Bedding provided includes pillows, bolsters, sheets and  mosquito nets.

Both bungalows have light switches and power outlets for charging devices. The rooms are nicely decorated, and fitted with small tables and wall shelving. (See the photos in the gallery above.) is provided. and bedroom light switches and fine ocean views to Arborek and sunset views over western Gam.

Meals at Indos Homestay are served on the bungalow verandahs. The large, covered verandahs have ocean views to Arborek, Mansuar and Batanta and sunset views over western Gam. The verandahs are equipped with a table and chairs, a recliner and a hammock.

A two room bathroom building on land houses a dip mandi bathroom and western syle toilet.

A good phone signal that supports a (slow) 4G internet connection is usually available.

Kapisawar village lies at the end of Indos Homestay’s boardwalk and basic supplies are available there. It’s best to arrive with any consumeables you regard as essential though, and please take all your inorganic rubbish away with you when you leave. The only waste disposal available on Gam (as in all of Raja Ampat) is incapable of removing plastics from the environment. Please don’t add to the problem.

Transport / Getting there

Transport from Waisai to Indos Homestay costs IDR 1,000,000 and is by longboat capable of carrying four passengers. Trip cost is shared by passengers.

Activities

Snorkelling and diving

Indos Homestay has an on-site dive center. In-house guests do not need to book dives in advance.

There’s good snorkelling all along the southern coast of Gam and Indos Homestay has a great house reef.

Snorkelling and sightseeing trips can be arranged as desired and use Indos’ longboat, which can carry up to 4 passengers.

Village visits, hiking, Bird of Paradise viewing

Kapisawar is a pretty village with a shady beach and plenty of opportunity for social interaction. The village jetty also provides good snorkelling at high tide, but beware of currents out near the end when the tide is running.

A shady concrete walking path joins Kapisawar to Sawinggrai village to the east. Sawinggrai also offers social interaction, fabulous jetty snorkelling and occasional cultural performances in the building on the end of the jetty. The path continues to the east, past a number of other homestays to Nudibranch Homestay, where there’s a solid boardwalk that allows you to easily explore the mangrove forest.

Red Birds of Paradise display at dawn and dusk in the jungle inland from Sawinggrai – just ask if you’d like to organise a guided tour.

  • Stay: october 2025
Food: Nice fresh and rich indonesian food. Breakfast, Lunch, Snack, Dinner. Coconuts avaiable.
Things to do: Day Trips to Manta Point, Cape Kri ( big fishes, Tunas), jetty (Napoleon fishes), Friwen Wall (maybe seehorses), Gams Bay ( bat cave, jellyfish lake, Mandarine fishes). You can see Kuskus if you ask them. Also possible to see the Paradiese bird but we didn’t do that. Small village (sometimes noisy) and a school with school project that sells, among other things, delicious juices.
Facilities: The most beautiful decorated cottage on our trip with hammock, lounger, plenty of storage space and clothes rack. Communal bath with shower.

  • A great stay with the Indos, some quick updates not mentioned here when we booked… they now have 3 over water bungalows (the newest one having an extra shaded varanda area), they have a dive shop with new equipment and good dive guides. So you are all sorted as they can arrange other trips, can get a speedboat on hire for Piyanemo etc.

    Now about out stay:

We felt very special staying at Indos, the people, the kids and even the other villagers were so warm and friendly. We had our marriage anniversary on one of the days, so they arranged a surprise party for us on a secret spot (took us to an abandoned homestay after the long trip to Piyanemo), they pieced together a musical concert with guitar, Uke and flute and presented us a really tasty proper big cake with our names written on it… if you know how remote the place is, only then you can realize how much effort they put into organizing this… and for us, this celebration was something money cannot buy, however many millions of Rupiah you spend anywhere else… so that’s how personal and close they had become

The kids were fun to interact with, some of the older girls spoke really good English with very good accent… we had brought a lot of snacks not knowing what to expect in terms of food… but food was not only so good but also we were served evening snacks and fresh caught Tuna, veggies, chicken, eggs (one protein, veggie, rice, fruits for every meal) we could not finish all the meal so never really touched any of the snacks (they even cooked us instant noodles when requested one arvo)
We were glad we could share all those lollies, crackers and choc with the kids, my wife was so impressed by the girl of one of the dive guides, she gifted her unopened perfume.

Some things we were worried about – 1. shared toilet and shower: only 3 bunglows using them, always kept clean, had a shower head, no flush toilet but enough water stored… so no issues there. Walking to the toilet in the middle of the night was a bit of an issue though specially if you woke up and went as the path is a bit rickety over water (keep a torch)
    2. Food – as mentioned was generous, very tasty.. we went to their kitchen and saw how carefully they prepare the food
    3. Staying close to a village – this worked wonderfully great for us, we had such a great time playing with the kids, my wife and son were invited and went to their Christmas mass at church… there are some small kiosks you can buy things
    4. Dive and trips – diving was awesome with Pakis, they have new equipment, well maintained, follows safety procedures. Their boat is a slower one with no shades but can arrange for speedboat (costs a lot though)
    5. House Reef – not that great compared to other places but we saw sharks coming in under our cottage, star fish lying around, lion fish swimming past, some nice coral on the drop off… there is a bit of a grassy area where I was able to get some fish nibble on my feet (a bit of spa) while seating over the stairs from the room 🙂
    Highly Recommend!

  • From the moment the Indos crew picked us up with a boat from previous homestay, we felt welcomed in a warm way. Moreover, the moment we arrived to Indos homestay, the first impression was really good and it felt like everything was well organized.

Compared to other homestays we went, the bungalows felt luxurious and the veranda of our bungalow was excellent place to spend time and chill in the hammock. House reef was good and we even saw a turtle there.

The food was carried to every bungalow. Bathroom was a bit far but on the other hand this is compensated by the location of the bungalows, which are totally over water, where you can spot some sea life.

We had a really good diving/snorkeling day trip to Melissas garden and Rufas, that ended with a small hike to Piyanemo viewpoint.

We saw the Spotted Cuscus at the homestay and the “paid” house parrot, which both enjoyed some banana. The people at the village were warmly welcoming. We hugely recommend the place!

  • We enjoyed our stay at Indos. The newest bungalow furthest from the land has a comfortable bed and a larger front deck and the best views. All had lots of windows and fans which ran until 6am at least which was much appreciated. The mandi had an overhead shower unlike the other two homestays where we stayed.

Being pretty far over water meant a long walk down to the bathrooms. It’s a somewhat narrow boardwalk with no handrails and not especially well lit, with some lights burned out. New moon high tides left the area in front of the bathroom and shower shallowly flooded.

Meals were pretty good, but were served on our porch, which limited chances to interact with other guests. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Folks in the village were friendly and welcoming while engaged in pre-Christmas preparations and celebrations, involving loud drumming.

Communication was somewhat problematic. They were supposed to pick us up at a homestay on another island, but instead went in the opposite direction to the ferry landing, and finally picked us up 7 hours late.

The first cabin had 2 mattresses stacked on top of each other, with a deep depression in the center, forcing our two bodies together in the center, making sleep difficult. We requested a different room, and it was a great improvement. A couple of the rooms could use new fans.

Once we set clear expectations about the excursions we were interested in, they turned out well. We got a nice long look at a male red bird of paradise after a 40 minute hike from Indos. We saw a number of beautiful parrots and an eagle as well. On the snorkeling trip from Mangrove Point to Citrus Ridge, we saw spectacular coral, fish and a shark. The house reef wasn’t the best but we got a great look at a banded sea snake. The hosts alerted us when the frequently visiting spotted cuscus arrived and we saw it 2 of the 3 nights we were there.

  • Of all three places where I stayed during my 10 day trip in Raja Ampat, the bungalow of Indos Homestay was the most luxury. It comes with a mosquito net and a lounger on the veranda. You can also put up a hammock. From your veranda you will experience an amazing sunset if not cloudy. There is a good phone signal, also during the day. And when it is dark you have electricity.

The homestay is in a small town. So do not expect it to be totally quiet. For me this adds to the charm, to see and hear village life around you. It was also nice to have the possibility to buy an ice coffee or beer at the kiosk at the base of the jetty.

Food is being served on your veranda. This is part of the more luxurious experience. But for me as a solo traveler I prefer to share and join lunch / dinner with others. Nevertheless, all the dishes were very tasteful.

The house reef is quiet good! You can snorkel with the current to the jetty of the next town and you will sea for sure some turtles and nice corals. You can also do a boattrip to Gam Bay (which I would recommend) and to some nice reefs in the surrounding.

The downside off my stay at Indos were the people who run the place The contact I had was not very spontaneous or warm, but more in a formal way. It was not that I didn’t feel welcome, but It seemed to me like they didn’t enjoy running this place. So I hope this is a helpful feedback.

  • Coming back for the second time to Raja Ampat with my kids, this was truly the highlight of our stay.
We stayed for 4 nights but wished we could have stayed longer.
The family is so welcoming and nice!! Our kids had the best time of their lives playing with the family.
The bungalow’s are very spacious (and even have Wifi) and very comfortable.
We went fishing and did some beautiful trips with them.
We swam with manta’s and dolphins right across the homestay (in july).
The “house” Cuscus comes by every night to eat a banana.
A big thank you to the cook, the meals were exceptionally good, the best we had in Raja Ampat!!
We will definitely try to come back, but stay for a longer period.
    I highly recommend staying here!!!!!

  • Indos Homestay has two beautifully built bungalows on stilts, each with its own terrace, perfect for relaxing. I found the bed excellent: a good mattress and comfortable pillows made for restful nights. There are mirrors both in the bungalow and the shower room, something I hadn’t seen at other homestays. The bungalow also has a clothes rack, a first aid kit, and some books, which added a nice touch.

The food was varied and tasty, and the fact that it was brought to the terrace felt like a kind of room service. The family was incredibly friendly and welcoming. From the village of Kapisawar, there’s a paved road that leads to Sawinggrai, great for a walk.

I only stayed three days, but I hope to return and stay longer in this beautiful place.

  • We loved our stay at Indos Homestay! What a treat having this beautiful overwater bungalow with undistracted sunset view, direct water access with a beautiful reef – make sure you swim towards the right, as the reefs really gets better that way. We saw black tip sharks, turtles and hundreds of fishes. Don’t miss out on the massive clam shell straight in front!
The owner is very very nice and kind, supporting his village a lot and teaches at the child aid Papua school nearby – definitely worth to visit and buy one of their ocean warrior shirts in order to support the school. They really make a difference in the village.
The bathrooms are basic and so is the food – and on Indonesian time:)
We loved our stay and would always come back!

  • My friends and I stayed at Indos Homestay for 4 nights. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it.

The rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean with decking that looks out onto the most beautiful sunset. And the toilets were clean.

The food was plentiful, delicious and varied. Whilst mostly fish, rice and veg based, the fish was off freshly caught and we had a good variety (curry, vs fried, vs stew, and different veg each night). Penny and Fanny also served great snacks – we had everything from fried banana with cheese and chocolate, to freshly baked chocolate bread).

Overall, what made the stay really special was Joffrey and his staff. Not only are they genuinely lovely people (Joffrey the owner is an expert in Papuan dance and teaches culture at the local charity school), they delivered the perfect balance of attentiveness and privacy.

It is worth noting that the homestay is located at the edge of a village so if you are looking for a place completely shut out from the world that acts as a resort then this might not be for you. But we loved watching village life, and hearing the children play, and walking over to the village nearby (the shop at the end of the pier also sells beer and lots of snacks).

So if you are looking for a homestay that gives you a glimpse of life in Raja Ampat, meeting the locals and staying in a place that is actually Papuan owned then this is the place for you. Joffrey and his team offer a range of activities, we were lucky enough to spot the red bird of paradise nearby and went to nearby Gam bay in search of bats!

We cant wait to go back.

  • Great spot, will stay there again. Fun walk to see the Bird of Paridise in the jungle. Cabins were clean almost new and had great ventilation from the ocean. Rooms were nice sized and had big decks out front with a hammock. Rooms also had a drying rack, shelves and a mirror. Bathrooms were on land and shared but were kept very clean. Easy and fun to walk into the village nearby. Hosts were polite and helpful for any needs. The food was I think great. Just remember where you are in a remote area where items can be difficult to get so be polite and respectful. I expect to go back as it was very clean, the food was great and there are tours available for the jungle and snorkeling.

  • Amazing homestay, nicest and most clean bungalow we stayed in from our entire Raja Ampat trip.

Kaloli/Jufrey the owner is the best guy that does everything he possibly can to make your stay perfect. Bungalows are on the water, peaceful and no mosquitos with a nice constant breeze from the sea. He does a selection of tours and serve delicious meals and an afternoon snack.

The whole family is very helpful, and they have a shop where you can buy a selection of snacks and cold drinks.
It’s just by a local village where you can experience the friendly local life.

Raised beds, full cell coverage and 12 hours of electricity. Lastly it had the cleanest bathroom we’ve seen on our RA trip.

  • My husband and I loved our stay at Indos Homestay. The bungollow was absolutely amazing, spacious, clean and so well organized. The best we had in RA. Jufri has paid a lot of attention to details making sure you will have everything you need even before you know you need it. There was no mosquitos so we could fully relax on the terrace on our sunbed and hammock and watch the wildlife from our doorstep. We saw dolphins passing by, cuttlefish, sea snake and many other spectacular creatures just around the bungollow. There is bird watching opportunities and a kingfisher and couscous are frequent guests. Jufri speaks good english and has multiple tours on offer. There is a village nearby with well equipped shop. It was great to watch the village life from our dock. The food was delicious and plenty. The family is lovely. Electricity is provided from 6pm til 6 am. We would love to come back. Highly recommended!

  • Lovely homestay with lovely owners, something exceptional, comparing with other accomodations. Quite unique, that there are two just bungalows, which results personal attendance, and service from the hosts, and you get more privacy.
I also liked, that meals are being served on the teracce, and I didn’t have to eat with others every day. Bungalows have direct connection to the sea, both are brand new, nice furnished, and equipped with everything. The view from the teracce is just amazing.
No wifi, but strong 4G coverage, if you have Telkomsel SIM card. The accomodation lies next to a village, which gives you a chance to observe the local life, and buy some basic stuffes in the shops.
Jufri and Sina are very kind, help you everything, and they have many tour options around the islands.

There are no relevant negatives. Just small things, like the variety of the meals. All food were very delicious, but almost the same every day. Dinner: fish, rice, vegetables. Breakfast is some cake, sometimes banana, no fruit, no vegetables, no egg, no bread. I know the challenge of limited ingredients, but my previous homestay had much more variety of meals.
Note that the village is not always silent. Sometimes loud music comes all day from another house, sometimes, childrens play, so be prepared for this issues.

  • We arrived and decided within an hour to extend our stay by an additional 4 days. For us, this was paradise. So, we spent a week at Indo, and we really enjoyed it. It’s important to know that the owner, Jufri, has a Wise bank account. This means you can settle payments digitally with him. Cash is, of course, important, but if you run out of cash, you can settle all your transport and trips digitally, allowing you to enjoy your vacation without constantly counting your money. A real advantage! He also speaks English, which makes communication smooth.

Of course, there is beautiful coral around the house for snorkeling, and there are very nice coral spots in the area, but that’s an excursion. We also had a great opportunity to see the paradise bird (Red Bird of Paradise) here. As for the special, non-stinging jellyfish, you don’t have to go to Misool; they also swim in Gam Bay, just 10 minutes by boat. Gam Bay is stunning, with islands, creeks, and turquoise waters.

What might be better than other places is that you live in a small village. So, a walk along the well-maintained path to the Christian church. The youth play drum music, and there are a few small shops where you can buy cold beer. There’s a school, and the people keep their village tidy.

You can also stare out over the sea and watch dolphins and turtles, and occasionally a blacktip reef shark will visit your house. The house is very neat and well-finished. Attention has been paid to the details, and the bed is raised off the floor, which helps with moisture. In addition to a few chairs, a lounge bed, and a hammock, there is a drying rack for your laundry. The toilet and shower are on the mainland and are super clean, spacious, and well-equipped.

You are truly staying with the family. They cook for you and bring your food. The children help out too. The food is good and delicious: rice, fish, and vegetables. You can also go fishing with Jufri to catch your own food. Definitely an experience. The family does everything for you, even the laundry. This can only be done in the evening, as there is electricity from 18:00 to 06:00. So, a good power bank is necessary, as the internet works well. Diving is on another island, so it will require transport.
