Coco Huts Homestay is at Yef Kabu, a small sand cay in the heart of West Waigeo’s Meos Manggara islands.

Coco Huts Homestay’s four private beach bungalows are located on Yef Kabu’s southern shore. The two smaller bungalows sleep a maximum of three guests on mattresses on the floor.

The large private bungalows can accommodate four guests.

The bungalow verandahs are over-water at high tide, and all have panoramic ocean views.

Bedding in all bungalows includes sheets, pillows, bolsters and mosquito nets. Bungalow verandahs have a table, chairs and ocean views.

Meals are served in Coco Hut’s beach dining room. Free drinking water, tea and coffee making supplies are always available there for guests.

Guests share a 2 room bathroom building. A western style toilet occupies one room. Bucket bathing is provided in the other.

Electricity is provided by generator and is available from sunset to about midnight. A variable 4G phone signal is received at Helda Homestay. Note that a data connection may not always be possible.

Mutus village is about a ten minute boat ride away. Basic supplies are available from village kiosks there. (Any supplies you consider essential should be brought with you.)

Only a little English is spoken at Coco Huts Homestay. Bringing an offline translation app or phrasebook will help with communication.

To avoid contributing to the trashing of paradise, all homestays ask that you please take all your inorganic (especially plastic) waste away with you when you leave.

Transport / Getting there

See Coco Huts' September 2025 transfer and trip pricelist for Waisai and other transfer prices

Reaching West Waigeo is not cheap, but the remote region’s unique attractions and wild nature justify the expense. You’ll also see a lot of Raja Ampat on the way, including Kabui Bay and the famed Kabui Passage.

Read more about Raja Ampat boat transport prices here.

Activities

Coco Huts Homestay can provide snorkelling and boat trips to any of the region's attractions.

See Coco Huts' September 2025 transfer and trip pricelist for some popular offerings. (Bring your own snorkelling equipment.)

February 2025: Aljui Bay trips are also available at a cost of IDR 2,000,000 (Trip price shared by up to 3 passengers max)

Yef Kabu is a tiny, flat, sand cay in the middle of the West Waigeo's Meos Manggara Islands.

One long, white beach encloses two square kilometres of coconut palms, casuarina and ketapang trees that makes a perfect quiet hideaway and base for exploring some of the best reefs in Raja Ampat.

The beach at Coco Huts provides easy access to the water, but it's a bit of a swim over sand with coral outcrops before you reach the island's fringing reef.

Because of the region’s remoteness, West Waigeo’s reefs are pristine, rich and untrammelled by day tripping boats from Sorong and Waisai. Fabulous snorkelling is available in the area and it’s most likely that you will be the only people in the water. Mantas congregate at Pulau Yefnabi and several other  locations in the islands. They can even be found there between June and September, when they are usually absent from the better known Dampier Strait sites of Manta Point and Manta Sandy.

Apart from the excellent snorkelling and mantas, the West Waigeo Islands offer sights like “Pasir Timbul” – a stretch of pristine white sand that emerges from the ocean with every low tide. A visit to Aljui Bay is highly recommended, and provides the opportunity to see ancient rock art galleries, a large commercial pearl farm, secret lagoons, cultural sites and spectacular scenery.

Enorm genoten.

  • We stayed 2 nights in coco hut homestay in February 2026. The homestay is really nice, basic, but clean. You have everything you need. The location is nice, you can do snorkeling trips. We did it with our guide, but talking to other travellers we got an impression that guys from homestay know area very well and take you to nice spots.
Food was good. Breakfast is super basic, which is usually the case in Raja Ampat. So take some snacks with you 🙂
Friendly reminder: Also take bio cosmetics with you, not only a sunscrean, but also shower gel, tooth paste and whatever else you need.

  • Stay: Oktober 2025
Food: Nice fresh and rich indonesian food. Breakfast, Lunch, Snack, Dinner. Coconuts available.
Things to do: Manta Point and Snorkeling Trips. But the housreef directly in Front of the homestay was much better than on the trips. Nice corals, sharks, turtles and lobster visible. We have been to Mantapoint twice but only saw one once. Probably very dependent on weather and waves. Beware of stinging jellyfish at the Manta Point. We also had the opportunity to see big coconut crabs if you ask them.

Facilities: Beautiful cottage with hammock and lounger directly on the water. only one mattress on the floor (as advertised) in the room, no shelves for storage. But possibilities to hang things if you have hoes with you. Very nice and clean shared bathroom.

  • We stayed for 4 days at Coco Huts in January 2026 and to say we loved it was an understatement.

Vence speaks great english, and his family were so kind, making us feel super at home and welcome. They took us out snorkelling to some incredible reefs, untouched and full of life – we saw turtles, sharks, dolphins and more. Food was great, fresh fish caught every day and coconuts hand picked from the trees for snack. In the evening the family sang and danced to traditional papuan songs, encouraging us to join in – it was an incredible experience like no other!

The huts were clean and well maintained, beds comfy and we loved spending the afternoons in the hammock and deckchair, after a morning of exploring!

We couldn’t recommend Coco Huts enough, a huge thank you to Vence and his family for everything – it’s a slice of paradise that we feel very lucky to have experienced!

  • It’s a great island but be warned – while there are four beach bungalows listed at Cocohuts, there is also an inferior 5th room that they may force you to stay in.

This extra room is a partitioned off section of the communal eating area. It has no light and one window overlooking the kitchen. It is not shown in any photos – I understand it is new.

We booked one of the beach bungalows. When we arrived, they told us they were full so we had to stay in this 5th room. Instead we decided to stay at a different homestay on the island. It was not the fault of any staff on site – rather apparently the owner who seems to live somewhere else.

Disappointing. But we had a great time at a different homestay only 200m from Cocohuts.

    • We’re sorry to hear of this failure at Coco Huts, Alex.

We guarantee that guests booking on our platform will get the room type that they paid for, and we provide responsive support contacts in the event of any problems, so we are surprised that your review is the first we have heard of this.

If you had contacted us when you discovered the problem, we would have refunded you in full. Hopefully that wasn’t necessary because Coco Huts appropriately compensated you.

Děkujeme a určitě nezapomeneme.

  • We spent five wonderful days at Coco Huts Homestay, a place that offered us tranquility, beauty, and a genuine immersion in nature.
The reef surrounding the island is extraordinary—full of life, colors, and incredible variety. The snorkeling trips were excellent, thanks to a knowledgeable and attentive captain and guide, always ready to tailor the experience to our wishes. The entire staff, together with the family managing the homestay, was exceptionally kind, helpful, and truly caring toward both the island and its guests.

The food was a pleasant surprise: tasty, varied, and always prepared with great attention.

The location of the homestay is truly privileged, perfect for enjoying both sunrise and sunset, with views that will stay with us for a long time.
Our bungalow was spacious and welcoming, featuring a comfortable floor mattress and a large mosquito net. On the deck, a hammock and a lounge chair offered the ideal spot to relax and embrace the peaceful rhythm of the island.

A stay we will remember with great pleasure.

  • It was great, we had a very lovely stay. The people were wonderful, the food was always delicious, and Vence was really nice and took us on great excursions.

  • 🌴 Cocoa Huts Homestay – Raja Ampat 🌴

The island is absolutely beautiful! There isn’t a direct sandy beach right in front of Cocoa Huts to swim from, as it’s surrounded by coral reefs. However, on the other side of the island, there’s a lovely beach where you can go straight into the water and snorkel directly from the shore — it’s definitely worth the short walk.

The family who manages Cocoa Huts Homestay is extremely friendly and truly wonderful. They make you feel at home from the moment you arrive. The food they prepare — breakfast, lunch, and dinner — was absolutely amazing every single time.

If you enjoy simple, authentic island life, this is the right place for you. The accommodation is basic, as is normal in this region — a clean mattress on the floor, no luxury, but perfectly in line with the real Raja Ampat experience.

A big thank you to the whole Cocoa Huts Homestay team for making our stay so memorable! 🌺

  • We had a fantastic stay with our kids at Coco Huts! Very attentive and friendly host & family, great food, amazing location, magical manta’s close by, … a gem!

  • We stayed at Coco Hut for three days and easily could have stayed longer. Travelling with our two kids, we loved how they played so happily with the homestay family’s children — despite speaking very little English, they connected through endless games of soccer and hours of swimming. The food was delicious, and on our last day they even baked a cake for our son, which was such a thoughtful touch. We highly recommend Coco Hut, especially for families!

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Coco Huts. Oscar and his family are very friendly and helpful. They only speak little English and Indonesian, Papua is their main language. So Google Translate was helpful. Or they called the owner to translate. Ask them to teach you some Papua words! 🙂

The hut is very clean and comfortable. The fan at night is really nice. The toilet and shower were always clean and had enough water to flush and rinse yourself.

The food at Coco Huts is amazing! Everything was very tasty and spicy but not too spicy.

A great place to stay if you’re interested in visiting Wayag, the bay and see Mantas!

  • Our stay at Coco Huts Homestay was incredible.

We were the only travelers during our stay and were warmly welcomed in excellent English by our friend Vence.

The small family living on the island was very friendly, and we had the chance to share a drink with the locals in the evening, singing both local and international songs.

The food was by far the best we had during our time in Raja Ampat.

They took us to discover Wayag as well as their nearby island, Mutus. It was an amazing experience.

    Thank you to everyone!

  • A magical place run by a wonderful family! Nice clean over water huts – really appreciated the fan on all night! Clean bathrooms and ‘shower’ with water always present. The food was excellent, varied and plentiful! Vence, my guide, was extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. He helped me from start to finish. From meeting me in Sorong; to catching the ferry to Waisai and getting a hotel for the night; to guiding all day trips from Coco Huts; and even making sure I got some camera equipment back to me (on another island!) after I had forgotten it in the hut. He’s a kind, friendly and generous young man; he made my stay one of the best experiences in my life!
You cannot go wrong staying with this family at this Homestay. It’s an amazing little piece of paradise located in an ideal spot with many attractions nearby. Their prices for trips I felt were very fair — especially when I compared them to some other homestays. The house reef is good out about 100m from shore, and there is an excellent reef a short walk to the other side of the island. I stayed 4 nights and I could easily have stayed twice that!
Come here and you will be well taken care of and you will have a most amazing experience!

  • I stayed in Coco huts for 3 days and I wish I’ve could have stayed longer.

Hut is nice and clean, you have fan inside and electricity runs from sunset till the morning.
Signal is weak or non existing but when you’re in a place like this, you don’t really need it, you can just enjoy the sunsets from your terrace.

Bathroom was also clean, buckets were always filled with water and there was toilet paper and soap.

Food was delicious, lots of fruit!

House reef actually goes all around the island so you can snorkel for hours.
In low tide you can also walk around the island (sandy beach) and there is a path through the jungle as well.

Family is very friendly and helpful and in the evenings, they would play a traditional music for us, which was really nice.

  • We stayed 4 nights at Coco Huts, and it was absolutely wonderful. This is the perfect place if you’re looking for a relaxing getaway with stunning natural beauty and warm hospitality.

The family running Coco Huts was incredibly kind and made us feel at home. The food was amazing—every meal felt like a feast, and the afternoon snacks and fresh coconuts were such a treat. The house reef was simply spectacular, with vibrant coral and plenty of marine life to discover just a few steps from the hut. And the sunsets? Unreal. Each evening felt like a painting come to life.

One of the highlights of our stay was how well they handled activities and logistics. We went on several snorkeling trips (saw many mantas) and a memorable excursion to Wayag. They really know how to navigate the waters, even in challenging conditions, and ensured that we had safe and enjoyable experiences. They also arranged the transfers seamlessly, allowing us to snorkel at a few spots along the way, which was such a thoughtful touch.

The hut itself was nice and clean, with a fan that kept us cool throughout the full night as electricity runs from 6pm-6am. We really enjoyed the new sunbeds. With limited internet connection, Coco Huts is the best place to disconnect from the world and truly relax.

If you’re looking for an authentic, laid-back escape with amazing snorkeling and a warm, welcoming vibe, Coco Huts is the place to go!

  • We adored our stay at Coco Huts.
Be prepared (with water, sunscreen, etc.) for a 2.5-3 hour boat ride from Waisai. But it is a very pleasant and beautiful trip.
The island is like it’s from a movie. The part where you’ll live is really tidy. And many things are well thought after. We never had a need for food. And I must mention, our cooks were extraordinary.
A family will live near your bungalow, but far enough to give you privacy. We were happy that we could always rely on them for anything. They don’t speak much English, but we could understand each other. And yes, everybody was super attentive and polite.
It is mesmerizing to see the wildlife from your deck and the ebb and flow of the ocean. We could spend hours just watching life happen. And what others mentioned: the sunset is out of this world.
We do envy the people who are yet to book their stay with Coco Huts.

  • We were really positively surprised by the friendlyness of the Coco huts staff, the quality of food they prepared for us and generally by the great vibe during our stay there. The sunsets from the huts are magical. We really enjoyed our stay there 10/10!
