Details
Feey Yef Homestay occupies a tiny bay on a karst island near the village of Wawiyai in northern Kabui Bay.
The homestay is a great base from which to explore northern Kabui Bay.
Two over-water bungalows have decks at front, and views across the bay to the jungled islets that crowd the northern part of the Kabui seascape.
The bungalows sleep two raised beds. Sheets, pillows, bolsters and mosquito net are provided.
Meals are served in Feey Yef’s over-water dining shelter. In addition to the usual long table and bench seating, the dining shelter is equipped with a hammock and recliner for relaxation.
Free drinking water, and tea and coffee making supplies are always available in the dining shelter.
A private over-water bathroom houses a western style toilet and bucket bathing. (Be sure to bring a light source for negotiating the boardwalks at night!)
Electricity is provided by generator and is available from sunset to around midnight. If needed, the generator can be started on request. There may be an extra charge for fuel if needed for long periods outside normal hours.
Feey Yef usually receives around half bars of a 4G phone signal. Data connections are possible, but not stable.
Wawiyai village is a 2km boat ride away if you need emergency supplies, but you should definitely bring anything you consider essential with you.
You’ll also need to take any inorganic waste away with you when you leave.
Only a little English is spoken at Feey Yef Homestay, so bring a phrasebook or translation app if you don’t speak Bahasa Indonesia.
Transport / Getting there
Transfers between Waisai and Feey Yef Homestay cost IDR 1,250,000 each way. The trip cost is shared by boat passengers (max 2).

Activities
The village of Wawiyai looms large in local lore, as it is here that the events related in Raja Ampat's founding myth took place.
The dragon's eggs from which hatched the original kings of Raja Ampat were found here. One which didn't hatch is still venerated, and is housed in a hut on the banks of the Waikeo River near Wawiyai. Once a year (and the only time that outsiders may get a glimpse of it), it is removed from its cloth wrapping and ceremonially washed.
There are a number of other ancient cultural sites than can be visited on boat trips from Feey Yef, including funerary caves and ancient rock art galleries. (See the photo gallery above.)
The famed snorkeling and dive site of Kabui Passage is nearby, as is the Marindal panoramic lookout point.
Birdwatching and jungle treks along a section of the newly built dirt road out of Wawiyai can also be arranged, as can snorkelling trips.

I had a great stay at Feey Yef. I stayed for 4 nights and David and his family took great care of me. The area is very peaceful and quiet. Pretty much no boat traffic, which stood in contrast to the homestay I stayed at in Gam. It was nice to be away from the more trafficked areas. I snorkeled and enjoyed the reef right in front which had nice coral. The food was very good and plentiful. The cabin was clean and comfortable. I would definitely return for another visit.

If you are looking for a peaceful retreat away from the busier areas look no further! We spent two nights in Feey Yef and during that time we saw only one boat with some locals.
Our bungalow was clean and really nicely decorated. The bathroom was also nicely decorated and spotlessly clean. They even had nice smelling hand soap on a beautiful dispenser. Felt like luxury.
We didn’t go snorkeling as we did not want to try our luck as there are crocodiles in the bay even though David told us that snorkeling is safe around the homestay. From the deck we saw some water spitting archer fish and a juvenile black tip reef shark was patrolling around the homestay waters.
The food was really good and there was plenty of it. We are vegetarians and we were catered well with tofu, tempeh, eggs and delicious vegetables. The sambal that Davids wife makes is really tasty.
Kabui Bay is stunning and the homestay owner David knows the area really well. We did one day trip with him and spent 3 hours on a boat looking for beautiful scenery and cultural and historical sites. Highly recommend the trips here.
The birdlife is vibrant in Kabui Bay and birdwatching is easy from the boat, so if you are an avid birder, bring your binoculars! We saw some kingfishers, cockatoos, hornbills etc.
David doesn’t speak much English, but enough to get by. Some Bahasa skills are still handy if you are heading to Feey Yef or bring a pharesebook or a translator app.
The internet signal was quite good which was useful as this was our last homestay before flying back to Europe.
We can warmly recommend this homestay.

A great vacation! David is a responsible host and a pleasant person to talk to, just like his family! Everyone is polite and friendly. There is a delicious cuisine here: I have never seen such a variety of fish cooking options! There are excellent excursions here: along the Kabui lagoon with fantastic views from the mountains on the islands, to the ancient cemetery of local residents, to the village of Vaviyai, to the cave with bats. A wonderful tour of the tropical river to the birds of paradise!
Thank you for a wonderful stay, David!

Saya menginap 2 malam di Feey yef homestay, pengalaman saya sangat menyenangkan disana. David dan keluarganya sangat ramah(david and family so friendly) . David very helpfull and really want his guest has good experiance in kabui island. Masakan Istri david enak enak (his wife cook really good and delicious). Disana kita di ajak mengelilingi pulau kabui dgn boat baru nya yang sangat nyaman(he has good quality boat) . kita ke gua kelelawar(we went to paniki cave) , ke gua tengkorak(skull cave) , ke desa(walked on village) , mancing lobster(fishing lobster) dan kita di ajak melihat ratusan burung-burung kembali ke sangkarnya itu sangat mengesankan(we saw big flock of birds back to nest, it was amaizing). Homestay nya nyaman, dan air nya bersih karena dari mata air (cozy Homestay and they have fresh water from spring water) . Basic accomodation but good enough. Lingkungan yang sangat nyaman dan tenang.

My partner and I had a fabulous time here.
The homestay itself is perfectly located to explore the upper reaches of Kabui bay, it’s natural beauty and cultural wonders.
David was a great host who went to great effort to ensure that we had a good time. His wife is also a fantastic cook and each meal we got to eat healthy, yummy, traditional village food.
I would highly recommend this homestay for lovers of nature, culture and an insight into a rapidly disappearing way of life.

We spent 3 days and nights at Feey Yef. David, his family and their friend Amandus (hello, ombar!) were very kind, helpful and made our stay a perfect escape from touristic crowd. At remote and peaceful Feey Yef we could experience real Raja Ampat life in full harmony. Homestay facilities are very basic and that’s what we liked! Directly from a bungalow verandah we could jump into the water and watch small, but rich and nice coral garden.
Even if “English is not spoken” there, we understood very well eachother and our hosts always knew what we needed. We were introduced into the local culture and history and even have learnt some words in local language. David showed us the amazing and remote places in Kabui Bay (mysterious labirynths between karst islands with traces of ancient culture and mangrove rivers are definitely as much worth visiting as the Raja Ampat underwater world!).
And last but not least – at Feey Yef we had really great food (fresh mango, fried banana, amazing fish…).
We strongly recommend Feey Yef to everyone who wants to experience real Raja Ampat atmosphere. Thank you, dear Feey Yef Family!

We loved our stay with David. The Homestay was located in a beautiful isolated Bay with a small reef. We love swimming from the bay to the surrounding karst outcroppings. David was so kind he followed us in his boat to make sure we were safe. There is a lovely overlook across from the Homestay which we recommend visiting for a sunset. The facilities were excellent- good squat bathroom with fresh water and clean, comfortable bed. The food was the best we had during all of our time in Raja Ampat. David also took us around to see all of the spots of cultural significance including the cave which served as a burial spot and cliff drawings. This is an excellent, breezy spot to take in the karst island splendor and hear lovely jungle sounds. If you want beautiful open ocean views, sand and coral look elsewhere. This was one of our favorite spots because it was so unique. We recommend some working knowledge of Indonesian.
Thank you very much for your best comment. All the best to you

We stayed here for 2 nights on a kayak trip around Gam. A great isolated location giving us kayak access to the karst island in the northern part of Kabui Bay. The 2 rooms are over water with no access to the island, they are basic but clean with a deck area out front and an interesting “bathroom” where waste is piped to the edge of the island. The owner, David, was incredibly friendly and helpful, meals were provided by his wife from the nearby village and were fantastic, some of the best we had experienced. David also took us in his boat to the village where we met many of the friendly locals.
