Details
Kayafyof Homestay is located on Pulau Arborek’s southern shore, near the island’s coral-rich eastern end. Seven over-water private bungalows, and three over-water special bungalows are available.
Bungalows have enclosed verandahs with tables, chairs and a hammock. In June 2023, only one bungalow bedroom had a raised bed. All the others have mattresses on the floor. All bedding includes sheets, pillows, bolsters and mosquito nets, and bedrooms are fitted with light switches and power outlets.
The over-water special bungalows are larger, with extensive wood panelling, a large glazed window and secure, padlocked doors. A premium is charged for the over-water special bungalows.
Meals are served in a dining shelter on land. Tea, coffee and drinking water are freely available to guests there. On the beach near the dining shelter are a few wooden recliners for lazing in the sun. (Be careful you don’t get burned though!) A large wooden table and bench seating is also available in the shade of beachside trees.
All guests share Kayafyof’s 7-room bathroom building. Western style toilets and bucket bathing are provided.
Electricity is from village supply and is usually available at all times except from 0700 to about 1000. Telkomsel’s Arborek tower provides a strong 4G signal.
Supplies (including cold drinks) are available in Arborek village, which is a five minute walk from the peaceful seclusion of the island’s west end. Please do take all your inorganic trash away with you, as there is no safe waste disposal or recycling available in Raja Ampat and disposing of it on the island will only contribute to the trashing of paradise.
Only a little English is spoken at Kyafyof Homestay, so if you don’t have any Bahasa Indonesia, bringing a phrasebook would be a good idea. You’ll always be able to find an English speaker in the village to help out if need be.
Transport / Getting there
Waisai transfer cost depends on number of passengers and sea conditions.
In windy weather, the speedboat will be used for comfort and safety.
Longboat: IDR 1,300,000 each way. 4 passengers max.
Speedboat: IDR 2,500,000 each way. 10 passengers max.

Activities
Arborek is the perfect location to combine diving, snorkelling and cultural interaction. Being an officially designated "Tourism Village", cultural performances are often staged at Arborek for visiting guests.
Diving
Diving is available at Kyafyof Homestay in association with the nearby Arborek Dive Shop. Arborek Dive Shop also provides a credit card payment facility for Kayafyof. See the Arborek Dive Shop page for more information.
Snorkelling and sightseeing
Kayafyof's long jetty makes it easy to reach the reef dropoff for snorkelling. There's excellent snorkelling to be had beneath the nearby Arborek village jetty and over the reefs and sandbanks at the eastern end of the island. The famed Manta snorkelling and dive sites are nearby too. Kyafyof Homestay can organise tours to any of the Dampier Strait attractions you want to visit. A small selection of the possibilities is listed in the table below. Costs are in Indonesian Rupiah and are shared by trip participants.

I stayed at Kayafyof Homestay for 2 nights and 3 days, and it was an amazing experience. The location is almost perfect for excursions to places like Manta Ridge, Manta Point, and Citrus Reef. And don’t miss the snorkeling right off the homestay’s jetty—it’s absolutely incredible.
During my stay, I met Bani, a truly great person who was always there to help whenever I needed anything. He’s also super easy to talk to, and I really enjoyed our conversations.
The food was consistently very good, with generous portions every time. The bathrooms were clean and fully functional, which made the stay even more comfortable.
A big thank you to Bani, his family, and everyone at Kayafyof Homestay for making my stay so special.
From Jambo ❤️
Come! Trust us. Just come here!
Great views east & west, wonderful & easy snorkelling off the jetty next to bungalow, delicious (and enough) food, friendly & professional hosts & staff (always going the extra mile to serve/please you), etc. …
What else is needed?
Make sure to stop at Arborek and to stay at Kayafyof homestay! (we’ve seen many others … so we know what were talking about …)
We absolutly loved this homestay. The view was amazing – both sunrise and sunset over the water. Beautiful reef just at the end of the jetty. We snorkled a lot and even saw a manta pass right under us. We also went on a succesful boat trip to snorkle with them. I will never forget…
Even from the jetty we saw many interesting animals: seasnake, walking shark, sting rays, blacktip sharks and so on.
We are a family of four and slept in two huts over water. The huts are small but fine (would like better mattresses and pillows 😉 ). There is a fan which was very helpful at night.
What we also really liked about this place was the great varying food and the manager Bani who did everything he could to make our stay great. Thank you so much <3
I would really recomend this homestay if you are going to Arborek.

+ Great jetty and house reef. You can see a lot without leaving the homestay. But jetty on the other side of the island (3 min) is also nice
+ Comfortable mattress
+ Buni is very engaged and helpful
+ Nice surroundings and village. We even saw Papuan wedding!
+ Really good prices for trips comparing to other homestays
– Food is tasty but not enough. Portions were definitely too small for adults.
– Breakfast are sometimes only fruit. Also, if you have dietary restriction it won’t be accommodated
– Bathrooms could be cleaner

Super séjour a Kayafyof.

I really don’t get the bad reviews about this homestay. It was the best homestay we stayed at in Raja Ampat out of six others. The snorkeling at the homestay’s jetty was breathtaking—the best on the whole island. The rooms were spacious and clean. It’s true that it is nothing luxurious (but you have to know where you are: you can’t find Western luxuries in any homestay in RA). The food was similar to other homestays. Again, you have to remember you are in Papua. If you have allergies or are a picky eater, Raja Ampat is not the place for you, as it is difficult to find alternatives unless you are willing to pay for a resort (and even there, it can be difficult). The only downside we found was the showers, which had no showerheads but only a bucket. But aside from that, we really enjoyed the views here—wandering around Arborek, grabbing a beer in the hammocks, and, most of all, snorkeling off the jetty of this homestay.

The island is very nice, snorkeling too, but we didn’t really enjoy the homestay. The food wasn’t really enough, we had to negotiate many mornings to have something other than 2 bananas for two people. And during the rains it rained on our bed.

We stayed here for 6 nights. The overwater bungalow was great and the snorkelling from the pier was excellent. We booked diving at Arborek Dive Shop, which was amazing. The location of Kayafyof was ideal, on the quieter side of the island, but only a short walk from the main pier. Really good phone signal with a mast on the island. Food was tasty but not much variety, although this is to be expected in Raja Ampat, where the supplies are limited.

Very nice place, location of bungalows over the water are amazing and the house reef is the best of the island, even better than the public jetty of arborek.
The only improving point is the food, specially breakfast wich were cakes / fried bananas.

We enjoyed our 1 week stay in the over-water bungalow. The housereef is the best on the island and the acess is really easy thank to the jetty.
Food here was simple but really good. We asked for vegetarian version and we always have enough options.
Bani is a really helpful manager, who also helped us organising trips and even save them from the storm.
The only minus is, the over-water bungalow is a bit exposed. So it’s really loud from wind when it’s storming outside. Except from that it’s beautiful scenery 🙂
We will come back

Lovely homestay, Barney and his family made us feel welcome and the house reef on the end of the Jetty is arguably the best snorkelling spot on the whole island – absolutely beautiful with lots of healthy coral and fish. We even saw turtles, cuttlefish and sharks off the end of the jetty.
Facilities are reasonable. It looks like they are developing new toilets and cleaning areas which is exciting. The bungalow was simple but well laid out and had a fan and hammock. The sealife underneath the Bungalows is something to behold – absolutely stunning and flourishing – waking up to the Trevally feeding underneath the bungalow and then to watch them is special!
Food was plentiful and tasty also.

Thank you Bani for this amazing stay in Arborek !!! Our favorite place in Raja Ampat.
– very good food
– friendly locals, we hope they finished the ukulele
– the bungalow are fantastic, as much as the reef next to the homestay
– feel like bora bora !
Thank you so much 💖

We spent the last 2 nights of our stay in Raja Ampat at Kayafyof.
The environment is very nice, with a great sunset view, clear water, and beautiful snorkel from the jetty. However this is the only snorkelling possibility on Arborek: the island activities and tours are organized around diving only, so if you want to snorkel only and not dive, I would not recommend going to Arborek. It was unclear regarding snorkeling trips unlike on other islands, so it seems that you won’t get to go to other islands from here unless you dive.
The food was good and abundant, with delicious eggplants in brown sauce and fried bananas. They even made tempeh especially for a vegetarian girl.
The owner was very welcoming, caring and flexible, special thanks to him and his family! We really felt welcomed.
Downsides were the mattress on the floor that was not comfortable, the size of the bungalow (quite small), and the cleanliness of the shower and bathroom (but it seemed they were renovating them).
Overall we had a very nice stay!

Good place! I would stay here again! House reef is the best! And the dock is snorkeler friendly.
There are mantas close by. Not sure exactly what’s going on, but there are 2 young gov’t employees that check on the mantas 3 times per day. I think they feed them.
But I got to snorkel with those mantas, what an experience! I saw two other guests swim with the mantas right off the dock!
There are 2 dive shops, book early!
The bathrooms could use some attention.

Great snorkeling. Nice dining room, over the water so the sandflies don’t dine on us while we eat.

We stayed at Kayafyof at Bani from 22.-25.1.25. In total we were 6 weeks on 6 different islands and 9 different accommodations. We had booked a large special private bungalow, which was given to other guests who spontaneously arrived two days before us and stayed until we left. So more money for them but not nice for us. We agreed to pay the difference for our next trip to Fam Island. The normal overwater bungalow was small but sufficient for two. And no Moskitos. The small terrace was facing the sun so we could only use it from afternoon or when it was cloudy. The food was varied and very good. During meal times we were between 8-16 people and there was always enough. The toilets and bucket showers ok. From Kayafyof Jetty it was easy to come in and out to the water. We let ourselves be drifted around the island with the current in two days. No matter in which direction, it was everywhere underwater rich in corals in different colors. The biodiversity also impressed us. Mantas, turtles and even a carpet shark and much more. In the evening walking sharks and reef sharks under the bungalow. Bani was always to be found and told us a lot about Arborek. He was really friendly. He took good care of everything together with his family and we would stay there again at any time. Also because we have rarely seen such a great underwater world. Many thanks to Bani and his family.

We booked on stayrajampat but it was overbooked on our arrival. There seem to be more units than listed on the website. We were offered a beach bungalow next door but as we wanted to stay overwater to avoid mosquitos, Bani helped us coordinate a move to another homestay on the island.
We did come back to snorkel and the house reef is great, but the bathroom is a messy situation, likely due to the busy-ness of the homestay while we were on Arborek.
We were charged 1.3million for a boat transfer for 4 from Waisai (more than listed on this site, and more than nearby homestays). Electricity on Arborek was on from 7pm to 7am daily.

We spent several days in this homestay and we really enjoyed the area with all this clear water all around, wonderful sunset and an amazing snorkelling spot at the Jetee. Amazing place.
However we found the mattress not very confortable and the mosquito net rotten. Also the food was not very good and very samey everyday… (same dry fish and same eggplant with brown sauce)
To finish with a very positive point, Bani the manager was a great guy ! Very friendly and available for us, really appreciated that.
We still recommand that place and this unforgettable island

The Homestay is really nice and the location is absolutely gorgeous ! I’ve never seen so many fishes in one single snorkling session 🙂
Bami ( which I think is the person who takes care of the Homestay) is a very nice person and makes sure that every single guest has an amazing time at Kayafyof. He’s an asset to the business for sure.
I stayed on the newer bungalows above the water. They’re spacious and with a veranda with a hammock. Food was good. The whole experience was wonderful and I have nothing to fault

Amazing place. It has the best snorkeling jetty on the island, I’ve seen tons of fish and even mantas passing by on 2 different occasions. The food is delicious and plentiful and the bungalows are great with amazing sunset views.
The biggest star though is Bani, the manager. He speaks English very well and is always looking out for you. He took me to see his relatives to clean a wound and got some supplies in Wasai to cover it up to prevent infection. In the evening he took us to see the walking sharks.
I highly recommend his place.
I have nothing bad to add to this review.

The place is fantastic! I snorkeled around the entire island, and in my opinion, the coral reef near the jetty is the best on the island. The bungalows are over the water and far enough from the land, so there’s no issue with rats. The place is calm and peaceful, with no noise disturbances.
The food is the best I’ve ever tasted in Raja Ampat, and the portion sizes were very satisfying.
I have nothing bad to say—only GREAT things about this homestay! The most valuable aspect of this homestay is the owner, Bani. He is amazing! He’s kind, speaks good English, genuinely cares about customer satisfaction, and is very responsive. He truly goes above and beyond for his guests. For instance, he ensured I had my lunch ready to take with me while scuba diving, always checked in to make sure everything was okay, and provided helpful directions and tips.
Kayafiof Homestay is the best I’ve ever stayed at in Raja Ampat. Its scenic views, incredible house reef, and stunning jetty are remarkable. Combined with the amazing food and exceptional customer support (which is not common in Raja Ampat), this place is truly outstanding!

We had such a lovely time here! Stayed here 4 nights in the special bungalow and that was perfect! We were amazed by the corals just directly under the jetty, these were the best we experienced in Raja Ampat! Other people from other homestays come also to this jetty to snorkel and watch the sunset 🙂
Banu was super friendly and helped us in organising boats, diving and renting fins.

I stayed 5 nights and it is definitely the best guesthouse of the island. The location is the best. the jetty is the best Snorkeling spot of the island. Everyone of the over guesthouse are coming there for Snorkeling, for the sunset and sunrise view.
Bani the manager is lovely, and the price of boat transports and excursions are cheaper than in the other guesthouses.
The food was very good, and in big portion!
Don’t hesitate to choose this accommodation

I stayed 4 nights and it was all right. The room is good, the balkony nice, with a beautiful few over the lagoon. Food was good but I was not in touch with the people from the homestay.

We spent 2 nights here but we wish we had more time! The room was basic but perfect, food was very nice, the jetty is cute and the reef is incredible and much better than everywhere else we’ve been in Raja Ampat.
Bani was there to help us with absolutely anything we needed and even took us out looking for walking sharks. By far most helpful host in Raja Ampat, with good English and always around.

We stayed 3 nights and think the homestay is very beautiful. The jetty is amazing and the reef spectacular. Also they built the jetty very nice with decoration details, sun loungers and a swing.
Bani is always there if you need something and takes very good care of the guests.
The bathrooms are big but the shower water is super salty.
Unfortunately our experience with the food was not very good. We had the same for lunch and dinner every single day and it was not paid much attention to the eating area. Dirty dishes were sitting around for hours, tea was not filled up during an entire day, no more clean glasses and tables weren’t wiped down after eating. In the morning they were as dirty as after dinner the night before, so hygiene left much to be desired in that case.
A shame because other than that it’s a really great homestay!
Kami minta maaf atas kekurangan di homestay kami, masalah air di kamar mandi memang air di Arborek sedikit asing, sekali lagi kami minta maaf.

The best days of my vacation in many years.
The bungalows are perfect. We were in the one closest to the pier and the sunrise and sunset views were spectacular.
Clean shared bathrooms.
Good and plentiful food.
But I want to highlight Bani, he was always attentive, always helping us at all times, he made our stay better than we dreamed.
A 10 for Bani the best.
I would come back 1000 times without hesitation.

I stayed for 6 nights and was not the biggest fan.
The bungalows are fine, though the mattress is on the floor and very worn through. The food was always late and very sparse, without any dessert during day or dinner, though after a couple of days I found out that they were running out and just said nothing about it.
They ripped me and others off with trips, where they told me it would cost 700.000 to go to a bird tour in the morning, for which we left too late and missed the birds, and when we were just about to start in the morning, I was told it would be another 200.000 for the guide. 700.000 for a 15 min boat ride is outrageous. My neighbours had exactly the same issue, that they were given a price, and just when they were about to leave were asked for more. It seemed greedy and untrustworthy to me.

We stayed here for three nights in an overwater cabin which was a great introduction to Arborek. Low key, low-touch hosts, but responsive on WhatsApp for arranging trips or questions. Great snorkeling around the island (be aware of the currents) and you can access directly from the house jetty at both low and high tide. Best sunset on island directly from cabin.

We stayed here for 4 nights in October and really enjoyed our time here. The house reef was quite good but currents can be very strong at certain tides which made it hard work. This homestay seemed to have more variety of food than others we went to, and the food was always good. The facilities here were the best we had from the homestays we went to, and power is on for 20ish hours a day which is another positive. Bani was very proactive and friendly and would come check what we wanted to do the next day, while at other homestays we always had to seek out the owner to organise things. This proactivity really made our time here a lot easier. The rooms we stayed in had fans which also seems like a rarer thing in Raja Ampat. Overall if you plan on going to Arborek I can definitely recommend this homestay.

The best place in Arborek and maybe one the top in Raja Ampat. People is super friendly, the facilities are simple but very comfortable. The best part, the snorkelling access, cannot explain how beautiful is that spot. Enjoyed very much my stay here and would highly recommend it.

I stay in one Overwater Bungalow on the Jetty – wonderful. All is very nice. I can highly recommended this place. The good soul of the house is Bani, very very kind and helpful person.

If you are thinking about staying on Arborek, please do and stay here. We would have loved to stay more nights at this amazing homestay. Bani made our stay super special, took care of everything and took us to swim with manta rays. We had some unforgettable days here, in our opinion the jewel of Raja Ampat. Facilities are good, views and reefs are unbelievable, food was very tasty and plentiful. All in all, super recommended!

Hello,
We stayed 12 nights at Kayafyof Homestay in October 2019.
There were very few tourists on the island at this time of the year.
We had booked with the website “Stay Raja Ampat” and then got in touch with the owners by Whats’ App.
When we arrived in Wasai, a boat from Kayafyof Homestay was waiting for us.
From the bungalow’s terrace, It is possible to see black tip sharks and fish hunting under the bungalow at high tide, especially at the end of the day.
The last day we saw dolphins from our bungalow..!
The view from the bungalows is very beautiful.
The jetty of Kayafyof homestay is good but It is missing a staircase to go down in the water from the jetty.
Papa Bani was our main contact because he speaks English well. He was very friendly and available to help us.
Thank you Papa Bani !!!
Snorkelling from the main jetty of Arborek is good : black tip sharks, turtles, walking sharks, bump head parrot fish, jack fish…
Beware of the very powerful current that changes direction depending on the tides. It is better to have fins.
Overall we enjoyed our stay in this homestay.
The food was good and varied. Fresh fish was served daily. Bananas and oranges are also available.
However, the quantities are sometimes insufficient, especially when there are original foods (potatoes, french fries …)
But the food was very good and it is possible to ask them for a lunch box if you plan to take a trip to another island. (bird paradise, snorkelling, diving…)
The bungalows are equipped with a mosquito net which is essential to protect against mosquitoes.
However, it is missing a fan because it is very hot at night.
The bathroom and the toilets are in common.
Toilet paper is provided.
During our stay we did not have a towel so we used our.
Most of the hammocks were very confortable and new but ours was made of a fishing net that is not very pleasant for the comfort of the back.
It is unfortunate that the bungalows are not equipped with chairs with a backrest so you can sit comfortably.
During our 12 night stay, we had electricity only at night.
The internet connection is very good on the island (local SIM card).
We were able to see sunday morning mess at the church of the village.
We also participated in a traditional dance on our arrival. It was amazing ! Thank you !
There are shops on the island where you can buy many things.
On the negative points, we found the place particularly noisy. Indeed, we hoped to find calm by coming to an isolated island of raja ampat (no car, no motorbike, almost no cocks …). However, to the left of the bungalows, boats are parked on the sand. We were woken up every morning by the people who start the engine of their boat or who talk loudly around these boats that are located 5 meters from the bungalows.
From 6am you can be awakened by the fishing boats.
We were also woken up at 7am by someone who used a chainsaw to cut wood, just at the foot of our bungalow … It is totally disrespectful to use a chainsaw to cut wood at 7am just in front of bungalows where tourists are sleeping.
At 50 € / night for a couple (full board), we hoped to find some peace but were disappointed on this point.
At the same time I take the opportunity to indicate that a new bungalow was under construction in early October 2019 and that it is being built right in front of the terrace of another bungalow …
To the left of Kayafyof bungalows are also a beach with sand where we would have liked to put our towel. Unfortunately, there is a lot of litter strewn on the ground: glass bottle, plastic, bottle of motor oil for fishing boats, pieces of scrap metal, paint box. In short, it is very dirty and dangerous to walk barefoot at this place. The owners of the boats do not seem to respect the cleanliness of the places.
We even saw a woman throw in the water the dirty diaper of her baby at this place! (why not burn it like other waste?)
Regarding the toilet, I think that the trash can containing used toilet paper should be emptied every day and not wait several days that the trash overflows …
Overall we are satisfied with our stay on this paradise even if some things have a little spoiled our stay.
I also note that the dogs on the island are very aggressive with tourists. They are very territorial while the island is very small. “Ringo” is a dog that has bitten every tourist on the island and scratched my wife.
Trixie is also a very aggressive dog.
If you want to attract tourists you will have to make a decision about these dogs. It’s been nine months since we have been traveling in many Asian countries and we have never seen dogs as aggressive as on this island!
We had to walk with a stick all the time..! It’s not hollidays !
It is not normal to be attacked by a dog when you are on vacation and you want to go around the island for a walk. Especially that no one is able to show us a vaccination book indicating that the dog does not have rabies …
One day there will be an accident with a child …
I do not recommend this island to children in low ages.
After some research on the internet, I found that many tourists complain about being bitten by Arborek dogs, especially dogs from Barefoot conservation!
Last thing, if you want to see manta rays, come from the month of November until February !
Thank you Kayafyof Homestay !
Terimakasih Antonin

Stayed here for a week in paradise. The bungalows over the water are amazing to stay at with hammocks and simple but efficient, private settings. Eki is great! He helps with everything you ask him and the food is outstanding! Great variety in food, great diving all around made this visit memorable. Terima kasih!

The kayafyof offers beautiful bungalow very well placed. They are a quiet area with an amazing view and setting! The owner is very kind and bends over backwards to make us happy …. The meals are just excellent and in large quantities! Honestly, it will be impossible to find a place where you feel so good …
Thanks, see you next time.

I stayed with my family just a month ago at Kayafyof Homestay for 3 days.
My experiences are very good. They are very friendly and attentive towards the guest. Food are good and sufficient. Papawani one of the staff of the homestay is particularly helpful.
Boat tour prices are reasonable. We made boat tour for 3 days and homestay provided life jacket for everyday.
Eki himself is a good person. But Jefry who actually takes to boat tour and drives the boat is more than a good person. He helped my daughter who does not know swimming, a lot to snorkel really.
In Arborek card payment is not any problem for the helping attitude of ARBOREK DIVE SHOP. I ran short of cash but made card payment courtesy DIVE SHOP.
Rooms and other facilities are as per the web site page.
Raja Ampat itself is a fascinating place and we enjoyed it very much with Kayafyof Homestay.

We stayed for three nights from February 24. The two private bungalows over the beach have a platform in front of the verandah which makes a perfect place for sitting at the ends of the day to sit and admire the lovely views towards Mansuar, Batanta and the sea to the west. You can also watch little fishes in the shallow water below. There is also a nice view from the dining room. The food was good though there was no fruit.
The bungalow belonging to the nextdoor homestay is only 3 meters away. We were not disturbed by anyone staying there.
It is a 4 minute walk to the main jetty. Excellent snorkelling there but there are usually boats or parties of novice divers that scare off many of the fish.
Papa Bani was not always around and Eki took no interest in us, so we did not experience the high level of service that is normal in small R4 homestays.
No rats. And we did not encounter sand fleas.

We stayed here in January 2018 for 7 nights.
The pick up with our host Papa Bani in Waisai was very smooth, although the journey was quite slow due to the amount of rubbish the boat had to dodge on the way, and a fuel pick up at Sawinggrai village that we have become used to.
However Papa Bani brought us some delicious fruit to snack on, and stopped the boat to see a large pack of around 10-15 Mantas at manta ridge, just before arriving at Arborek which was incredible!!
The homestay is positioned on the quiet side of the island with 2 water bungalows and 2 land bungalows, with great views out to the South – You get to see sunrise and sunset!
Our water bungalow was well made and spacious, with a beautiful decking area and hammock to relax in.
The food was always okay, breakfast was fried bananas, lunch and dinner was a mix of rice, vegetables and either fish or egg.
Papa Bani was such a lovely host – He brought us some more of the laba fruit we liked so much, and also ‘disposed of’ a particularly large spider in the bathroom which was greatly appreciated!!
Snorkelling under the main jetty was nice except when there were boats. Sometimes there were multiple boats turning up at once which can be quite dangerous if you are snorkelling or free diving, also the engines and large groups scare off the fish.
Only 100 meters past the second jetty, swimming towards Kayafof was excellent snorkelling!
On our first session, we saw 2 mantas and lots of big schools of fish feeding in the deep. The best time of day is 4-6pm where there seems to be a fish frenzy! This was by far the highlight of Arborek.
We did not quite 5 star this Homestay as we felt that it was lacking a bit in some areas.
Papa Bani is very attentive and caring, but if he is away from the homestay nobody else checks on whether things have run out during the day, and we didn’t really know who else to ask!
We kept running out of basic things like tissue, toilet & mandi water, and hot water for tea and coffee. (There is no fresh water on tap here, so the mandi has to be filled manually).
If you did want to arrange a day trip out, you may feel a bit isolated – this wasn’t a problem for us as we came here to enjoy the snorkelling on Arborek specifically.
Although none of these issues stopped us from enjoying ourselves, the constant harassment from flies did get to us after a while.
Arborek particularly suffers from sand flies, more so than any other part of R4 we have been to.
They were relentless throughout the day and night, and no amount of deet spray seemed to help. Our advice, just stay in the water for as long as possible 😉
Overall we had a great time at Kayafyof, and would definitely come again.
Thank you Papa Bani for your hospitality!
Terima kasih sudah datang di kayafyof.
Kami minta maaf apa bila pelayanan kami tidak memuaskan.
We stayed here in January 2018 for 7 nights.

I stayed for 5 nights in Kayahof homestay in September. The location is very good, next to the village but very quiet. The bungalows, on the sea, are very beautiful, with a small terasse, a hammock and it is amazing to sleep on top of the sea. We shared the bathroom which was always clean. Papa Bani has been a great host; the food is very tasty and he really does his best to cater for all the guests’ requests; my friend got sick during the stay and he even managed to have a friend of his bring back some drops for her. The snorkeling in front, starting from the Jetty a couple of minutes away walking, is very good, many fishes, octopus and walking sharks, even though the current can get quite strong at the tip. Staying at Arborek is very nice, you can enjoy the village life and meet some great people. Thanks for everything Papa Bani and see you next time!

Stayed 3 nights in March 2017. Loved the relatively new over-water bungalow of Kayafyof right next to Lalosi homestay. Enjoying the sea view, fishing boats passing by, children playing in the nearby water and birds walking among the newly planted mangroves was so relaxing. In the early morning, we watched fishermen starting their activities.
Despite being in the village, we did not feel a lack of privacy there. It was even a plus point. We could walk around the environmental friendly Arborek island and go snorkling in the newly renovated jetty (10 minute walk), watching sunset on the other end in front of Orisun homestay (15 minute walk), and go back to enjoy the sereness of our bungalow with the great view while sipping a cup of coffee (bring your own favorite coffee if you are not used to the black local coffee). Be careful when walking close to the nearby Barefoot Dive complex as there were 2 dogs barking horrendously at and running towards any perceived “instruders (they seemed to trained that way).
Unlike in other homestays which had colorful bed/pillow sheets and moquitoes net, Kayafyof’s were white – which we liked. We put on our own bulbs (LED, warm light) to create a cozy atmosphere while bright enough to read, transfer/review photos, etc. Blankets and towels were provided.
Dining area was close by, next to the on-land 3-room bungalow. Rice + 2 dishes (veggies, egg or fish) and bananas were served for lunch and dinner with sweet cakes for breakfast but on the last day we got fried rice. Irene, the cook, served tasty food with just the right quantity (we always finished them all and were full enough). Kayafyof was still building its own bathroom & toilet when we were there (should be finished by now) so we had to use Lalosi’s which was not clean enough (old trash was not removed).
The jetty snorkeling was wonderful, like being inside a fish pot, especially in the morning and noon when locals were throwing rice to feed the fish. Swim to the neighbouring private jetty as there were lots of fish there too.
We used Kayafyof’s boat (for Rp 2M) to take us to the next homestay at Saukabu village in Paam Island and on the way stopped at Piaynemo to enjoy the hill-top panorama of the increasingly famous karst islands. We planned to also snorkel in Melissa’s garden on the way but the wind was getting stronger so we cancelled it.
Thank you Irene, Bani and Eki Mambrasar for the wonderful stay and pak Galan for taking us by boat to Piaynemo and Paam.
