Details

Lalosi Homestay lies on the southern shore of Pulau Arborek.

Six over water bungalows are available. The bungalows have locking doors, glass windows and raised beds. Sheets, pillows, bolsters and mosquito nets are provided.

Bungalow verandahs have panoramic ocean views and are furnished with a table, chairs and a hammock.

Guests share a four-room bathroom building on land. Two rooms have western-style toilets, and two have bucket bathing and showers.

Meals are served in Lalosi’s dining room. Drinking water, tea and coffee are always freely available there for guests.

Electricity is a mix of village supply and generator, and is usually available 24 hours a day. Telkomsel’s Arborek tower provides a strong 4G signal.

Lalosi Homestay is a two minute walk from Arborek village where basic supplies and cold soft drink can be purchased, but please take any inorganic waste like plastic, dead batteries etc away with you when you leave. There is no safe way of disposing of this kind of trash in Raja Ampat without causing pollution and contributing to the growing rubbish problem in the islands.

Basic English is spoken at Lalosi, so bringing a phrasebook or translation app will help enrich conversation if you don’t have any Bahasa Indonesia.

Activities

Lalosi Homestay is situated on the edge of Arborek village, which has a jetty famous for its diving and snorkelling sights. Cultural performances are often staged in the village for guests of visiting liveaboard and cruise boats and local crafts are made for sale there.

Arborek is a pretty village and offers plenty of opportunity for social interaction. Arborek Island is quite small and can easily be fully explored in a couple of hours.

Lalosi can provide any kind of sightseeing and snorkelling tour you want to do.

Diving and snorkelling

Diving is available at Lalosi Homestay in conjunction with Arborek Dive Shop. Arborek is the closest you can stay to the famed attractions of Manta Point and Manta Sandy and the island is also handy to Piaynemo and the Pam (Fam) Islands for those wanting to explore further afield.

The beach at Lalosi gives way to weedy shallows and then coral as you move away from the shore. Good snorkelling can be had at the door, but the village jetty is where the real action is.

Snorkelling and sightseeing trips

Lalosi Homestay can provide trips to wherever you want to go, including the remote Wayag and Sayang in northern Raja Ampat.

  • Worst homestay, don’t speak English, food very very bad, should be closed! Too poor to manage an homestay

  • We stood for 10 nights at Lalosi. From the start, I must say that this accommodation is neither great, nor terrible compared to others on the island, it’s just somewhat below average.
I have read the previous comments by other guests, about Marlon overbooking the huts, so we were not surprised when we arrived that he apologized that “a guest have decided to stay one night longer so he have to put us in nearby hut for a night”. The nearby hut was kind of similar, so no biggie, it was only the hassle of moving. I still wonder why we were not offered one of the two west facing bungalows that stayed unoccupied for the whole duration and that looked fresher, but, in hindsight, it was better to have an east facing one, as they are way cooler in the afternoon.
    Now, for the good things:
    – The facilities are shared by fewer people so you don’t need to queue at the bathroom.
    – You can communicate with the ladies in the kitchen via google translate and they are responsive (we have asked to have our lunch packed to go and to have our sheets changed).
    The not so good things:
    – The food is repetitive and poor (a combination of rice, eggs, bananas, fried morning glory and the occasional fried eggplant and overcooked fish.
    – There is always some commotion very early in the morning – people coming, leaving, boat engines revving and roosters singing starting 4AM.
    – They are constantly burning piles of trash on the beach, even during the night or very early in the morning, and the huts are always downwind. The smoke is intoxicating.
    – Cockroaches invade the huts at dusk. We found out that leaving the light on somewhat helps.
    – The bins in the toilet are seldom emptied, you need to do it yourself. Also, you need to start buying you own toilet paper from a nearby shop at certain point during your stay.
Fun fact: one week after we left, Marlon texted me that we left with the terrace door key, although we never closed that door, leave alone locking it.

  • We had a horrible 1 night stay here and definitely cannot recommend this homestay for anyone!

We had originally booked for 2 nights through Stay Raja Ampat platform but ended up requesting a bungalow 1 night earlier as our plans changed. We confirmed this additional 1 night stay directly with the owner Marlon who then contacted us just 1 day before our arrival and told us that our 1st night stay was cancelled due to another guest staying longer. We told him that it was unacceptable for him to cancel like this and that we would arrive the next day as planned. When we arrived they took some time to somehow clear a bungalow for us and we managed to settle in.

Our bungalow was the only one without a lock of any kind or any lines to hang our clothes drying. When we asked for these (very simple) things the owner just acted very weirdly and kept walking away when we were trying to talk to him. First, he had totally ignored us even though he was around. Everything had to be discussed via translator app as he didn’t speak any English.

Late at night he started sending us messages where he called us ‘liars’ and ‘bad people’ and that we should get out of his homestay the next day. We definitely didn’t want to stay there any longer than what was necessary so we went to look for another homestay and luckily got a refund from Stay Raja Ampat.

It is exactly this kind of accommodation providers who give a very bad reputation to local homestays. They are not trained to be in this business and don’t know how to treat customers.

The bungalows themselves were nice but were missing bits and pieces of just the basic things and it seemed like this owner just had no idea of the importance of providing these nor how to treat paying customers.

Lots of homestays to choose from in Arborek so no need to go here and to be harassed!

    A l’arrivée..2 bungalows

  • They were responsive and reasonably priced for boat transfers. If you get one of the farthest out over water bungalows then the views are great, if you don’t then you are mostly looking into other people’s bedrooms.

Staff was friendly, if usually not actually able to be helpful.

The food was terrible. Of five homestay experiences in Raja Ampat this was easily the worst. Not only was the food not very good, there was not enough of it. Protein was especially lacking, for 6 adults a half an egg each for dinner is not adequate. Even though you are in the village and friends in neighboring homestays had regular fish and chicken, these guys claimed to not be able to get any over 3 days.

Electricity from 6pm-6am and great cell service.

We were happy to leave after three nights, and would not stay here again.

  • I spent 2 nights at Lalosi Homestay and I loved it !
Next to the homestay, there is a jetty where you can find a beautiful reef and lots of fish ! Great for snorkeling. Also, you can reach Arborek Dive Shop, 5 minutes crossing the island.
I booked an overwater bungalow and the view was amazing ! There is a terrace where you can sit on a long chair or rest in the hammock. The bathroom and shower were good too, it was quite new and clean.
    The food was really good.
The staff is so nice, they made everything for me so I can enjoy my stay with them.
I recommend 100% to stay in Lalosi Homestay !

  • I stayed with a friend at Lalosi homestay in October 2024 for 3 nights. The bathrooms seemed to be very new. It has a bucket toilet. In the shower you can choose between a western shower and the bucket shower – but as soon as the tank for the western shower is empty you may use the bucket shower. As the bathrooms were very clean we even preferred the bucket option.
We really liked the food and the owner. Our room was quite easy but clean, we even got towels. It’s a beautiful place to stay which we highly recommend to everyone visiting Arborek!

  • It’s a nice quiet place, but Stayrajaampat should make it clear that there are NO ensuite (private) bathrooms: they were recently dismantled because of cockroaches and replaced with “normal” shared bathrooms on land. The food is good, the hosts friendly (but no English: use the translator), close to the pier and dive shop – so it’s quite basic but as nice as expected. Thank you for this experience and some relaxing days after traveling mainland Papua. 🙂

Danke an unsere Gastfamilie, macht weiter so!

  • We stayed January 2017 for 14 days at Lalosi. Marlon is wonderful and all of the staff helping him are wonderful. Raja is a different world, beautiful, raw, lots of sights to see with snorkeling and scuba diving. Life is slow here which is one reason we chose this place. We stayed in the over water bungalow and had no issues if you go with in mind that its not a concrete jungle. Food was basic and they work with what they have. It was good considering the location as there are not grocery stores on the island. We look forward to returning January 6th!!! Can’t wait to see you Marlon!

  • Accommodation was very basic, which was to be expected and is OK. Food quality was down straight BAD, and in little quantity. It sometimes felt as if we were eating leftovers: cold, dry fish with rice, 2 boiled eggs with ketchup. Breakfast was a joke.
The beach in front of the homestay is fine, but full of dead corals making it difficult to walk in the water/swim.
    Globally disappointing and overpriced.

    • Thanks for the comment which is great for us, our owner has already conveyed to the officer’s Cook, does not seem to respond to what we pass, the less food issue, we already fix your comments, we’ve already fix your comments, to the rocky beaches of dead coral is sharp and we’ve been clean Thanks for your comments

  • We spent 6 nights at Lalosi out of our 15 day in Raja Ampat. We had the homestay to ourselves as there were no other guests around. Arborek is a little island paradise where we first thought to stay 2 nights and ended up staying for 6 nights. Snorkeling on the island is just outstanding , as pretty much anywhere in Raja Ampat. The homestay is very nice and has good common area to relax at the beach. The big negative point was food, as in every homestay in Raja Ampat the food is included ( no restaurants on the islands ) , and food was very poor at Lalosi homestay. Out of our 6 nights in a fish paradise we had 4 full days fed with eggs (plain omellete mid-day and dinner) and for our last breakfast we were served chocolate cookies (yes like a pack of local oreo).

  • We stayed on Arborek island at Lalosei homestay for 6 nights. As most previous reviews have noted the island is delightful to stay on. The streets are clean by indonesian standards, the people are friendly, the snorkelling around the jetties is excellent. The dive shop hosts are welcoming and provide a great service to visiting divers. Manta dive sites are right on the doorstep of this island. We also visited piyanemo and yebben islands, a great day out.
The homestay has a great location on the beach, we had our last 2 nights in the over water hut, this was a real bonus, get this hur if you can. The huts are basic, ie mattress on floor, a small table and a mosquito net, thats all..power is on from 6pm to midnight for lights and recharge gadgets….The food is basic, but we enjoyed it, Always some vegetables and rice and mostly some fish with the meal, tea and coffee always available. The rooms have no security, if you have lots of cash, credit cards not accepted on the island think
about how to keep it safe when you are both snorkelling, etc…staying on the island is a fantastic experience, Raja Ampat is amazing, the prices charged for the services provided, ie boat from Wasai to Arborek and accomodation are hard to justify, but there is little alternative, if you want to visit RA you have to payup and enjoy the adventure, good luck…

    • Thanks for taking the time to write a review Dave 🙂

Just a note about cash while out in boats: Depends on what individuals are comfortable with of course, but we’ve always felt that the safest place is with us in the boat. We’ve never had a problem, whether leaving it in unlocked rooms or taking it with us and leaving it in the boat while we’re in the water.

      • you stay at lalosi homestay does not need to carry cash anymore, you can simply take your ATM card, jikan you feel less comfortable with your Cash, lalosi homestay payment has changed already use EDC terimaksih your comments are nice and according to my comments are changing our services become better

    • our food already fix it, officer Cook also we’ve been dressing, cuisine with a berbedah menuh, hygiene homestay we’ve oerbaiki and always clean every day, you come and stay at lalosi do not need to bring the money you simply bring the case AT, payment in homestay using EDC

  • Lalosi, Arborek

We – a family of five, age 8-73 – spent a few days here in July 2014.

The snorkelling around the jetty is the best so far in Raja Ampat (or elsewhere, to our experience around Asia). The number of schooling fish is mind-blowing, and the diversity is amazing. We saw walking sharks, scorpion fish, numbers of lion fish and leaf fish among all other interesting stuff. Make sure to spend some time here, and you will be rewarded.

On Arborek you live close to the village, which was very nice for a change. You can buy supplies. Lalosi is nice and well kept. Food was good, and we got bananas, which was rare in other places.

This is the place we stayed the shortest time, therefore we don’t have as much to say as about the other places we visited (Kordiris, Piyanemo, Nudibranch and Yenkoranu).

  • a very nice place. the bungalows are nice but very basic. the matress is on the floor and no chair and table in my bungalow. but a good landscape, seats on the beach, nice location
but the food is a SHAME !!!! during one week, two meals without fish or eggs. only rice and vegetables. once, half an egg!!! when there is fish, very small portions. and two or three fried bananas for the breakfast. i complained twice, ( i speak indonesian) but they are enable to change
it could be a very nice place, 5 stars, if the food is okay. its very expensive for the comfort and the food

  • We stayed three night at Lalosi Homestay, in the water bungalow.
The homestay was super quiet, we were the only guests. Food was the best we’ve had in Raja Ampat, it was plenty, and different every day. The spots for mantas are very close, (10-15 minutes) so if you’re into swimming with them, this would be the perfect place to to try.
Arborek is a charming, beautiful island, full of kids. Very clean, with no trash lying around, which is unfortunately isn’t a given around these parts of the world.
Snorkelling or diving around the jetty excellent, and there are two dive centers on the island.
Also, the shops in the village sell cold beer, which is very rare.

  • We had a wonderful time for 7days in Lalosi. Spent most of our time in the jetty watching (snorkeling) an enourmos sea-life aquarium, their incredibly stunning corals and those fishes were outstanding, they were massive, and some species we only saw during our deep dive in another island. Plus the sunset, it’s a really breathtaking moment.
The fact that there was a little village there, we really got to know their cultural life. It’s just amazing.
We went for a couple of excursion, it was a little rough because we got caught in a stormy rainy weather, other than that everything was just amazing there.
The food was great. Plenty of veggies, unfortunatelly a little lack of fishes (I know! They had a village competition at that time so noone went fishing!).
Would love to come back again someday.

  • We stayed at Lalosi for one night only but we wish to stay longer. We got the bungalow facing the beach and it was so great to have the ocean view in front of your room. The room is clean and adequate and spacious enough (compared to other homestays there in Arborek). As we were the only guests at that time, the host tried his best to serve us. Pak Ulis (the owner) is very helpful. The bungalows are very picturesque and we loved chilling by the chairs in front of the bungalows.

We passed by some other homestays in Arborek and found that Lalosi was much better in terms of room space. We would love to go back to Lalosi when we have the chance to visit Arborek again next time.

  • We enjoyed three nights at the pretty and well-kept Lalosi homestay in july-14 and loved being on this small island-village, which can give you some more flavours than “only” snorkeling and enjoying the reefs. Strolling up and down the “streets” of the village in the afternoon or dawn, doing some extra-shopping, including semi-cold Bintang beer, contributed to our liking. Snorkeling was great, but during our time there it was quite windy on the Lalosi-side so we did most of the snorkeling on the jetty on the opposite side.
The nice owners have almost no english so communication is a bit hard; though we had no problems with it. We did´t try any of their excursion-offers so we can´t say anything about prices. We liked the food; the variation now offered compared to the rest of the places we visited (Kordiris, Yenkoranu, Nudibranch and Piaynemo) consisted in the teriyaki-style sauce that accompanied the fish:) The breakfast was also slightly better; not only a sweet spongy cake, more often fried bananas. Toilet and dip mandi bathroom was well kept and clean. Beware of rats – don´t keep any snacks inside unless you have safe cans/jars! We learnt the hard way…: )

  • We stayed here for 4 days recently with our 7 years old son and we had a great time ! Lalosi has a beautiful setting of lush garden, clean bathroom (mandi style ) and toilet in western style.

The food was kind of boring , so we decided to buy our own fresh fish from a local fisherman and we BBQ on the beach ( survivor style) and it was quite yummy!

The snorkeling under the main jetty ( entrance to arborek ) was great, the soft corals were so beautiful!
The plus about this island beside clean and cute, that you can get treats and cold beer at the small stores.

Our son had the best time with the local kids , they were so sweet!

  • I stayed 4 days in April 2014. I really liked Arborek Island and it’s beautiful village which is very clean and has trashbins on the streets. It looks like a real role model for the area.
The Lalosi Homestay has a beautiful setting, directly on the beach. The Bungalows are basic but everything is made from wood and bamboo, quite nicely.
The drawbackfrom my point of view is that it is highly overpriced, especially in terms of food quality. During my stay, food was quite poor (even for Raja4 standards) and portions were small. Often we were given only one egg, rice and a small portion of vegetable for lunch or dinner. This was during a period where the place was fully booked (8 persons) and definitely a lot of revenue was gained by the owners (8 x 350.000 Rp) .
In addition, the prices for tours to the closeby Manta snorkelling sites were ridiculously high and we never accepted them and skipped the tours.
So as my comment, the owner should think about providing quality and customer needs (especially regarding food) for the high price he is calling and definitely should re-calculate the tour and transport prices – otherwise people will use other places, for sure.
