Details

Anno Homestay offers three over-water, private bungalows in a sheltered, seagrass-filled cove at the entrance to Gam Bay.

The bungalows are accessed from a common boardwalk and each sleeps two on a raised double bed. A mattress can be provided for twin shre or a third occupant if needed. The bungalows’ enclosed verandahs work well as a second bedroom. Bedding provided includes sheets, pillows, bolsters and a mosquito net, and all bungalows have light switches and power outlets.

Anno’s dining room extends from small limestone cliff behind the bungalows.  A large table with bench seating is provided. Power outlets are provided and free drinking water, tea and coffee are always there available for guests.

Guests share a two room bathroom building. A western style toilet is provided in one room, with dip mandi (bucket) bathing in the other.

Electricity at Anno Homestay is supplied by generator and is available from sunset to around midnight.

There is usually a good 4G signal at Anno Homestay. Data connections are supported.

A note about rubbish: There’s no effective waste treatment or recycling facilities in Raja Ampat, so leaving inorganic trash like plastics and dead batteries at Anno will only contribute to Raja Ampat’s growing rubbish problem. Please do take all your inorganic trash away with you when you leave.

Only a little English is spoken at Anno Homestay, so if you don’t speak Bahasa Indonesia, a translation app or phrasebook will be useful.

Transport / Getting there

Transfers between Waisai and Anno Homestay cost IDR 1,000,000. The cost is for a one way transfer, and is shared by boat passengers. (Maximum of 4 people.)

Activities

If you’re looking to get away from it all and relax in a spectacular tropical island environment, then Anno Homestay is perfect.

The homestay is located on a channel between islands and the shallow waters around the homestay are free of strong currents. The beach at Anno slopes gently into shallow water over a sand bottom dominated by seagrass and you’ll often see the children of the Beser Bay and Anno families playing there.

At the entry to Gam Bay, Anno Homestay is perfectly positioned to explore the karst islands, hidden waterways and rich marine life of the bay. Quite near the homestay are sheltered bays where moon jellyfish rise to the surface – sometimes in their thousands. In Gam Bay there are caves where roosting bats can be observed, including the seldom observed Raffray’s sheath-tailed bat. Orchids adorn the bay’s karst islets and stacks and the waterways conceal secrets like the “Hidden Lagoon” – a body of water that can only be entered via a cave and which shelters several intriguing species of marine life including soft corals, Synaptid sea-cucumbers and unusual jellyfish.

Great snorkelling (bring your own gear) over good coral is available in Gam Bay, as well as to the southwest of the homestay,  just outside the channel the bungalows shelter in. Beware of tidal currents if you venture to the reef dropoff out there – they are extremely strong when in full flow. Mantas regularly cruise the surface currents nearby and there are a huge range of nudibranch species to be found on the reefs at the homestay.

Kapisawar village is nearby and a great day’s outing can be had there and in Sawinggrai which lies a bit further to the east along a well made concrete path. The dawn display of Red Birds of Paradise can be seen at Sawinggrai and hordes of colourful reef fish gather every day for feeding at the jetty there.

Anno Homestay can provide snorkelling trips and tours to anywhere you might like to go, and diving is available by arrangement with Arborek Dive Shop. (You will need to book your dives separately in advance with Arborek Dive Shop.)

  • Anno Homestay has been one of the best homestay my partner and I went to.
On our arrival, they served us a king’s feast for lunch in our room with fresh fish and fruit. And they kept going with snacks, and honestly the best food : fresh fish, fruits, rice, sauces…everyday was different and nice. « Makanannya enak » !
The little houses are located on the water with such a nice view and snorkel straight from your ladder.
The whole family might not speak english 100% but the communication was still really good and they helped us with everything we needed.
On our last day, they even made us an early lunch even if we were leaving at 11am to make sure we were fed for our big journey out of Rajah Ampat.
    Terima kasih <3

  • Wonderful location and area, very nice bungalows with great views, good food and kind hosts. We really enjoyed our stay!

  • Amazing and clean place. Good and spacious hut. The mattress was the best we slept on out of all the homestays we went to. Food was delicious and there was a lot of it. There was hot water and fresh water by every hut and they served breakfast and afternoon snack by the huts as well!

  • The surroundings are beautiful, the food was good but nothing special, the bungalow was acceptable, but everything needs a bit of maintenance.
And the price is far too high.

  • We stayed at Anno over the new year and were looked after extremely well. The food was both plentiful and delicious and we enjoyed the upstairs dining area. The accomodation whilst not as spacious as nearby Beser Bay homestay is clean, generous and has in my view a better outlook.

Our hosts were a delight to work with and tried hard to accommodate our needs. Special mention to Lucia from Beser Bay who stepped in a few times to help with food and organising trips for us. Very much appreciated!

Whilst the local reefs are not as beautiful, they are still enjoyable (only place we saw the walking shark!) Plenty of day or half day options further afield (manta rays, Citrus etc) but if anything the prices we paid I would say we’re on the high side compared to trips from other homestays. However the transfer costs were reasonable and they have a good large boat.

Great place to stay and highly recommended although the $60 a day per person was the highest we paid in the 3 weeks we stayed in Raja Ampat.

Highly recommended particularly for their hospitality. Loved the village nearby too!

  • Me and my girlfriend stayed at Diva homestay for a total of 9 nights. We had both good and bad experiences and want to share them here to help future visitors.

Good things: The food is great, the homestay looks exactly as advertised and there were surprisingly few unwanted animal visitors in the cabin. Sartiel often went out of his way to show us animals after realizing that we were interested in that. The trips we took with the homestay were very nice. Also a big advantage is that they have a really nice boat for trips/transfers.

    Bad things:
We notified the homestay when we would arrive and which ferry we would take, but nobody picked us up in Waisai and we ended up having to wait for over 2 hours to be picked up. Once we arrived nobody explained to us how things work at the homestay(mealtimes, no paper in the toilets etc.). It was quite common for us to be completely alone at the homestay for a few hours each afternoon.

We were constantly asked for money to pay for fuel, docking fees etc., which we assumed should be included already in the price of the trips. Also for trip prices you should always refer to the prices given here on the website, because they will try to give you inflated prices. For one trip that we had to cancel due to me having a fever, they first asked us to still pay full price for the trip, but later shifted to us paying for the fuel that was bought for the trip (750.000). At the end of Our stay they actually asked us for a tip, which we found unreasonable given that we paid for fuel worth 750.000 and a 100.000 docking fee during a trip to yenbuba jetty. As a cherry on top, they found us again on the ferry asking for more money as there was a misunderstanding regarding payment for a trip to see coconut crabs. Even though the misunderstanding was quickly resolved, this left a bad impression on our last moments on raja ampat.

As for the guide of the homestay:
We were in contact before we even arrived, and it was very clear that he planned on being there for the duration of our stay. He texted and called a lot, to the point of being pushy. However, on the day of our arrival he did not answer any messages before we arrived in Waisai. Later, he said he will take the ferry the next day. The next day he asked us for an advance payment of 500.000 to be able to come to the Island. After this he became less communicative and actually never showed up. Fortunately, the 500.000 was later deducted from the price of the trips.

General things to keep in mind:
The house reef is not accessible during low tide, we have encountered sand flies in the area so mosquito spray is a must from around 16:00, there sadly is a lot of plastic and other trash on the beaches so it is advisable to wear solid footwear also in the shallow water (we actually found a syringe with a needle on the beach). Be prepared to communicate using google translate, we suggest downloading the indonesian language package.

  • We had an absolutely wonderful experience at Diva Homestay. Calvin contacted us prior to arrival and he was prompt in responding to any questions we had, which hugely put our minds at rest.

We appreciated that the prices for the activities listed on the website was accurate and up-to-date, as this allowed us to plan activities and stay within our travel budget. We had some fantastic trips, which Calvin and his Grandfather made extra special and fun.

The location is wonderful, so quiet and peaceful (and right across from Friwen!). We stayed for four nights, and we were the only guests at Diva for most of this time. It was nice to be able to walk into the village and also explore the nearby jungle (we had pre-arranged to use local guide Fritz for this trip).

The room was great with a comfortable mattress, raised bed and western-style bathroom facilities (including mirror!). Overall, the room was as shown on the pictures, so we had no surprises.

The food at Diva was amazing. It was very varied, and always fresh and tasty (and plentiful!). As we were the only guests (for the majority of our stay), the time of the meals was varied to suit our daily plans, and this suited us well. Lunch etc was provided for trips, and breakfast was arranged ahead of any trips we planned with Diva.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay. Calvin was a fantastic and very fun & involved guide, which really added to our experience. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this homestay if you’re looking for a peaceful, beautiful section of the island and want a personalised trip where you can experience all Raja Ampat has to offer ☺️

  • Extremely beautiful, and very hot! The over water bungalow was very nice. You can see tons of fish and sharks right off of your porch, and we even saw a cuttlefish. One thing to note is that it gets very hot and there is not much airflow in the homestay during the day. At night they run a generator that will power a fan in the bungalow but just be prepared for the heat. You can always cool off in the water. The food was very good and everyone was friendly. The boat ride from Waisai was about 1:15 and cost 100,000 IDR each way. Very glad we came to stay there. I recommend it.

    • Great to hear you enjoyed your stay Philip, but surely there is a zero missing from the transport price you have quoted? (That’s a tenth of Anno’s advertised price!)

  • Today is our last morning at Raja Diva- it is like leaving family- the people we have met are so kind and helpful, the food is amazing ( Mareetee ♥️) !!!! And Calvin is a wonderful guide- He speaks great English and helps in every way- showing us beautiful places and sharing his dreams and ideas for the future of Raja Ampat. Im so grateful we were here in this slice of paradise, I know Nadia plans to extend.. but I loved having it all to ourselves with just the locals; meeting their children, hearing their singing.. feeling a million miles away from the business of the world
Thankyou Raja diva- we will miss you – Carrie Lisa

  • I stayed at 3 different homestays in Raja Ampat and was here for 3 nights. The food was tasty but compared to other homestays, the variety and quantity of food was much less.

The snorkelling in front of the beach is ok, but generally the coral is very degraded and there’s lots of algae.
The room was nice, but very dark as it’s set back in the forest. Electricity comes on from 6pm to 6am.

I found Calvin extremely pushy, particularly before I arrived. He messaged me repeatedly to find out my plans. He was absolutely insistent that they collect me from my previous homestay even though I had not asked for a pick up. On that day his first call was at 6am, with 5 subsequent calls, and he even lied about the fact that a boat was already there to collect me when he didn’t know where I was staying. His English was very poor and he was not able to organise a visit to Wallace’s hut even though I asked twice….so I just arranged that with another homestay. On the day of departure, he suggested we leave at 1.30pm, which was laughable as the journey takes a lot longer than 30 minutes to reach Waisai in time for the 2pm ferry.

    • I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this miscommunication may have caused you.

  • We spent for weeks in Raja Ampat, and we especially apreciate Anno homestay, a lovely place full of family atmosphere.
Anno homestay is originaly situated at the entrance of Besser Bay, you can enjoy the beauty of the reef and the wonderfull quietness of the Bay, being surrounded by enchanting wild nature.
The family is very kind, the food and the accomodation was great, and Ferry was very Kind and helpfull.
    Thank You:))

  • I stayed at Anno homestay for seven nights. Anno homestay is managed by a Ferry manager who speaks English and will fulfill all your travel requests and other requests. The food at Anno homestay is excellent for the homestay raja ampat. I was fed fish and fruit every day, and they gave me a lot of cakes and cupcakes for breakfast and afternoon tea. Now about the bungalows, they are large and have a bed and a mattress on the veranda where you can relax during the heat and there is also a fan.Now I will tell you more about the place. Anno homestay is located on a small island in front of the entrance to gam bay. It is always quiet there. Only sometimes local boats sail by. There are many young sharks and other fish swimming in the water. A good coral reef stretches from Anno homestay to methos homestay. From morning to lunch, it is good to swim there and there are no strong currents. In Gam bay itself, a good coral reef with macro life is located to the right, while schools of baracudas and 5-6 young napaleon fish swim to the left. In Gam bay, you can swim all day, regardless of the ebb and flow, and there are no currents there.

  • The stay at Anno Homestay was a great experience.
The bungalows are spacious and the extra mattress on the terrace is great for relaxing.
Everything was perfectly organised and Ferry, the person in charge of the guests, was very attentive and fulfilled all wishes, especially regarding the excursions.
The food was delicious and varied. The quantity provided was so large that it was impossible to manage.
The location is wonderful, with limestone cliffs, seagrass beds, mangroves and coral reefs to explore right from the terrace.
Good snorkelling conditions and lots to discover!
Baby reef sharks patrol daily around the bungalows and with a bit of luck you can spot a walkingshark or a cuscus in the trees at night.
I can highly recommend this place and would come again.

  • Anno homestay was our favorite out of the 6 different home-stays we visited. We stayed at Beser Bay as well, which is right next door and also top notch, but we liked Anno even better! And what is nice is that they are friends (maybe even family) and connected so if you stay at Anno, you can still use the dock at Beser bay to go to the end to of the dock to snorkel out to the coral of to watch the incredible sunsets in the evening time. At both places, you can also see baby sharks, stingrays and lots of fish swimming right from the docks. Meanwhile the nearby snorkeling and coral is beautiful, different the other coral I had seen in RA and very interesting as well. It was one of the only places we stayed that didn’t have a lot of garbage floating in the sea or on the shore and our accommodations were very nice! The extra mattresses that the put on the outside decks for lounging around after a great snorkel were also wonderful. The food was also great. We had an excellent time here and could have stayed much longer!

  • I loved my stay in the little homestay! The room was spacious and spotlessly clean and had everything you could need. The food was absolutely delicious and hats off to them for going the extra mile to make vegan food for me. Calvin spoke excellent English, has impeccable manners and went out of his😄way to make our snorkeling trips amazing! The snorkeling and little community there were excellent and I definitely hope to back some day .

    • Sharon sayang, terima kasih banyak atas tanggapan Anda. Senang sekali bisa menyambut Anda sebagai tamu dan kami sangat menantikan kedatangan Anda kembali. Sampai saat itu tiba, semoga yang terbaik dari seluruh tim Diva HomeStay🤞🤞

  • I had an amazing stay here. The two cabins are new with a comfortable mattress, beautiful tiled bathroom with sink and mirror, a big table for your things and a strip with pegs and clothes hangars.

Nidea cooked varied meals and Calvin, her enthusiastic and kind nephew, spoke English. He arranged for special snorkelling excursions where I saw some of the best coral of my trip. Either Calvin or one of the Papua brothers who were the boatmen swam with me pointing out anything unusual.

Two mornings, we saw a mother and baby dugong nearby the homestay. The snorkelling in front of the homestay was also good. I saw a number of turtles.

I especially loved that it was located next to the jungle with a beautiful sandy bay to the right. The trees on an outcropping allowed you to swim in the shade in the afternoon which was a treat for me.

Thank you all for making my stay a memorable experience!

    • Thank you so much for your great review. We got goosebumps reading it. You are wonderful people and we are so grateful to have such wonderful people like you in We are so happy you had a great time with us. We hope to see you again. Best wishes from the entire Diva Homestay team 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

  • I stayed at Diva Homestay for 10 days and had an incredible experience. I love this small homestay with only two bungalows on the beach and close to the jungle. The house reef is very beautiful and I saw a lot of various fishes, little sharks. I went snorkeling often three times a day and love every moment. The snorkeling tours with the guides Marcel and especially Calvin are very good and I enjoyed every moment. With Calvin and Papua we had the super experience to snorkel with mantas. Thank you so much!
Nydia is a very good cook so I enjoyed always a delicious lunch and dinner. The meals a very varied and delicious.
The bungalows are basic but this is a part of the experience so far away in such a remote region – but also one of the last paradise of our world.
I am sure, I remember those days always with a smile and I will come back again.
    Terima kasih banyak banyak

    • Thank you Karin for your kind words. We’re glad you had fun. Go back and dive again to Cape KRI and Manta point. The first impression when seeing a manta is an extraordinary impression, We are here waiting for you. Take care and best wishes from the whole team🐾🐾🐾🐾

  • We stayed at Raja Ampat Diva Homestay on Gam Island and had an incredible experience. It’s a beautiful, small homestay nestled right between the jungle and the beach, with only two bungalows. We had the entire place to ourselves for 4 out of our 6 nights, which made it feel even more special. The beach is lovely, although swimming is only possible at high tide. The house reef is amazing—we saw various sharks, turtles, sea snakes, and even dugongs! We went snorkeling at least twice a day and loved every moment of it.

The nearby village, Yenbeser, is just a five-minute walk away and has some small shops where you can buy snacks. We stayed for 6 nights and were pleasantly surprised to get a complimentary snorkeling trip to Friwen Wall, which was absolutely worth it! Our guide, Marcel, was incredibly friendly, communicative, and genuinely interested in ensuring we had a great experience.

The food at Diva Homestay was hands down the best we had in Raja Ampat. The two women who cooked for us are fantastic chefs, and the meals were super varied, abundant, and delicious. We enjoyed an amazing range of veggies, tofu, tempeh, eggs, fish, meat, and fresh fruits in all kinds of combinations.

The bungalow itself is quite basic and has a bit of a musty smell, but it’s all part of the experience in such a remote location. We did have some visits from rats and crabs, so be prepared for a bit of wildlife! There is a Western-style toilet, although without a toilet seat.

Overall, we highly recommend Raja Ampat Diva Homestay for anyone looking to experience the natural beauty of Raja Ampat in an authentic, friendly setting.

Terima kasih banyak kepada Nydia & tim untuk pengalaman yang luar biasa dan keramahan yang hangat. Kami merasa sangat diterima dan tidak akan pernah melupakan waktu kami di sini!

  • We absolutely loved staying at Anno Homestay! It is a hidden gem, so beautiful and quiet in a protected lagoon. The couple is very friendly, food is delicious and they serve a lot of food (even freshly prepared afternoon snacks) and different tours can be arranged.
We could see different kind of parrots crossing the lagoon and an osprey came several times for hunting 25m in front of our cabin. We loved listening to the birds, watching the tides come and go into and out of the lagoon, and there are so many creatures to discover in the different surroundings of the lagoon (mangroove areas, hard coral areas, soft coral areas, seaweed areas, mixed areas), definitively never boring during our 3 nights stay.
Especially the lush colorful soft coral gardens around the rocky island in front of the lagoon (only 5 minutes snorkeling distance) were astonishing with so many microlife in it (for exemple lots of sea needles). Sometimes a huge shoal comes directly in front of the cabin and you can watch them from your deck.
At night, Anno homestay is the perfect place in the lagoon to see walking sharks and many blue spotted rays directly from the terrace of your cabin. Swimming/snorkeling at night in front of the cabin is absolutely amazing: there is bioluminescent plancton!
A baby black tip reef shark was frequently swimming past the terrace and it could be observed while hunting at night. On a nearby island we could even spot a dugong (they are around but hard to see). We would definitively love to come back!

  • We (couple) spent 3 nights in this homestay, and loved it! The meals were good and plentiful, the host was always joyous and available.
The “village” nearby is very convenient also to organize boat trips.

    Overall a lovely stay

  • My stay of four days in June 2024 was perfect. The host family and some guys from the adjacent village were very helpful and accommodating, the location is beautiful. Also the short distance to Wasai is a big plus, 30+ minutes ride in their longboat. The food was superb in quality and quantity, dining on the over water porch was perfect. Thank you!

  • We spend 8 days in this homestay just before the covid starts. It was a fantastic experience!!! The host was very helpful, meals great, snorkeling at the house reef breath-taking. They had a boat and we visited a number of places, including Piaynemo. We also had a trip for birdwatching – bird-of-paradise with a local quide.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Anno. Our hosts were gracious with cooking us delicious local food and treated us with care. Our spacious bungalow on the water was our favorite view of all the home stays we stayed at. Extra care was taken to provide us a hand washing station with soap and rooms and linens were clean. We took a short trip to Arborek to see giant mantas and were charged a very fair price. Snorkeling was excellent! Only issue was that it was hot at times since bungalows were facing away from open ocean so no good breeze when sleeping. I would recommend this stay to friends.
