Details
Ayem Homestay lies on Pulau Ayem’s northern shore. Pulau Ayem is sheltered by the arms of the big bay that form Batanta’s eastern tip.
Like Tanjung Karang Homestay, the Ayem Homestay experience is like stepping back to the days before Raja Ampat’s promotion as a tourist destination: Basic beach hut accommodation in a seascape free of buzzing boats and day-trippers. A quiet retreat, where you are likely to be the only visitors for miles.
Ayem Homestay offers three private beach bungalows.
The bungalows only sleep two, and (with one exception) bedding is mattresses on the floor. Mosquito nets, sheets, blankets and pillows are provided. Rooms have power outlets and light switches.
Meals are served in Ayem’s beachside dining room. Free drinking water and tea and coffee making supplies are always available there for guests.
Electricity is supplied by generator and is available from sunset to around midnight.
Ayem usually receives a good 4G signal, but there are periods when the signal strength dips, and sometimes it vanishes completely.
Very little English is spoken at Ayem Homestay. If you have no Bahasa Indonesia, then it would be a good idea to bring an offline translation app or phrasebook.
Be sure to stock up with any items you consider essential, because local villages only have basic supplies available. Amdui is the nearest village. It’s about a five minute boat ride away.
As everywhere in Raja Ampat, please do take any inorganic waste you create away with you when you leave. Effective recycling and waste management doesn’t exist in Raja Ampat, so any inorganic rubbish you leave behind will only conribute to the trashing of paradise.
Transport / Getting there
If you want to be picked up from Sorong, then don't select the Waisai pickup checkbox on Ayem's booking form above. (Ayem's contact details will be provided in your booking confirmation email. Contact them directly to arrange a pickup from Sorong.)
Ayem Homestay's longboat can carry up to 4 passengers. Transfer costs quoted below are per trip, not per person. (For groups larger than 4, a different boat will be used.)
- Waisai transfer: IDR 3,000,000
- Sorong transfer: IDR 3,000,000
- Dayan transfer: IDR 3,000,000
- Arefi transfer: IDR 2,500,000

Activities
Bring your snorkelling gear!
The reefs and sandbanks around the homestay are easily explored from the beach, and your hosts can provide snorkelling and sightseeing tours on request.
You might want to consider combining a Sorong pickup with exploration of one or more of the islands that lie between Sorong and Ayem. The islands of Doom, Soop and Yefman, for example, offer various historical and natural attractions.
In addition to snorkelling and sightseeing, Ayem Homestay can provide Bird of Paradise and herping trips. See this May 2025 pricelist (PDF 37KB) for some popular options.

We had a wonderful stay at Ayem Homestay on Ayem Island. Our host Heni is an incredibly warm and welcoming woman who makes you feel at home from the very first moment. Together with her family, she not only creates a truly friendly, family-like atmosphere, but also prepares excellent food, fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Every meal was a highlight.
What impressed us most was how dedicated Heni and her family are to helping guests experience the beauty of the area. They go out of their way to show you special spots, share local knowledge, and make the whole stay feel personal and memorable.
We especially loved the seclusion, being on an otherwise uninhabited island was a rare and peaceful experience. It was the perfect place to switch off, enjoy nature, and fully unwind.
Highly recommended, if you’re looking for an authentic, quiet island getaway with heartfelt hospitality, Ayem Homestay is the place to be.

Ayem Homestay was added to Stay Raja Ampat today, and so does not have any reviews yet.
It’s really hard for homestays new to the website.
Why not take a chance, and then be the first to submit some feedback for Ayem? They’ll be so happy to see you! 😊🙏
