Details

Karangkary Homestay lies on the sheltered northern shore of Pulau Waiweser. (Also often spelled Yarweser, or even “Wruwarez” according to google maps!)

Three VIP bungalows sit in the shade of beachside trees. The bungalows sleep two on mattresses on the floor. Extra bedding can be provided for a third guest if need be. The ensuite bathrooms have western style toilets and dip mandi (bucket) bathing.

Bungalow verandahs afford ocean views through overhanging beachside trees, and are equipped with a table and chairs.

Meals are served on bungalow verandahs, and free drinking water, and tea and coffee making supplies are provided there.

Electricity is provided by generator and is available from sunset to around midnight. The generator can be started at other times if required. A charge may apply for the extra fuel used.

Karangkary Homestay receives a weak and variable (4G/H) phone signal. An unstable data connection is sometimes available.

Basic supplies are available in Yarweser village, which is about a twenty minute walk (or five minute boat ride) away.

As elsewhere in Raja Ampat, effective waste disposal and recycling is unavailable at Karangkary Homestay. To avoid contributing to Raja Ampat’s growing waste problem, please always take all your inorganic trash away with you when you leave.

Only a little English is spoken at Karangkary, so take an offline translation app or phrasebook to ease communication.

Transport / Getting there

Transport between Waisai and Karangkary Homestay costs IDR 2,000,000.

The boat used can carry a maximum of four passengers, and the trip cost is shared by passengers.

If you have plenty of time, you don’t mind a bit of discomfort, and you want spend as little as possible on transport costs, then there are cargo boats that you can use to get to Batanta. (Obviously, if you are going to arrive on the cargo boat, then you don’t need to request a Waisai pickup when submitting the booking form above. You will also need to contact your hosts to arrange a pickup.)

Here’s what you need to know about getting the cargo boat to Batanta.

Activities

Karangkary Homestay is the perfect place for off-grid immersion in the natural world.

Bring snorkelling gear, because Karangkary's white sand beach gives way to seagrass shallows and rich offshore reefs, all bursting with marine life.

The jungles and lagoons behind the homestay host many bird species, including members of the mound-building megapode family.

Waiweser village is a short walk away, but do ask for a guide if you plan to walk there through the jungle.

Karangkary Homestay can provide local snorkelling and sightseeing trips on request.
