Details
Nyandesner Homestay lies between mangroves that front a sliver of sandy beach on Pulau Mansuar’s north shore.
Three over-water private bungalows are available. Bungalow verandahs are equipped with tables and chairs and look north across the strait to Gam and Waigeo. Bedrooms have mattresses on the floor, and bedding includes sheets, pillows, bolsters and mosquito nets. Bedside tables are provided, as are bath towels and tissues. Bedrooms are fitted with light switches and power outlets for charging devices.
Nyandesner Homestay’s dining room is a separate over-water building. Guest meals are served at a large table with bench seating and drinking water, and tea and coffee making supplies are always freely available there.
All guests share a western style toilet and bucket bathing in a bathroom that is located on land behind the bungalows. Make sure you bring a torch to light your way at night!
Electricity is supplied from a generator which runs from sunset to around midnight, and Nyandesner Homestay receives a decent 4G phone signal which can usually support a (slow) data connection.
Basic supplies are available in Kurkapa/Yenbekwan, which is about a ten minute boat ride away.
Raja Ampat suffers from a total lack of safe waste disposal and recycling services. All homestays request that their guests please take their inorganic waste away with them when they leave, so as to not contribute to the growing trash problem in the islands.
Only a little English is spoken at Nyandesner Homestay, so it’s probably a good idea to bring a phrasebook or translation app with you if you don’t speak Bahasa Indonesia.
Transport / Getting there
Transfers between Waisai and Nyandesner Homestay cost IDR 1,000,000 each way, in a longboat capable of carrying up to 4 passengers. Cost is shared by passengers.

Activities
Nyandesner Homestay is set in a quiet, private location that isn't subject to the incessant boat traffic that some busier islands have. It's a great place to relax, watch the rich birdlife in the surrounding trees and the black tip and walking sharks that cruise the shallows beneath your bungalow. There are plenty of choices when it comes to activities, too.
Snorkelling
Be sure to bring snorkelling gear! Nyandesner's house reef is rich, and the reef dropoff is quite close to shore. If you're keen to snorkel with Mantas, Manta Point and Manta Sandy are a short boat ride away. Nyandesner Homestay can of course provide snorkelling and sightseeing trips to anywhere you might like to go.
Island exploration
A short walk to the west and a couple of hundred metres inland is a hidden lake. From the lake you can take a trail across the island to the village of Sauwandarek which lies about 500m beyond the lake. We're told that you can reach the nearby villages of Kurkapa and Yenbekwan on foot in about 30 minutes, and we know that from Yenbekwan you can continue to Yenbuba. Both Sauwandarek and Yenbuba have good snorkelling, and if you're at Yenbuba at low tide, it's possible to cross the sandbanks to Kri.

This was our second time at Nyandesner and we went back because we really enjoyed it here. The bungalows are quiet and have wonderful views over the water. The beds are quite small so tall people will have their feet hanging over the mattress but otherwise the rooms are good with a lovely area to sit outside. We saw cuttlefish, rays, walking sharks and much more just gazing from the jetties.
We felt the food had improved this year. Still not much meat but we didn’t mind that as it was very tasty. Also the snacks are now not every day but again, not a big issue.
There is a footpath to Sauranderek which is quite easy to follow. Takes around an hour.
The family here are so nice. Special mention to Bob who always had a word or two and took us on a couple of trips to find Mantas and to Yenbuba with a smile. We were also treated to his ukulele skills a couple of times.
A little feedback, The bathroom although standard Raja style could do with a little TLC and the mosquito net in the room needs a few little repairs. Also, and we did mention this to the family so I hope they take it on board, they really could do with some steps on the jetty to get in and out of the water. The wood is quite slippery and it takes some effort to pull yourselves up, especially at low tide and it would also help folks to get in more carefully as the corals are quite close to the surface at low tide. Once they did bring us the steps they use on the boats which was nice of them.
To sum up we would go back for sure as we have very happy memories of both our stays here. Thank you to all at Nyandesner 🙏
I was here for a full week and had a wonderful stay. The over-water bungalows are stunning and I saw so much beautiful marine life right from my “home.” I felt because it was smaller, it was much more peaceful than staying at the adjacent homestays, but anyone who is more social might prefer another one. For me, it was paradise. The house reef is seriously fantastic and I enjoyed snorkeling in the mangroves too. The family is incredibly kind and though they don’t speak much English, I was greeted with smiles every day. They offer a manta tour for 500K, I did the tour twice and the second time we were lucky enough to see mantas. I personally enjoyed the food, but I don’t normally eat a lot of meat so I didn’t mind going without. The bathroom is a basic Raja Ampat homestay bathroom – I see no need to complain as others have, just lower your expectations. I only stayed at 2 homestays but this was my favorite of the two. I wanted to extend my stay another week but regrettably had to leave due to an ear infection.
I came here to see Manta Rays and was not disappointed, in fact, we had several close encounters which was truly magical and the guides were expert at finding the spots where they like to congregate. The house reef is also good with multiple species of coral fish and I was even able to hover over a Wobbegong shark.
The homestay itself needs attention. The walkways need to be repaired as they can be dangerous. The toilet block should be renewed as well as the huts themselves. The small beds have thin mattresses that are uncomfortable to sleep on and because the huts are positioned very close together, noise can be an issue. Food was minimal and did not vary much. I was grateful for the Terihmagasi restaurant next door to supplement this.
Had an amazing stay at Nyandesner Homestay, truly a hidden gem. It is more secluded than other homestays and offers a beautiful house reef. We saw walking sharks, turtles, eagle rays, etc.
The family running it does not speak a lot of English, but this is not a problem whatsoever. They are friendly and prepare delicious lunch and dinner. The rooms are basic but nice, with raised beds!
Terima kasih banyak!

We stayed in nyandesner homestay for two nights and we had an unforgettable experience. It’s a 3 cabin homestay in such an idilic location (small white sand palm tree beach), it’s pretty isolated from other homestays so you get the feeling of being there alone. The house reef is outstanding, we saw a trutle and dugong in the sunset (amazing sunsets from the cabib/jetty). As adition at night they have walking shark visit under the cabins/dining room.
The location is good for visiting mansuar, kri and manta point. Also close to a couple diving centers to arrange dives.
Showers and bathroom ara average raja ampat style.
The food standard raja ampat.

This was our third Homestay. The best thing here in our opinion is the fabulous reef on your doorstep. Straight down the jetty steps and you have arrived to it, the drop off is a few fin strokes away. Take care at low tide when getting in to snorkel as the reef is in very shallow water. We also saw moray, stingrays and numerous fish directly from our deck.
The overwater room was great. A raised bed which I was not expecting. The guy put up 2 hammocks for us on our decking. We were the only guests and it was so quiet and peaceful.
Food was OK. No fish, mainly egg, rice, noodles and veg which was fine for a couple of days as we had fish every day previous to here. Most days we had an afternoon snack as well. The woman came to tell us when the meals were ready and usually brought our snack to the room.
Basic bathroom down the jetty on the land at the back. Take a torch for night time.
Our host took us to try to find Mantas. Second time lucky. Amazing to swim with these. He also took us to Sawanderek jetty which you can actually walk to from here if you wanted to. Trips were a good price.
Communication was a little harder here. Google translate worked fine for questions etc but harder for much engagement.
For the snorkeling alone we would return but also for the quiet serene views we had. I was going to give 4 stars due to the food and communication but actually on reflection we had a lovely experience here anyway so 5 it is.

We have been a group of 5persons and stayed 2 days, and booked one week ahead and have been happy to get accomodation. So we had been the only guests.
**Prices & Transport**
The prices are good in compare and also the transport prices have been good. We got pickup from Friwan island with 15l motor, which they charged 800k (compared to overprice 1.5M of the owner).
The return to Wasai was 1M. We needed to go in the morning to get to the ATM and catch the ferry and they arranged 2x15l motors, so transport time had been exactly 1h. Very kind.
**Phone signal & Language**
4G phone signal is good and communication with Google Translate was o.k.
**Reef**
I missed the reef as I went diving, but my friends stayed and during the day you could also watch sharks and other stuff coming close to you.
**What’s around?**
The homestay is the last one of the path “North-to-Sauwandarek-Village”. So there is not much traffic.
To the south an old way goes to Sauwandarek Village, which is a popular dive and snorkel site. Go early, take water and don’t forget your snorkel equipment.
To the north the more popular homestays (and resorts) are beginning. You can get a beer and enjoy a nice sorrounding with larger tables. You can also arrange diving there and get picked up by the homestay pier in front of your room. Nice!
**Rating**
Compared to the homestay next door (not sure if it can be booked here), it is really hard.
Let’s say it this way: this one is basic style. We have been happy for the transport and that there was space. From the afternoon we stayed at the other homestay, as they had beer, sprite, … and nicer tables and nicer toilets (maybe we are not the main tourist group).
My friends would give maximum a 4*, as organizer I was happy that everything was very smooth, so I will add one star.

I stayed for 3 nights and I have been the only guest at that moment. Nopsen hasn’t been there, he called me to make sure everything is fine. Communication has been limited, but it worked out for the neccessary issues.
It’s a great place if you want to stay remote and do snorkeling.
Otherwise there is a good phone signal.
The house reef in front is amazing, especially if you go to the left, – sharks, turtles, etc… and you can walk to Sauwandarek Village, which is not far on the other side to snorkel there or buy things. It’s possiuble to arrange scuba-diving with the homestay close by.
In contradiction to other reviews I have to say food was good and plenty. Fruit is something rare on these islands, but there have always been bananas on the table.
And the people are very nice !

We stayed as a couple at Nopsen in Nyandesner Homestay for 5 nights in April 23. We were alarmed in advance because we were warned about overbooking at times.
The problem probably had to do with the fact that Nopsen’s brother was seriously ill and then died, so the family was very upset by this event.
Now everything seems to be back to business as usual.
There is good cooking with fish and vegetables, and the food was deliciously seasoned.
We had the cabin right on the jetty, very close to the family. It is true that you can sometimes hear the family, but we did not find this disturbing. They talk quietly and giggle sometimes and we thought it was nice to notice that they were doing well together. The soundscape blended in well with the sounds of the sea and the jungle.
The place was beautiful for us – even in the shallow water there was healthy coral and further out a diverse reef where sharks and turtles can sometimes be seen. The snorkeling is worthwhile in both directions, whereby one swims in the right direction first over a less beautiful piece, but then it becomes again great.
The bamboo shark could be seen almost every evening at the jetty, under the huts there is always a big school of small fish.
We experienced Nopsen as reliable, punctual and very helpful. The communication in English went well.
The huts and the jetty are really nicely embedded in the mangroves – we felt very comfortable and would come again.

+: Good house reef, the fish were not as big or abundant as in other places but the coral was beautiful with several creatures that we did not see often in other places: a big sepia, a porcupine fish coming to feed underneath our bungalow at night and bamboo sharks swimming around at night. We loved to walk and sit on the jetty, from which you could observe the reef perfectly through the crystal clear water as there were no waves. It was also lovely to observe the sunset from the jetty. We walked to Sauwandarek village in less than an hour passing the inland lake. The path is in a pretty bad state, but no problem if you like a little adventurous scrambling and walking through the water. Our bungalow looked nice, with some decorations, a hammock, and even a mirror. We made one nice snorkeling trip with three stops around the island with Nopsen, who speaks good English.
-: The mattress was smaller than for other homestays. The bungalows are built very close together, giving much less privacy than at other homestays. When our neighbor was smoking our place was full of smoke. Also, our bungalow was right next to the restaurant which was also the place where the hosts were staying. On this side of the island, there are no waves, so you can hear all sounds from the people close to you. There were usually 4-6 local people around, playing music, talking, sometimes in the middle of the night, I had to wear ear plugs. One night a boat arrived at 1 am and people were talking loudly. The food was the most basic from the 5 homestays that we visited. During our 5 night stay, dinner was twice only rice with an egg. We only got fish once and almost no fruit (just banana occasionally). It seems that we had a different cook (a young girl) compared to the earlier reviews. The cups were made of plastic, and had a very strong permanent soap taste to them. We had to use our own bottles to drink from and couldn’t enjoy the tea or coffee this way. There was no toilet paper during most of our stay.

We stayed 3 nights and were the only guests. Nopsen and his family were very nice. He speaks a good English which makes communication easier.
They showed us our room, the facilities and explained us where to snorkel and more important where to not to avoid strong currents.
They even had lunch ready when we arrived. By the way food was good, mixed and plenty.
The spot is nice and quiet. The snorkeling from the jetty is great both side, there is even a family of clown fishes just under the bungalow and turtles were coming to take a breath at sunset. Sunset that you can enjoy from the bungalow and even more on the jetty.
We went on a day trip with Nopsen and his uncle and it was great. They took us to several beautiful places with beautiful sceneries. Nopsen came with us in the water to show us the amazing under water life and mantas.
We recommend very much this place.
Thanks to all of them.

I stayed 4 days in that place where there are 2 I was the only guest. There is a family living here (a couple with 2 teenagers) in the house where is located the restaurant which is also over the sea and very close to the two bungalows. Nobody was speaking English.
Bathroom and toilets are on shore and shared between guests and local people.
No beach, only mangrove.
The owner of Nyandesner was not here but arrived with a friend on my second day evening. They partyed with the family living here with music and they sang until 2 AM. Impossible to sleep before they stop because the owner and his friend were in the second bungalow, a few meters from mine.
Next night was good but last night was horrible because the owner who leaved in the evening, came back in the middle of the night and from 2AM all the family members and the owner were speaking together on the dock at 5 meters from my bungalow. At 4AM they started the compressor and made boat engine tests. So my night was finished at 2AM!
The food was good except for the half part of my stay as I had only eggs (with rice) for lunch, dinner on my arriving day and also for the 3 meals of my second day.
About boat trips:
There is no advice or suggestion for snorkeling trips. You have to know where you want to go.
When owner arrived, he proposed a daily trip (from 11am to 6pm) to go to a tiny island on east of Mansuar with snorkeling and barbecue on the beach and shark feeding before coming back. Cost was 500k. They let me on the South of the island for snorkeling and they went on a different place for fishing. They caught a lot of fish and came back to pick up me before barbecue. After lunch it was boring because I had to wait for the rest of the afternoon and I realised that the only reason to come here was because the wife’s owner was working here (there is a homestay in this island) and he wanted to stay with her. I was waiting for shark feeding to make videos but it was a lie, there was nothing. The only positive point of that trip is that we came back with fish to end my eggs period !
My global opinion: family living here make mistakes as when are new for that job ( they told me that they arrived here three weeks ago) but the owner has an inadmissible behaviour.
Decent place to stay if the owner is not there but place not to be if he is there !

I recently stayed for 3 days and Nyandesner was one of the 5 homestays I chose for my first time 3 week trip to RA.
This was my true favorite out of all 5!
Two overwater bungalows and meals/kitchen are nestled in the beautiful mangroves, a peaceful, picture postcard setting between the lush mountain and sea. This homestay is simple but totally charming , a good place to unwind and soak up the magnificent nature around you. You can watch the never ending parade of sea life from the verandah hammock or take the path at the back for a stroll along the water towards the nearest village. The house reef is beautiful and easy to access even for an oldie like me.
I was the only guest and loved having this place to myself with only Nopsen’s family staying there to do the meals.
Nopsen is a charming guy and talking to him gave me a glimpse into the Papuan culture and way of life. His family is adorable and mum Christine is the best cook, her food was the most delicious I had in RA. Eating in the intimate and lovingly decorated meals hut with views over the reef was a real treat! I asked for the recipe for her pisang goreng and she even showed me how to do it! Wish I had known some basic Indonesian though. Definitely need to learn for next time!
I didn’t stay long enough to do any tours so I will have to come back some day to this gorgeous place and family and stay a week or so.
I truly enjoyed my stay and thank you to all the family – Nopsen, Melando, Christine, Eke and Agnes for your hospitality.
Best of luck with everything and hope to see you again one day!

Salut. Ça a l’air formidable!
Une question, y avait-il beaucoup de rats

Great Stay
We stayed as a couple for 4 nights in total in the Nyandesner Homestay and were more than happy with everything.
The food was delicious and plentyfull, had a lot of veggies and some spices/herbes. The housereef is beautiful and diverse. Under the jetty/the eating room we saw a seahorse, a blue ring octopus, morays, sepias and much more…
The homestay is very clean and built with love. The souroundings are quite and you are alone. Nopsen and his family are very helpful in every regard.
So we think it is so far our favorite homestay in Raja Ampat and we definitely would highly recommend to stay here!

The best Homestay in all of raja ampat !
We had an amazing week at Nopzen and his family.
The bungalow was spacious, very clean and cute with beautiful shells right above the water and a great view of Gam and arborek (with sunset!). In the evening we saw dolphins, a walking shark, squid and during the day lots of different fish (clown fish, rays, frog fish) it was a treat to snorkel.
Nopzen was lovely and took us on excursions at very low prices. He took care of us (coconuts, fresh tuna, sunset). In short, it was great!
The food was also very good, only good dishes and always very good pasta.
We highly recommend it! Many thanks and see you soon from Lucas and Manon.

We stayed at Nyandesner Homestay for 4 days days in April 2022. The family is so friendly and Nopsen really went out of his way to give us the best experience we could possibly have in Raja Ampat! Taking us on trips for free to his family home in Sauwandarek for snorkelling and getting us fresh coconuts from his garden trees, introducing us to the best places for snorkelling, and taking us to see mantas and to Yenbuba for the cheapest trip prices we have experienced in Raja Ampat.
His mom is the best cook we have encountered in Indonesia making the most delicious food in plenty every day for us, with a varity of dishes to choose from for every meal.
The bungalows are nice with porches out front with a hammock to relax in. The water under the bungalows are teeming with life, nemo-fish living in their anemone just below the bungalow, long fish and moray eels hunting small prey fish and there’s so many different types of colorful fish. In the evening bioluminescent plancton is sparkling in the water. In the mangrove beside the house jetty Nopsen spotted a walking shark he showed us, and we saw turtles and squids just in front of the jetty. Eagles were a frequent visitor over the Homestay.
Internet connection is good enough to conduct video chats and working. We were pleasantly surprised by how little plastic was in the ocean around Mansaur, going there from Arborek, where there were a lot of plastic floating around.
We will definitely come back to Nyandesner when we visit Raja Ampat next time.
Thank you so much for having us to Nopsen and his family and all the best wishes for you for the future.

Hello beautiful people! Is this homestay still available this days? I can not find the gps location in google maps!
Thanks!
Yes, Nyandesner is open Angie. (If a homestay is not open, their page will say so, and there will not be a booking form.)
The neighbor to the east is Marko Homestay (~200m from Nyandesner), that one shows up on Google maps, so you can use it as location marker. We were at Nyandesner 4 days ago, they are open and a very, very nice place to stay 🙂

I was in Raja Ampat when the Corona pandemic started and wile everyone headed home I choose to stay on. I lived at Nyandesner homestay from February until October 2020 and had a wonderful time. The family that owns the homestay are wonderful people and always made me feel so welcome and as a part of the family. I learned to cook the Papuan dishes and went swimming and snorkelling every day and on excursions all over Raja Ampat. The reef outside the bungalows is amazing and every day I saw thousands and thousands of fish, like one only sees in Raja Ampat. There are many Nemos (clown fish) and loads of other fishes, it’s just never ending. Dugong swam by and of cause small sharks and turtles. The area in front of the bungalow is so shallow that it’s fun and easy to take selfies with the Nemos. Also many days dolphins swim by and I think it was in May there were loads of big whales swimming by every day. It’s also a good place to see the walking shark. Bring a flash light. You can walk to villages on both sides of the homestay, between 15-30 minutes, rough path, and they are nice to visit and to buy whatever you need, internet data, chocolate or laundry detergent etc. There is usually good internet connection at the homestay. The bungalows are very well built and everything is clean and well kept. I have travelled quite a lot in Raja Ampat for me Nyandesner homestay has the best food.
