  • I had an amazing time at Mangkur Kodon with Raimon and his family! He also helped arrange a snorkeling trip for me and a group of people. I highly recommend!

  • We stayed 12 days with Raimond and his lovely family and had an absolutely gorgeous time. The location is wonderful, with huts over the sea and a spectacular view. It is a bit away from the other homestays, which makes it more quiet and allows for a direct view on the ocean and the boats passing by. Snorkeling is mind-blowing just a few meters away from the huts. The family cooked us breakfast, lunch and dinner and the food was delicious and plenty. They were all very kind and warm, helpful and also respectful of our privacy and desire to rest and contemplate. We would definitely come back and are broken hearted to have had to leave. Teri Makasi! We had such a wonderful time.

  • Pictures are not accurate
The whole place is falling appart
I got a room not realky overseas near the “forest” no view
The owner didn’t shop for lunch and dinner even though I did the reservation 2/3 days in advance..
No towel, no sheet, no electricity or just couple hours..
The only cabin available was full of rats he didn’t warn me that cosmetic makes the rats coming even more… There were cigarettes butt under the bed and and rat shit in the mosquito’s net..
I sent a complaint email to stayrajatampat and they contacted the owner..
In the morning the owner was unable to give me anther room and ask to go to another homestay… He did refund me half of the 3 nights paid.
But really I don’t understand why this place is still on this website..
Someone should really check out /try the homestay they propose on this website site..
I finally ended in Yanuba even though he was full he find me a cabin..

  • Start by reading the review below, from Monica. It’s more or less correct.
The bungalows are among the oldest on Kri, so are the beds. So expect no more.
    No fan in bungalow’s.
Most other Homestays on Kri got fans.
Food was very basic and small portions.
1 egg plus coffee is not a breakfast.
We have spent time in 4 different homstays, both in 2018 and 2025, so can navigate the homestay offers

  • We stayed 10 nights at Mangkur Kodon Homestay in november 2024. We were in the overwater cottage. We were very comfortable there. The cottage is simple, spacious and clean; sufficient for the style of vacation we were having. The bed has a mosquito net. There is a hammock and a deckchair in the outdoor area, a small table and a slightly larger one and a fan. The toilet and shower area are on the ground floor. It is simple and basic, but it works. To shower you have a drum full of fresh water and a jar to pour it over yourself and rinse yourself.
The food is good and in sufficient quantity. If there are other guests it is to be shared in the dining area. Breakfast with donuts or pancakes. Lunch and dinner with fish, rice, vegetables, noodles. Everything very good.
Raimond very friendly. He speaks English. The rest of the family and staff do not speak English very well, but they are very friendly and helpful and make themselves understood.
We have read that in other places there are mice in the houses. Here we did not see any.
Thank you very much Raimond. We were very comfortable and had a very pleasant stay in your homestay

  • I stayed almost 3 weeks there.
    Positive :
    – Well located, closed from dive centre, and facing the sunset
    – Breakfast were different everyday (I had toasts only once) but maybe a bit light compared to other homestays. Lunch/dinner were great though and different everyday (with fish, chicken, eggs, veg..etc)
    – Raimon’s family doesn’t speak English but they were very kind. Usually Raimon tried to be helpful, took me to Yenbuba when I needed to, showed me how to go to the sunset viewpoint, etc
    Negative :
    – Hungry rats and mice were coming every night inside the bungalow (even though I didn’t have any food, but they ate my soap). Quite common in the island though
    – Disappointed in Raimon who tried to make me pay 150,000 extra at last minute for the boat transport which is already more expensive than some other homestays because I had found 2 people to share it with (and told him in advance). Sharing boats is very common on the island and that was totally unjustified and inappropriate. He was also very late and we almost missed our ferry
    – Mattresses was ok for me, but could be an issue for someone with back issues
    – Showers/toilets on that side of the island are definitely not the best, not very clean either but it does the job. Get your own toilet paper as there isn’t any sometimes. I didn’t get anything to do my laundry, just a small bucket used for the toilets and all bungalows didn’t have any strings to hang clothes (get your own as well just in case)
Overall, I thought it was ok and it did the job, even though some improvements could be easily done

  • we stayed here for a week late dec 23. First time in Rajah. From what I could see this place is a good choice based on what i saw of the huts/food/location of various places on the island. I saw a few people transfer here from other places while we were there. Dont agree with some of the neg comments made in other reviews. Yes food is slightly narrow menu but that is inevitable being on a remote island but ramon and his team tried hard to vary it and every day was a bit different, including we had chicken some days. Breakfast was the disappointment (bread and peanut butter only every day!) but lunch and dinner were 100% fine. Also shower and toilet were very clean we had no issues or complaints on them – also a place to do laundry provded. Ramon was reliable boatman collecting and returning to Waisai. he also hooked us up with danny the dive operator who was far cheaper than the nearby foreign-run shop (also danny can mix divers and snorklers which the other shop refused to do). only negative: rats are in the rooms at night hunting for something to eat but thats the SAME in EVERY resort on KRI so take precautions – i thought 100 AUD per night for 2 adults was fair all things considered – if i went to RJ again i might not go to Kri but if i did id come here again…we met people that had been there 10 times which prob tells you all you need to know

  • We had the best hut on the island locationwise i think. The furdest on the water. The view was amazing and we had a terrace on both sides so at night we had the best sunset and during the day we sat on the other side.

The food we got was good, but no variation. We didnt get fish or meat. Only vegetarian. The first days we got some fruit but later they said they had no fruit anymore.

The shower/toilet room was bad. Looked really dirty and a lot of the times no toiletpapier

Raimon was a nice guy, but he was the only one to speak English, no one else did and Raimon was during the day not at the Homestay so communication was hard.

They took us to the village by boat when we asked! That was really nice.

We think this Homestay is overpriced, but the location made a lot good, also because it is next to Soul scuba dive and we where there every day and the beautiful views. Kri is a paradise you will never forget.

  • I am a tour leader for Adventures in the World, Italian T.O. and I stayed here with my group for two nights. In favor of this homestay, the food, good, the breakfast with donuts like peanuts. For the rest I do not recommend this place, the photos shown on the site are old, you can see the beach clean, but now it is no longer, not all the beds are with the mosquito net, fundamental as there are various insects and how! my travel companions and I did not have towels, the costs charged by the owner for the boat for the excursions and the transfer to other islands are high, and then there are the mice. The owner with us was arrogant. I don’t recommend this homestay.

  • L’endroit est magnifique mais les bungalows sont vraiment défraîchis. Ils ne ressemblent plus du tout aux photos. Le propriétaire n’habite pas sur place et sa famille ne parle pas anglais. La communication est donc difficile.

  • Best homestay and location to stay in!

Loads of coral, turtles, sharks, fish to see in just a few metres from my bungalow. The sunset is also amazing for the sunset lovers like me!

Food, well good and in abundance for everyone, with an afternoon snack also which is notbstandard in all of the homestays!

Raimond is very helpful and speaks good english aswell, i think he has the best english from all the people i.met in rajaampat area.

I will always recomend this homestay! Its a paradise in so many ways

  • Because I read these bad things here I stayed in another place. Someone arrived from here to the place I stayed and said it was the perfect place to be. Location, food everything was very good. Also very friendly and you can ask everything. So I came here. This is paradise! Food is so good, so friendly, so helpful, and what a location! Of course you are not in the Hilton hotel. I am still here and I will be for a long time. Best snorkeling ever here. Swimming with turtle, shark, Napoleon fish and wow what a Reef. You can walk to the other beaches and viewpoint. If you need anything like a sim card they fix it. They go very often tot Waisai. Also just on the other side (40 meters) there is a little village tot buy something. Just ask to bring you. And on the other side of the island there is the amazing sandbank for the most amazing Instagram pictures. About animals and food… It is everywhere in the world the same so pack everything together .. So don’t hesitate! It is fantastic! Last year they were almost fighting to stay here and waiting with sleeping on the beach with tents and now because of 1 person who is not used to travel in basic infrastructure and writing her frustration gives this a bad name. I had the best food here now and the best place I ever stayed. So I will stay much longer. I have cakes or pancakes as breakfast, an incredible meal, wow the fish is so good! Of course you will have other things to. In the afternoon fried bananas.. And a lot! And fruit also! Koffee, thee,.. And evening meal. Electricity from around 6pm to 6am.
.. Perfect internet connection. I hope I have given you good info and just be open for this great place!

  • Probably one of the best (or even the best) spot to stay on Kri island (based on the house reef and the location). Every bungalow has his own hammock which is quiet nice.

Unfortunatelly, the food is really not good. Same stuff almost every single day we stayed there (steamed rice, beans, spinach, omlette, fried chicken, sometimes dry fish), always prepared the same way. Most of the times we skipped the breakfast too.

Rats were not a problem for us as we didn’t keep food in our bungalow.

  • Mangkur Homestay spot is the best of the island, view is awesome, snorkeling along the beach just after the cape is crazy! bungalows are ok, mosquito nets are in good shape, foods is simple but good, really, fish, vegetables, rice and fried noodles, we had also all day long bananas on the table, or fresh made bananas donuts in the afternoon.
Raimon is a very helpfull and kind person, he gave me some medecines from his personnal stock tu cure an ear infection, and always does his best to make us comfortable.
Never saw any rats, but of course, as wherever, I do not leave any unprotected food in my room!
The diving center is just nearby, 50 meters!
If we come back again in Kri, we’ll go to Raimon’s Homestay for sure.

  • Definitely the best spot on the tip of the Kri island; however, food is horrible and no fruit, toilets are filthy, rats are so hungry that they even tried to eat my cigarettes. Ramon said that he would do the deratization after I left.
Ramon is lazy, has always excuses for everything and also asks for payment in advance.
If you are ready to sacrify everything for being in a good spot, then this is the place for you.

  • We (a couple, divers and snorkelers) stayed in Mangkur Kodon now for the 2nd – AND LAST – time!
First time in December 2018 for 2 weeks and second time in April 2019 with a befriended couple for 7 nights.
Let’s start with the positive things:
This is probably the most beautiful place on this island: amazing view, fantastic beach, perfect place for snorkeling.
    But that’s it!
    The negative things:
Although the owner Raimon for sure is a nice person, he‘s incapable to manage a Homestay.
Both times we stayed there, he asked us for payment in advance, and unfortunately we did this. The result: for the first two days we had nice food, some fruits (Watermelon and Bananas), but for the rest of the time the food was awful. No fruits anymore, some few times fish that was fried to death like 4 times, so it was dry like hell. No meat, but water spinach EVERY day. One day we had to go diving without breakfast.
Another day we had no drinking water – Raimon had bought 1! bottle the day before in the village – knowing that he will have a big group of ca. 12 kayakers. Then SURPRISINGLY the 1 bottle was empty soon and SURPRISINGLY there was low tide, so he could not drive to the village to buy more water.
On the first day he also bought some cookies for us, placed them in the restaurant, but after 1 hour they were empty, eaten by staff and/or the children.
Most of the bungalows have leaking roofs, so if there’s rain you or your luggage will be wet.
Contrary to what he writes in his description the generator often doesn’t work during the night, it happened that it stopped at 10 pm, because SURPRISINGLY the gasoline was empty. We complained and explained to Raimon about all this, when we were there for the first time already. And because we like him and his place, we gave it another try two weeks ago, together with our friends. But unfortunately things have become even worse. And the only comment from Raimon when we left and wanted to explain to him again, why we were not satisfied was that he’s not happy with us – obviously because we complained too much.
We definitely will go back to Kri in September, bring other friends, but definitely we‘ll choose another Homestay!

  • We were horrified by the piles of plastic waste strewn all over this homestay, especially behind it on the way to the uphill trail to get to the bay and jetty by Waranhus Homestay.

We hope they’ll be interested in earning money recycling almost any plastic waste via Bank Sampah.

  • Ask us to leave early because he has a bigger group coming.
We barely manage to get our money back
Everyone has to run his business – but there is thing you can do, and things you should not.
There is nicer places to stay on those islands.

  • We initially planned to stay here for 4 nights and try another homestay but we finally ended up staying 9 nights here because of the amazing view and beach of Mangkur Kodon, most beautiful beach of the island, even at high tide. House reef is amazing in both sides with plenty of turtles, sharks and big fishes at each snorkelling. We shared our overwater bungalow with 2 rats but it is the life on Kri Island. Our overwater bungalow close to rocky hill was basic but quite spacious.
    Nice viewpoint of the bay.

Food was very good, diverse and abundant as we were most of the time only two or 4 guests. A lot of vegetables. One only disappointment : we expected to eat a lot of fish and for the first days it was early good with fish, chicken and/or tempeh at every meal. But then for an unknow reason we had 8 meals on a row (4 days) with only egg (omelet) to accompany vegetables and rice, that was disappointing regarding the diversity of the first days… But anyway satisfied with the food!!

Raimon’s family and staff are very discreet. Some kids play around the homestay.

Overall a very good 10 days experience!

  • I stayed here for two nights in May, 2018. The bungalows are beautiful, views are great, hammocks in front of each bungalow and snorkeling is fantastic! Most sharks I saw by far, plus big fish.

But both nights dinner was served at 9pm. That was really, really tough! Especially since they don’t have any afternoon snacks so waiting 9 hours between meals was painful. Another thing I did not like were all the screaming kids. Every day the owner brings his children over from their home in the village on Monsuar. And they are playing all day which is great for them but laying in a hammock relaxing with a book is not possible with about 8 kids running around and screaming and the little ones often crying literally all day.

  • We started our journey at warahnus homestay in November and went to arborek afterwards.
Then we decided to go back to kri beacuse of the great underwaterworld!

We can absolutely recommend this place because of the best house reef we have ever seen!!

  • First i have to say that ALL THE PICTURES YOU SEE on this page are old, the place looks completly diferent now. The beautiful overwater bungalow that stands alone (which i booked) dont exist since almost a year.
Mangkur Kondon is a very beautiful place, for sure the most beautiful spot on Kri, we stayed there for 3 weeks in december/january.

Raimon actually a sweet person but also quite lazy you have to fight for everything, toilet paper, water, coffe, new sheets just everything. Its quiet unorganised i must say he also didnt pick us up in waisai. Luckily another boat took us but when we arrived he was not even there. The food was horrible, absolutly aweful, no spices, no taste cooked with no love. In the other homestays we got 3 times fruits a day and they cooked fresh and nice. Mangkur Kondon is not a place you even want to eat, we started to buy cup noodles, i never thougt i would ever prefer readymade food haha!
But Raimon is not a bad person, i think its just a completly diferent culture, i think he has a good heart and he is friendly.
Apart from food and organisation we had a great time, made beautiful snorkle trips, met cool people and we loved our bungalow and the hamocks at the veranda. The lagoon and the corals are great! You will never get tired of this view! Absolutley gorgeous!

    • Hi Anna-Tina

Thanks for taking the time to write a review – it’s much appreciated 🙂

The photos are indeed outdated, because we’re not based in Raja Ampat, and with over 100 homestays now, it’s not possible for us to visit every one on every visit we make.

You wouldn’t happen to have some that you’d like to share with us so we can update them would you? (Naturally, we’d be sure to credit you for the help!)

Contact us via our contact page if so. Thank you again 🙂

  • For me the best Homestsy in Raja Ampat. I stay 3weeks.
    And come back soon.
    Bungalows are simple, making new.
but the view from here is incredible.
    Autom sunsets.
    The beach was amazing
    And cleaned every day.
    Food was more then enough
Fresh fish, chicken, vegetables, noodles, rice and fresh fruits.
The stuff very friendly and helpful.
    Raimon speaks good English
And help anytime, and give true answers to all.
    He organize boats trips
Manta trip was more then amazing, do it ?
Also he arranged for the customer to come other islands for staying.
He have everywhere in Raja Ampat, friends or family with other homestays.
He told me that his big dive center open soon with
    new equipment.

  • We stumbled across Mangkur Kodon while searching for a homestay on Kri to move to since we weren’t happy at Yenmakrak (see our review, 3/5). We had originally hoped to get a bungalow at Yenbuba since it’s so well reviewed but availability seemed unlikely. We found Raymon, the proprietor, while looking for someone from Yenbuba and he offered us one of his over-the-water bungalows. Our bungalow was small and furnished with two singled beds instead of a double, but it had probably the best view and jetty we experienced in Raja Ampat. The beach at Mangkur Kodon is lovely and the house reef is spectacular—we saw turtles, sharks, rays, octopus, lionfish, and much, much more. The food was also very good, with lots of veggies on offer (although repetitive). Raymon is a wonderful, extremely knowledgeable guy who speaks some of the best English we encountered. His trips—when he leads them, as opposed to his staff—are also spectacular. He took us on a full-day manta and snorkeling trip to Pulau Wai and three other sites in a covered boat that was easily the highlight of our Raja Ampat experience. Everyone on board also remarked that the trip was their best snorkeling encounter with mantas by far. Upkeep at Mangkur Kodon can be a little slow when Raymon isn’t around—we had to change the water cooler a few times and there was a brief toilet paper shortage one day—and our mattresses were pretty uncomfortable and dirty even by RA standards, but otherwise the homestay was wonderful. To his credit, Raymon even changed the worse of the two mattresses when we said something. We’re a bit surprised at some of the negative comments here because we absolutely loved and trusted Raymon. It does seem like a run of bad luck (including family illness and a property dispute) has set Raymon back a little, but he’s working very hard on making Mangkur Kodon a great homestay. Note that the description on this page is very outdated. The dining room is spacious and comfortable and the bungalows are now all single-room, with 5 over the water and another on the way. Bintang sometimes available (but often not cold)! We also stayed at Corepen (5/5), Beser Bay (5/5), Yenmakrak (3/5), and Warimpurem (5/5) homestays if you want to check out our reviews for comparison.

  • Nice place, I think the best view on the island. May be there is one wish – to arrange the seatting area with roof for day rest because in the sunny day we needed some shadow.
    Food was ok.

  • I stayed here couple of months before and it was nice. Then I booked it again for new year’s eve before for 13 people. Paid my down payment already and kept contact with raimon and he said everything’s good blablabla.

Then the day we arrived, suddenly got a text from Raimon: “Hey sorry, I need to cancel your booking.” WITH NO EXPLAINATION.
Can u imagine??? There were 13 people of my group didn’t know where to stay and he cancelled my booking at the day we supposed to stay there in new year’s eve!!!!

He’s a fraud, unresponsible person. He just cares about money money and money. I COULDN’T BELIEVE HE DID IT TO MY GROUP WITH 13 PEOPLE. Worst experience ever!
    Be careful of this guy!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Kri was our final destination to spend the last two nights in Raja Ampat and we had chosen the Warahnus homestay located on the most beautiful beach of Kri but they recommended the Mangkur and attending to the recommendations we changed at the last moment of homestay and the truth WE REGRET of having done it and we will explain the reasons:

The owner of Mangkur, Raimon, is a person who does not know how to treat his clients properly. Just want to charge in advance the nights you stay. He is building new bungalows in a very small space without paying attention that it covers the views of the other bungalows. He is only interested in money without looking at the comforts of his clients. We also ask him to share snorkel trips with other clients of other homestays but I think that he doesn’t get along with his neighbours.

The place is not well maintained and dirty. When we arrived they changed the sheets but left the trash bin full of garbage. He does not control the dining room with some very basic meals, and very basic breakfast with just fried bananas. When he runs out of napkins, he does not put more like the drinking water. You have to be very much on top of it.

The only good thing about the place is to get to the small island opposite when the tide is low and snorkel around.

Conclusion, I do not recommend this homestay having the Warahnus on the best beach in Kri.

  • We stayed at Mangkur Kodon for four nights in mid-November. There are now five over-the-water bungalows and 6 on-land bungalows, so plenty of room for our group of nine. Raimon was not all that easy to contact, and I was worried about connecting with him when we arrived. But it all worked out — he was there with two boats to pick us up from the ferry at Waisai. The location of Mangkur Kodon Homestay, on the western tip of Kri island, is incomparable — such divine sunsets! The beach is wide, with pristine white sand. When the tide is out you can walk across to the village on Palau Mansuar, the large island to the west, and to the tiny island inbetween. We were very impressed by the abundance and variety of delicious dishes at every meal. Raimon told me that his wife loves to cook, and it certainly shows. Thanks for a wonderful stay, Raimon and family!

  • We stayed 5 days at the homestay.
First of all: the snorkeling, the beach and the environment is amazing.
The diving shop is closed. (we still do not know why but we heard a lot of reasons: ear infection, outdated equipment, because it’s to stressful etc.) so you have to organize your dives with an other homestay.
The rooms were really basic with really old and musty mattresses. Our roof was leaking, so we got wet at night. We had a couple of rats in our bungalow every night, but anyway that’s quite normal in Raja Ampat.

The food was OK, beside of the breakfast. We often had fish vegetables and eggs. Sometimes it’s a bit less, but you will survive.

We ran out of toilet paper on the first day, and did not get a new roll for the rest of our stay. So bring your own toilet paper if you can.

Ramon organized a snorkel trip for us which was really nice and really affordable 200IDR for the boat.

When we asked him to take us to fam (taxi only) he tried to charge us 6 mio idr for the trip. So we went to aborek first and took a boat from there to fam which includes pianemo as well for 2.5mil. The boat to aborek was 500k.

    Conclusion:
    Really beautiful environment
    Best snorkeling spot in kri
    Old facilities
    Food ok
    Overpriced For the service
    Low costumer care

  • 1. Booking/arrival: we had booked overwater bungalow for 10 days. We arrived, the OW bungalows were taken, and the guys asked how long we wanted to stay: “one or two days?”. We finished in a smaller bungalow further from the water for the 2 first nights. Arrangements were made afterwards for us to get the bungalow we booked, which we appreciated. Don’t bother choosing your bungalow or length of stay – they don’t check. Call them some days before, tell them which bungalow you want and for how long.

    2. Location: the best part. Beach/sandbank is amazing ; nearby snorkeling is amazing, and the Yenbuba village is a 20 minute swim or a 2 minute boat ride in case you need to purchase any snack or visit the village.

    3. In-homestay experience: rooms and toilets are clean. Beach was almost clean – I picked up 2-3 PET bottles and plastic bags per day, they would probably have stayed there for a while if I didn’t. Food was absolutely great, varied and fresh, better than in other homestays I experienced. As usual in this settings, breakfast is always lacking in quality and quantity (tea and fried bananas) – but lunch and dinner make up for it.

IMPORTANT – AS OF AUGUST 2017, DIVING FACILITIES ARE NOT OPERATIONAL. YOU WILL HAVE TO ARRANGE DIVING WITH NEARBY STRUCTURES (DELVIN DIVE SHOP, LUMBA-LUMBA HOMESTAY).

    4. Pick-ups: pick-up in Waisai was on time and worked out good. On the way back though… They were supposed to pick us up at the homestay at 3PM. After 2 hours of waiting, I call (5PM) – Raimon tells me he had some trouble and is still in Waisai, and he will not be able to come.

    5. Final: 4/5. Even if there were some troubles (not having the room we wanted, no in-homestay diving, pick-up issue), the beauty of the place and its location and the good food made up for it. I would return and recommend, but also recommend not being too demanding and too attached to your “optionals”.

  • Hey Hey,
we stayed four nights there and liked it very much. Best thing was the snorkelling. In front of the bungalow there is a big sandbank and an amazing house reef. You can choose to go to the left or right drop off, where you can see turtles, sharks an beautiful corals. At low tide you can also go to yenbuba jetty for snorkelling (over the sandbank) and visit mansuar village. There you can also find a small market.

Our overwater bungalow was very nice. We liked it very much. Dont bring food with you, because of the rats. You can lock the food at the dining place.

Raymon is a nice host – when he is around! he shows you couscous and answers questions – his english is very good.

Raymon is a nice host – when he is around! he shows you couscous and answers questions – his english is very good.

  • Hi
can we see sharks by snorkeling there ?
    same question for mantas ?

any idea about the price for excursion from that place to Pyanemo ?

    thanks!

    • Hi Tim

Blacktip reef sharks are quite common in the shallows around Kri, so yes – you should see some. You need to go a bit further afield for mantas, but Mangkur Kodon can arrange that for you. Mantas are usually around from mid-October to mid-May. Can’t say what MK would charge for a Piaynemo visit, but the average price from Kri ranges between 5 and 6 million rupiah.

  • I had one of the bungalows over the water , very nice. The price of accommodation is very reasonable. Raymon was a competent and friendly host .
I did not have a problem with rats but would recommend that mattresses and bedding are put out in the sun when it is shining as everything begins to smell mouldy when it is raining a lot.
Snorkelling to the jetty is wonderful, I saw lots and lots of big fish, turtles and a great variety of fish. The diving guests were happy. I did not dive myself.
It is very suitable for a family with children.

  • The best beach for shure! really a confortable place! Clean, but we had rats.

It’s different from the pictures and what you can read above. There are bungalows on land and 2 privates overwater facing the sea. They are building more.

We had good food but sometimes they didn’t “find fish”…haha
Snorkeling in front is good also
    Really good place!

  • Hey guys got a question: Is there a locker or safety deposit where you can keep your valuables? Thanks in advance!

    • Hi Dia –

To the best of our knowledge there is not. We’ve only ever heard of thefts at one homestay and that one is in the process of installing safety deposit boxes in rooms. Shame – it’s never been a risk at homestays before!

  • We stayed for only two nights but loved every minute! Raimon and Lucas were especially helpful. The meals and accommodation were simple but all that we needed. The snorkeling and diving were superb in the channel directly across from the homestay. Bring food on your flight as you may be waiting for a while at the harbor in Waisei to be picked up as Raimon only has one boat. Highly recommended!

  • We stayed two weeks at Mangkur Kodon in March 2017.
First of all: the location is amazing, the snorkeling between the homestay and Mansuar superb. But… the organisation of the homestay was a bit dissappointing:
First of all, make sure not to call Lucky (his number is still on the page) because he did not mentioned anything and brought us to his own homestay, which is on the other side pf the island (despite of 3 calls in advance to arrange everything).
Then bring a lot of fruit and vegetable if you want to eat healthy. They are not provided. We almost had to beg for them to get it one time after many days. Breakfast is really bad. Only oily things with lot of sugar, something light would be better. Also they use exactely the same sauce for almost all of the dishes, and if you are vegetarian its going to be frustrating.
We had to remind the staff (who are really friendly) of almost all their duties (changing the water tank, toilet paper, toilet/shower water, tea).
And you can only go diving with them when they are not busy with other things .. which seemed to depend a lot on the daily mood as well.
Also its not possible to pay by creditcard.
    Beds and rooms are good.

  • Stayed 2 weeks at mangkur kodon. Enjoyed it very much. The owner Raimond and his staff are very friendly. The snorkeling trips fantastic. Can highly recommend the place. Best beach and sunset view on kri island. Food was good and plenty.

  • Stayed here for 12 nights in the earthly delight of Mangku Kodon. Raimon and his family, the most authentic, caring and funny people. The food, for sure the best on the island, the host..for sure the best on the island. No need to worry about anything, snorkel trips were great, safe and secure, trustworthy staff. The accommodation perfect with the house reef in front and spectacular sunsets from the amazing living room suspended over the sea with hammocks. Raimon is family and I’ll be back to share his home for more years to come. Farewell for now and thanks for making my trip so memorable

    • Hi Anna,
Since you were most recently at Mangur Kodon Homestay, can you please tell me how clean the place was? I’ve seen a few reviews taking about trash lying around on the beach near the bungalows, etc. Photos also show some of it. Was it the same this January? I’m planning to go there in April, but don’t want to end up being frustrating seeing trash around in beautiful nature. Your frank response on this will be highly appreciated.
      Many thanks!
      Nino

      • I have the same question… Somebody told me that 6 month ago this homestay was not in good conditions… Maybe they did some renovations? Would like to know before to go…

  • We had an amazing experience here. Raymond the owner is incredibly helping and taking care of all your needs. We felt home and welcomed. The place is with no doubt the most beautiful one in Kri, so are the rooms with great view. The food was always rich and tasty and the whole family always gave us smiles all day. This is the place to be in Kri!

  • I think his is the best location on Kri. It has a beautiful curved beach, the water really is turquoise with no sea grass. There is a sand spit to bask on and a big communal deck with hammocks that catch the late afternoon sun and stunning sunsets. It gets a really nice breeze which is great for a good nights sleep. Raymond is such a lovely guy and makes you feel really welcome. I love the relaxed friendly atmosphere here. Very tasty food and more than enough. Not 5 star luxury but in my book – much better. I just want basic accommodation in an amazing natural setting. The positon at the end of the island commands the best aspect and views.

  • I read all of the comments below, and apparently the managment has changed a lot in the recent years. I stayed 2 days/2 nights in Nov,2016, and most of the problems what comments mentioned were already solved.
The room was clean, but the mattress is already old, dirty and absolutely uncomfortable.
The food was great and enough all the time, even when we arrived late on the first day we got a lot of food in 20 minutes.
I didn’t see any rats, however now they have many cats instead 🙂
The toilets need to be improved for sure, just as they should collect the rubbish from the lot around the homestay. 20 meters from your room you can find dirty diapers and even though you can’t see them directly, it’s just disgusting and absolutely unacceptable.
Raymond (the owner) looks like a great guy, butdo not except that everything will go smoothly.

  • I really enjoyed my stay at the homestay. This place offers the best view from the whole island. The place is really clean. Food was always delicious and enough. Diving with Raymond was nice and we felt save. Make sure you bring a five computer. They don’t have them for rent. Don’t try to pay your bill with credit card it is not working. Bring cash. Raymond also offers nice trips to other islands. I would love to come back to raja ampat.

  • We spent 5 nights at Magur Kodon homestay, in late September 2015.
The place was empty and we stayed at the best bungalow, the one over the water and facing the amazing daily sunset.
The homestay location is perfect, on the very tip of Kri Island and so was “our private” low tide beach in front of the bungalow.
Food, cooked buy Raymond’s wife, was delicious and in good quantity (ckicken or fish and a good diversity of vegetables, and morning pancakes – very tasty!).
Luky is now running the place. He was always nice and helpful (try to speak quite with him and making understand what you need).

Luky and Raymond run a small but well maintained dive center. Diving with them was reliable and safe (don’t miss sardine reef and Mike’s point). Raymond is shy but a good guide under the water. And they have the best prices around (450.000Rph/dive)

For snorkeling which is amazing, just swim towards the south side of Kri/Mansuar to the near Yenbuba jetty which has a resident school of barracudas, great corals and “uncountable” variety of fishes (on the way it will be difficult to miss all the turtles and reef sharks around).
After snorkelling both sides north and south of Kri (north in front of Yenkorano and Kri Eco resort / south from Lumba lumba to Yenbuba Jetty), we choose south as we love turtles (and it’s plenty of them) and big fish schools (quality of corals and quantity of small fishes are pretty same both sides).

Amazing stay at this “5 star” homestay.
One tip: try to avoid high season/indonesian holidays, to have the place quite.

  • Probably the best setting on Kri. You have a nice beach, the best sunsets in whole Raja and it´s possible to walk to Mansuar when the tide is low. The snorkelling is superb. Yenbuba jetti is amazing. With a lot of turtles, sharks and big fish. The corals next to the jetti and beneath are excellent. The food was quite Okay. We had a lot of fish. Even a whole grilled Makarel. But it`s true: the kids are sometimes noisy, but they are at least little kids. Always close to their mothers who work there. They start crying when their mother has to serve the food or do the laundry. So in the end, they cry because of the guests. 🙂 The dive shop was not operating when I was there, because the compressor war broken.

  • Positive aspects:
Great snorkeling on the reef, mainly at low tide: we saw several black tips, turtles, walking sharks, etc.

    Negative:
The place was very badly managed, we constantly had to go and ask for toilet paper, water, tea, etc., they were not proactive at all.
It was also very dirty, there was trash laying in front of the bungalow doors for days and even when I asked them to clean it, they didn’t. The ashtrays and the bins were full, even in the toilets.
Furthermore the place was also very noisy. They had several very young kids and would let them cry and shout all day long close to the bungalows. Not the nicest way to be woken up at 6 in the morning…
It is the only place in Raja Ampat where I had difficulties to get enough food as a vegan, mainly for breakfast.
I did not dive with them because I had an ear infection, but it seemed to be very badly organized. Raymon was often hours late.
Excepted the diving, they did not offer any other activities.
They ask 400’000 for the rooms, which is more than the usual price in Raja Ampat and which is not justified at all whe you consider all the above.
I left 2 days earlier than planned because I was bored and annoyed by the dirt and the noise.

  • stayed at mangkur kodon earlier this month with my friends.. the scenery at this part of kri was beautiful.. i didn’t dive with them but my friend did.. the dive trip was great, saw about 15 mantas..the food was ok..we went to another island around lunch and informed raymond to keep some food for us.. so we had no problem with food shortage..
expect things to be run at slower pace.. i checked with luki on my departing schedule for next day..i was only informed that we would leave after breakfast..around 7am, as they only have 1 boat (which also serve as dive boat)..so on the day, i woke up earlier to pack & get ready..by 7am i was ready to go, but saw no one..went over to the dive shop, only then i was informed that they have another boat and would leave around 8++..i woke my friends at wee hours to say goodbye.. & i only left after the 3rd goodbye (hahah)
We paid 300k rupiah per person per night, and the dive cost 450k per dive (cheapest on the island – yenkoranu & wobbegong cost 100k more)
the boat transfer to waisai cost 500k rupiah per boat

  • Summarizing everything in this place made by nature is amazing, the things made by human terrible. It is such a shame that soooooo beautiful place is wasted by so stupid people. You can read all about it in other feedback.
If you wanna stay here but a lot of suplies in Sorong and bring them with you.(you can also go do Waisai for shoping transfer to waisai is not so expensive use that) Secend thing i would take next time is speargun, if you dont catch fish yourself (with is extreamly easy so many fishes!) you will propably be starving here. Sell me the land and i will put it in the right order!

  • Hello!
I stayed in this Homestay from the 30/12/14 to the 4/01/15 .
What to say, there is only and only one reason for me to recommend this place, and it’s the position. Yeah, because i have to admit it’s amazing and has a beautiful beach + a near jetty whit An amazing Coral reef!
Now let me start whit alla the negatives things.
We talked whit luky the 29/12 and He told us He was going to Pick us up the 30/12 At 10:30. He arrived At 13:00, and then we had to accompany him to Buy food for the Homestay.
Another thing : don’t be late for dinner or lunch! We saw in Six days 2 couples that arrived a Little late and They stayed whitout eating. One couple went to ask for the food and luky answered ” You were late, it’s Your problem if You dont eat”. The food was always the same quantity, They doesnt care if new people arrives and You are 10 and Not 5.
They definitely give Small portions of fish… I dont say They need to give us lots of It, But at least a few for everybody.
They also are so dumb, so forget to Buy Coke, beers or anything… We tryied to Tell to luky to Buy Beer etc. And to sell It to the tourist whit a higher price and his answer was ” we focus on diving”. Okay, They dont have business sense.
We reni the equipment one day and Luky told to us to jeep It in Our bungalow. When we went to pay He wanted us to pay all the 6 days Even if He was the one Who told us to keep it But we didnt use it + in any case it wasnt all the 6 days, ofc we refused to pay all the rupias He asked for.
Luky also ask 13 million to the trip to Penemu!!!!! Wen we went to arborek to Another Homestay (mantas homestay) the owner asked Just 2.5 million x boat (Incredible! !).

    Now the Last point.
    RATS.
Yep, lots of rats, You can See it in the room and the dining place.
Okay, it’s An island, it’s normal, But Still EWW! Why dont They get Cats????
Now the price : 600.000 Rp x2 x night so it’s Not much.

Remember to bring whit You everything! Also better to use your own stuff, They arent very hygienic. If You See the kitchen You stop to eat…lol.
The good thing is that Now i appreciate a lot more everything.
In the end, yes to the beach and the position But a Big no for the rest!!

  • Now a comment on Mangkur-Kodon: great place to be!
first: they have a visa/master card machine, very handy, you don`t need millions of cash.
Luki and boys were very helpful, very warm hearted
    Raymond`s family is very friendly
nice atmospere among tourists and locals alike
food ok water/ tea/ coffee/ available during the day
all meals are taken together, practical and ecological way
+ Very basic facilities (cold Mandis-shower, western toilet in a dark simple room with moskitos), need mosquito coil also in kitchen hut
    + clean houses,
+ nice beach also cleaned up daily,
+ one beautiful water bungalow, the other bungalows also on stilts and made from local materials, with moskito nets
    + friendly lovely people,
+ good & quite new dive equipment and a good dive guide (Raymon and Luki), good price.
We can recommend this place! It was beautiful stay there for more than one week.

  • Spent 13 nights here in February . Bungalow and sleeping arrangements as anywhere else .. With mattress and mosquito net . Rats … No actually a cat ! House reef … Incredible , jumping manta , dolphin all in the bay . The wood on the jetty could do with some repair . We had some great boat trips .. The mandi was just do-able ! The food ? After 13 days it got very boring … Vegetarians and vegans be ware ! Best to do a load of shopping before you come . They kindly let me use the kitchen to top up our food intake ( vegan & veg) please remember tourism is pretty new here , lead by example , no use throwing a tantrum because your breakfast has no croissant ! Bring it with you if you can’t live without it . And please take your rubbish back to Sorong 🙂 ( it costs no extra ) would we stay again … Yes , we liked the place and Raimon & his crew . It took a little while to break the ice . Remember you are coming here and paying for mind blowing snorkeling/diving .. Don’t expect the ritz ! X

  • I have been with mk for 5 days. My experiances have been different.
3 people complaint the breakfast. toastbread with fungers and marmelade.
Lucky answered “when you dont like go other place” this he sayed twice.
Boatstour with lucky: just follow the current. ….When everybody was in the sea he disappeared with the boat…
by a very strong current he left us alone.
We complaint to Raimon his brother.
Raimon told us lucky will get now his own Homestay. .
Plenty of rats all over also in the rooms.

  • Enzo is italian, his wife Maria (Mariama Romben) come from Mamasa, Sulawesi.
I’ve seen many beautiful places & islands in Indonesia, but Raja4 ist the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen….

    • We agree Frans – it sure is! By the way – Enzo and Maria are not associated with Mangkur Kodon any more – they are in a new venture at Kordiris. See Kordiris’ page. All the best and hope you get to return to R4 soon 🙂

  • I am planning a trip to R4 next year. Does anyone knows of any homestay is near to Raja Empat Dive Lodge? I would love to dive with this dive centre but not stay there…too expensive.

    • We don’t know of any homestays on Mansuar Dorelia. The nearest homestay that we know of would be this one (Mangkur Kodon).

    • Hi Marlon – As stated at the top of the page, MK offers diving. We’ve published all the info we have available. You’ll need to contact them for further details. If you have any success and would like to share the info to help other SRA visitors, please feel free to do so. Sorry we couldn’t be more help!

    • Hi Marlon
At MK you never know if they have a boat, fuel, diving gear, compressor and so on! For diving you should go to a expensive resort. They have all the diving gear and you know its working very well. If Luki is at MK its good, but if only Raymond it can be very difficult (food, transport, snorkeling trips). But its for sure one of the most beautiful place in Raja.

      • Thanks. Seems not a convenient option. Anyway, since Raja Ampat is huge, which resort (the budget or the lux ones) that offers a scenic view of this heaven?

  • The phone number seemed a bit too long, but I have just tried now to SMS full number +6281280704010. Waiting for reply, fingers crossed!

    • There’s over 240 million people in Indonesia Edith – and each of them has at least one phone, so the numbers *need* to be long! You’ve worked out the correct form of the number though, so hopefully you’ll get a reply. Best of luck 🙂

      • I understand. I had previous tried to SMS a number found on their website which only had 10 digits including country code?! Hopefully this one is the right one but yes, it seems more like it! Thanks for your website, it is a great help in planning our trip!

        • Really happy to hear it’s been useful to you Edith – thanks 🙂 All the best for a great visit!

  • one tipp: no VISA-ATM in Raja Ampat & Waisai, so bring enough money from Sorong!!!
Else you have to go to Sorong. In Waisai the ATM only accepts MasterCard.
Now a comment on Mangkur-Kodon: great place to be!
+ Great food (even sometimes chips=pommes frites) with lots of fish & chicken in big amounts, enough vegetables… fresh water tastes a bit smokey…

Full info about banking services is available on our site at the Money, Banks and ATMs page.

  • Does anybody know what’s happening at Mangkur Kodon? None of the phone numbers listed on their website respond to SMS and booking requests via their contact page are apparently being ignored. Are they still taking guests?
