Raja 4 Nature Lodge is located next to a shallow jungle pond, just behind a curve of white sand beach on Pulau Birie’s northern shore.
Raja 4 nature offers a rarity in Raja Ampat homestay accommodation: A 2-room VIP bungalow with an ensuite bathroom. Unlike at other 2 room places, the rooms can’t be booked individually, so you won’t be sharing the bungalow. (Yes, single occupancy is fine! You can have the whole place to yourself if you want to.)
One room has a raised double bed, while the other has a single raised bed.
Sheets, pillows, bolsters, and mosquito nets are supplied. Bathtowels are also provided. Each room has a room light switch and power outlets for charging devices.
The bungalow ensuite bathroom has a western style toilet, dip-mandi bathing, clothes hooks, a large mirror and (another rarity!) a shelving unit for your clothes and gear.
Meals are served on the bungalow verandah. Drinking water, tea and coffee are always freely available.
Electricity is provided by generator and is available from sunset to around midnight. If you’re willing to pay a little more for the extra fuel required, the generator can be left running all night.
Only a weak and variable phone signal is received at Raja 4 Nature Lodge, so expect to be offline while at the homestay.
The nearest village is Arefi. Arefi is about a 20 minute boat ride away, and a decent phone signal and data connection is usually available there. Basic supplies can be purchased in Arefi’s small local shops if you run low.
It’s especially important at a remote homestay like Raja 4 Nature that you take all your inorganic rubbish away with you when you leave. You’ll definitely be contributing to the trashing of paradise if you don’t.

Raja 4 Nature Lodge offers pickups from both Waisai and Sorong.
Only select the Waisai pickup checkbox on the booking form if you want to be picked up from Waisai.
For pickups from Sorong – or anywhere other than Waisai – you will need to contact Raja 4 Nature after booking. (Contact details are provided in booing confirmation emails.)
Public Boat to Batanta
If you have plenty of time, you don’t mind a bit of discomfort, and you want spend as little as possible on transport costs, then there are cargo boats that you can use to get to Batanta. (Obviously, if you are going to arrive on the cargo boat, then you don’t need to request a Waisai pickup when submitting the booking form above.)

Activities
Be sure to bring your snorkelling gear, because Pulau Birie and the nearby islands provide excellent snorkelling. In addition to the usual hosts of fish and coral, it’s possible to see turtles, dugongs, mantas and dolphins.

Birie’s jungles host a huge range of birds and their dawn chorus is a delight.
The villages of Arefi and Yensawai are relatively nearby and well worth exploring. Your hosts can provide snorkelling and sightseeing trips to all the local attractions.
Raja 4 Nature Lodge is fabulous place for your own private tropical island retreat. A sandy beach (at low tide!), the music of the jungle and ocean, and the lack of phone and online intrusions, and no neighbours make relaxation easy.
Diving with Raja 4 Nature Lodge
Diving is available at Kandipi Dive Center at Pulau Birie. Kandipi offers free transport to and from Biryei Homestay.
Sunday Diving: Only available after conclusion of church services at 1100.

Note that the dive pricing is per person for two dives. When we asked for clarification, this is what we were told:

We booked and paid for this homestay two months in advance only to find out a few days before our check in date – only after I contacted them to make pick up arrangements – that they were overbooked and could no longer accommodate us. We were given a full refund but this was still a major inconvenience as it was high season and left us scrambling for accommodation last minute.
Beautiful location, amazing hospitality and delicious food. I agree with everything in the reviews below, Ronce and his wife Falda go above and beyond to make you feel at home. Highlights were definitely the food, having access to a small kayak to visit the surrounding areas for sunset, joining Ronce and his family to church on Sunday to experience a bit if the local culture. Even though I am not religious, it was great to get a taste of what life is like in Raja outside of the bubble of a guesthouse. On the last night they made us a barbecue and invited us into their house to share a delicious meal. Ronce also made an effort to bring us to Sorong the day of our flight. There is also a dive centre nearby which we used to explore diving in dayang and the house reef which was amazing.
Insgesamt waren wir in drei verschiedenen Homestays, davon 10 Tage bei Ron und seiner lieben Family und wir wären sehr gerne noch viel länger geblieben. Ron und seine Familie sind unglaublich liebe und absolut ehrliche Menschen, die immer versuchen den Urlaub zu etwas besonderem zu machen. Die Hütte hat zwei getrennte Schlafzimmer (ein Doppelbett und ein Einzelbett), ein eigenes großes und sauberes Bad mit einem Spiegel und einem großen Regal (das ist nicht selbstverständlich für Raja Ampat) und ein Flur mit einem Tisch. Die große Veranda verfügt über einen Tisch mit Stühlen und ist mit einer Hängematte ausgestattet. Auf der Veranda wird auch das Essen serviert. Es werden Räucherstäbchen kostenlos zur Verfügung gestellt, welche die Mücken fernhalten und es funktioniert tatsächlich. Die Hütte ist mit vielen Fenstern ausgestattet (man hat einen Rundum-Blick), so dass immer ausreichend Licht und Luft in der Hütte vorhanden waren. Direkt hinter der Hütte beginnt der dichte Dschungel, mit seinen faszinierenden Geräuschen, wir haben es geliebt. Häufig waren weiße Kakadus in den Bäumen zu sehen, einmal war sogar ein Königs-Kakadu da und ein Hornbill ist an der Hütte vorbeigeflogen. Direkt neben der Hütte ist ein kleiner Teich, voll mit den unglaublich niedlichen Schlammspringern, die man von der Hütte aus schön beobachten kann. Ein kleiner Sandstrand liegt direkt vor der Hütte, welchen man immer für sich allein hat. Das Riff beginnt direkt am Sandstrand und bietet alles, was das Herz begehrt. Ein größerer naturbelassener, wunderschöner Sandstrand beginnt direkt um die Ecke, welchen wir ebenfalls immer für uns allein hatten. Kleine Baby-Riffhaie (sie waren wirklich nicht groß) waren täglich am Strand und im Riff zu beobachten, wir konnten nicht genug davon bekommen. Die Verpflegung: war die leckerste und umfangreichste die wir in unseren drei Unterkünften in Raja Ampat erhielten. Trinkwasser und heißes Wasser, Tee und Kaffee waren immer ausreichend auf unserer Veranda vorhanden! Rons Frau Falda kochte uns jeden Tag hervorragende Köstlichkeiten. Es gab jeden Tag Gemüse, eine Suppe und entweder frischen Fisch oder Fleisch und natürlich Reis oder Nudeln oder Kartoffeln. Dazu backte Falda jeden Tag nachmittags frischen Kuchen, Crepes, gebackene Bananen und weitere Leckereien. Ron versorgte uns dazu noch mit frischen Bananen und mit frisch geernteten Kokosnüssen. Wir sind wirklich sehr gute Esser, aber es war immer so viel Essen, dass wir es sehr selten nur aufessen konnten. Das haben wir so in den anderen Unterkünften nicht erlebt, da mussten wir doch öfter mal etwas hungrig ins Bett gehen. Handynetz ist in der Unterkunft nicht verfügbar, aber Ron nahm uns oft und immer kostenlos mit in sein Dorf (ca. 10 Minuten mit dem Boot), hier gibt es ein gutes Signal und zudem einen kleinen Kiosk, wo man Kleinigkeiten kaufen konnte. Auch sind wir mit Ron öfters mit dem Boot rausgefahren, um ein Handy-Signal zu bekommen. Was wir auch wirklich schön fanden, ist das uns die Familie an ihrem Leben hat teilnehmen lassen, auch das haben wir in den anderen Unterkünften nicht erlebt. Wir sind mit der Familie an Weihnachten zusammen in die Kirche gegangen, haben Ron beim Fischen und in die Mangroven begleitet und viele Gespräche mit Ron geführt (Ron kann gut englisch). Ron kennt sich in seiner Heimat unglaublich gut aus und kann daher alles an Ausflügen organisieren. Wir haben es sehr genossen immer mit Ron die Ausflüge machen zu können, dies gab uns ein sicheres Gefühl und Ron konnte uns viele Informationen zu Raja Ampat und der wunderschönen Natur geben. Da ich leider direkt in der ersten Nacht krank wurde (Erkältung), konnten wir nicht so viele Ausflüge machen. Aber wir hatten tolle Ausflüge mit Ron zu anderen Riffen, einem Wasserfall, in die Mangroven und zu einem Manta-Point, wo wir fast allein mit einigen Mantas schnorcheln konnten, es war unglaublich schön. Als ich krank war, hat sich die Familie sehr um mich gekümmert, sie haben mir zum Waschen heißes Wasser gebracht und haben mich mit vielen einheimischen Mitteln schnell wieder gesund bekommen. Unser Gepäck war auf dem Hinflug verloren gegangen, aber wir konnten es nach 10 Tagen vom Flughafen Sorong abholen. Auch hier hat uns Ron und seine Familie unglaublich geholfen. Er hat uns mit seinem Boot nach Sorong gefahren und uns in Sorong durchgängig begleitet (vom Hafen zum Flughafen, vom Flughafen zur Airline, von der Airline wieder zum Flughafen und vom Flughafen wieder zum Hafen), immer war Ron an unserer Seite und hat uns bei allem geholfen. Ohne ihn hätten wir das nicht geschafft. Zwischendurch haben wir noch einen Supermarkt in Sorong mit Ron aufgesucht und konnten hier ein paar Sachen kaufen. Der Supermarkt ist vom Sortiment her mit einem Supermarkt in Deutschland absolut vergleichbar. An Preisabsprachen hat sich Ron ausnahmslos gehalten, die Preise für Ausflüge sind günstig. Alle Ausflüge und die Transfers waren super organisiert, es wurden Essen und Getränke mit eingepackt und unsere Koffer wurden sehr ordentlich mit einer Plane vor Regen geschützt. Zusammengefasst ist die Raja 4 Nature Lodge ein fantastischer Ort für Ruhe- und Naturliebende, mit der herzlichsten Familie, die wir in Raja Ampat kennengelernt haben und großartigen Ausflugsmöglichkeiten. Eines ist gewiss, wir werden noch dieses Jahr wiederkommen und freuen uns schon jetzt riesig auf ein Wiedersehen.
We spent an incredible seven days at the end of November in this beautiful homestay and had a great time. We can recommend this homestay to anyone who wants to combine a peaceful and at the same time vibrant vacation in the jungle and by the sea. We were pleasantly surprised by the attention and hospitality of Ronce and his wonderful family. The bungalow impressed us with the number of rooms and beautiful furniture, the spaciousness of the veranda, the absence of holes in the mosquito net and the ability to comfortably accommodate all our numerous belongings. Falda, Ronce’s wife, was always smiling and cooked for us, without exaggeration, the most delicious food in Raja Ampat. Ronce’s children are well-behaved and always help their parents. Together with Ronce and his nephews Nyoman and Andrei we visited very interesting islands and reefs near Arefi Mbrauk Cape, Ayoff, Yuw, Wai, Urun, Rawe Rawe, Rumars, Dokri, Yenaduak and Wakfoi. We also had the opportunity to swim literally next to black manta rays and a large group of humpback parrotfishes just a few hundred meters from our bungalow! No less interesting was the trip to Yuw, where we saw over a hundred large hornbill birds that had come to spend the night on this island. If we needed internet access, Ronce was always ready to give us a free ride to the nearest village of Arefi. Having stayed in 20 homestays in Raja Ampat, we consider this homestay to be one of the best and we are sure that Stayrajaampat Homestay Association can be proud of the wonderful hospitality of this family. We wish them good luck and look forward to visiting them again.
