Details
Brar Homestay is located in a beautiful sandy cove at the eastern end of Kri and offers five private bungalows, each of which will sleep three people.
The bungalows are at the high water mark on the beach, are shaded by overhanging trees and have fabulous ocean views to Gam and Waigeo. Each bungalow has a covered verandah with chairs or bench seating. Bungalow bedrooms are equipped with a double and a single mattress, and all have sheets, pillows, bolsters and mosquito nets supplied. A room light switch and power outlets are also available in each bungalow bedroom.
Brar Homestay’s dining room is also located on the beach and enjoys the same great sea views. The large dining room table and bench seating provide an alternative to your bungalow verandah for relaxation and free drinking water, tea and coffee are always available there.
All guests share a two room bathroom building which has pebbled floors, a dip mandi bathroom and a western style toilet in the second room.
Electricity for charging your devices is available from sunset to midnight. Brar Homestay receives a 4G signal from the nearby Yenbuba tower.
The nearest village to Brar Homestay is Yenbuba on Mansuar and basic supplies are available there. It’s best to bring all essential items with you. Please though – take all your inorganic trash away with you: If you leave it at Kri you’ll just contribute to the rubbishing of paradise.
Only a little English is spoken at Brar Homestay, so if you have no Bahasa Indonesia, bringing a phrasebook would be a good idea.
Transport / Getting there
Transfers between the Brar Homestay and Waisai are by longboat, and cost IDR 800,000, shared by passengers (max. 5)

Hiking and beach walking
In addition to the jungle paths that lead to the panoramic views from Kri's heights, long hikes can be made at low tide. You can walk the whole north shore of Kri, cross the sandbanks to Ransiwor and/or Yenbuba at Mansuar, and then continue west along Mansuar, cross the island past a lake and finish in Sauwandarek village on Mansuar's south coast, where there's also excellent snorkelling. If you like the sound of that, you'll need a day with a morning low tide and to arrange a pickup from Sauwandarek!

Best place in Kri ! Josy do ammazing food!
5 star for this place! Always clean and amazing host.
Terimakasih!
Brar is a simple accommodation but you have a 5 stars hostess. The best place in Kri
Good food nice hostess helpful people. Quite for kri measures
It was an incredible pleasure staying with Josie and her family.
The place is quiet, everything is clean, the bungalows are very simple but very cozy, the mattresses are comfortable for sleeping, and the mosquito net is durable and seamless.
I especially want to mention the food: it was incredibly delicious, something new every day, so delicious that my husband, who doesn’t usually eat fish, ate it with pleasure. Breakfasts were also varied, mostly carbohydrates, but we went snorkeling every day, so the carbohydrates were quickly used up. The only thing I really wanted was eggs for breakfast, but I understand that this is an island and that’s difficult.
This homestay has one toilet and one room for washing, but even though there were eight of us, there were never any problems with waiting or queuing.
Thanks to Josie for arranging excursions and snorkeling for us every day; we saw so many interesting things from the underwater world of Raja Ampat; I haven’t seen such a variety anywhere!
The only thing that occasionally bothered me was the barking dogs, there are quite a lot of them along this coast
Basic and nice bungalow, good food and a really kind and helpful staff. Really good reef just in the front. the signal from Telkomsel was not good but sometimes worked. local style shower and European toilet, these are the only things I’d improve but it’s still ok for their rates.

Excellent homestay. The food was delicious Indonesian home-cooked with lots of variety. Josie, the primary host, speaks English quite well and is helpful when accommodating requests for daytrips. Hut is basic, yet comfortable and clean. Snorkling straight out from the beach there is excellent, and if you like to walk/hike, that’s nearby too. We highly recommend this homestay. Remember to bring your snorkling gear.

I highly recommend this homestay.
– Very pleasant and welcoming place to stay.
– Exceptional location: white sandy beach (clean!) and memorable snorkelling.
– The manager understands English well, is always present and works non-stop to maintain the premises.
– Well-prepared meals.
– Electricity in the rooms from 6 p.m. to midnight.
Very few negative points:
– Rats…
– Limited internet access.

Very nice stay in Brar Homestay ! A big up for the food that was DELICIOUS the best in Raja Ampat so far. The room are basic but very clean – towels were smelling the laundry soap ect. They don’t really speak English but we’ve always found a way to organized trip and so on. (For people that hates small animals there is some rats- around on the island – but as long as you don’t leave any food in your room it’s fine.)

We loved Brar Homestay
Beautiful place at the north coast
Possible to reach cape kri from there (sharks, zebra sharks, turtles, lots of fish)
The lady was very kind, she had quite good english knowledge and helped with all kinds of problems (giving us rice for drying our phones, organizing a ride back to Waisai to get stuff from pharmacy for a very good price)
The food was absolutely amazing – while that’s true for all the Homestays on kri, there was no place where we got food this good ( amazing curries, lemongrass ginger spiced fish and chicken) and much! There was more food than even 4 people could have eaten just for the two of us. (But we were alone)
Mattress on the floor but big and comfortable
Mosquito net really nice (Baldachin style so doesn’t touch you and mosquitos can’t sting through)
No problems with any rats
Reef here is the best on the north side – also amazing further down west and at cape kri but these are all reachable by foot so no problem snorkeling all the amazing places on kri

We had a very nice time at Brar Homestay. We had a lot of tasty food, nice people around and a good snorkeling reef in front of the bungalow. A good thing is, that you can go very far at the beach to experience Kri island for yourself.
Thanks for everything 🙂

We had a wonderful stay in this little paradise.
Josy is such a great host, she took really good care of us. The food is excellent and generous. The place is very clean.
The location is perfect for snorkeling. Thanks to Papy and Arnek to have taken us out snorkeling on their boat.
We can only recommend it, an authentic place well maintained !

Great stay, Josie is an amazing host, taking really good care of us. Food was plenty and varied, we got chicken every other meal, otherwise fish with lots of side dishes. We had fruits all the time, and a large, tasty breakfast.
The location is good as well, really close to Cape Kri which is good for snorkelling. To get to the other side of the island you need a boat, which should cost around 100k.
Overall would strongly recommend this place, will be definitely come back to Josie and her Brar Homestay 🙂

It is basic but clean. Keep in mind that there are small rats on Kri Island (but this is the same for every homestay). The staff speak very little English but they were really helpful when we were sick and organized some medicine for us. The food was nice and there was plenty. While we were there there was no rubbish at all at the beach (while on the other side of Kri there was a lot) and it was really nice for snorkeling (best at the pier of Kri Eco Resort – its private but you can just go in from the beach and swim there)
We hope that we can come visit again 😃

We, a family of five with three children (10, 8 and 5) had a lovely stay at Brar.
The reef in front of the hut is stunning and we saw lots of wildlife, sharks, turtles lots of fishes and coral.
Josie is a lovely hosts, she cooks the best food and very divers! The huts are very nice and clean and we felt welcome here.
It is an ideal basis for arranging diving trips since you can choose your own dive-school.
For us it was a bit ‘busy’ on Kri with a row of homesteads along the whole coastline. But there is nothing wrong with Brar, everything is in good working order.
Thank you!

My partner and I enjoyed a lot. We felt very welcomed, the food was great, no problems with preparations of lunchboxes and the little beachhouse was all we needed with view to the sea. So big thanks to the family who were really warm. Also I liked that this place on the island is more calm and less plastic around than on many other places to the island. In general I hope that governments will be able to step up and put some regulations in place that the plastic rubbish doesn’t destroy the paradise.

On recommande!

This is really a very nice homestay with a very friendly family. You feel at home instantly. The food was excellent and the family was helpful with anything I needed. If you want a quiet and peaceful timeout – this is the place you go.

We spent 7 nights in Brar early December. The bungalows are simple but clean and towels are supplied. Though, matress would deserve to be changed. Bathroom and toilet is very clean as well. Food is very nice. Fresh beers are available at 20 minutes walk and southern Kri is about 40 minutes walk (on the beach with some passages on water). It was a very nice stay.

I was here for 8 nights un february and everything was perfect.
Josie is very kind and helpful. She was at wasai to pick me up.
The bungalow is simple but very clean and the homestay is very quiet.
Not rats or other animals because it was so clean.
From there, you can watch the sunset wich is very beautiful and différent everyday.
I was Diving on the other side of the Island, and they organized a boat everyday to bring me there.
The food was also very good and different. As I am vegetarian, I had special meal like tofu or tempeh.
The privé for the boat is also very cheap (usually 800 000)
I had a very Nice stay at Brar and Will come back for sure.

We stayed at 6 different homestays in RA and the food at Brar was one of the best, we had in RA.
We got every day fish or chicken, various vegetables, cake, pancakes, fruit like dragonfruit, good milk coffee.
Everything was fresh, more than we could eat and very tasty. There stayed some vegetarians at Brar as well and they always got special tempe, eggs or vegetables.
Once we came too late for lunch, Brar kept our meal and served it when we arrived.
The Brar family was very friendly and welcoming to us, always with a smile on the face.
They asked us by email, in advance , if we need a pickup. They offered us an additional mattress and brought it into our bungalow.
When we moved to the south side of Kri I forgot my agenda and they even brought it to us by boat !!! ?
The whole Homestay was very clean with a nice bathroom/Mandi, we didn’t see any rats.
Directly in front of Brar there is a nice coral reef with fishes. You can go snorkeling, or walk to the two jetties, where snorkeling is amazing as well.
We enjoyed our stay very much.
Thank you Brar

In our 5 weeks in RA visiting more than 10 homestays we realize how difficult it is to choose them upon the comments. We try to give one star for each: beeing welcome by the staff/owners, accomodation/cleanness, food, housereef and trips.
In Brar homestay we stayed one night as our favorite homestay in Kri was still fully booked. We still dont understand how homestays with not welcoming athmosphere can ask the same price like homestays with a very good service.
1. No star for beeing welcome, maybe because we arranged just for one night before going to another homestay. Noone really talked to us. The atmosphere with the CAUGHT KAKADU is a little strange, the animal next to the dining area is mostly hanging upside down on the chain holding is feet as it might be bored a lot.
2. No star for accomodation: The bangalow is basic and clean, but the generators cooling the caught fish of the neighbouring resort was running closeby. In general this side of Kri is a crowded by bungalows one after the other.
3. No star for food: This place we had was the worst food in 5 weeks RA, we think it is because we anyway stayed one day they did not shop something extra for us, but there was even no salt at the dry hard tempe (served with nothing but plain rice, seriously).
4. No star for the housereef. Taking a boat trip and snorkelling the crazy current in front of the sorido bay resort is amazing.
No star for trips as we did no trips with them.
The rating

Our booking was accepted a few days ago. And then, three days before our arriving scheduled, the Brar Homestay cancelled our booking telling us that they don’t have room anymore !!!!
That’s not professional and dishonest
That’s indeed completely unacceptable Ines. 🙁
Just a question: We can’t find any booking request from you for Brar in our system, so we assume you made that booking by direct contact – is that correct?
I made the reservation with my boyfriend’s name, that’s why.
Anyway, we find an other homestay easily, thanks to your website which is amazing ! Thanks a lot !
Thanks Ines. We need to follow this up, and are hoping you can send us your booking ID number and/or the email address you used to make your booking? You can do that privately via our contact form. Thank you 🙂

Stayed here for a week. The food was usually excellent and plenty of it. The host was very pleasant and would help to organise local boat trips when needed. The only negative experience was getting picked up from Waisai. Despite arranging to be picked up in advance and getting in touch the day before as a reminder there was nobody there to collect us. When we called we were told they were coming then they hung up. 3 hours we waited and in the end we hitched a ride with another couple from a neighbouring homestay. So it was a bad start to the experience which was quickly forgotten as everything else was so great.
But it would have been good to know we weren’t getting picked up so we could have arranged something else earlier.
Hey John – disappointing about the pickup, but great to hear everything else was good!
Did you book and request a pickup using the booking form above, or did you book by some other means? (You can reply privately by PM or via our contact page if you like – thank you 🙂 )
Hi Jhon, sorry for our shortcomings during your stay at Brar Homestay. Thank you

A great stay at Brar Homestay.
What we loved:
– meals were delicious and varied: at breakfast: chocolate brioche, pancakes or banana fritters … Other meals: fish or chicken or eggs cooked differently with vegetables and rice and fruits (bananas , papayas, watermelons).
– our bungalow was clean with beautiful views of the lagoon,
– The snorkelling was nice with lots of fish, sharks, sea snake, turtles, sting rays, moray eels, but the corals are still broken (compared to Gam).
The least: nothing
Note that in Raja Ampat, there is no network, you must buy an Indonesian card to access the internet or calls.
A big thank you to all !

We stayed 8 nights at Brar Homestay in november 2017. What an incredible time we spent there! The family was welcoming and the place is one of the cleanest we saw on the island. The food was also tasty and the place really quiet. You can walk from this place to another place easily. We dove with Yankoranu Homestay and was easy to plan for trips to Piaynemo and others.
I highly recommend this beautiful and peaceful place. At Brar Homestay the landscape is breathless.
Enjoy!

Hi!
I’m asking some questions for a futur trip in your Homestay, because Kri island seems incredible.
You say that it exist day trips to Wayag or Piaynemo which can be organised with neighbouring Byuk Beya Homestay.
Are there usually more then one person every day going to share price? And tours to Wayag and piaynemo there usually peoples to share price?
Thank you
Hi Josselin
It’s impossible to say how many people might be interested in a Wayag trip on any particular day, but given how many visitors stay on Kri, you’re more likely to be able to put together a group there than anywhere else. You’re welcome to post an enquiry in our Stay Raja Ampat Travellers’ Forum fb group to see if you can organise something before arriving.
Thank you for you answer.
And do you know the average price for a boat to Pianemo or Wayag ?
I have a feeling that KRI is one of the best location, because of the proximity of many others good places, can you confirm?
Thanks
You’re welcome Josselin.
Prices vary widely according to operator and the island the trips depart from. Where we’ve been given them, we’ve provided prices on each homestay’s page.
There are plenty of other islands that are also in close proximity to good places, but it’s true to say that Kri is the most popular island.
By the way – Star(fish) ratings should be awarded to a homestay once only, by guests who have actually stayed there. They are homestay ratings, not facebook comment likes 😉

We enjoyed staying at Brar, especially the food. The bungalows are clean though bath facilities are very basic.

Homestay family was very pleasant, helpful and adjusted the meal timings around our snorkeling trips and sunset timings, clean rooms and bathroom! Bappa was excellent (he was looking out for us when we were in strong currents) us on snorkeling trips. The generator was a bit noisy when they turned it on very early on some mornings but I think if we talked to the family, they would have turned it off! Also, the next Homestay’s generator was on all night but when we talked to them they turned it off! We also stayed at Yenbuba over the water bungalows, the atmosphere there was not as pleasant as Brar. Very pleasant atmosphere!

Brar homestay must be one of the best places to stay on Kri. I loved it. The familly is nice and they want you to be happy there. Huts are very basic but clean and what else do you need ..probably hammock to make your existence perfect, although I asked and got one.
The food was very good, variety of veggi, tofu, tempeh and fish, almost every day. Always more food then enough. The members of family dont speak english but I didnt have any problems with basic communication. If there are any doubts they will call a friend to visit and translate. Good idea to have a phrase book.
Brar is quiet and safe place to be, and short distance walk to dive center Yenkoranu, which picked me up at Brar every morgning for diving.
Awesome holidays!
Thank you Brar! And all the best for you!

Hello !
Coming from paris, we stayed 5 nights at Brar homestay from Sept 8th until the 13th 2017 , and it was an absolute pleasure : the bungalow are simple yet very comfortable and clean , we had rain every night (rainy season) and those estonishing papua leaf roof did not leak once ! The family mum makes an amazing dishes for each meals , breakfast : cakes and banana donuts , delicious lunches and diner with fresh tuna or other fish , fresh vegetables in amazing sauces ! They also had a very kind gesture by making us banana pancakes for my companion’s birthday , so sweet !
Very practicaly located , next to “kayak for conversation”, and a short walk to “Wobbegong dive shop” , which we also highly recommend .
Thanks to the whole family at Brar homestay , it was a pleasure staying with you on your beautiful Kri island !
“Injo naboye” (…not sure of the spelling but it means “thanks a lot” in Papua )

Really recomand it!
It is the cleanest place we have been to in raja4 ! no spider and no rat haha
The best place for food, and the most friendly and generous familly we met! Bungalow are simple but good, beautifull view, and the snorkeling just in front is wonderfull (on the left side you can swim more then 1km on the reef!)
Ho! I forgot the cheapest prices for boat! (cheaper than written here)
Dear Marion,
My husband and I would like to stay there up to 12 nights and we would appreciate if you contact us to clarify some info regarding this homestay and their snorkeling trips.
Thank you in advance,
Ilona

at the beginning of may 17 I stayed 3 nights at brar. the fish was grilled over chacoral – very tasty. they maintained my bungalow daily. the problem were the boat when I wanted to go snorkeling. from day to day they doubled the price although the distance was almost the same. I ask them to organize a boat trip to melissas garden with the neighbouring homestay. they told me there were no option and it would cost me something around 3 million idr to get there. but there was an option on day 3 when I the people from the neighbouring homestay told me that they had been there. the next morning I left brar homestay. people at brar homestay work with false advertisements, betray and lie to costumers. there are many other homestays on kri with honest owners.
Perhaps there was some misunderstanding here peter?
Melissa’s Garden is near Piaynemo. Most Kri homestays charge somewhere between 5 and 6 million for a trip to Piaynemo, so 3 million seems like a very good price actually.
