April 2025: Mambetron Homestay is still open and operating, but we are unable to offer booking support for them due to a failure of sustainability standards relating to building materials. We hope the issue will be addressed, and that we can restore support for Mambetron soon.
Nestled in the shelter of a jungled cliff on Kri’s north shore, Mambetron Homestay offer five large bungalows.
The VIP bungalows with ensuite bathrooms are located on the beach. All bungalows have a covered verandah with table and bench seating and a hammock. Bungalows are set up for couples, but an extra mattress can be provided on request.
All bungalows sleep two on raised beds. Sheets, pillows, bolsters and a mosquito net are provided, and all rooms have a small table, power outlets and a room light switch. Electric fans are also supplied.
Meals are served in a spacious dining building that also makes the most of the panoramic ocean views across the strait to Gam and Waigeo. The dining room is equipped with large tables and bench seating and free drinking water and tea and coffee making facilities are always available there. There are also power outlets provided for charging devices.
A generator provides electricity from sunset until around midnight and Mambetron Homestay receives a good mobile phone signal which will usually support a data connection.
English is spoken at Mambetron Homestay.
Transport / Getting there
Mambetron Homestay offers Waisai transfers by longboat or speedboat, depending on the number of guests needing to make the trip. Trip cost is shared by passengers.
Longboat transfers can carry 4 passengers max, and cost IDR 800,000 each way.
Speedboat transfers can accommodate 10 passengers, and cost IDR 1,500,000 each way.
You will need to contact Mambetron if you have a preference. (Contact details are provided in booking confirmation emails.)
See this April 2023 price list for transfer prices to other destinations.
Other transfers
Longboat transfers are available between Mambetron Homestay and Sawandarek (Mansuar), Arborek and Gam: Max 4 pax for a shared cost of IDR 500,000

Activities
Nestled in the shelter of a limestone cliff, shaded by coconut palms and backed by the rich jungles of Pulau Kri, Mambetron Homestay is perfect for those looking for a quiet escape while still remaining close to the dive centres on Kri.
Diving and snorkelling
Mambetron's house reef is rich and varied, with a dropoff into deep blue about 50 metres offshore. The dive centers of Koranu Fyak and Yenkoranu are a few hundred metres to the east and diving can be arranged at those for Mambetron Homestay guests.
Snorkellers need to bring their own gear. In addition to being able to freely explore the wonders of Mambetron's house reef, snorkelling trips can be arranged as desired.

Hiking and village visits
At low tide it's possible to walk the entire north shore of Kri. It's also possible to cross the exposed sandbanks between Pulau Kri and Pulau Mansuar to visit the village of Yenbuba, where there's great snorkelling below the jetty. The sandbanks at low tide are also a great way to see a range of marine creatures marooned in pools awaiting the ocean's return. Be sure to wear sunscreen when exploring the sandbanks and be aware of the time if you cross to Mansuar. Stay too long and you'll be trapped by the rising tide! Another possibility would be to arrange to walk over and have Mambetron come and pick you up at high tide.
The homestay can also organise a village visit and/or jetty snorkelling visit by boat if you want.
In addition to coastal walks, there are paths to a panoramic lookout above Kri's western end. The lookout affords spectacular Dampier Strait views to Batanta in the south and across to Gam, Friwen and Waigeo to the north. The view to the west is across the western end of Kri to Pulau Ransiwor and the village of Yenbuba on Mansuar. Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and carry plenty of water. Sunset views from the lookout are wonderful, but remember to pack a light to find your way back - night falls fast in the tropics!

Amazing Homestay. The accommodation is really great. What a nice room, comfortable bed and bathroom inside. Everything was perfect including the food.
The staff is not really engaging but they are very nice and chill.
Unfortunately, their prices for activities are crazy expensive. We had stayed in Arborek just before (which is like 10-15min away) and the prices were almost 3 times cheaper.

Excellent snorkeling. Easy to dive with nearby centers. The room set up was very good. Bedroom up off the sand at water’s edge with ensuite bath in rear so on land. Vegetarians well provided for.

The food was varied and plentful, if we let them know that we were going out early or coming back late for diving they set something aside for us. Electricity from 6pm-6am. A well designed ensuite bathroom and a good space with some thoughts for shade. Reasonable cell service (Telkomsel)
Staff rarely wanted to engage but was able to provide things when requested.
We did diving with the neighboring Yenkoranu Dive Center and it was a great location for that as you could either walk or get a 2 min boat pick up. We saw baby blacktip sharks in the shallows on several occasions and the house reef is great.
We stayed 6 nights in total.
We would happily stay here again or recommend it to friends and family.

Amazing guesthouse!!
Tina and the whole team are doing all their possible to make you enjoy your time at Kri. As vegetarians we appreciated the egg replacement for meat options and as divers the flexibility in lunch times. The sea front bungalow was spacious, clean and well equipped. We highly recommend!

Amazing and quiet place, very good location (45 min by small boat). Incredible snorkeling just in front of the bungalows, they provide you with mask and fins. The food was delicious and varied except the breakfast but we already knew it and we confirmed it’s the standard everywhere. We missed more comunication and information about the installations from the staff.
We loved our stay there! Tina and all the people around were very nice, the food was delicious and we even got extra eggs everyday cause we are vegetarian. The room is spacious and clean (no rats during our stay) and the shower and toilet in the room is also great (other Homestays don’t have them in the room but shared bathrooms). Also the house reef is amazing for snorkelling.
Would definitely stay there again!

Loved my stay here. Tina and the staff are wonderful hosts. Food was delicious. Service was timely. Rooms were spacious, clean, and loved the on suit bathrooms. The beach was diligently raked every day to pristine condition. Also no sign of rats during my stay, despite their notorious reputation on Kri island.

Our stay at the homestay was excellent! The sea views were breathtaking, and the food was delicious. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive, making us feel right at home. One standout feature of this homestay is the wide range of activities available, setting it apart from others that don’t offer the same variety. We had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend it to others!

Lovely Homestay with great bungalows.
The house reef was beautiful, but you have to know that it is difficult to get into the water at low tide. Not far away you can also get into the water at low tide via a jetty.
The homestay offers all kinds of excursions and transportation.
The food was very good and reasonably varied.
Large plastic boxes were provided in the rooms to protect food and other things from unwanted animals.
The only thing was that the welcome and interaction with the owners was not as warm as you would expect from other homestays. We were pretty much left alone on the first day and other guests had to explain how everything works to us.

Mambetron Homestay is one of my favorite homestay in Kri. The room is big and they have private toilet.
The House reef is super amazing! The food is delicious and enough for people who stay there.
They also has the boat for service and organize the trip while I am in Kri.
Maya and Ronald is so lovely. I will go back to stay there again.

My absolute favourite place. My second time here with Tina and the team. They welcome you like family. Rooms are big and spacious. Ensuite. They supply buckets for snacks (keep medicine in here too. The rats eat everything, including the bag to get what they want). The reef for snorkeling is some of the best I’ve ever seen. So much sealife and you may be lucky to see dolphins and mantas breaching infront of the rooms.

This homestay is ideally located in front of an incredible snorkelling spot and close to Cap Kri. The food is very good, the location is perfect for sunsets, and the bungalows are spacious. A word of advice : don’t keep any food in your bungalow, or you’ll be woken up all night by mouse ! Download an Indonesian translation app to make it easier to talk to Papua people.

Fantastic stay at membatron.
Tina and Ricky were great hosts, happy to help with anything.
Food was tasty, varied and served on time.
There’s good 4g signal with reasonably fast speeds.
The ensuit bathrooms are great and definitely a luxury compared to most homestays.
The only thing guests must be made aware of is that exposed snacks will become a target for rats. make sure you keep your snacks in your suitcase or Somthing similar,if left in a plastic packets or soft bags it may become a meal.

Plus points: Thina is a friendly host and cooks good food. Especially on the last day when she cooked us grilled fish (with tasty sambal!) and some other seafood. Also food-wise, she always tried to accommodate our request like the time when we asked for some limes which are appreciated. There are several bathrooms so you won’t need to queue, some with a western shower and toilet, some others with a tub and a squat toilet. She helped to arrange our tour to Piaynemo at a reasonable price. Electricity also runs from dusk till dawn which is good for our electronics.
Downsides: the homestays looks a little bit rundown compared to the pictures. There were some water drips to our bed when raining due to the leaking roof. At that time, there was also a lot of trash just outside the bungalows although this perhaps was partly contributed by the rainy season that washed the trashes ashore. We particularly didn’t like her boat arrangement on our way back to Waisai. First, the boat came late to pick us up, which we later found out because she organized some locals to join us in the boat. Second, due to these unexpected locals who joined us in the boat, the boat exceeded its capacity from 12 to 14 people (15 with a child!), basically there were more locals than us guests. Third, having more passengers in the boat also increased our risks of COVID infection. While we normally don’t mind having the locals join our ride to Waisai even though we rented the boat privately, but we regret this wasn’t communicated to us in the beginning. I suppose we need to say something when it’s potentially risking our safety and health in the boat ride. So we kinda regret this part. But overall, our stay was quite enjoyable at Mambetron.

This is a really nice place. My room was perfect, with a braaaandnew matress and hammock on the terrasse (In 11/2019) . Food offers more variation than some other places i ve visited before and is really tasty. Just the breakfast is nothing for me: cakes and sweets (Thina: just rice and eggs would be nice).
The homestay is at a good place to do some snorkeling nearby (the reef is just in front of the door). I ve found the Wobbehong and a resident group of blacktip sharks.
Thina is a really nice host – friendly, helpful and flexible.
Thanks a lot!
For Diving, Delvins Shop is right next door or you can go to Yenkoranu. The other dive shops need some more organization, as you can only walk there in low tight (when i was there, it was around midday) – so dives requiere a pick up service of the dive centers, but this seems to be possible.
I dived with Delvin. Nice shop, nice people – but take special care of rental equipment checks – some gear is not in a perfect condition and may not work properly as this is a really remote place and to fix things seems to be hard (example: finimeter shows to much air, inflator inflates bcd nonstop…..). I recommend own gear or you should be advanced in checking your gear. For beginners: i would recoomend to dive with Heike, a german instructor, who is working there. Here briefings are more detailled and her understanding of safety is more the western way – so she will take good care of you.
thanks a lot to Delvin, Heike and Team, i really enjoyed to dive with you.

This is an average to good homestay and meant for the adventurous type.
The accommodation is pretty basic: one room per cottage. Each cottage is raised on stilts, has a wooden mainframe, a wooden floor. The thatched roof and walls are made of dry nipa palm leaves (also known as attap). The bed is a mattress on the floor, but a bamboo matt is spread under the mattress. A mosquito net drops from the ceiling and closes the mattress. They do put on clean bed sheets and pillow cover. Some of the older cottages have electric fans. No fans in the newer cottages. Electricity is generated by a fuel run generator, so it could get noisy in the evening particularly if you stay in the newer cottages. Electricity runs from sunset (6.30-ish p.m) till 6.00-ish a.m.
The toilet and ladling bath (mandi) are shared (apparently the facility is better than the neighbouring homestay’s (Delvins?), as guests from there often use Mambetron’s shared toilet and ladling bath. The toilet and ladling bath share the same building, but are separated by a two meters+ wall. The toilet is bare, i.e. without a toilet seat and cover, but not a squat toilet. Water in the large container (timba) in the toilet is replenished three times a day. Water in the bath container (bak mandi) is replenished twice a day, but when the water is low, you can always ask the manager or staff to turn to refill the bath water container.
Food is shared in a common dining area, where drink water and hot water bottles, three containers each containing teabags, coffee and sugar are located. Your stay includes 3 meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast caters more for western guests: pancakes or fish floss filled buns. If the cook is feeling happy, fried rice or yellow rice (using turmeric) is served in the morning. Rice, wok stir-fried veggies and fish for lunch and dinner. Sometimes fried noodles are added. The fish is cooked in spices, so taste it first before you take a piece of it.
Oh, yes, there are rats, they are at times visible but most times (particularly in the evening) audible. But they don’t bite you. If you bring food, make sure it is put in a sealed tin case. Or, have your food deposited in the kitchen’s locker. The rats can smell the aroma of your food and anything with a rat-saliva-inviting aroma, e.g. shampoo, toothpaste, peanuts and snacks, and gnaw into the package. There are less or no rats in the newer cottages.
No bugs, mosquitos or sandflies at Mambetron. There is the odd cockroach, but generally the insects don’t bother you too much. If they do disturb you, just relocate to the semi finished building at the jetty and sleep or nap there. The cool sea breeze lulls you to sleep, and keeps the bugs away. Nice, except when it rains.
Mambetron has white sandy beach, with a long swash zone. The coral reef at the end of the swash zone is beautiful, lots of coral fish and predatory fish. But it is a long swim to get there (at low tide, about 100m from the shore to the coral reef). You should go there during high tide. (During low tide, please do not to stand on or walk across the swash zone as it has lots of living corals. Standing and walking across the swash zone could damage the corals.)
The homestay has its own long boat with an outboard engine and crew, which could be rented after they’ve done their daily chores (guests pick up and transfer, transporting logistics and equipment etc.). The crew would be pleased to take you to Yenbuba jetty and Sawandarek at Mansuar island. These are worth visiting, if you like snorkelling. It is also possible to ask the crew to take you to Friwen wall, across the straight, as it is also worth your visit. The current there, however, is usually rather strong.
The homestay manager, Tina, is helpful, but rather shy and is not used to outsiders’ (read: guests’) different cultures and communication habits. She speaks very little English, and mainly communicates in Indonesian. This is where there is a possibility for misunderstandings, complaints, and disappointments. Once you arrive at the homestay, you are her guest, so you should learn local manners and logic. Don’t impose your logic and common sense to her or her staff. Bring an Indonesian phrase book to help you get your message across. Unfortunately, even then, Tina or the others may not give you a straight answer, as this would be considered improper. Try to feel your way on whether her or their “yes” actually means “subject to daily chores completed”, “subject to weather, current and wave permitting”, “possibly” or even “no”. And always explain why you need to be transported at a certain time, if you must catch the Waisai ferry to Sorong.
Also remember that the homestays in Raja Ampat are controlled directly or indirectly by the local clan, so always be nice, even if you wish to relocate to another homestay. It appears that the homestay managers and staff know those in other homestays. One advantage is that you can get Tina to communicate to your next homestay destination that you will be coming, at what time, and whether you need a meal when you get there. But one downside is if you are considered a difficult guest in one homestay, this spreads to the next homestay destination before you reach there.
All in all Mambetron is a nice place to stay.
Hi, which are the newer bungalows? land or beach?
Thanks a lot
Thank you, Sultan! Your report is very helpful!

Tina and Tina 2 are nice Sisters. I stay One week. My bungalow was quite big and clean. The food is tasty. At Lunch fish, at Dinner fish or meat. Vegetable, Rice and often noodle, too. Mango or Papaya or melon. All in all super food and enough. Toilette get cleaned every day. I felt very comportable. Thank youhu.
Even Tina man es a Reservation for the next homestay. Thank you

Booked this place back in May 2018 for two of us. It was a relief when I received a reminder just a couple of days before the commence of the trip.
We called Thina from the ferry terminal in Sorong to remind of our ferry arrival time. But she was NOT there to meet us but managed to locate her with the help of the friendly staff at Stayrajaampat. We shared the transfer with three other persons for the crossing to Kri. The rest is history.
We all enjoyed the simplicity of the place and none of us had any problem with the infamous rats except the couple who had food inside their cottage.
Everything has to be brought in from Waisai including drinking water. So we all understand that food shortage could be problematic but no one starved.
All in all it was a good decision to stay at Mambetron.

Great locations with the accommodation right on the beach. The reef at your doorstep is awesome with plenty of marine life, beautiful drop off. Good food, cold Bintang and Thina can organise everything you want.

We would not recommend Mambetron. We stayed here in February 2018. The accommodation is basic (just like on the pictures), the food is simple but tasty and the island is really beautiful. But we still left one day earlier than originally planned – because of the rat plague. We had no food in our hut and everything was carefully packed and hanging but the rats would still come in and wake us up at night. The huts are open so you cannot prevent the rats and cockroaches from getting inside. They will even eat your regulator, mask, fins … if left on the ground (like our neighbor did). The locals (including Mambetron) dump their garbage too close to the accommodation so the rats are a problem and you can see them basically everywhere at night. We were disappointed with Tina’s ‘surprised’ reaction when we told her. Also good to mention is that there is no fresh water at the island so it’s basically the sea water you need to shower with (depending on how much rain the island gets at the time of your visit). Tina and the staff are polite but not unnecessarily friendly. We would also recommend to have a back-up plan when you want to leave. We originally planned to return to Waisai with another boat but Tina convinced us to join her boat instead. At the date of departure, she walked by twice and saw that we were waiting for the boat (from 7am as agreed) but only when she was passing by for the third time and we explicitly asked her about the boat, she told us with a smile that there was a change of plans and the boat was most likely leaving in the afternoon. Not really helpful if your flight is departing in the afternoon … So all in all, we would not recommend Mambetron.

We spent 5 days in Mambetron, the location and the bungalows are great. Clean, actually really comfy matrase with a mosquito net, a table and a fan is the room. The bunglaow and the patio are right at the beach with two hammocks to chill in. Food is plenty and amazing, tuna, fish, chicken, veggies, rice, tempe… theres always fruits and some cakes as well; tea, coffee, water all the time.
The boat from Waisai is about 45min and 600K IDR/boat, but the homestays on Kri manage to get the people to take the same boat on arrival, so theres a big change to split the cost.
The house reef is amazing, sharks, turtles, eagle rays, bumpheads can be seen just a few meters from the bungalow.
First we dove with Koranu Fyak, which i dont recommend as the owner is ignorant, not friendly and does whetever he wants. Then we dove with Yenkoranu which I can highly recommend, amazing dives.
Hello, how do you travel to waisai and the homestay. I only find flights to Sorong (sky scanner) greetings richie

Just stayed a week at Mambetron and enjoyed our stay. Comfortable cabin with chairs, a table, mattress on the floor, mosquito net, hammock and fan. No safe for valuables but we had a travel one. Food is plentiful, breakfast simple fruits/cakes, lunch and dinner combination of chicken/fish/tofu/rice/noodles/cooked veg. I quite liked it, my wife tired of it by the end of the week.
House reef in front of Mambetron is fantastic, regularly see sharks huge schools fish and nice corals. There are rats around, we took precaution and kept no food in our room and other than hearing them gave us no problem. Common bathroom (1 pedestal toilet and one squat) and bucket shore behind the cabins. Met some great people while here.
Diving through Yenkoranu less then 10 min walk away, would recommend them.

We stayed 10 days at Mambetron and have enjoyed our stay a lot. Thina (the host) is amazing, she will do everything to help (even though she is not always smiling ;).
The bungalows are simple but spacious, there is a mosquito net which is mandatory. Right on the beach.
The food was super good, even if it was quite simple and a lot of fish and rice of course. Apparently, it is more diverse than other home stays.
We also went on a snoreklling trip one day, perfect (although the weather was not amazing), we had packed lunches and plenty of water.
There is a great dive center at 50 meters down the beach (Rag-D). It opened a few months ago and is run by young and motivated Indonesian, we had a blast (super safe and great equipment).
All in all, we can only recommend Mambetron, as it was a great place to stay for us.

Tina was great , she was in touch with me from the start of the booking to rom the end.
The room was great big , the food amazing.
You are next to the diving center.witch is the best if you want to who on the trip for diving or snokeling.
If you want to snokle only. The best spot is just in front of the accomodation.
You don t need to go far.
You can just relax.
The people from Mambreton and diving center are amazing.
I will be back for sure and recommand to everyone.

Very nice stay with great snorkeling just in front of the homestay, a perfect place to chill! Thina is very helpful and organize interesting tours, we did Pianemo. The bungalows and facilities are clean, the food is good. Thina does her best to satisfy her customers. It is also a good place to meet friendly people.

Very nice stay here . The huts were clean and food was great . The house reef was amazing for snorkeling. If staying here make sure you arrange pick up it’s much easier. I would stay again!

We (a group of 9 students) stayed at Mambeton at 22 of August 2017 for 2 Nights. Thina welcomed us in Waisai and we could go together with the prepared Speedboot to the Mambetron Homestay.
Thina is a very nice and sympatic woman who can cook very good food.
we lived in three Appartements near the ocean. At one day we want to snorkling she lend us fins and told us where the best place is to snorkling.
Thina is always there if we needed help or something. The beach is good, the riff is very beautyful and the sunset is awsome. The price for the rooms is very cheep and when I go again to Raja Ampat I will stay at her homestay again. I love it there.
I have no kritik because it was the perfekt ending of our Jouth camp in Papua.

We stayed in Mambetron by April 2016. Food was great, location was very good, hospitality was good. The cook told us that if we wanted to thank her we should gave her tips. It was a bit rude but as fellow Indonesians I understood that she really needed money. Mambetron was quite full by that time and we got a room on the back and I think they didn’t change the sheet. The pillow case had s strong sweat smell.
The owner of Mambetron is a skilled diver and he has his own dive shop in Mambetron. We liked diving with them and the equipments were good.
Careful not to take fruits of foods into the inn, like in any homestays in Raja Ampat, because if you do so rats will wreck your room at night.
I wrote some of my Raja Ampat experience in my blog
Didn’t manage to cover the Kri part but the info would still be useful I think.

We stayed at Mambetron in January and had a lovely experience. Tina was friendly and nice. She picked us up from Sorong and made sure our stay was wonderful. We stayed in one of the cabins on the beach and just had an amazing time there. Don’t expect any luxury when it comes to the interior, but for us that’s what made the experience so valuable. When you’re lying in the hammock, looking over the bright turquoise sea, you don’t need anything more than what you got. Food was typical Raja Ampat, not too special but always more than enough. If you have your doubts staying at a homestay which doesn’t have its own diving school, don’t worry! We dove with Koranu Fyak 10 days in a row and there was always room for us. We can strongly recommend them too.
Also, if you’re afraid by the rats… So was I before I went, but in the end it was fine. We did see a couple but always far away on the roof and never close by. Also, some people made me think there were MASSIVE groups of them hanging around everywhere, that’s just not true!
We wanted to go to the village to book our next flights, since there’s hardly any internet on the island. We would ask Tina and she’d always arrange a boat to go there and to pick us u[ that same evening.
We’ve had an amazing holiday at Raja Ampat. Even if you don’t like diving, the snorkling is amazing too. Would strongly recommend staying with Tina/Mambetron!

I stayed there from 30 January-1 February 2017. We just booked our bungalow 2 days earlier when we passed by and it was ready for us when we arrived. Nice big room with 2 mattresses on the floor with sheets/pillows/mosquito nets. There is a problem with rats on Kri Island, so we were recommended to hand in our snacks to the kitchen to avoid unwelcome visitors at night. One did come by but he didn’t find anything so left again. The bungalow No. 2 is very nice right on the beach with a nice terrace. The toilet/mandi (Indonesian scoop wash) is right behind this hut so it’s very handy. The food was nice and plentiful. The reef in front of the bungalow is really nice and teeming with fish, black tipped sharks, a couple of turtles as well. Kris island is more busy and Mambetron Homestay is not as secluded as the 3 others I stayed in on Gam and Waigeo Islands, but there is the advantage of hooking up with other visitors for the more expensive boating trips to Painemo/Fam islands. I can recommend this homestay.

We were 3 friends travelling in december 2016. The homestay has a really nice atmosphere – party oriented, but that depends of the crowd that is there at the moment. Owners speak good english. The food was very tasty and varied. The special thing: cold bintang is available! So if you want to cut the peace and quiet and party a little this is the place.
The bungalows are big and ours even got a bed. The matrassess could be better.
I have to confirm there are a lot of rats, more than other two homestays we visited. One bungalow had bedbugs – however one cant know if they brought it with them or if they were originally here.

We stayed here for 2 nights in December.
Good points:
– The reef in front of the accommodation is not bad.
– Fluorescents plankton in the night
– Near to Pasir Timbul and snorkelling around Kri is ok.
– Food is ok.
Not so good points:
– Toilet is horribly dirty!! So dirty I could not use it for the first morning.
– Shower is dark but better than toilet.
– When we arrived, they made us waiting for 1.5 hours just to provide us with hot water to make cup of tea. Room was not ready because the previous guests just check-out, that’s acceptable, but 1.5 hours just to provide us with hot water (which is suppose to be supplied 24/7) is not good.
– Rat in the bungalow. There is no rat at the other 3 accommodations we stayed during the trip. This rat got into my luggage too! Opened one of my snack.
– Do not expect afternoon tea or snack in this accommodation. Bring yours with you but zip up your luggage ALL the time (see point above). Other accommodation provided us with afternoon tea/fruits.
– We almost check-out 1 day earlier because despite the boat booking I did via sms before we arrived, on the day that we supposed to go for snorkelling around Kri Thina informed me that there is no boat available for us because the bigger group use it for a trip to Painemo. Offered us to go to Painemo with them but I said no because I will go there when I stayed in a closer island to Painemo. I had to say to Thina that I will check-out that day if there is no boat for us as I have no point to stay in Kri. And voila, there is a boat for us. 🙂
In general, I won’t bother to stay in Kri again (except maybe if you need to be close to diving centre, not sure). If you only going to snorkel, don’t bother stay in Kri, it’s too crowded and operator are more commercial (read: money hungry).

We had a good time here, location is perfect and the reef in front very nice, we saw lots of sharks, a cuttlefish and two eagle rays! Sandbank between Kri and mansouar is absolutely stunning! At night we enjoyed the biolumniscent plankton, especially on boat rides.
Communication with homestay family was sometimes difficult. Food was ok, basic but enough.
Do not forget to bring your own towels and bed sheets!
Would be nice to get some welcome information when you arrive and a place with information about snorkel sites and boat trips. This was something (important) we missed at Mambetron!

No acces to bungalow that i booked half year earlier.
Constant noise of generator(of course you can wear earplugs at nigth)
barking dogs at nigthtime.
10-13 year boy “poured his morning urine” back of my bungalow.
No,i did not enjoyed my stay in here.

– pick up really bad 7hours of delay
– bungalow nice but the view are not as nice on the picture
– food ok but we can find much more better in the area
If you are looking quiet and beautiful beach bungalow I recommend to go in the south if the island.

5 days in October 2016. Very nice place to stay. House reef is very good – I saw ten black tip sharks in one morning while snorkeling! Thina is really “heart & soul” of Mambetron. Bungalows are clean and spacious. Food was not exceptional during our stay, but always good and there was always enough of it. Lovely beach. Etc, etc. Just one thing I’d love to write – more for you guys from stayrajaampat.com. Snorkeling tours: “Prices in the table below are per trip and are shared among passengers. Trips are by speedboat and can accommodate up to 8 people at a time.” – we have felt that it means PER BOAT, but it’s actually PER PERSON. Which is not Mambetron’s fault (pricing is more or less the same everywhere in Kri) but it could be tricky because you need to bring a lot of cash and for example trip to Fam Islands (6.000.000 IDR PER BOAT) in less than let’s say 10 people might get your budget into troubles. The phrasing should be more precise 🙂 Anyway – thanks a lot for the job you’re doing with your website! We enjoyed our stay in Raja Ampat very much!
Hi Miroslav and Eva –
Your understanding is quite right: We were told the prices were per boat! Thanks so much for taking the time to update us – we’ve fixed that now. Great to hear you had a fabulous time at Mambetron 🙂

Amazing Trip to Raja Ampat.
The booking with http://www.stayrajaampat.com worked perfect and Thina was already waiting for us in Wasai for the pick up as planned. The boar trip to Kri was a bit bumpy but we arrived safely at Mambetron Homestay. The bungalows of Mambetron Homestay are really close to the sea. In the high tide only 2meters. They were clean and quite big. Thina took really good care of us. She helped us with the organization for our dive trips, she kept everything clean, filled up what was empty….
But the best thing was the food. For breakfast we had pancakes or cake with bananas. Lunch and dinner was never boring as she always prepared something different: Very tasty fish, a lot of different vegetables, tempeh and chicken. We never left the table hungry and we never had any trouble with our stomach. In fact I felt really good after this week without junk food.
Diving with Yenkoranu was also great and very relaxed.
We can absolutely recommend this homestay.

It’s a very nice place in the middle of the long beach on the northern side of Kri. The bungalows look beautiful and stable and if you have a hammock in front you can enjoy the desired protection against the sun. From Mambetron you can go left or right to find other homestays nearby, eventually to look for people to plan your tours and adventures together . I especially enjoyed the family-like atmosphere here, when guests meet for lunch or dinner, so people can have a lot of fun together and share their experiences easily. The meals tasted good and were always sufficient in amount , especially for hungry divers. Coffe, tea and water is for free, and you probably need a lot of it. The diet is obviously and naturally based on fish and chicken. Just remember it’s a homestay and not a hotel, what has to be considered also in some other concern. But I looked for this and so I never had a probIem. And I think Tina has a lot to care and think for with the continously changing guests. I have been here in the second half August 2016 and the weather for luck was pretty fine.

I stayed for 4 nights in this homestay and we enjoyed every single moment that we had there. We love the bungalow that we stayed in, the food, the snorkeling and the view. Everything was just great. What we appreciate even more is the service given by thina, the owner of the homestay. He is a very friendly and accommodating person. journey very well priced (compared to other homestay) and very well organized.
Really recommend this homestay!

I stay 6 nights in this homestay.
So, why 2 stars ?
I don’t recommand this homestay because :
– after 3 days, i was sick, turista, diarrhea ;
– Tina doesn’t speak a good english and just wanted my money, I asked her to go to Sawinggray village in an other homestay and she said, i don’t know, then I learnt that one member of her family has a homestay there, so he knows the price and other homestay ;
– she doesn’t know many informations about Wayag and pianemo, and asked me a lot of money to go there compare to others homestay in Kri island ;
– after 3 days, no more water to take a shower and for the toilet, Tina said, sorry the water pomp doesn’t work anymore ;
– food was correct and only 3 hours of electricity per night ;
– bungalow was nice with a nice view.
I realy enjoy Rajat Ampat but not this homestay, you can find many homestays in Kri Island.
Je ne recommande pas cet homestay et pourquoi ?
– apres seulement 3 jour sur place, je suis tombe malade, une bonne turista ;
– Tina ne parle quasiment pas Anglais et veut seulement votre argent. J’ai demande pour aller dans un autre homestay au village de Sawinggray mais elle ne connaissait pas les prix et ne savait pas si il y avait des homestay or j’apprendrai plus tard qu’un membre de sa famille a un homestay la bas ;
– elle ne connaissait pas Wayag et Pianemo, elle m’a demande une somme considerable pour aller la bas alors que les prix demandes par les autres homestays sont bien plus raisonnable ;
– apres 3 jours, plus d’eau pour les toilettes et prendre une douche, Tina me dis “desole mais la pompe ne marche plus.’ ;
– la nourriture etait correct si vous aimez le poissons et seulement 3 heures d’electricite par jour ;
– le bungalow est sympa avec une tres belle vue.
Rajat Ampat est une destination super et il y a beacoup d’autres homestays sur l’ile de Kri donc allez dans un autre homestay.

14/8/2016 – 20/8/2016: we stayed here for 5 nights. it was great! best value for money on this side of Kri, in my opinion!
Tina makes effort to give some variety of food. the bungalows are on the beach. you can go snorkling at any time of the day, the hamocks on the veranda are the best, since it is too hot to lay on the beach 🙂
on this side of Kri it is easy to walk to the other homestays and find other people to organize excursions for lowering the cost of the boat.

We stayed here for 5 days in March. Good accommodation, excellent food and friendly staff. Snorkel right off shore or walk across the island and snorkel back. Yudas was super….took us to Manta Point and managed to see them right on the surface. Went to Friewin Wall and he showed us tons of things that most people would miss. Tina cooked up a storm that catered to the vegetarians and the meat eaters. Kri is getting pretty crowded but this is a great place to stay.

Hi,
Thanks very much for all the useful information provided on this website.
We want to book at Mambetron Homestay but the email address provided on this website doesn’t work: mambetronhomestay@gmail.com
We don’t want to book on the form because first we want to ask some questions to the owners regarding snorkeling trips. We want to make sure that we will be able to make trips for reasonable rates and if it’s possible to arrange a daily trip to Piaynemo.
As SMS is not a useful contact for us, could you please provide the right e-mail??
Thanks and best regards,
Bernat.
You’re welcome Bernat 🙂
We have sent Mambetron an SMS asking for their correct email address. Hopefully we will hear from them soon.
Hello Stay Raja Ampat team,
I tried to contact them via email and it got bounced back. Have you figured out whether they are having internet issues / changed email / or any other technical issue? We’d like to check dates and diving options with them.
Your reply will be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Monica
Hi Monica –
Still haven’t heard from them about this! If you need to ask questions before requesting a booking, then you’ll need to do so by SMS to one of the above numbers. We’ll remove that email address until we’re given a working one.

I stayed at Mambetron for five days with a friend, and it wasn’t long enough! We would love to have stayed forever. The bungalows are basic, but everything we needed – a clean bed, mosquito net, and room to spread out a bit. During the day (when not out diving and swimming), we spent most of our time lounging in our porch hammocks – the views of the water, beach, and neighboring islands are amazing. Bathrooms were clean with a toilet and small salt-water basin on one side, and a large salt-water basin for showering on the other (divided by a bamboo wall). Thina cooked amazing lunches and dinners (and convenient grab-and-go breakfasts), and took great care of us as we arranged transport and daily activities.
Be sure that you bring some mosquito repellent for time spent outside your mosquito net, ask about storing any snacks or food outside your bungalow, and be aware that electricity generally runs only at night.
While Mambetron does not have their own dive shops, a few dot the beach going in both directions. Have a walk around and explore your options. We were diving with Wobbegong Dive Adventure and had a great time.
Kri Island is a tropical paradise, and Mambetron Homestay is a home-away-from-home. Can’t wait to go back!
Thanks for everything to sayu with my family at mambetron and i hope you have to come again to this place thank and enjoy your holiday at mambetron.

We LOVED our stay at Mambetron. We originally booked for 5 nights…then extended by 13 days. Our hut was great, directly facing the water and only about 2 meters from the beach with a hammock to lounge in during the day and a bench to watch sunset right on the beach. Mambetron does not have a list or dive school but the amazing pier is an easy 5 minute walk and you can drift back to Mambetron as we did every day (or drift to the pier depending on current). Also for tours or diving Thina arranged them for us with other guesthouses and got us a great deal. The food Thina made was EXCELLENT! Huge portions of veggies, fish, chicken, rice and sometimes tempeh, she even surprised my wife with a delicious birthday cake! Thank you Thina! Also there is fruit and bread/cake left out for snacking throughout the day as is tea and coffee. The only things we could think of to improve are mainly things which are unavoidable on the island, mosquitos (there’s a good net for sleeping though), salt water showers, and some 4 legged creatures (don’t keep bars of soap in your bag!). We had a great time and would recommend Mambetron to anyone and when we come back we will be at Membetron!

We stayed in Mambetron for 8 days in April 2016 and we enjoyed it very much.
Tina is very hospitable making every effort to help you with any wish even when it is beyond the normal duty of the homestay owner.
Food is always good in quality and enough in quantity. Tina cooked separate not spicy food for us when we asked her about this.
Huts (bungalow) are nice and comfortable.
Generally, the Mambetron homestay looks most clean, nice and homelike of all homestays on Kri (we walked around the island).
Snorkling directly from the homestay beach is amazing. We saw sharks, turtles, rays in addition to thousands of various fish, corals and other animals. However, underwater landscape is even more diverse along the opposite shore of the island.

We have stayed in Mambetron and Monkairi in May 2016 and can at least compare these two homestays.
We gave 5 out of 5 stars because we were pretty satisfied with everything. We can recommend to go there.
Yudas, the owner speaks very basic English but it is ok to arrange the necessary. Anyways, Tina was at the homestay to take good care of us. Her English is better and you can have simple conversations with her. We always felt she appreciated to have a chat.
For both of them our wellbeing was very important. When they dropped us of at Yenbuba jetty and we told them we will walk back to the homestay, they came again after some time to see if we are still fine.
Accommodation:
Mambetron has beachfront bungalows with sea view and 4 bungalows without a sea view. So we recommend mentioning your wish during your booking. The bungalows are spacious. Even with an extra mattress provided for our kids, there is enough room for the luggage and to move around. Furthermore pillows, mosquito nets and towels are provided. Really nice is the balcony equipped with a chair, small table and a hammock to enjoy the view. We found the bungalows are still in good shape. Furthermore there second toilet/bathroom building is already built and in use. One thing to notice: only saltwater is available.
Food:
Except Sunday, we had fish, rice and vegetables. For breakfast we had fried banana (always) and some other small things. We were satisfied with quality and taste. Two things that could be improved. First they should let their guests know when the lunch is ready. Second they could buy a pot for the rice that is fully closed. One time we could not eat the rice because it was full of ants. Another time we just noticed that lunch is on the table early enough to get rid of the ants making their way into the rice pot.
Transport:
Despite the statements in the description on this website we were always transported by 80hp speedboat. It always came from the neighboring Yenbuba village, but was there when we needed it.
Location/Surrounding:
A really nice reef, a beautiful beach but a very strong impact of low- and high tide. So snorkeling during low tide is almost impossible. But you can ask for trips to the nearby Yenbuba Jetty. It’s only a 5 min boat ride. If you are lucky somebody from Mambetron has to go to the village of Yenbuba anyways and they just can take you along. Sawandarek jetty and Manta Point are also nice snorkeling spots in closer distance (ca. 30 min).
Money:
We have arranged a price before our stay by writing SMS which worked out fine.

We stayed on Kri for 4 weeks, though we had planned to move around the islands more,we could never make ourselves leave Mambetron. We felt very at home there and were sad to go when we finally had to.Our nine year old daughter became good friends with Albert,Yudas son.The marine life is fantastic and like going back 20 years compared to many places. We eat vegetarian food and Tina nearly always had Tempeh or tofu for us,you just need to explain thats what you want so they know.As slowly more people find this area, the last thing it needs is tourists eating the fish.We recommend leaving it for the locals. In Thailand these days many species are only seen on the barbecue…..demand for that gives all the wrong messages about why people are coming, what they need and adds environmental pressure. This is one of the most important and amazing marine protected areas in the world.Yudas is a special man we felt,a great host with a lovely family. We miss them and Kri very much.We will be back !

I was planning to stay 3 nights, but only stayed one. The homestay was ok, large bungalows facing the ocean, nice outdoor verandah, clean toilet & shower block. Foodwise, the regular Raja Ampat fish, rice, eggs, one vegies. Breakfast was disappointing with only cup cakes and bananas. I asked Tina for an egg dish, which seemed to displease her somehow, and got a burned plain omelet, totally inedible. while I understand the difficulty and extra costs involved in getting things to the island, the locals make a decent living out of the rp 350,000 / person charged per day, so they should make some effort to meet simple requests as this.
We have been there for 6 nights. I didn’t have bed bugs and I didn’t see a rat like I have read another comments. . People told me they saw some rats but it seams to be worst in the other side of the island. We didn’t have food inside the bungalow so everything was ok. The food was very good and enough, no one left the table hungry. There was fish, chicken, tempe, veggies, fruits, sometime eggs… The bungalows are pretty nice and we were very happy. I had a look into other accommodations but all have same kind of mattress so I don’t think you find a kind of western mattress in kri. The shower toilette/mandi was very nice. The WC could be better but during our stay they were building a new toilette area. What we found special in our stay was the people in the other bungalows: mostly europeans or international couples, no party people and we had very nice conversations, it was somehow very funny. In our time there it was very easy to organize boot trips with the other people in the bungalows. We swam with mantas and sharks. In front of the bungalow there is a quite nice reef and you can walk to the other side of the island to check other reefs. We would like to come back.

Great staff. Very warm welcome. What a lovely place, super snorkeling from the beach in front of the bungalow. Very good cooking, all day long. Strongly recommended to any snorkeler. Judas, the boss, guided us successfully up to the giant manta rays! You will love that place.

We stayed at Mambetron for 5 nights and enjoyed it so much. Yudas, the owner is such a good man and he speaks English, not like his daughter Tina, but then she is a very good cook! Food was always fresh and abundant. We use to get home baked cake or muffins for b’fast, then rice, vegetables, fish or chicken for lunch and dinner.
The bungalows are basic but clean, looking towards the sea. Shared western style toilet and dip mandi is available near to the rooms.
We went at Manta point with Yudas and it was great, he’s a good spotter and swimmer and a responsible man. Great sun down from the benches on the beach!
We highly recommend this homestay.

I agree! 🙂 Tinas is a great cooker and Yudas the best Manta spotter!

We liked this homestay a lot! The staff is very friendly and hospitable and Yudas the owner speaks English and is very helpful. The bungalows are spacious and clean, food is plentiful and varied. The veggies were taken care of with tempeh and tofu. They also provide hammocks and towels. During our stay a brand new bathroom building was erected (with separate spaces for toilet and dip mandi). 5 of the 9 bungalows face the sea directly,. There are also trees around the bungalows where you can hang your hammock.
They were making things even more comfortable by building wooden leisure benches on the beach in front of the bungalows.
We spent the first 13 days of our three week raja ampat stay in February here, and came back for the last couple of days after touring Gam.
All in all we felt very much at home in this fantastic place! Highly recommended.

Highly recommended!! We stay in Mambetron 6 days/5 nights and this homestay is exactly what we were looking for. Good value for the budget, the best cooker and owner and don’t need to talk about the surroundings. The bungas are basic but in general are the same around the island in other homestays. The food was really really good and in abundance. Everyday we had rice, some vegetables and fish, Yuda’s mom is a really good cooker. Yudas is an excellent owner, he always try to do his best to help you to make your stay unic and unforgettable even the language is a barrier. If you are a diver you have Yenkoranu and Koranu Fyak just a few minutes walk and as Mambetron is smaller than them you can find more people to go to Fam if you want. If you are not a diver don’t worry, the reef in front of the homestay are plenty of turtles, reef sharks, barracudas, and thousands and thousands of diferent coloured fishes. Just unbelievable!
It’s true that Yudas doesn’t speak so much english but you can contact Hein (his nephew) and he speaks it better. We did it and he helped us a lot!
Totally recommended! It’s the closer to the paradise!
Hay Txell and Xavi,
did you go to painemo? how much the cost for 1 boat?
i just called pak yesaya and he told me that the price is IDR 6M for 1 day tour to painemo.. is that correct?
Pak Yesaya? You’re not confusing Mambetron here with Mambefor are you Gloria?
Hola Xavi i Txell,
No sé si veureu aquest missatge.
Nosaltres no fem diving, només snorkel. Per allà a prop es pot fer snorkel guai? I les excursions per anar a veure altres illes, es poden organitzar amb ells a preus raonables?
Moltissimes gràcies!!

Hi we booked through your fabulous website and got your confirmation for the booking. We tried in vain several times to contact Mambetron Homestay by sms on these numbers +6282398495393 and +6281354091883 to reconfirm the booking and the boat transfer. Is it normal that they do not reply by sms?
Hi Kenneth –
Yes, it’s not uncommon to not receive replies to SMS and phone messages – that’s why we developed the SMS booking system.
The language barrier is part of the reason, but so is the erratic nature of telecommunications in Raja Ampat and also the fact that homestays use prepaid phones and often run out of credit which can’t be easily purchased out in the islands.
If you made your booking via the website booking system and requested a Waisai pickup someone from Mambetron will certainly be there to pick you up.
Yudas’ number as quoted above would be the best one to use if you want to continue trying.
Thanks for your prompt reply. So looking forward to visiting Raja Ampat.

I stayed at Mambetron’s bungalow no. 2 with a travelmate for only 2 nights last week, too bad my other mates got a non-ocean view bungalow.
I’d like to come back end of this year for a longer stay, I think. I love the sea view from the verandah of my room. It’s true the coral reefs and fish are really amazing if you try snorkeling from the front part of the homestay to the pier of Kri Eco Resort. And I enjoyed the meals too, they were decent.

Hello,
Can anyone help answer these questions?
1) Diving: we all have our OWD PADI certifications, but none of us are advanced divers. Do your dive boats go to reefs that are for non-advanced divers?
2) How long are your dive trips? Does the boat go out for the entire day, or does it go out for just one dive at a time?
Hi jk –
It would probably be best to call Mambetron to confirm the details, but yes – all homestays offer dives at less challenging sites. How long a homestay dive boat is out depends entirely on the number of dives and distance to sites, but boats certainly don’t go out all day, every day! Sometimes just for a single dive, sometimes more. It varies from homestay to homestay.

This website is so helpful, thank you so much for the amazing work that appears to go into it. I have a few Qs: when the description states that there is “good mobile signal” at Mambetron, does that mean that internet access through my iphone SIM card would be possible? Also, I believe your booking instruction states that there will be an email or SMS sent out to confirm 2 days? 7 days? prior to the booking. What should I do if I’m in a location (i.e. Diving live aboard) where receiving/sending email or SMS is impossible? Also if I want to take the Waisai ferry at 9am to make a ~2:30pm flight on Garuda airlines, would the Mambetron Homestay be able to drop me off at Waisai ferry to make it before the 9am departure time? How reliable is this? (i.e. if the home stay uses their boat for a snorkeling excursion). Thank you!!
Thanks Gina 🙂
As long as your SIM is (or has a roaming agreement with) Telkomsel you should be able to access the internet. Don’t expect a very reliable, fast or stable connection though!
Our system will respond to a booking request within 48 hours. Either with a confirmation of the requested booking or a reason why it wasn’t able to make one. If you receive a confirmation email, a booking has been confirmed for you and you don’t need to do anything else. 7 days prior to your arrival, the system will send you an email asking you to cancel if your plans have changed. If you won’t be coming you just need to click the cancel link in the email. Not much you can do if you’re unable to receive those…
Homestays will always be able to arrange transport for you to meet a ferry departure.
If I don’t click anything (due to likely instance that I can’t check email or SMS while bobbing about on a boat in the ocean) on that 7 days prior to arrival email, will the system maintain my booking? I imagine the booking getting cancelled on me because I may not be able to respond to an email or SMS at all. Thank you!!!
The system will keep your booking. The only reason you’d need to respond to that email is if you needed to cancel your booking.
One more question! How long does it take to get from Waisai to Kri/Mambetron home stay by long tail boat? Thank you, thank you!
Somewhere between 30 minutes and an hour, depending on sea conditions and number of passengers.
Thank you for answering all my Questions so patiently and promptly. One more: is it better to get a telkomsel SIM card at Jakarta airport or in Sorong? If Sorong, where is the best place to get it near the express ferry? Or Sorong airport?
You’re welcome Gina 🙂
We’ve never had to buy a SIM in Sorong, so can’t tell you where to get one, but they would be readily available in lots of places. There may even be a shop outside the Sorong airport that sells them. If you see a place in the Jakarta airport grab one there though – that way it’s one less thing to have to do in Sorong!

Hi,
I’m trying to booking a stay with Mambetron from Dec 17 – 21. I saw the text numbers listed here. Could you tell me how to text them from the US? I typed in the +6282398495393, and got error messages. Look like I need to dial some additional number for international? Thanks
The easiest way to make a booking is to use the form Frankie. It’s a free service with no charges to you or the homestay owner. Please read this.
If you want to contact them personally. you need to substitute the “+” with your phone carrier’s international access code. We can’t tell you what that would be.
Hi,
I did submit the request using the form. I guess it may take a while to get confirmation? Can I submit another booking request tomorrow at another location if I don’t get their response by tomorrow?
The issue is I’ll leave the US this Thursday and stay in Japan till 12/15 and will be in Sorong in 12/17.. so I’d like to get a homestay (in the North Kri area) booked/confirmed before i leave the US – is this possible? Thanks for your help!
There’s a 48 hour wait period to allow homestays time to respond. You can’t lodge another request for the same days until that 48 hours is up. (If the system can’t contact Mambetron you’ll receive an email letting you know and can try again then.)
There are plenty of homestays on Kri and you won’t have a problem getting a room there without a booking if you can’t secure one before arriving.
Hi,
If I couldn’t get a booking confirmed by the time I leave the US this Thursday 12/10.. How do I get a room in North Kris without booking?
I assume I’ll get the express ferry to Waisai island. Then from there, how do I get transportation to the Kri islands? and is there an agency or office on Waisai I can contact to get help to call some of the Homestays on Kri to book the room onsite?
Thanks
You can call/SMS the homestay of your choice once you’re there, or you can organise it through the Sorong Tourism Office.

During our 4 week long stay (October- November) in Raja Ampat we stayed 9 nights at Mambetron first and had to come back for another 10 days since we liked it so much.
1. Beautiful location right on the beach away from the buzz at Yenkoranu but still in walking distance (5-10 minutes) to go diving with Yenkoranu.
2. Nice, clean and spacious bungalow
3. Great host family – Pak Yudas, Tina and all the kids made us feel more than welcome and always spared time to sit down and chat with us.
4. Good and plenty food – rice, fish, chicken, egg dishes with vegetable and fruit as a desert.
5. Excursions and transport prices were very reasonable (a big plus compared to a lot of other homestays)
Not much English spoken there, so bring a dictionary!
Without a doubt we would stay there again.
Kai & Bettina

We stayed at Mambetron for three nights. Mr Yudas was a brilliant host and he has a lovely homestay. The food was always tasty – it is fish, rice and vegetables – but it’s the same everywhere in RA. Stayed in a few homestays but I’d say this is the best – views from your bungalow are lovely and it’s a nice size. If you’re a snorkeler rather than diver Kri is the best island. Currents on Gam too strong (Nov). Will definitely come back

We stayed for 6 days in November 2015, extending our stay by 3 days because we liked Mambeton so much. Yunas was a wonderful host who saw to our every need. The home reef was the best we encountered and Cape Kree provided the best snorkelling we have found anywhere. There was even Bintang available at Yenkoranu nearby.

WE loved the stay in Mambreton.
The owner speak little English but is enough to understand each others.
The island is amazing and Kri island is one of the best
The food is great and in good quantity
The bungalows are simple but in the beach and with the best snorkelling and diving that we ever saw.
Every time that we enter in the water we saw dozens of turtles and sharks

Can anyone please tell me if Mametron can organise boat trips/ transfers for 4 people (all quoted prices are for maximum 3)- we would like to stay in January with a family of 4?
Their boat only takes 3 Michelle, but they can certainly organise a pickup for more when needed. Can’t say for sure what the price would be though. Hopefully we’ll have an update from them soon!
Hey Michelle, during our stay Pak Yudas from Mambetron organized several bot trips with more than 4 people. So far he doesn`t own his own speedboat but was always able to make arrangements to borrow one from the extended family. His trips were very well priced (compared to other homestays) and very well organized. He is a great host – we stayed with hom for nearly 3 weeks!
Hey Bettina 🙂 I would like to ask you a question. You’ ve been in Mambetron for 3 weeks, as you wrote. Did you take all the cash to pay them for accommodation? Because we are going to Mambetron for one month in Feb. and so much money to take with us seems to be little bit uncomfortable 🙂 Thank you very much.

I visited Raja Ampat on the beginning of September (5 days). When I was looking for the homestay all of them were offering more or less the same: basic bungalow, food and transfer. It was very difficult to choose. What I was looking for it was clean place, nice family and good food. This is exactly what I found in Yudas place. It is extremely friendly family with excellent food: we had almost every day: fish, vegetables and fruits. The food was good in quantity and quality. This is a quiet place; Yudas is very helpful and nice person always giving his best to resolve any problem you have. He offers always fair prices for excursions by boat. The fact that our homestay was full (all bungalows) while all other homestays were empty in this low season is telling something. Bear in mind that Memberton is closely connected with Koranu Fyak and Yencoranu and they are perfectly organized to collect the people to go to Fam Island or other places where more people is needed to complete the trip. During 5 days I saw twice the mice around but following the golden role of “No food in the room” I was keeping them out of my room. Highly recommended place.

Excellent!!! we stayed 3 days/2 nights and we had really good time. Friendly, good food, good price, wonderful snorkeling in the beach in front of the homestay. Mr Yudas (the owner) kind and helpful and his mother the cook was great. In general a very very good experience, we thing could improve putting a sink into the toilet, and have a little more careful with cleaning, but otherwise, totally recommended!!!

My friend and I stayed for 4 nights in this homestay and we enjoyed every single moment that we had there. We love the bungalow that we stayed in, the food, the snorkeling and the view. Everything was just great. What we appreciate even more is the service given by Mr Yudas, the owner of the homestay. He is a very friendly and accommodating person. Really recommend this homestay!

We stayed for 3 nights and it was really amazing. As a diver I can say is the best place I’ve snorkeled ever, and just a few meters in front of the homestay (tortles, reefsharks, barracuda, and thousen of diferent coloured fishes. More than diving!
2 diving centers are a 2 minutes walking.
Hightly recomended.

Dear All,
How far is the distance between Mambetron Homestay and Yenkoranu Homestay? Is it possible to walk or shall take boat?
After reading reviews at this forum I prefer to stay at Mambetron and take diving trip at Yenkoranu. Many thanks.
Hi Hendricus –
It’s less than a kilometre from Mambetron to Yenkoranu. You can easily walk along the beach at low tide and there’s a path for when the tide is high.

Hello, please tell me, It is really then Mambetron Homestay will be close in october? I read this information on the forums.
Hi Valeriya – I have no idea what forums you saw that information on, but it’s not true. I have just spoken with Yudas at Mambetron to make sure and he says Mambetron is open in October. If they were going to close, we would let you know here!
Cheers

Stayed with pleasure here in feb.2015, nice bungalows, good matrasses…toilets at a seperate building at the back, simple but I got used to it…food OK..snorkeling in front is good and Yudas the owner can arrange boattrips as well, I was on my own..and occupied a double person bungalow, at times that didn’t feel right. I hope they will finish the new 1-person bungalows soon, might be nice for me the next time..
Greatings Mama Besar..

I stayed here for a few days. The management is wonderful as they took care of some special request for me. I was traveling solo and the homestay was fully booked. They offered a private room beside the kitchen for only 200.000 which was much appreciated. The also took care of my backpack while I went on a 4 day kayaking trip. Also, they make regular trips to Waisai, I was able to hitch a ride with them as I needed more cash and data on my phone. They went above all expectations… in fact I’ve come to the realization I may be high maintenance after reading this 😉 Kri island is great for walking up and down the beaches. Great for sunsets and best of all…. great for snorkeling. The best reef I saw throughout Raja Ampat runs the whole length of Kri island about 200m off shore. I saw turtles and sharks daily. I highly recommend Mambetron.

First of all, I would like to thank the creators of stayrajaampat.com for their effort since this website is such a helpful source.
We really enjoyed our two-weeks stay in the Mambetron Homestay in February and can highly recommend the place. The owner, Pak Yudas, is a very friendly and caring guy and his family is nice too. He only speaks a little English though. The price for a bungalow is currently the cheapest one on Kri Island and is very reasonable (knowing that everything in Raja Ampat is quite expensive as well as compared to the other bungalows).
Pak Yudas also offers the cheapest boat tours and is considering of starting with regular snorkeling tours (we had a great whole-day snorkeling trip to Manta’s Point, Arborek and Gam Island).
The food is good in terms of quality and quantity, after ten days it becomes a bit monotone though. If you are not satisfied with the food (or if you wish some sambal!) just tell them and they will try to meet your wishes.
Since there is no diving offered at this homestay and it only has three bungalows (so far, they are already building new ones), it is a very quiet and familiar place and not as social as Yenkoranu and Koranu Fyak. We really enjoyed the atmosphere at Mambetron and only met great and interesting people there.
The water for the mandi (bucket-shower) is salty (apparently, it is saltwater mixed with freshwater) and at the time we were there it smelled a bit like petrol. This is the only downside of this wonderful Homestay. We will definitively go back to this place.
Btw: Apparently, there was a recent change in the management of the homestay. Pak Hendra is no longer working there. So you should not longer try to contact him.

I wanted to thank all who made our holiday in January such a wonderful experience!
We stayed in three different home stays on Kri and had very good but also very different experiences. Bearing in mind that we had extremely low expectations (we had heard of boring or insufficient food/very basic washing facilities/rats in the bungalows) before we arrived, these were totally surpassed while we were on the island. We also brought time and with it flexibility. Time is what you need as there is no such thing as rigid dive schedules and each day was amazing but generally not what someone might have attempted to plan. We didn’t mind.
1.) MAMBETRON
pros: amazing food in quantity and quality, very clean and well built bungalows & shower room, nice stretch of beach slightly further west/away from the larger/busier home stays. Flexibile regarding eating times. They put the food out & cover it up so everyone turns up as they like and you have the choice of eating as a group or independently.
cons: little English but it really didn’t matter as the owner is super nice. No diving!
So we moved on to find diving and tranquility at:
2.) LUMBA LUMBA
pros: dream location, very secluded and no other home stay in sight. (We saw orcas cruising past the bay one morning during breakfast!), very personal experience as initially we were diving in very small groups (2 people & guide) so felt very looked after.
cons: credit cards weren’t accepted, the shower room was a bit grubby and it is the same room as the toilet. Two separate rooms would’ve been nicer.
We only moved on as we ran out of money and so were in search of a credit card machine and found:
3.) YENKORANU
pros: best dive equipment and your best bet to get as much diving & excursions done in a small amount of time. Partly because they are slightly better organised, have two (or 3?) boats but also because it is a larger home stay and the more people the more likely it is to fill a boat (and reduce prices) for excursions.
The getty is useful for snorkelling right at the reef without having to swim out to the drop off (c.20m). They take credit cards! ….and the en suite bathrooms…
cons: bigger and busier than the other home stays, food a bit boring
Thank you so much again to all the lovely people on the island!

Hello,
we are trying to get in touch with this Homestay already for 3 weeks.
We have texted to Yudas and later to Hendra, but still no answer.
Are there any other way (except SMS messages) to connect to the owners of this homestay?
Hi Laima – The only way to contact Mambetron are on the phone numbers given – all we can suggest is to keep trying. The only alternative to SMS is to try calling. It’s actually quite likely you could get accommodation there without a booking. It’s quite easy to get from Waisai to Yenkoranu or Koranu Fyak and Mambetron’s just short walk up the beach from them.

Propably best homestay at this side of Raja Ampat. We stayed here for few nights. If something is not like you want it just tell Yudas and he will try to help you solve the problem. We complain about the food once and then had a lot of good food. Also we did ( 4 persons) a full day trip around Gam Island and it was great! Bungalows are big with nice verandas, Highly recommended!!!!!

I would really like to stay at this homestay next week – does anybody have a contact number?
Hi La –
I’ve just added a contact number for Hendra to the contacts for Mambetron, but it is currently reporting as switched off or out of range.
There seems to be some serious disruption to the network in Raja Ampat at the moment though – lots of people have reported difficulties making contact in the past few weeks. Not just for Mambetron. I’ve also been told by homestay owners that there have been big delays in receiving SMS messages.
All we can say is keep trying!

I stayed here last week, call Yudas 0823 9849 5393 ( very little english speak bahasa). Or try to organise transfer to his place and then just wait until he commes. If the is nobody at homestay as his neighbors they will help you. cheers
Thanks for the update Filip – it’s much appreciated! (The number we were given for Yudas had one incorrect digit. Fixed now.)

This is a new, really nice homestay: the huts were well built last year, the house reef is excellent, the family is genuinely friendly and tries to please the guests although little English is spoken.
Judas took me to the ferry and carried all my heavy luggage upstairs before departing.
The service is dependable , the price fair.
I want to return to this homestay.

Mambetron is new homestay, and located between Koranu Fyak and Mambrasar Guesthouse. Hendra is originally from West Java – Bandung and he run this home stay. I was stay in Mambrasar and every time I walk to Koranu Fyak or Yenkoranu always pass Mabetron and meet Hendra. This homestay looks nice and anyone who unable to stay at Koranu Fyak (this homestay always fully book) I will recommend take this place to enjoy Kri with the coral reef just a door step from your room.
