudibranchs.the reef out front of the Homestay is lovely- good coral anemones & even a baby seasnake ? Daniel is a gentle soul who delighted in our enjoying their wildlife & peace & quiet & Dewi cooked really great food- different fish every meal, with a variety of spices-well worth a stay if you love nature & want to relax in a quiet little hut with incredible sunsets & a lovely Papuan family

  • We really loved our time at Yengkawe (we stayed there for 3 nights from 26-29 March) and would definitely recommend it. We stayed in the over water bungalow which is the best one – it actually has a raised bed and the terrace over the water is lovely. You can jump in for a snorkel from the jetty just next to the bungalow and follow the coast along. Not the same as Kri, but still plenty to see. The beach & the jungle around the homestay are really picturesque. We did the Kabui Bay trip (after some bargaining) and it was really fun and worthwhile. We hiked to see the red bird of paradise and also the Wilson’s (note that this is a 1.5hr tough trek through the jungle each way), although unfortunately didn’t have any luck. Definitely not a la carte, but the food was really delicious (fish, rice, greens) and there was plenty of it. We also weren’t sure whether there was massage available as there didn’t seem to be. Mattheo and his family were just lovely and very helpful, although English is limited when Daniel isn’t around.

  • I stayed there with my good friend for 2 nights 23-25 January and again 2 nights 1-3 February. I enjoyed the lovely hut over the sea which has a two layers terrace over the sea. There are small shelves inside the room and one big bed. We had a mattress on the floor and both the bed and mattress came with sheets, pillows and mosquito nets. The family is just lovely. Daniel, Mattheus and Gomer are very helpful and Daniel’s wife is lovely two. So are their 6 children, who entertain you all the time. We did several boat trips in their small outrigger, just the 2 of us and prices were very reasonable after negotiations. We also walked in the jungle to Sakorpren village which is lovely plus up the hill to watch the Red Bird of Paradise in the early morning/late afternoon. Gasoline prices are still too high in Raja Ampat, but that will hopefully change now that the Indonesian government is selling the gasoline at national level prices in Sorong. I can certainly recommend this place.

  • We stayed 6 nights at this lovely secluded Homestay. Daniel, Matteus, Gomer(G) and the rest of the family made this a very pleasant stay! They were very kind but a bit shy, so give them a chance to warm up to you. The food was good but not as nice as other homestays we stayed at. The best thing about the Homestay was the new over water bungalow( btw Doug you can add it to the page so new travelers know….thanks) Fantastic bungalow! Definitely the one to have! We stayed 1 night in the on land bungalow and the humidity was unbelievable. Snorkeling at friwen wall is a must! We also did the Kabui bay trip…..lovely in it’s own way but doesn’t come close to Wayag. Reminds us of a smaller Ha Long bay. If you want a quiet and relaxing getaway, I would reccomend this place. Thank you to the family for having us. Best wishes and good luck to all! David and Lizette(Spain)

  • We had a wonderful stay 2 days earlier and 2 days after. They have a new hut over the water which was fabulous. Their family oriented hospitality are warmth and great help. We did all the snorkeling nearby areas including the an hour trek to the village nearby. Kabui bay is of similar to Pianemo island and is cheaper to go.
Daniel & Mathius were very helpful. We would come back and stay there again.

  • I’m interested in this guesthouse.
I noticed to prices for snorkeling. About 200 Euro per tour. This looks very expensive. Are these prices ok?
Are there other option to use a boat and go snorkeling.

I can take my inflatable canoe with me.

    Kind regards,
    Peter
    Netherlands

    • Hi Peter –

Sorry to be a bit slow to reply: We’ve just returned from Raja Ampat islands with no internet.

You don’t need to join a tour to enjoy great snorkelling – there’s good snorkelling off the beach at the homestay. There are other closer, cheaper options too. A canoe would open up a host of further alternatives, although having a guide along is always a good idea. (Snorkelling alone is not!)

Boat travel is expensive in Raja Ampat and Yengkawe’s prices are about average. Just in case we didn’t make it clear in the text, we’ll repeat that those prices are shared by total trip participants too, so you’d only be paying EUR 200 if you were the only person on the tour.

    • It’s all negotiable. Some boat rides are way too high especially if you are alone. Definitely not paying 200 euros for nearby trips!

  • Absolutely fabulous stay in Yengkawe , Birds of paradise and snorkelling was to die for. They also made an arrangement with our diving buddies and picked us up or drop off every time when we went diving.(with Marley Dive)

highly recommend this place and wish u guys all the best. hope to see you again!!

  • I stayed out here in August 2014, and forgot to leave a review. It is a wonderful homestay, and Matteo and family are amazing. Fantastic birding out back – we went out to find a Wilson’s bird of paradise (and found one), and found just about everything else too from crowned pigeons to hornbills, red birds of paradise..

I was not able to dive from here, but it is still absolutely worth staying here if you can manage a couple days without diving. Raja Ampat has so much to offer above the water as well, and it would be a shame to miss it!

  • I stayed here with my boyfriend for 2 nights in September 2016.
It was a lovely stay! The people are very friendly! Matteo knows everything about the birds. If you hear a sound you don’t recognize, just ask him, he will point out wich bird it is on his small birdbook and he can repeat them reaaally good! 🙂 Unfortunately we did not feel well so we did not do a lot of trips with them, but we did the Red Bird of Paradise tour wich was awesome! I really recommend you to go and see Wilson Bird of Paradise with them, because you might not get another change since these birds do not live on the smaller Islands.

You are right in the jungle. It is absolutely fabulous. The sea is so clear and clean and the view you have when you are on their jetty is crazy beautiful. The snorkelling is nice although you can not compare it to Kri ofcourse. The sea is calm so you can swim outside their little bay to another if you want to.

As for the accomodation, the houses are very nice and clean. The food was the most plentifull and one of the best we had in our 4 weeks of Raja Ampat. Everyday the most delicious fish (but everytime another kind of fish!!), vegetables, rice, sometimes noodles. This is for breakfast, lunch and dinner, so maybe you have to get used to having it for breakfast as wel 🙂 They even made the absolute most delicious fried bananas we have eaten in our whole trip as an afternoon snack. They do their best so much to make sure you enjoy your stay. They are a bit shy we though, or maybe it only seemed that way because they want to give you all the space you need.

As for communication, they are very fast in answering and when we got off the ferry they were there immediately and we did not have to look for them, they found us.

I really recommend you to stay at least 2 or 3 nights at their beautiful place. Do the bird tours! We want to thank the staff for a great start of our trip 🙂

  • We stayed there for few nights, pop over to another homestay, then back for another almost 2 weeks. It was AMAZING! Mambrasar family members are just very kind and giving. Everybody has their part to play in keeping the place clean, settings things done and sorted for us, dinner, making sure we are taken care of. It’s a true Papuan experience.

Yengkawe house reef is amazing too, you can snorkelling up north to the next beach and go as far as you like to, or south towards Saporkren village, we even got invited to a special church service for the village.

If you love local experience, getting to know people and how they live, learn much about people and their way of living and lives, it’s the place to go. It’s truly rewarding to stay there.

If you want to help, bring some items for the kids, maybe learning materials, or some basic supplies like light bulbs etc from Lorong if you can, because things are really very expensive in Waisai, it’s also a good idea to ask Daniel or Arup or Matteos if they need your help to bring supplies.

It’s really a cool place to sleep and at times you might need a blanket at night.

  • We stay 4 nights after the long travel from Europe. Quiet guest house with friendly Esthy who is a very good cookwoman ! We are gone with Mateo see the birthparadise early in the morning. It was fantastic and very interesting.
This place is very nice for the snorkelling , we don’t dive here. It’s very a good place for a few day !! Thanks for all.

  • Hey, it says there is diving here. But I contacted the diving agency, and they replied
” We dont take people who stay with yenkawe to make the excursion and dive everyday by boat . Actually we have one baranch dive centre in warimpurem and yenkankanes homestay but only offer night dive and house reef dive at the moment. If you want to do dive trip you can spend your some time at kri island and dive with our base dive centre here, because here at Kri island we have our own boat to do some dive trips.

    Best wishes
    Reuben”

    • Which is a shame. I really wanted to stay with them. From reading their webpage, they have massage available, good food, good cell reception, and no rats! Do you know another place similar?

      • That’s correct Aaron – WDA’s branch center at Saporkren only does does house reef and night dives at that location. We don’t know of any other homestay that offers massage, but there are plenty with good phone reception, good food and no rats. Use the advanced seach on the accommodation page to select the features that are important to you and quickly find matching homestays.

  • We had the most amazing few days here, it’s such a beautiful spot, quiet, relaxing and with it’s own tiny beach. The food was great and the rooms were all well set-up, definitely one of our favourites

  • We had a fantastic time at Yengkawe Homestay! The family was extremely kind and helpful. Moreover, the brothers all had impressive knowledge about birds and wildlife in general and took us on exciting trips.
    Thank you again!

  • We as a family with two boys choose this homestay as the first, coming from Sorong and we all had a fantastic nature adventure.
The first day on our way to the very nice vilage, we just missed a huge Python who killed one of the dogs.
Food was plentiful: rice with kind of spinach or beens with very well prepared fish, every day different.
Even in the morning you get fish and fish for breakfast, but we did not have problems with that as it tasted very good.
Other places, like on Gam only serve only cheap donuts as breakfast..
The best food we had during our stay at R4 (we had two other homestays, one at Gam, one at Kri) and some nice banana fritters or pancakes as a snack in the afternoon.
Matteow took us for the early morning trip (04.00 h, i even had to woke him up..) to the spectacular Wilson’s bird of Paradise, which only exists on Waigeo and the more common red BOP, which are high up in the trees (about 30 meter), so for good pictures you really need a good lens.
The wilson’s is more close and is really a fantastic creature!
Snorkelingwise there are better places in R4 but you will see plenty of fish and lobsters! Further away there is a deserted beach on which they start building some new homestays..
Thanks Yenkawe for having one of our most beautiful stays ever!

  • We stayed at Yengkawe the first 3 nights (5. – 8. August 16) after a long journey from Europe. It was the perfect place to relaxe and get into the Raja Ampat mood – only a short hop from Waisai, but nevertheless a secret place. You are at the beach but in the same time in the prime forest!
The family running Yengkawe is very warm and welcoming, especially Ayup and his wife Esti. Food was delicious. And we enjoyed the snack on the jetty at sunset. The bungalow was very clean and decorated in a lovely manner.
We made a trip to Kabui Bay together with Ayup and Matteo. They showed us a impressive flowstone cave with a lot of bats. We made nice drift snorkelling and climed the viewing platform at Warikaf homestay. We can recommend this excursion.
Esti was a great help organising the transfer to Birie Island. She tried over and over again to contact our next homestay. We warmly recommend this homestay.

  • We stayed here 2 nights: 19/8/2016 – 21/8/2016
the food is great, little variety though, but the surprise of a little snack at 4pm makes it all good 🙂 you have the reef in front of the bay, the jetty to rest and look at the amazing sunsets! we went to look for the 2 types of birds of paradise: wilson & red. Matteo is a great guide!
the people are LOVELY they really make all the effort to make your stay as pleasant as possible!
oh and the shower is AMAZING! the best we’ve had during our stay in Raja Ampat! 🙂 the bungalows are clean and big

  • I stayed over for two days at the end of Feb. had a great time and would recommend this homestay if you prefer seclusion. Food was plentiful and good quality coffee as much As you want. Rooms were clean and big. Ablutions were clean and enough water to clean yourself. Best part is the view from the beach and the little bay in front. Nice small reef for snorkel and lots of life. Even had a turtle visit us in the bay. Last morning had some dolphins play just outside the bay. The owner took us on a bird watching trek one morning, 5:00 start and a good climb but was well worth it. Saw Bird Of Paradise a few times, cuckoos, snakes and a few other birds I don’t know the name of. They have build a few lookouts so you can spend a lot of time in the forrest at the back of the homestay.

    • Forgot to mention. Very good mobile reception everywhere at this homestay. Good idea to buy yourself a local sim card, 2gb was enough for two weeks around the islands. Make sure you know how much data and how much phone call allowance you get to start of with. Some cards have big data but small phone all allowance. Waisai actually has 4g reception.

  • Good stay,nice homestay
The food , fish was delicious
Possibility to watch paradise birds and panoramavieuw
Transfer cost 300.000rp one way per boat from Wasai

  • in november I stayed 3 nights here. The food was really good, but what is resort style service? To me there was no difference to many other homestays. And no beer!
The snorkeling was not great. Ayup brought me to the village. There it was better. But comparing to other places in RA it was not so good.
The homestay is in a beautyfull gorge surrounded by trees. So it is less hot than in other places. And it has a platform where you can sunbath or enjoy the sunset.
The family is friendly and helpful and the kids very nice.

    • Hi Elisa and thinks for your reviews 🙂

On reflection, we guess “resort style services” is perhaps overstating the case! (We were only referring to Yengkawe’s offering of an a la carte menu and massage/reflexology – services as yet only available at resorts in Raja Ampat.)

  • Just back from Raja Ampat. I ve been to 10 homestays, but Yengkawe has the nicest setting of all. Situated in a small junglegorge you have the beautiful smell und sounds of the jungle while you´re on a small and lovely beach. there is good snorkeling to both sides and the family is very nice especially their five kids are so cute … But keep in mind that you are in the jungle, if you want to sunbathe or get your things dry you have to go to their jetty or snorkel to the next beach to the right. it should take you ten minutes. I go back next year and for sure I will visist them again.

  • While the owners at speak Yengkawe spoke limited English and the accommodations were simple, we enjoyed our stay because it was clean, located in a beautiful cove, and best of all, the owners took us to see the red bird of paradise’s mating dance in the morning! Also, they were very accommodating in helping us get money in town and make our ferry back to Sarong in time.

  • Great place to stay if you like hideaway. Good snorkeling and great jungle.
I loved the trek to see the Red BOP and the panorama view on other islands..its just amazing. The food was very good and family so very friendly.

  • Excellent place and lovely family and people. Abraham was a very nice guy and speaks very good english. Ayup and Daniel were very friendly. We had a great stay, great snorkelling in other islands and even in front of our house – dolphins, thousands of fishes, barracudas, etc. He went diving to the Raja Ampat Diving resort, which has very good equipment and nice people.

  • Where do i begin…
I and my husband went to Waryawer in October 2015 and had a WONDERFUL stay.
    The best parts:
Getting to know the village life in Raja Ampat. The people are so calm and always in good spirits, playing football, making coconut oil, swimming in the beach, taking out their boats for a quick getaway..
Owner Timothius is a pleasant man and extremely polite. We were welcomed with refreshments and snacks, and immediately after, lunch was served.
Bioluminescent plankton. It was absolutely MAGICAL to see the plankton glow under the bungalow at night…
The sealife- On the evening of our arrival, a HUGE school of fish (about 1000 im guessing) came under our bungalow and danced in the water for about 15 minutes- it was an incredible sight which i did not witness on Kri Island.

    The good parts:
Food is delicious, fresh and light but limited to fish and rice as it is difficult to bring vegetables to the village. Breakfast is even better!
Timothius does not speak English but his colleague Paul does.

The bad part is that i stayed only for one night as i had to leave for Waisai next day 🙁 I regret not having stayed longer.

Overall i would go back again and would recommend everyone to stay here when in Raja Ampat.

Thanks Stayrajaampat website for helping us find such places!

  • Lovely family at this homestay. Best Food we had in Raja Ampat. It is a bit dark and humid in this place. Jetty is very Nice for sunbathing. Tour to Kabui bay was very good. Ayup speaks English very well. Perfect!

  • Hallo,
we are planning to go to Waryawer Homestay in November. As I can see they offer only tours to Wayag from March-July. Is this right? Can anybody give me some information. Looking at other homestays which offer tours to Wayag they offered it all over the year. Thank you in advance for your feedback.

    • Yes Aleksandra, that’s right. Waryawer’s tours are by longboat, which are not as good in rough seas as the speedboats some other homestays use, so for safety’s sake they only offer the tours when seas are calm.

  • Totalmente recomendable.

  • I have many things to say about Yengkawe, and the first is: Stay here! It’s a beautiful location, and you can catch sunsets off the jetty. The folks at the homestay are really friendly and will go out of their way to ensure that you enjoy your stay. I left for a different island for a couple days, and when I returned to Yengkawe it really felt like I was coming home. My last morning tour with Ayub was fantastic – Wilson’s BoP, Red BoP, hornbills, groups of screaming parrots, white cockatoos, crowned pigeons, eagles, even a cave..
Be sure to ask if you can paddle around in one of the little boats – some days they use it for fishing, but otherwise you can explore the Waigeo coast with it.
    I will be back here.

  • In November 2014 we visited this wonderful place. The bungalows are simple but comfortable, with clean mattresses and mosquito nets.
Food was always good and plenty. In front of the beach there is some good snorkelling too.

We made a bird watching tour early morning and saw both, Red bird of paradise and Wilson bird. Also we made a tour to
Manta sandy, unfortunately there were no Mantas but on the way back we stopped at Cape Kri and had our best snorkelling
    at Raja Ampat.

The Family at Yengkawe was very warm hearted and made us feel like staying with good friends.

    • Hello travellers,
Same question as Eva in february : who can give us some report about Waryawer homestay ? Who was there already ?
We will be around in July & August…..
      Thanks.

      • Hi Eva, Luc and Els,

I went to this homestay and island in January 2015 for 4 nights. They have 3 rooms only over the water. They are quite small and clean. The food is nice, mostly fish everyday. They use a long boat to pick you up in Waisai and to go to other islands such as piyanemo, arborek and wayag. If you are looking for budget and efficient trip, you have to take it. The island is in the middle of everywhere, so it is easy to go everywhere such as Piyanemo, Arborek and Wayag. For snorkelling, you just jump from the homestay, so many fish and the schooling fish too. For me, I will come back to that homestay. Unfortunately, the owner, Mr Timotius and his assistant, Paulus, could not speak English. However, they are very kind and helpful, and expert with the sea and weather in Raja 4. I wish to come back to Raja 4 this October. Last information, the boat capacity is 8 people max. It is better to share the boat with the others, if any. Have a nice trip!

        • Did anybody a Trip to wayag by Thimotius? How long is it (oneway)? How much time could you stay at the wayag Islands?
          Thank you

  • We had an absolutely amazing stay with Pak Hamdani and the Mambrassar family. They made such an effort to make us feel at home and were respectful of our privacy, as well as being open and honest with us. We loved staying at this Homestay, located in a little cove, which provided cool shade, had a perfect white sandy beach, gentle breeze, NO rats (like Kri has), and stunning coral to view right off the beach! We would be happy to recommend this place to anyone seeking a more intimate and personal feel of Papua and its wonderful people!
