We stayed at Junior Homestead for 4 nights over NYE.
Accomodation is pretty basic but the rooms are clean and the view from the hammock on the balcony is lovely!
Unfortunately, the staff were the least friendly and proactive out of all the places we stayed on Raja Ampat. They spent most of the time back of house and were hard to find if you needed anything. No smiles/greeting when we walked past. Breakfast was a sad affair (but that was the case everywhere we stayed), lunch and dinner was okay, but portion sizes a bit small.
The location is fantastic, awesome snorkelling right out the front and a view of the baby black tipped sharks as well. It is an easy walk to the jetty (excellent snorkelling), shop and diving centres.
All in all, a basic hospitality experience that is cheap and clean.

We stayed here for 4 nights. The food was great, the room was comfortable, and the snorkelling in front of the bungalow is phenomenal. Kri is a great island! High recommend walking up to the view point.

At the end of my 3 weeks stay in Raja Ampat I stayed two nights in Juniors. The location is actually very beautiful with a wide shallow part until the beginning of the reef where you can sit and relaxe in the water during high tide. Sadly there are constructions for new homestays on both sides so soon the view will be more narrow.
The stuff is friendly but not very ambitious. The huts are basic and the bathrooms not really clean. The food was seriously delicious. Just the breakfast is actually not existing. While I was there the offer was plane white (unroasted) bread, no jam or anything with it, and something fried like cassava or banana which was definitely not enough for all the people and the cassava not eatable cause extremly sugary.
The generator is running all night without any reason which makes the nights very noisy. Maybe they do cause of the large amount of rates on the island due to overpopulation of this small island.
I maybe wouldn’t have been writing anything about Juniors if the owner wouldn’t have been contacting me after leaving. He knew that I’ll head to sorong the day after and tried to make a date with me. He asked about the hotel I’ll stay and clearly let me understand that he would like to meet for a romantic come together. From my point of view he definitely misused my data I needed to book the room and crossed borders he shouldn’t cross.
All together I’m looking back to my stay with very mixed emotions.
We’re really sorry to hear of this completely unacceptable behaviour, Annette, and we hope you are OK 😞
Thank you for publicly calling it out, and for warning others of your experience. Reviews are definitely the best way to effect change at homestays.
We have contacted Junior about this. They have admitted their behaviour, and have committed to never repeating it. If we receive another report of this kind of harassment at Junior, then they will be removed from Stay Raja Ampat.

We had an amazing stay with Juniors! So many memories – from waking up on the ocean with beautiful views and pods of dolphins swimming past, to sitting on the deck in the afternoon watching the baby black tips. The location was perfect too – just a short walk away from the main area where the 2 dive shops, but a little down the beach so felt private and more quiet. Food was good and Anton was very kind and helpful.

We stayed at Junior homestay in March 2025. We had a fantastic stay. We are vegetarians and the food was excellent, plentiful, on time and always with a vegetarian option. The rooms were very clean, and the bathroom and toilet facilities, while old, were functional and clean and we always had hot water in the evenings for showers, when the power was on. We didn’t see any rats or evidence of rats. The huts are over the water right on the wonderful Kri house reef, so you can just swim straight out to it and do fabulous snorkeling in either direction, meeting the resident turtles, reef sharks, batfish, cuttlefish etc. For divers, Soul Scuba is a five minute walk away up the beach. I can highly recommend this homestay, it was wonderful.

Our stay in Junior Homestay was very amazing.
– very good location if you want to snorkel with reef next door
– perfect if you want to dive as well with Soul Scuba
– staff was discrete but very nice to us when needed
– food has been good and with many different variations during our stay.
– no rats like you can read for other homestays on Kri (which was our biggest concern).
Thank you !!

The structure is overall a bit dilapidated and would need to be renovated and cleaned. There is a lot of abandoned garbage and unfortunately thy burn the plastic behind bungalows. It absolutely doesn’t deserve 5 stars!
There was nobody at our arrival to welcome us introduce us to the homestay. The staff is not proactive, very private. They speak very little English and it’s hard to communicate.
Food was fairly good but not great, a bit more variety would have been nice.
Breakfast should be more generous, as it was at times not enough for the number of guests, often just white bread and peanuts butter.
Toilets and shower are very basic, a bit dark, and could use some renovations. In spite of the above, the location was wonderful, a magic scenary, especially sunset. Quiet and relaxing. the reef was not near, nice snorkelling was possible only after a ten -minutes’ walk, more or less one swimming towards the dive centre.

We stayed 3 night at Junior Homestay and had two bungalows. They were spacious and clean. Are great plus is the fan in the night which works as long as the generator is on.
Loved to chill in the hammock and watch sunrise or the most beautiful sunset. it’s very quiet and close to a stunning reef. Also two divecenters just 5 min. walk away.
Food was not the best. No fish, although they got fish for themselves and cooked it, after we ate. Very basic food and not enough when the bungalows were occupied. Breakfast was like 12 slices of Toastbread for 10 people.
The hosts said “hi” at the arrival and never talked to us again. No questions, no explenations how thins work etc.
The location is truly great, but there is much room with the hosting and reliabilty. No one is really around. It felt that they just did what they had to – putting 3 meals on the table.
We also missed our ferry because we left 35 min. later than what we agreed on and then the boat broke down twice. Thank god we had the 2pm ferry later that day. Otherwise we would have missed our flight.

We stayed almost two weeks there and we loved it. Great quiet location on Kri Island with a beautiful reef and cute baby reef sharks 💕 Soul Scuba Dive and Yenbuba Diving are a 5 minutes walk away. 100% recommended!

We spent 5 nights at Junior and had a great time. The location is stunning above the blue water and we just loved chilling in the hammock or sitting on the deck in the sun with a cold beer while the baby black tips pass you by.
Food was good but not great, breakfast should be more as it was often not enough for the amount of guests.
Toilets and shower are a bit dark and could use some renovations to be honest.
5 min walking from the soul scuba jetty (make sure to book in advance with them if you want to dive) with beautiful corals and lots of fish. Also nice place to chill with a beer for the sunset.

Spent 4 nights at Junior Homestay, Reuben who care takes the property was really helpful. And the kids are adorable. The location is so quiet and beautiful, the snorkelling just by the huts is some of the best I’ve seen. With baby reef sharks cruising around when the tide is high. Food was delicious and varied for lunch and dinner, usually rice with two different vegetable sides and a protein (chicken, tofu or fish once). breakfast was very basic (white toast and sweet peanut butter). Beautiful sunsets from the comfort of your own mini balcony. Very conveniently located 5 minutes walk to soul scuba diving but you also get to have a very quiet atmosphere.
Bathrooms are very basic, and could be improved slightly, and the fan while worked was probably on its last legs. Otherwise comfortable stay and would definitely visit again! Thank you Reuben for having us!

Great huts, over the water. The reef is right there, with a ladder to go down. Good food and location – 4 minute walk from soul scuba and 8 minute walk to the 3nd of the island. The sunsets are great, especially from thier roomy Hammacks. The huts have real beds.

I spent 4 nights at Junior Homestay and I loved it !
The homestay is located over the lagoon. In front of the homestay, you can find a beautiful reef, lots of fish and some sharks ! Great for snorkeling. Also, you can reach Soul Scuba Divers, 5 minutes walking along the beach.
I book an overwater bungalow and the view was amazing ! There is a terrace where you can sit on a chair or rest in the hammock. The bathroom and shower were good too, it was clean.
The food was good, even if it’s sometimes the same meals. Breakfast is often just toasts and peanut butter but I asked for bananas and the staff gave me some.
The staff is nice, but not proactive to offer any help. English is basic. For me it was not a problem.
I recommend to stay in Junior Homestay !

Great localisation on Kri Island.
The food was tasty and well-prepared, but a bit more variety would have taken it to the next level!
And waking up to see baby sharks in the nursery right in front of our overwater bungalow? Truly an unforgettable experience! A unique touch that made the stay amazing.
The bathroom facilities were simple, with low-pressure showers fed from a tank and traditional toilets that might differ from what some are used to.

We enjoyed our stay with Junior homestay on Kri. The location is at the end of a strip so it was quiet with no passerby’s. About 5-10min walking on the beach and you’re at Soul Divers – in case you’re a diver. With the homestay you can organise snorkeltrips as well.
The wooden bungalows were nice and clean. Good bed and a decent mosquitonet, a table and a chair. On the terrace you have chairs and a hammock. During low tide your bungalow is on the beach and during high tide it’s over the water so you can see fish and we even spotted a blacktip reef shark from our terrace!
The food was okay (breakfast, lunch & dinner – tea & water are provided but the water is not cooled).
Nice bonus is that you can buy a fresh beer & cola with them and that in the evening there’s wifi (but you really don’t need it).
They don’t really speak English and keep to themselves, but it’s very easy to communicate over whatsapp – that helps them to translate your message as well. 🙂
What we didn’t like is that food was often later than the schedule. For us as snorkelers that didn’t really matter, but the reason all homestays have a schedule is to match with the timings of all the dives. We stayed 4 nights and for example, the breakfast was late 2 times. We had to wake them up to get some basic breakfast so we could eat something before going for a snorkeltrip. But the rest of the guests had to leave for their morning dives with an empty stomach…

Junior Homestay was such an incredible experience! When we arrived at Waisai, Rubin picked us up from the ferry terminal and took us on a private motor boat (approximately 45 minutes) to Raja Ampat. He dealt with our heavy luggage, and kept it safe and dry underneath a tarp during the ride.
The rooms are on stilts right above the water, with a mosquito net above the bed and a fan to keep cool at night. There is a separate building containing western style toilets and showers. While the facilities are basic, they serve their purpose. There is a porch outside of the room with seats and a table, and a hammock to relax. You can see many fish right from your room as well as reef sharks and harlequin snake eels in the shallow waters. During high tide, you can get into the water from the cabins and take a 10 minute swim/snorkel across the sandflat and seagrass to the reef. If you are a diver, Soul Scuba Divers is located just a 5-10 minute walk down the beach. Snorkeling from the dock at the Soul Scuba Divers location is spectacular. Check the tides before snorkeling, as many small jellyfish are pushed onto the reef when the tides change.
Rubin and the rest of the staff were extremely helpful and kind to us, and are available to take you around the islands and to different reefs. They served hot and delicious meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and provided instant coffee, tea, and snacks (fruit & sandwiches) all day in the restaurant. There is WiFi and electricity while the generator is being run (typically in the early evenings through the early hours of the morning, but turned on if we requested) – and we also had 5G cell service from our room.
The location was so remote and so peaceful. If we are lucky enough to get to come back to Raja Ampat we will definitely stay with them again!

Exactly what we were looking for! Came to Junior Homestay in early April and it was perfect. Location was away from other home stays but still only a 5 minute beach walk to SOUL Scuba where we could hangout for the day. Accommodation was great, bedrooms were nice and simple, porch had a hammock, bathrooms were clean. Location on the water was gorgeous and the wildlife directly underneath the bungalow included baby black tips, blue spot stingrays and a lot more! Food was genuinely delicious and in good portion sizes for Raja Ampat. You could buy beer here. Awesome stay I would highly recommend.

Very good stay at Junior Homestay. The bungalows are very confortable and clean and the homestay is situated close to nearby dive center and has a very nice reef just on the frontdoor. Food was well cooked and you can buy some beverage also.

Junior Homestay was everything we expected and more. My 3 friends and I stayed here for 9 days and heard from many other couples that this homestay was better than the previous ones they had stayed at. The food was absolutely delicious every single meal and were good sized portions. The family working the homestay is so so so so sweet and everyone works very hard to ensure their guests are happy. The rooms were comfortable and they clean the bathrooms every morning. I would definitely recommend staying at Junior Homestay!

Merci Junior Homestay

We had a lovely 4night stay there. We chose Junior after reading opinions about the level of cleanliness and quality of food and it is all true! Food was the best of all homestays we have been to, bungalows new, well equipped and spacious, bathrooms bright and clean. We had no rodent encounters which can be an issue on Kri. House reef is a bit far away but you can easily walk to Jenuba jetty (5 min). If you plan to dive – junior homestay is not associated with any dive center and Kri got really busy so make sure to plan your diving well (months) ahead with Souls Divers or Yenkoranu.

If you plan to dive – junior homestay is not associated with any dive center and Kri got really busy so make sure to plan your diving well (months) ahead with Souls Divers or Yenkoranu.
My partner and I stayed 1 week at Junior homestay and we had an amazing time.
The bungalow was spacious and clean, with the best view to enjoy from the comfy hammock.
The family is discreet but was always attentive to our needs, and omg the food was incredible. A real feast. Always more than enough food for everyone and as a vegetarian, I was pleased to find tofu, tempeh or eggs everyday on the table.
NO RATS at Junior, but cute little sharks coming in front of the bungalows.
We 100% recommend Junior homestay and if we ever go back to Kri, it will be our first choice again.

We stayed at Junior Homestay for five nights in the beginning of February 2024. This was the best (of 4) accommodations we stayed in in Raja Ampat. As other guests have said: great location, pleasant rooms, good food (fruits with every meal; breakfast not so great), everything spotless clean, forthcoming hosts. What is not so often mentioned by other guests: abundant spectacular snorkelling and diving sites all around the location. The house reef east and west (west of the soul scuba jetty) both have stretches of beautiful coral and on some days an abundance of fish; we saw turtles every time we snorkelled the reef south of Ransiwor island; Yenbuba Yetty has an abundance of large fish; and the turtle bay reef (Kri south-western coast) for me is one of the most spectacular coral sites I’ve seen (plus large reef sharks). All those sites can be snorkelled starting from Junior Homestay terrace, but beware low tide currents: the top reef on both sides of Ransiwor island is covered by really shallow water at low tide, with a strong north-east to south-west current => you risk to get serious injuries when trying to swim back to Junior Homestay at low tide (the pick-up at Yenbuba Jetty by Junior Homestay boat is 200’000 and worked perfectly for us).

We enjoyed our stay at Junior. There was always plenty of food, with a good variety every day. The stuff does not speak English, but that is no problem, everything was taken care of. We did not see the owner, but for questions he was always available on WhatsApp. There are now 6 bungalows, and we got in contact with the other guests immediately. House reef is very good and there are a few possibilities by walking. There were no rats, as we heard from other homestay at Kri
. Be aware not to leave any not compostable garbage ant the homestay, since it is dumped at the backyard and later burned. Good homestay, lovely staff, wonderfull nature.

We enjoyed our time at Junior Homestay. Halfred and his family were warm, welcoming and helpful whenever we needed anything. He was quick to respond and coordinated well for our trips and questions.
The location was convenient for diving for us as well as regular snorkels on the house reef, which was lovely. We enjoyed watching baby sharks and rays in the water early morning and evening.
We never went hungry and takeaway meals for day trips were easy to arrange.
Would recommend it to anyone 🙂

The Best place in Kri island!
The Best place in Kri island!
Best Place in Kri, beautiful sunset from the hammok, food nice and plentiful , close to the jetty where you can see the best reef of Kri. And close to the Dive Center also. From the bungalow you can see fish, baby Shark, snakes and stunning water colors that changes with the change of hours…
Just one huge problem.
You’ll never want to leave.

Very nice place to stay. Cabin is over the water with the best sunset views! Shared bathrooms are cleaned every day.
Lovely family and great food, free water and coffee/tea.
They also offer very reasonable priced transport. Snorkelling from the jetty is great.
I found out that this website is taking a huge cut (more than other booking systems) which is very dissapointing pretending they are all for the locals. Seems that if you want to support the locals, better contact them though WA
Thanks for taking the time to leave a review Tanya. Your reviews are so helpful, for both homestay ownwers and guests. Especially for homestays like Junior who have so few! 🙏
Regarding your “taking a huge cut” allegation: Whoever told you this is either woefully uninformed, or is deliberately spreading a malicious lie.
Stay Raja Ampat, which is owned by the homestay owners themselves, retains a commission of 15% from booking payments. That commission, which was set by consensus among the member homestays, pays for the website and all the support it provides to homestay owners and guests. It pays for the operation of the Homestay Information Center at Waisai, and it pays the Homestay Association’s staff salaries.
It’s a shame that you chose to believe and repeat this lie, rather than reach out to check the facts, which have been published on the website for years. A link to this information was also provided in every booking system email sent to you.

The structure is clean and tidy and the bungalows are hospitable: the bed is comfortable, with a mosquito net that prevents insects from entering and a fan (it only works at night when there is electricity). There is a hammock outside to relax in and enjoy the beautiful scenery, with the coral reef just steps away for snorkelling. The food is good and varied, with water, tea and coffee always available. The family is very kind. It is in a quiet place, with no neighbors but a 5-minute walk from the diving center.

We had an amazing stay at Junior Homestay.
The room is comfortable and spacious. The food is good and people are nice, always smiling.
The Homestay is well located and it feels like you are on your own private island.
