Details

Blacktip Homestay is located on the sheltered northern shore of Palau Ransiwor.

Ransiwor is the tiny island that lies between Kri and Mansuar.  At low tide, Ransiwor is connected to Kri and Mansuar by sandbanks.

Blacktip Homestay offers three private beach bungalows. The bungalows sleep two on mattresses on the floor. Sheets, pillows, bolsters and mosquito nets are supplied. Bungalow bedrooms are equipped with light switches and power outlets for charging devices.

Meals are served at Blacktip Homestay’s sand-floored dining shelter. A table and bench seating is provided, and drinking water and tea and coffee making supplies are always available there.

Guests share a two-room bathroom building. A western style toilet and bucket bathing are provided. Note: As far as we know, there is no fresh water supply on Ransiwor.  Which means that, if the bathing water supplied is fresh, then it’s been hauled over from Yenbuba for you. Use sparingly!

Electricity is supplied by generator, and is only available from sunset to around midnight. (You can, of course, offer to buy more fuel if you want it on at other times.) Blacktip Homestay receives a strong 4G signal from the nearby Yenbuba tower.

Basic supplies are available in the village of Yenbuba, which is in easy walking distance at low tide. Be sure to keep an eye on the tide, and time your return journey well.

Please do take all your inorganic rubbish away with you when leaving Blacktip Homestay. There is no safe means of disposal of such trash in Raja Ampat.

Very little English is spoken at Blacktip Homestay. Bringing a translation app or phrasebook is recommended.

Transport / Getting there

Waisai transfers cost IDR 800,000. Transfers are by longboat, and the trip price is shared by passengers. (Maximum of four.)

Activities

Like all homestays, Blacktip Homestay can organise snorkelling and sightseeing trips to anywhere you want to go.

Be sure to bring snorkelling gear, because the reefs on the southern side of Ransiwor are fabulous. If you are a reasonably competent swimmer (and have fins!), Yenbuba Jetty and the reefs of southern Kri are close enough to swim to. Be sure to do it on the slack of the tide though.

Tidal currents in Raja Ampat are very strong, especially when flowing through narrow straits like the one between Mansuar and Kri.

If you want to dive, cross to Kri and ask one of the dive centers there about your options.

Yenbuba village is very close, and is a nice place to visit. Mansuar's jungle paths make long walks possible from Yenbuba.

  • The location is wonderful, great snorkeling around the island, the Yenbuba jetty. You can walk to Kri when there is low tide.
The housing is simple, even for Raja Ampat. The food was average.
They did not wash the linen/pillow etc. after the customer. That is a NoGo ….
Overall it is OK clean. The Family does nothing all day, they are not the friendliest….
For the same price, you get other, better Homestays in Raja Ampat (Korein, Mandum) . For the location it is okay to go there maybe for 1 or 2 days.

  • Blacktip Homestay is all about location. Set on tiny Ransiwor Island between Kri Island and Mansuar Island, the setting is exceptional. At low tide, sandbanks appear and you can walk between the islands. It is a remarkably beautiful spot.
There are just three overwater bungalows, very simple in design. Inside: a mattress with mosquito net and a small table. Outside: a terrace with a hammock. There is a fan, though the constant sea breeze usually makes it unnecessary. Electricity runs in the evenings (roughly 6 pm to midnight).
At 470K rupiah per night including three meals, this is still among the cheaper options in Raja Ampat and offers very good value. The food was consistently good, often featuring well-cooked Spanish mackerel with rice, vegetables and tempeh. Portions were generous.
Bathrooms are shared with the neighboring resort. They are basic but functional, with mandi-style washing and a Western toilet.
The only real drawback is that the owner is not particularly welcoming or proactive. Also, our booking was initially mishandled and we had to spend the first night elsewhere. While this kind of mix-up does happen in Raja Ampat, I have to subtract one star for that.
Overall, though, this is an excellent choice in an outstanding location, especially for independent travelers.

  • Highly recommended, excellent homestay. I was not disappointed by this homestay despite not having any reviews. I had the best time and a lot of fun.

This homestay is super comfortable and run by Herold and his wife Elsha. The place is clean and has everything you need. Elsha catered with delicious food for my vegetarian meals. Food is plentiful and delicious. Herold and Elsha have a nice family and fun to be around.

The homestay is located a short swim away from the fabulous Yenbuba jetty and easily accessed with snorkelling gear. I visited the jetty daily and the huge fish that hang there.

Herold took me out on the homestay boat on excellent snorkelling trips to Cape Kri, Firwen wall, Batu Lima, various islands and Saundarek. These locations are excellent and highly recommend to go on day trips. We saw coral, sharks, turtles, fish of all sizes and by luck a dugong. Herold can also organise trips to manta Point or anywhere else. Herold can customise any trip.

The island is small and beautiful and not jammed packed with huts like some places.

The excellent location of the huts over the water on the sandy beach gives you a access to sit on the porch and watch around dusk the black tip juevenile sharks go by. There are also squid and baby black tip sharks just hanging benth your homestay porch during dusk.

This location is central and doesn’t require a long boat trip from Waisai or to get to excellent snorkelling sites.

  • Blacktip Homestay was added to Stay Raja Ampat today, and so does not have any reviews yet.

It’s really hard for families trying to launch a new homestay.

Please do consider giving Blacktip Homestay a chance, and then be the first to submit some feedback.

The Blacktip family (and their sharks!) would love to see you 😊🙏
