Details
Erens Guest House is located just east of the Sauwandarek village jetty, on the south coast of Pulau Mansuar.
Two VIP bungalows (private bungalows with ensuite bathrooms) are available. The bungalows are on the beach and have unobstructed panoramic ocean views. All have glazed windows and doors.
All bungalow bedrooms have real beds, and extra mattresses can be provided if needed. Bedding includes sheets, pillows, bolsters and mosquito nets. The bungalow bedrooms have light switches, and power outlets are provided. All bungalows have covered verandahs with a table and chairs and excellent ocean views.
All bungalows have ensuite bathrooms with western style toilets and bucket bathing.
Meals are served in Erens’ dining room, and drinking water, and tea and coffee making supplies are provided free of charge there.
Electricity is supplied by generator, and is available from sunset to around midnight.
Only a weak signal is available at Erens, especially if it’s rainy. The best reception is out on the beach. WhatsApp will usually work, but you should be prepared to be offline at Sauwandarek.
Only a little English is spoken at Erens Guest House, so a phrasebook or a translation app will prove handy if you don’t speak Bahasa Indonesia.
As everywhere in Raja Ampat, only very basic supplies are available in village shops, and there is no way to properly dispose of inorganic waste at Sauwandarek.
To avoid contributing to the trashing of paradise, all homestays ask that you take all your inorganic trash away with you when you leave.
PLEASE NOTE: Sauwandarek is a Seventh Day Adventist community, and the village strictly observes the Sabbath on SATURDAYS.
This means that, with the exception of meal preparation and Waisai transfers for incoming and outgoing guests, no activities that require homestay staff to work are available on Saturdays.
No diving is available on Saturdays at Sauwandarek homestay dive centers.
Snorkelling, or sightseeing trips can only be provided on Saturdays by advance arrangement with your hosts. (Your hosts will organise a boat from another village for you.)
The Sauwandarek community also hope that you will help in their observance of the Sabbath by postponing all your private activities and quietly relaxing until noon, when church services finish.
Transport / Getting there
One way transfers between Waisai and Erens Guest House cost IDR 1,000,000 Transfers are by longboat which can carry up to 4 passengers, and the total cost is shared by passengers.

Activities
Erens Guest House has excellent snorkelling at the door. Easy access to the water is provided by the nearby village jetty, which also shelters large schools of fish and many colourful soft corals. Healthy coral reef stretches right along Mansuar's southern shore, where rich upwellings attract plenty of marine life.
When you need a break from the water and sun, Sauwandarek's wide sandy beaches and beachside trees provide plenty of shady places to relax with a good book.
Long hikes are available on Mansuar. Follow the path leads north from Sauwandarek, and you will pass by a lake in the center of the island, before coming to the north shore village of Yenbekwan, where more great snorkelling is available. From Yenbekwan, it's possible to follow a jungle path eastward, all the way to Yenbuba village on Mansuar's eastern tip. If you're really keen (and the tide is low), from Yenbuba you can cross the sandbanks to Kri. Erens Guest House can also provide snorkelling and sightseeing trips to anywhere you might like to go.
Do be aware that Sauwandarek village is of the Seventh Day Adventist faith, and that the day of rest there is Saturday. Apart from providing transport to Waisai if needed, your hosts will not be available for boat trips or other guided activities on Saturdays.

We have booked Erens Guest House for 6 nights in December and January. We had arranged pick up from Waisai two days before our stay, he came 90 minutes after the agreed time. Then he put our bags to the room and left. There was no information about anything. He just came back to tell us to pay the transfer. Communication was very difficult becaue nobody speaks English. Food was very basic and simple compared to the other homestays we have been. We booked Erens Guesthouse also for diving, but there is no reliable divecenter. We asked for diving and got the answer: “I can get you a tank.” How can they advertise diving if there is nothing? We think it’s not enough to built 2 huts on the beach and then think to make money.
We only stayed 4 nights and then moved to Warahnus Homestay, where it was great. But we had to pay those nights double. We wrote about this to Stay Raja Ampat but never got an answer.
Warning: the rats do not only go for food, they also like shirts and destroyed mine totaly.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your experience at Erens.
Erens no longer advertises diving, and hopefully your feedback will result in improvements in the other shortcomings you experienced.
We can not find any record of you reaching out to us about this at the time, so we are not sure what happened there. We have emailed you separately, and refunded you for the two nights you did not stay at Erens.

We stayed at Eren’s for four nights in January 2026. We had a really enjoyable time, and Gio was very responsive and kind! The Google translate feature was essential for our communication, for more detailed queries.
We haven’t stayed at any other homestays in Raja, so I’m unable to compare but the location was absolutely fantastic. We snorkelled twice a day, and I saw something new and different each and every time!
The food we got for breakfast, lunch and dinner was very consistent, traditional food.
We had some issues with a resident rat (we named him Steven) who kept trying to get to the snacks we had brought with us, but there really wasn’t much we, or anyone, could do about this except to hang the food from a bag on the roof.
We had occasional cell signal (telkomsel), but definitely couldn’t rely on needing signal for anything. We organised our transfer form Waisai and to our next site through Gio which was very efficient.
If you want a great view, great snorkelling, a true village experience, to support locals and don’t need luxury, then this is the place for you!

We stayed for four nights, the food was great and host was great taking us on a few snorkeling tours. Amazing snorkeling just outside your door. No wifi and limited cell signal but that was a plus for us.

We had a very mixed experience at Erens Guest House. I’ll try and keep it brief:
-The snorkeling and diving at Sauwandarek is excellent. Some of the best in Raja. I highly recommend coming here to visit, although I’m not sure I would stay in Sauwandarek village again.
-Erens did not have an on-site dive center when we visited. There is a hut with an air compressor and some gear, but during our visit no one was around to organize dives with. We were able to contact Gio (our host who was in Waisai for our entire stay), and he arranged for several freelance dive guides to take us diving, but these operations were ad hoc compared to a full-service dive center running regular dives, which is what we expected. These dives were also more expensive (600k) than at other homestays. If your goal is regular diving, I would not recommend staying with Erens or any homestay in Sauwandarek.
-We had no real point of contact on-site at Erens. We were able to sporadically text with Gio by Whatsapp, and he was responsive when we were able to get through, but with no wifi and no consistent mobile data it was touch-and-go. There were folks around who would help us, but very little English was spoken and we didn’t really know who was responsible for what.
4. The food was very inconsistent. The first morning we had–no joke–the best banana fritters I’ve ever had. Several of the meals were excellent. Two days later we were eating stale cookies for breakfast and then had no meat for a whole day. Separately to this, at first we had our meals in one restaurant, but then midway we were told to switch and take our meals somewhere else. Why? No idea.

My honest review about Erens homestay and Sauwandarek Dive Center (5 days, 6 nights)
PRO’s: ✅
– the location is perfect. The house reef is probably the best of Mansuar and maybe of all raja ampat. You can see giant turtles, sharks, … almost every time you go snorkelling. The village nearby is also very fun to interact with the locals.
– food is good. We never had the same dish twice, always plenty of food as well. They can cater easily to vegetarians as well.
– bungalow is basic but good enough for Raja Ampat standards. There’s definitely more fancy ones but they’re also more pricey.
CONS’s: ❌
Youre probably wondering why only 2 stars with the positives above…its because the cons really had a big impact on the quality of our stay.
– Communication with the host (Gio) is a complete disaster. You cannot rely on Gio for anything. He showed up 1,5 hour late for our snorkling trip which we arranged the day before. On the last day we booked the speedboat back to Wasai at 7am to catch our ferry, Gio was nowhere to be seen so we had to arrange last minute another speedboat the morning itself. Almost missed our ferry because of this. Apparently Gio was sleeping…its unacceptable to confirm something day before and simply not care to show up. Furthermore, attitude was very unpleasant. We understand there can be a language barrier, no problem. However, there was 0,00 interest in trying to help us with anything. We had a better relationship with the entire village than with him, strange as he is supposed to be the host. We received more help from other villagers or hosts than from him.
– dive centre is not a “real dive centre” but simply a limited dive equipment rental shop. There’s no proper guides to take you on dive trips. This is problematic as due to the raja ampat rules you are not allowed dive with other centres. This would be ok if this dive centre is actually reliable but its not. Guides are not capable of explaining any info about dives and safety procedures. Its only suitable if you are an expert diver who can dive 100% independently. We are Advanced open water with 60+ dives and had a really bad feeling about this dive centre. It should not be listed as a dive centre, it creates false expectations. If you try to explain that you dont feel comfortable and want to dive somewhere else the host will complicate things.
– there is no rat proof box to put food in. We triple wrapped our snacks and put it in the backpack but even then the rats made holes in the backpack and went through 3 layers
to get to the food. Be aware of this! (I dont blame the homestay for this, just be aware)
– no phone signal at all. This can be expected at Raja Ampat but just be aware you will have 0,0 signal. So if you need to look up any information online its not possible during your stay. As the host will also not give you any info, do all your research beforehand.
CONCLUSION 🙏:
– the home stay is suitable if you are only staying a few nights and dont need to book or arrange anything with the host. If thats the case, you can have a pleasant stay. If you want to dive or arrange anything via your homestay, you will have a hard time.

Staying at Eren’s Guest House was an unforgettable experience.
The location is perfect for anyone looking to explore both the ocean and the jungle — you can go scuba diving, snorkeling in crystal-clear waters, unwind on a peaceful beach, or even join jungle training adventures.
The food is homemade, fresh, and incredibly tasty — every meal felt like a treat. Gio, the owner, is truly kind, welcoming, and will help you organizing activities or arranging transport. He genuinely cares about making your stay as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
The homestay itself is simple but very comfortable, with a warm, authentic atmosphere and a spectacular view that you’ll never get tired of.
If you’re looking for a genuine, off-the-beaten-path experience with real hospitality, this is the place.
I would 100% recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

We stayed l for a couple of nights in August. They now have only couple of waterfront bungalows end we booked and pay It but was overbooked.
They tried to put us in a house at the back or in a bungalow with no toilet.
They gave us a buongalow of another homestay with a very broken toilet, no water, no shower.
But we paid for something else.
Food was good.
We’re sorry to hear of your experience at Erens, Benedetta, and wonder why you did not email us, or call the support number provided in your booking confirmation email when you discovered this problem.
If you had contacted us at the time, we would have found you suitable alternate accommodation, or refunded you in full for your stay.

We stayed for 4 nights at Erens Guest House. The bungalow was comfortable and clean with amazing sea views. The food was good and plentiful. There is good snorkelling from the door. We went on a boat trip to Cape Kri and Yenbuba Bay which was really good, with 2 excellent snorkelling sessions and a lovely beach picnic. We saw a lot of turtles here. We walked across the island past the lake to the North shore. From there, there is good snorkelling from a Jetty a little to the East. This would be difficult to access at high tide as the path goes along the beach at some places. There is also a large
homestay there with a bar that sells cold beer.

We stayed 4 nights in Eren’s homestay and enjoyed our bungalow with private bathroom right on the beach. Basic, but comfortable and amazing view with a long chair (bring your hammock!!!). Waves where crashing hard on the bungalow located on the beach during hight tide, so if you are sensitive to noise, be aware of it. And maybe you’ll prefere a piloti on water bungalow ?!
Food was delicious and the family super king ! My partner did many dives with Edy and Nuri and he really enjoyed their smiles and enthusiasm for the macro stuff. Some dives have more current… ask and respect your limits 🙂
I did rent a paddle board (ask the familly) and did snorkeling right on house reef. Beautifull reef, but pretty busy sometimes with liveabords.
You see giant turtles 🐢
Village is quiete, clean and sandy ! Felt grateful to see local life and share smiles with friendly people.

I stayed in Erens for a couple of nights end dec-beginning of January . They now have a couple of more waterfront bungalows.
First day was overbooked, they tried to put me in a house at the back but instead I chose to stay one night at Napoleons next door over the ocean Shared toilet and very simple but still nice. A jeans skirt got lost here though from the house , feels safe on the island but no locks and where visitors come and go you might expect a higher risk of such incidents. Next two days I stayed in the booked bungalow which was really nice and with own toilet in the house-great plus. Yes there are snakes, rats, mice here as in other places. Raja Ampat ockupants don’t always dispose of trash, you’ll find it in the ocean and on land as well unfortunately. My neighbour was awakened by both a snake and a rat in the house. Raja Ampat is nothing for the faint hearted anyway… Don’t keep food in your house, and watch where you are going and you’ll probably be fine. Don’t expect life jackets, bring your own if concerned. They have a couple of fans on the property -ask for one since it can be really warm at night. Comfortable matteresses and functioning mosquito net which is a must. Really good reef ! Easy to snorkel, with turtles, sharks, an abundance of fish, nice coral. Watch out for the currents as always in RA, I had a hard time swimming back at one time. Many liveaboards and boats are coming here for overday visits ,somewhat but not too disturbing -yet. Food was a disappointment, very simple, we bought eggs from the village shop just to avoid eating just cake for breakfast. Something happened to the chef.. always very late-like an hour waiting time was not unusual. Very simple meals, mistlur rice and vegetables but tasted well. Low degree of attention from owners. Not responding, maybe also a language issue. You may book tours through the village priest that speaks english. Loved the village life nearby, everyone is really friendly and nice and we had great luck to take part in the celebrations during new year which was fantastic. No alkohol on this island, bring your beer etc if you want. Also no jellyfish, maybe we were lucky -loads on Gam and nearby diving locations. (Bring wet suit) And if you find the way over to Yenbuba village and Jetty (difficult!) there is excellent underwater life there as well

Old and new bungalows with inside bathroom at the edge of Sauvandarek, an adventists’ village with little shops providing basics. A beautiful reef with lots of fish including sharks and turtles.

Erens feels like a badly run and poorly maintained mini resort (with a fair number of rats) rather than a homestay. They initially put me in a dirty house looking at the back sides of the beachfront bungalows (no sea view as advertised) with a seriously leaky roof. When it rained, they moved me to a beach front bungalow, (which, while not very clean either had a good layout and a fan, which is an obvious plus). The owner was difficult to get a hold of, and the food was not very good and sparse. In the water, coral abundance, loads of big fish and small fish, sharks, loads of turtles and some large giant clams. Also lots of snorkelers and divers, as this place is very popular. Nice if you want to have a break from solitude, but not really worth staying for longer than a day or two at Sauwandarek and I would not come back to Erens. I am still giving it 3 stars, because there is so much to see under the waves.

We spent 4 nights at Eren’s homestay. It was beautiful! Very comfortable clean rooms – good mattress. The meals and service were exceptional – delicious and plentiful. The family were warm and welcoming, very accommodating.
Unfortunately, there has been damage to the reef since we were at Sawandarek in 2018. Part of the jetty has collapsed and now there are many dive boats coming in every day and liveaboards anchored just out to sea. But it is still beautiful.
The village residents are friendly and respectful. The kids have a wonderful life with lots of playing in the sea and on the beach, soccer, volleyball. It’s great to see!

Hi, we can confirm the overbooking, we were 3 and have only 2 bungalows instead of the 3 booked. the second overwater bungalow was booked by another client three days before our arrival via booking . com and while we were in constant contact with Erens after receiving your message warning us of the usual overbooking. But the overwater bungalow was nice and the food was good, ,and underwater scenery wonderful.

– The strong point: located right next to the famous snorkeling and diving spot at the end of the Sauwandarek pier, with a multitude of fishes, turtles
– beautiful coral just ahead
– comfortable bungalow: bed, private bathroom and toilet, terrace overlooking the sea
– Abundant and varied food
– Ask Gio to take you on a 20-minute boat ride to swim among black tip sharks (vegetarians!).

We stayed in a beautiful bungalow on the sea with private bathroom.
Food was very good and abundant!
The reef in front of the homestay is incredible, one of the best of Raja Ampat.
We saw lots of sharks, turtles and big fishes while we did snorkeling.
Absolutely a good homestay!

We stayed there for about one week. Highly recommend to stay here.
Pros:
– 3x meals per day which are sooo tasty and diverse (vegetarian, chicken, fish, desserts, coffee, tea). You get to know other guests as you eat together. Nice social aspect.
– Boat tours to snorkel, dive shops and geosites (e.g. Pianemo) can be arranged
– House reef is beautiful and full of coral, fish, turtles etc.
– Bungalows are basic but have own bathrooms and hammocks.
Cons:
– Host family were a bit shy in the beginning but after some days got more and more welcoming and super friendly 😁. Maybe because their English is not the best. But I noticed they are trying to improve their English.

Erens Guest House is a very good Choice for staying in Raja Ampat. The Bungalows are very comfortable with good mattrass and pillows. The bungalows also included a bathroom with western toilet and shower. The terrace ist big and has a good view over the ocean.
The food is very very tasty and various. We got chicken, fish and vegetarian dishes with very tasty sauces.
The housereef is probably one of the best in Raja Ampat. Big fish, sharks and huge turtles are guaranteed. The corals are also healthy.
Erens can not speak English very well but if you use translator, he will organize you great trips for example to piaynemo for a very good price. He also offers diving trips.
The family is nice and friendly but can not speak English.
Erens Guesthouse is way more comfortable than most other Homestay in Raja Ampat. Absolutely a 5 Stars vote.

Erens is a lovely Homestay overlooking the ocean, next to the jetty of Sawandarek which is fantastic snorkeling/diving. The Homestay is clean with private bathroom. The food was fresh and tasty.

We stayed at this wonderful homestay in Dec 2020. The bungalow was spacious, clean and right on the water. There was a real bed and even some tables and a small wardrobe, best of all there was an ensuite bathroom! There are hammocks and chairs on the veranda which has beautiful views of the sunrise. The food was very good and plentiful. There was usually fresh fruit and a good variety of dishes. The family was honest and helpful and happy to arrange an excellent day trip. The reef in front of the bungalow is very good with beautiful coral and lots of fish. Sawandarek village and jetty are right next door. There is very little internet connection but it is possible to hike up toward the lake and get a signal there. We stayed here for a week and would definitely stay here again. This homestay was a step above most others we saw. They actually had someone meet us in Sorong who took us to a penginapan for a rest while he went and got us tickets for the ferry then took us to the ferry which was very helpful and nice as we had flown late at night and were tired. All in all, we had an excellent experience with this homestay.

I made a booking for 10 nights in January 2020 via stayrajaampat.com and communicated via whats app well before my arrival. When I finally arrived both beach bungalows were occupied and not available. I was offered a bungalow on the 2nd row without seaview. This was not the type of bungalow I did make a reservation for and therefore I did not accept it. Instead I coontacted the Stay Raja Ampat. In the end I got my money back and the guesthouse was blocked for 3 months. Of xourse my transport costs for coming from Arborek to Mansuar were not refunded.
BEWARE OF OVERBOOKING!!!!!

Erens Homestay was by far our favourite in Raja Ampat. First of all Erens is a wonderful and honest boy who has a big smile on his face at all times. His homestay is very new. The two waterfront bungalows were built just a few months ago. The bungalows are very big, have a wonderful ensuite bathroom, a comfortable bed with mosquito net and other small details like a mirror, plenty of sockets for charging your devices, a wardrobe, a table and two chairs. The two bungalows share the same porch but offer enough privacy. There is a table, two chairs and a hammock in front of every room. Did we mention that the coral reef in front is probably the best in all of Raja Ampat? Full of white tipped sharks, turtles, dolphins and millions and millions of other amazing life.
The food they prepared every day was delicious and plentiful. Lots of variety too. Drinking water, tea and coffee are available for free at all times.
When we wanted to go snorkelling at the reef at Kri island Erens organised a boat for us immediately and even joined us. He only charged us for the gasoline. Also, on the day we had to leave to catch the ferry in Waisai he organised a boat for us for a very fair price and one of the people to accompany us was his brother Eddie, who was extremely nice too and insisted on coming with us to the ticket office to make sure everything was taken care of.
All in all, we were very impressed by the high standards of Erens Homestay and especially appreciated their honesty and genuine kindness. We will be back to this magical place!

Hello 😊
I would like to make a reservation, but I have just one question..
Is this homestay new accommodation on the island? I therefore ask that it has no rating. Were there any guests at the accommodation?
Hello Hannalore
Yes – Erens Homestay is relatively new and, unfortunately, none of the guests who have stayed there so far have left reviews. On the upside, in our experience, that means that nobody has had any complaints!
Thank you for answer.
One more question please, do they have a diving center?
No, if Erens had a dive center, it would be mentioned above in both the Features and Activities sections.
You can quickly find homestays with on-site dive centers by applying the accommodation page Activities search filter “On site dive center”.
