Coconut Homestay offers four private bungalows on one of Pulau Gam’s best beaches.
All bungalow bedrooms have raised double beds. Covers, pillows and mosquito nets are supplied. Bedding for a third person can be provided if needed. Power outlets and room light switches are fitted.
Bungalow verandahs have panoramic ocean views, and are equipped with chairs and table.
Guests share two two-room bathroom buildings. Each building houses a western style toilet and shower in separate rooms.
Meals are served at Coconut Homestay’s beachside dining shelter. Drinking water, tea and coffee are always available there.
Coconut Homestay receives a medium strength 4G cell phone signal. A slow internet connection is usually available.
Electricity is supplied by a generator, which operates between sunset and midnight.
Basic supplies are available at Friwen village, which is about fifteen minutes away by boat.
Only a little English is spoken at Coconut Homestay. Bringing a phrasebook or translation app will ease communication.
Rubbish disposal is a problem everywhere in Raja Ampat. Please take all inorganic trash like plastic and dead batteries away with you when you leave.
Transport / Getting there
Transfers between Waisai and Coconut Homestay cost IDR 600,000 each way. The transfer price is shared by passengers. The boat used can carry up to 4 people.

Activities
Snorkelling and sightseeing
Be sure to bring snorkelling gear! Coconut Homestay's fabulous beach is calm and perfect for children. The beach provides easy access to the water. As you move away from the beach, isolated coral outcrops eventually unite to form the reef proper. Beware of tidal currents if you venture as far out as the dropoff.
At low tide long beachwalks are possible. Cockatoos, parrots and ground dwelling mound building birds known locally as maleo can also be seen nearby.
Your hosts can organise snorkelling and sightseeing tours to anywhere you want to go.
Diving
Coconut Homestay can arrange diving at neighbouring Corepen and/or Kordiris dive centers.

I loved my stay at Coconut. Fish curry and chicken was a highlight. The huts on the beach are charming and comfortable… exactly what you want on a beautiful remote island. Aldy the owner was such a help with getting to and from Waisai
We had an amazing stay at Coconut, the food is delicious, the beds are comfy and the view is awesome! Aldy and his family are lovely. The location is great, right in between two dive centres (Corpean and Tarzan) and there is a walk to a viewpoint nearby, you can also snorkel right off the beach, we saw sharks, turtles and lots of fish! Although the coral is super damaged, definitely in need of some restoration here. But couldnt recomend this homestay enough!

The location is awesome, nestled in a small coconut tree grove, with a fantastic beach in front, and a wall of jungle in the back. Right in front is a small (maybe 10m wide) sandy gap in the reef that makes water access easy and allows for swimming even at low tide. The reef is not that great by Raja Ampat standards, and I found the best snorkelling to the left of the Tarzan dive jetty (pay attention to the currents there). My hut was very nice, with a raised bed, fan, and a nice balcony with a hammock.
Food was good for lunch and dinner, but poor for breakfast. I stayed 5 nights, and on 2 mornings, there was white bread with the indonesian version of Nutella only, on 2 mornings there were also fried bananas, and on the last morning they were out of “Nutella” and all that was available was plain white bread and a few pieces of jackfruit.
Most of the time I was there, the homestay was run by 2 very friendly young ladies, but communication was very difficult, even with a translator app. The owner or manager (the guy in the pics) was absent most of the time I was there. I never met the English speaking Mr Romy that is mentioned in other reviews. This homestay didn’t seem to have any interest in providing any trips, they never asked me about it nor was there a board posted with available trips listed as was common in other homestays. Since communication was so difficult, I arranged a bird of paradise viewing trip directly with a guide that the Corepen dive center pointed me to. All guests, inclding me, were there mostly to go diving with one of the 2 adjacent dive centers. For that it was great, although in that case I would first try to book the homestays that are associated with the dive centers (they are usually fully booked far more in advance, and that is how I and other guests ended up at Coconut homestay).

Very nice homestay. The bungalow was clean, confortable bed, mosquito net, 2 hammocks and the best view ever.
The 3 meals a day were traditional and very tasty.
Clean shared bathroom with one toilet and one shower.
From the beach you have gorgeous corals, fish and beautiful squid around the corepen jetty.
For divers this homestay is 3min away from 2 dive centers both great.
Thank you again for this perfect getaway in paradise !

I had a very nice stay in coconut. I had one of the new Bungalows, which are much more comfortable than the old one. Food ist great, plentiful and with good variety. Romy is a very good host, his English is excellent and the Indonesian History and politics lessons very interesting. Thanks a lot! Snorquelling and Diving at the House Reef is nice, good chance to see wobbegongs.

Our stay in Coconut Homestay was fine.
The accommodation is simple and offers an immersive experience in nature, bringing guests close to the local environment and wildlife in every sense, in a positive and negative sense.
The food was abundant, varied, and full of flavor, providing a delicious taste of local cuisine with generous portions.
This homestay stands out because of Mr. Romy, who genuinely cares about the guests. He speaks English, organizes everything, listens to guests’ requests, and oversees the entire operation.
Without him, it would be challenging for the homestay to retain guests.

We stayed 6 days at Coconut and it was really perfect. Our host Romy -Who speaks English fluently- did his upmost best to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Whether it was organizing tours for us or taking us to some nice places or even bringing us some afternoon snacks at our terrace (room service!). When one of us got a little sick he checked upon as frequently as well. Also they changed our matress which was quite old and thin to a much thicker one.
The food was really really great. They changed the cook right before our stay. It was very varied with a lot of vegetables, fish/meat and fresh fruits. We even received afternoon snacks like cake or fried banana many times.
We haven’t met the owner so I cannot say anything about him. And apparently they change the cook quite sometimes so I guess we were very lucky with the lovely lady (and her nice husband and children) this time.
Big thank you to all the lovely staff, we hope to be back again (if Romy is not stolen by another homestay)!

I was five days at Coconut homestay and it was lovely. The homestay is pretty basic but the location is incredible and the quietness of the place was really a plus. Romy, was the best host I had during my stay in three islands in Raja Ampat. He was always helpful and trying to make your stay the most confortable one. He has a very interesting conversation and you can learn lots of things from him. For me it was the soul of Coconut’s. It’s worthwhile to stay there just to share time with him. The food was very good, nice quantity and very tasty.

Why I Don’t Recommend Coconut Homestay
I stayed at Coconut Homestay for three nights, and unfortunately, I cannot recommend it—especially with much better options like Corepen Dive Homestay nearby. Here’s why:
Disappointing Food:
*The meals were repetitive (exactly the same every day) and lacked variety.
*While the food was decent, the portions were small and left us unsatisfied.
Money-Driven Management:
* The manager seemed overly focused on making money from guests.
* Whether it was organizing outings or even buying beer, the charges felt excessive and dishonest.
While Coconut Homestay has potential, the lack of effort in hospitality and the focus on profit over guest experience left us disappointed. For a better stay in the area, I highly recommend Corepen Dive Homestay next door instead—it offers a far superior experience.

We stayed at Coconut Homestay from 13th – 22nd December 2024. Basic hut style accommodation provided for all the guests with outside toilets & shower. The room was spacious with double bed & mosquito net over it. The bed sheet and pillow cases definitely need to be changed on regular basis as they were giving a smelly odour. You’ll also find in the room a power outlet to charge the batteries & phones as well. We’d definitely welcome a small table inside of the room for extra space for our luggage. The outside terrace was also spacious enough, nicely decorated with sea shells, hammock, plastic chairs & line to dry your clothes.
Outdoor toilet was western style which was basic but always clean and the shower room was nice as well.
When it comes to food, we had some issues during our stay where the food wasn’t served/prepared at certain times which wasn’t acceptable as we were diving and that resulted in missing the meals. As this homestay isn’t partnered with any dive schools (Tarzan or Corepen), they don’t align the meal timings according to the dive timings so you might miss out on some food, especially when other non divers are being served. We addressed the issue with the owner right away but due to his no English language knowledge, it was very difficult to discuss. Another little disappointment was the food itself. Having fried bananas ONLY for breakfast for 10 days straight wasn’t really great & eating overcooked tuna on daily basis wasn’t enjoyable. Simple toast with some butter and jam would be substantial.
The only reason why everything runs smoothly in this homestay is Mr. Romy who actually cares about this place! He speaks English, organize everything, makes sure guests are happy, he listens to the guests inquiries and manages the whole organisation of this homestay. He is the point of contact from beginning until the end. Without him, this homestay would have difficulties to keep the guests.

Good homestay with a nice beach and close to good dive centers as tarzan divings.
Romy is very nice and arranged nice day trips for us.

Deserves More Than 6 Stars!
Our stay at Coconut Homestay was simply unforgettable. The bungalows are simple yet very spacious and cozy. The toilets and showers are basic but always clean, and the food is delicious and always plentiful.
A special highlight was the team on site. All the staff are incredibly warm-hearted. Romy, the manager, is always present, speaks excellent English, and is very organized. He takes care of everything immediately.
Aleda, the cook, is like a loving mother to all guests. At every meal, she personally goes to each bungalow to let everyone know that the food is ready. Our “kitchen party” with her remains unforgettable.
Her son takes care of all the handyman work, boat transfers, and even catches the fish for dinner.
We left with more than one tear in our eyes. Coconut Homestay has deeply embedded itself in our hearts.

The place is paradise! I had an amazing stay at Coconut Homestay. The bungalow was beautiful, with a large, comfy bed and a hammock overlooking a stunning view. Just three steps away was a beach with a coral reef where I snorkeled daily, spotting turtles, barracudas, and even a small shark. Two dive centers were only a 2-minute walk away.
The food was fresh, delicious, and varied, and the family was very kind, adjusting meal times to fit my diving schedule. Basic communication was easy with Google Translate, and the Telekomsel SIM card I used provided excellent signal.
I was also lucky to meet Romy, who was working there and spoke native English, picked me up from Waisai, and shared fascinating insights about Raja Ampat and Indonesia. Thank you, Coconut family and Romy!

I stayed 5 nights and everything was really good. The family is welcoming and kind. All the dishes are various and yummy. The place of the homestay is perfect : in front of the room is the possibility to go snorkeling, nearby two dive centers and a huge mangrove. Just amazing !

I’ve been at Coconut homestay for about a week and everything was very good.
I met the owner that unfortunately didn’t speak much english, but the manager El was great, so gentle, funny and super available for everything you need! Nice bungalows and the food he cooked was just great. I hope to see you someday.
