Details
Korbekwan Homestay has two private, over-water bungalows in front of an extensive mangrove forest. The bungalows have large enclosed verandahs with table and chair settings and panoramic ocean views.
Each bungalow sleeps two people on raised beds. Mosquito nets are provided.
Meals are served in Korbekwan Homestay’s over water dining room. Drinking water, and tea and coffee making supplies are always freely available there.
All guests share a bathroom building that has a western style toilet.
A phone signal is usually available from the Arborek tower, and a data connection is sometimes supported. Lighting and power is supplied from a generator which runs from sunset to midnight.
The nearest shops for supplies are at Kampung Kapisawar which is ten minutes away by 15HP longboat when seas are calm. If conditions are rough the journey can take up to 30 minutes. Note that only basic supplies are available, so it’s best to pack in anything you can’t live without!
As everywhere in the Raja Ampat islands, there is no safe waste disposal available at Korbekwan, so unless you don’t care about the trashing of paradise, you will need to take all your inorganic waste away with you when you leave.
Transport / Getting there
Korbekwan’s longboat is used for Waisai transfers. The transfer cost is IDR 1,300,000 each way, which can be shared by a maximum of 4 passengers.
Activities
Fantastic snorkeling and jungle exploration opportunities! Korbekwan means “long stretch of mangroves” and the homestay is situated amid extensive blue water mangroves on the western end of Gam Island. Korbekwan is built beside a sand bottomed bay of seagrass, which is surrounded by mangroves and opens onto a rich and healthy coral reef.
The three marine ecosystems of the area mean that sealife is rich and varied. The reef is home to giant clams and drops to deep water a stone's throw from the end of Korbekwan's jetty. The mangroves are home to blue spotted rays, nudibranchs, hosts of juvenile fish and a species of Cassiopea jellyfish that congregate upside down on the bottom of the lagoon, looking like some strange anemone garden. The seagrass meadow in the bay is patrolled by blacktip sharks and is occasionally visited by dugongs.
When the plankton is blooming in Gam Bay, mantas can be seen surface feeding at the front of the homestay and hunting dolphins often cruise the edge of the reef dropoff.
The forest behind the homestay is home an ancient mango tree, a banana plantation, and to eclectus parrots, eagles, hornbills, coucous, crowned pigeons and wild pigs.

I stayed at five different homestays in Raja Ampat, and this was my favorite. The house reef was easily the best. It is very quiet and secluded. The view over the ocean is spectacular. The family was so friendly and eager to make sure we had a good time.
The food was more simple than some of the other places, but it tasted great and was well-seasoned. Dinner consisted of three dishes: rice, vegetables, and fish. The family went out to the forest to gather the vegetables (gedi) to cook for dinner, and they let us join. The older brother spent all afternoon spear fishing to get the fish for dinner. You would pay an arm and a leg for this sort of fresh and natural food back in Canada, where I’m from.
If you’re looking for a luxury resort, skip this place. But if you’re looking for a truly incredible experience connecting with nature and a local family, this place can’t be beat.

Excellent homestay with an incredible house reef, great food and Donald was a great host! I would definitely recommend Korbekwan.

If you like being in isolated beauty, this place is amazing. Not much walking available but reef for 100’s of metres in both directions. The family is awesome though English is hardly spoken. We enjoyed every minute!

We spent 5 days in Korbekwan in April, and overall impression is so so.. On one hand, the house and the place itself is better then we expected – room is clean, no insects, quite comfortable matrass, the view is outstanding, and by the way the toilet is much better then on pictures, probably they rebuilt it. Also the housereef is really great for snorkeling.
On the other hand – we were starving all the time. I was counting hours till they give us next food – to get rice or noodles. Fish was a seldom guest on the table. First we thought it’s just the way it is in Raja Ampat, but after our second homestay in Kri we could compare – and it’s only the Korbekwan problem.
Excursions also might have been longer, for example Piaynemo tour is stated as all day tour, but Daniel actually spent 3 hours on it (2.5 hours on the road, 30 min in Piaynemo itself). 3 millions for 30 min there seemed too much. By the way, the day before the trip he said 3 millions, after the trip he said the petrol price grew and it’s 4 millions now, but we didn’t agree, the way of cheating tourists like this didn’t feel nice. The other day we agreed to go for Gum Bay, but he left to Waisai in the morning and didn’t show up.
Summerazing, i would suggest tourists to visit Gam island, it’s really great nature and snorkleng sites, but probably choose some other homestay. Or bring lots of food with you.

We lived in Korberkwan Homestay 10 days in the March 2019. The sea is very good, the coral reef is near, living corals …
It would seem that everything is there…
But… VERY little food.
For 10 days we ate one simple rice with fish soup / or salad / or a small piece of fish. NO extra food!
And after swimming in the sea really wanted to eat.
We were often are hungry. But, very few cookies, almost no fried bananas. No fruits. Only tea, sugar and coffee.
Brekfast: for 3 small pieces of the cakes.
Lunch: white dry rice and fish heads + cups tea
Dinner: white dry rice and salad + cups tea.
For 5 people we were given 1 thermos of hot water.
This is a strong Papuan family. They think that they raised children on simple rice, and then it will be good for tourists.
you won’t get fat, as Alfred’s mother said.
We have been in many families, but nowhere have we been fed so!
If you want to come to this family – bring food with you !!!
Thank you very much,Pavel

We spent a nice 4 days at Korbekwan Homestay. Daniel, Alfred, and the rest of the family made sure we could visit many different places, the house reef was beautiful, and kayaking around the mangroves was unforgettable.
The only downside was that the food was neither plentiful nor very good when we were here, as compared to other homestays we experienced. It seemed like the family may have been running low on supplies when we visited.
Korbekwan is located in an amazing and beautiful place, we definitely recommend it for snorkeling and exploring southern Gam.
Thank you very much,james

Beautiful, amazing, surreal. This homestay is incredible and I can’t recommend it highly enough ! Daniel and his family are extremely welcoming and accommodating. The food is delicious and the surroundings are like nothing I have ever experienced. Take some good books and enjoy the hammock and peace.

thank you

Attention coral nerds! This homestay has an incredible house reef with extraordinarily healthy coral but be sure to swim to the right along the mangroves. I saw a sea snake swimming up to breathe in the mangrove roots, a walking shark, large schools of big, curious mangrove red snappers, and probably the best coral of any place I’ve been in Raja Ampat. And this is my 5th time in the islands. Lots of places to take the longboat to for snorkeling and be sure to negotiate the price — some of the listed prices seemed a bit too high to me and it paid to discuss them. I plan to come back next year to these sweet over-the-water bungalows…
Thank you, Pak Daniel and Alfian! 🙂

I stayed in Korbekwan for three nights.
I had good time here: snorkeling, kayak, fishing, trip to yeben Island.
Alfian very friendly and funny to go with him to fish and get coconuts.
I reccomend this homestay for people who like total nature and isolation.
