Four beachside VIP bungalows with ensuite bathrooms are available.

Electricity is supplied by generator, and is available from sunset to around midnight.
Aibaf Pam Dive Homestay usually receives a good 4G phone signal.

Pam village is a ten minute boat ride away, and basic supplies can be purchased in shops there.
Please be aware that, as everywhere in Raja Ampat, there is no way to properly dispose of inorganic waste at Aibaf Pam Dive Homestay. To avoid contributing to the trashing of paradise, all homestays ask that you take all your inorganic trash away with you when you leave.

(Obviously, if you are going to arrive on the cargo boat, then you don't need to request a Waisai pickup when submitting the booking form above.)
Here's what you need to know about getting the cargo boat to Fam.

Un piccolo paradiso. Bungalow sulla spiaggia e ben tenuto in rapporto agli standard di Raja Ampat. Cibo buono in giuste quantità in relazione agli ospiti presenti. Centro Diving molto valido.
On the google maps the homestay name is Bau Homestay.
We stayed 2 nights in the homestay, food was good. Except for breakfast, which is always the case in Raja Ampat. So take some snacks with you. There are a lot of mosquitos coming out at around 7 p.m. But staff put candles in the dining area and our room immediately , so they did not bother us anymore. (I must admit first 10 minutes we had a small panic, haha)
You can snorkel from the homestay. The corals are not very impressive, but we saw shark, turtle, napoleaon fish and many more.
Close to a homestay there is a spot where you can snorkel with mantas. That’s amazing!
Frindly reminder: use bio cosmetics, not only sun screen, leave no trace 🙂
Also better take a coconut drink than cola or beer 🙂
Me and my partner had a great stay at Aibaf. We had an unfortunate pick-up with the owner, Feliks, as he was 5 hours(!!) late to pick us up from a homestay on Kri, despite communicating 1 week in advance, and also on the pick-up day.
Homestay is good, food is good. We had our own toilet/shower which was nice. Island is really secluded, which is also really nice. Dive safety is a bit sketchy, however, this turned out to be the guiding rule all over Raja Ampat. Owner took us to unforgetful places around the Fam Islands. Can recommend!
Had a great stay at Aibaf Pam. The bungalows are nice and big, even with a separate seating area which was great. Flush toilet and shower head was a nice change from the other home stays we were at. The beach is nice and you can go for walks to look for shells. We walked around the island one afternoon which was interesting but I would not recommend. Only about 1/4 is sand the rest are medium size rocks/coral and very difficult to walk on with water shoes (yes parts are in the water). It took us 3.5hrs :(. The house reef in the front and to the right is not great but not bad either. Pockets of good coral and a fair bit of life; eels, rays, turtles, sharks, giant clams and all the usual reef fish. We snorkeled there 4 timess and found something new every time! We found the snorkel trips underwhelming but we were lucky enough to swim with many mantas on one of the trips. It was fantastic as they were close enough to touch. Definitely worth it! Benjamin was great at spotting them and getting us in the right position to have them swim past us. Trip prices were reasonable. FYI there is no cell reception from about 2:30pm to 6:40pm, not sure why but it happens every day. Also the mosquitos and other biting bugs are pretty bad. They light coils in each room while we are having supper, we used lots of insect repellent but still got many bites. We enjoyed a few afternoons sitting in front of the dining building where the breeze, the views, and the cold beer were fantastic!
Big comfortable houses
Good reef
Good food
Little English is spoken but for those who speak a little Bahasa Indonesia very easy to connect
We have spent four nights at the Aibaf Pam Homestay. It is the only homestay on that island consisting of four bungalows. The location is very quiet and the beach with countless of palm trees and crystal clear water is stunning! We really liked the snorkeling along the beach (it is worth to walk 15 minutes west and then turn north). The prices for the snorkeling tours were fair and we appreciated Feliks experience for spots where we could find the animals we hoped for (turtles, mantas, sharks). The bungalow being divided by doors into bathroom, sitting area and sleeping room felt more like a studio which was really nice. What we would have wished for was a comfy sitting possibility (only a wooden bench), more variety and sometimes also a bigger amount of food (especially breakfast) as well as soap in the bathroom.
Stay: Oktober 2025
Food: Braekfast, Lunch, Dinner. Typical Indonesian Food but sometimes a bit monotonous with vegetables. Coconuts available!
Things to do: Daytrips with the Aibaf Team to Piaynemo or the surrounding islands (snorkelling or diving only) . Communication was sometimes difficult.Compared to other homestays, it was good value for money.
No nice reef in front of the homestay but Baby Sharks and sometimes a turtle visible.
Facilities: Nice Houses with own bathroom and Fan. Toilet flush and shower head available. Stretchers on the beach for relaxing.
We had an amazing stay on this beautiful island. Asty welcomed us warmly. The diving experience was perfect! Thanks to the care of the entire team, our stay was truly comfortable and memorable.
Aibaf is a lovely slice of paradise. My wife and I stayed here for 5 days in January of 2026 during our honeymoon.
Mantas, mantas, mantas!! This is the top reason to come here!! The staff are amazing at spotting mantas and there is a huge Manta feeding area about 300 meters from the homestay. We went out everyday we stayed here and snorkeled with many mantas. There aren’t many other Homestays on the nearby islands so we were usually the only boat and alone with the mantas. It honestly felt surreal.
The staff at Aibaf do their best to be as supportive as possible and keep the facilities very clean and tidy. There is very very limited English spoken among the staff and everything happens on Raja time, but you will have a great time anyways.
There is 4g most of the time, but it randomly cut out between the middle of the afternoon and 7pm most days. Download Indonesian on Google Translate on your phone before arriving here to help with communication.
The facilities are stunning! The bungalows are large with a nice bedroom (with a fan), a separate spacious sitting area AND AN ENSUITE WESTERN BATHROOM! The buildings are beautiful and airy. They run the electricity from around 7pm to 4-5am. The eating area is gorgeous and you can spot mantas there in the mornings. They light the facilities up beautifully in the evening.
There are a lot of mosquitos and tiny flies which are quite irritating. The staff lit 4 coils in our room each evening which was CLUTCH! The mosquito nets around the beds are the tube kind and not perfect at keeping them out… There are also about 8-9 emaciated dogs living in the area around the homestay. They are friendly, but sad to see how hungry they are. It is also oppressively hot here in the afternoons. Bring sunscreen so you can spend lots of time in the water. The homestay is on a corner so you can usually find a breeze if you move around a bit.
This is the only Homestay on the island and the only inhabited area on the island, so you have the whole place to yourself. There are four bungalows accommodating up to 8 guests. There are probably at most probably about 10-15 people on the whole island.
The island feels quiet and you can walk a few hundred meters and be completely alone and feel like you are in Castaway. The beach is gorgeous and a huge highlight of this Homestay. White sandy beaches wrap around about 4km of the island. I walked around it during our stay and it takes about 2 hours. It is 7km in circumference and there is a fair amount of bushwacking involved so come prepared. There is a depressing amount of plastic garbage on the western part of the island that washed up from the ocean. You wouldn’t know it if you just stayed around the homestay.
The food is very good. Lunch and dinner were always huge with fish, vegetables, rice, sometimes noodles or potatoes and usually papaya or bananas for dessert. It feels like they prepare food for 8 people, even though there were never more 4 or 6 guests on the island with us. Breakfast is very basic, sometimes just fried bananas, or white bread with chocolate spread. Order a coconut while you stay here, they are delicious and fresh! We had one each day and they usually had 1cm thick of meat inside 😍
We dove at Aibaf. They have relatively well-maintained equipment and organize good diving. They are also very flexible and happy to accommodate requests. They are good at spotting and guiding dives. Language is always a challenge when planning, so use Google translate 😅
It takes about 2.5 hours to get to/from Waisai and they can arrange pickup and drop offs flexibly. We adjusted our pick up point multiple times the day before and they ended up arriving early to pick us up with a smile.
My wife and I really enjoyed our stay here. The homestay is beautiful and the mantas are otherworldly. We would definitely be happy to return!

I had such a great time, I plan to come back. The beach is one of the best. We saw baby black tip sharks, a turtle and manta rays. The accommodation and bathrooms are some of the best in Raja (mine flushed) and was ensuite. I went on one of my best macro dives ever. Feline was an expert at pointing out everything small at Fam Jetty. I liked it so much I extended and spent a week there.
If you’re coming, bring mosquito repellent. There are sandflies.

We stayed here for 4 nights, its a beautiful little island which you have pretty much to yourself! The food is good and the accommodation is great proper little bungalow with your own shower and toilet. We had great dives with Hendricks as our guide, he spots everything! I would definitely recommend pam jetty as a dive site if you like macro! We saw mantas right off the beach at the homestay and theres lots of blacktips and corals to see if you snorkel.
The only downside is timings are often off – you’ve got to be flexible dont expect a fixed schedule, but its indonesia! They’ll get you to the ferry on time though! They also took us to Pieynemo on a surface interval and despite some engine problems persisted to take us all over the place for dive sites. We had a very good stay here overall.

Excellent Homestay and Diving — Undermined by Chronic Dishonesty and Unreliability
The Homestay
Rooms and bathrooms are a cut above what is typical for the area. Food is very good, and the décor is polished and very Instagram-esque. On accommodation alone, this place rates highly.
The Diving
The diving is honestly spectacular. Feliks is a naturally gifted macro spotter, and the two night dives I did with him were excellent. The underwater experience itself is a clear strength.
The Catch: Repeated Broken Promises and Misrepresentation
Unfortunately, Feliks consistently makes firm promises about pickup, drop-off, equipment availability, and schedules that he does not keep. More concerning than the delays themselves is a recurring pattern of avoiding honest explanations and providing shifting or implausible stories instead.
—
Case 1: January 1, 2025 — Pickup and First Dive Day
The promise:
Feliks voluntarily promised to pick us up at 9:00 am with tanks and dive equipment and take us diving on the way to the homestay. There was no pressure to do so—it was the day after New Year’s—but he made the commitment clearly.
What actually happened:
We waited 7 hours for pickup.
He arrived around 4:00 pm, offering multiple explanations (another guest, engine problems, etc.).
He brought no dive equipment, despite promising otherwise.
Upon reaching the homestay, it became clear he did not have enough equipment to take us diving.
We waited another 2 hours for equipment to be returned from other guests.
Result: One dive for the entire day instead of a planned dive day.
—
Case 2: Repeated Issues During the Diving Days
This pattern repeated throughout our stay:
He consistently overpromised equipment to multiple guest groups simultaneously.
Guests eventually had to sit together and create a combined dive schedule ourselves.
Even then, delays continued because he repeatedly claimed to have working engines when this was visibly not the case.
Examples:
He said his team could not operate the engine—yet he also could not operate it properly.
He claimed engines were working but repeatedly had to go to nearby villages to borrow one.
Result:
On multiple days:
A 4-hour plan with 2 dives turned into 7-hour days with only 1 dive.
Another group waited 3 hours for what should have been a straightforward evening or night dive.
—
Case 3: Drop-Off Promise
Feliks insisted—without being asked—that we would leave at 5:00 am, and that he would sleep on the island to ensure an early start for the Waisai ferry.
At 5:00 am, he was nowhere to be found and was not even on the island.
He arrived at 5:40 am, without acknowledgement or apology.
This unnecessary commitment and failure caused significant stress.
—
Case 4: Passport and Missed Ferry
In the resulting stress, I accidentally left my passport at the homestay.
Feliks said that if we paid him, he would deliver it in time for the 2:00 pm ferry.
We paid him at 9:30 am, but he did not leave until 1:00 pm.
As a result, I missed the 2:00 pm ferry and had to resell a ticket purchased on his advice.
—
Case 5: Withholding Information and Extended Delay
After missing the ferry, Feliks refused to clearly state:
1. Where he was
2. When he would arrive
3. Who had possession of my passport
Instead, he offered unrelated explanations (weather, dizziness, asserting authority, etc.) while avoiding direct answers.
I waited at the Waisai ferry terminal for 12 hours, without food, because I had no reliable information on when he would arrive.
He said he would arrive at 3:00 pm, but did not.
The terminal closed at 6:00 pm, forcing me to leave.
He finally arrived at 6:30 pm.
This was:
9 hours after payment
6 hours after he left
For a journey that normally takes 1.5 hours
The most plausible explanation is that while charging 2.5 million IDR for an “express” delivery, the boat was used for multiple other errands first. This is an inference based on timing, not a claim of intent.
I am grateful that he eventually returned my passport, but the process was extremely stressful and avoidably so.
—
Case 6: Health Concern (Observation, Not Accusation)
After using his regulators, all three members of our dive team developed cold/fever symptoms. Two of us remain unwell 10 days later.
I cannot establish causality, but it raises concerns about regulator hygiene and added to an already negative experience.
—
Bottom Line
Homestay: Excellent
Food: Very good
Diving quality: Outstanding
Logistics, honesty, reliability: Deeply problematic
If you stay at Laguna Homestay or Gloria Homestay, you can access the same dive sites without being subjected to repeated misinformation and avoidable stress.
Feliks takes “fake it till you make it” to an entirely different level.

It’s a wonderful place for diving and our trips was very good . Service Team and sleeping comfort Perfect. Only his pricing for diving is not fair. I had my one Equipment, but I had to pay incl the rental – there is no pricing only for dives .

My sister and I stayed here for four nights and we were the only ones here. It’s such a beautiful island full of giant fruit bats and a gorgeous house reef that I saw sharks, bump heads and turtles at just snorkeling. The bed is comfy and they clean the room and change the sheets while you’re out for the day. There’s even a bench in the private lounge area of your bungalow. We had a mosquito net with some holes and got bites one night and we told Feliks and he brought us a brand new mosquito net and installed it for us as soon as he saw our bites. We dove, I think, seven times with these guys, I’m a dm and I work in marine conservation and I can’t recommend these guys more. I also need to say how kind these guys are. The home stay I was at before this one stole cash from my wallet and I only realized when I had arrived at Aibaf, Feliks made it his personal business to get my money back for me. He called the community leader of the other island and the police and personally gave me the cash himself after it was transferred to him. My whole trip could’ve been different if I hadn’t stayed at Aibaf. They were so kind and thoughtful and made every dive as special as they could. We told them what we wanted to see and they arranged dives to try and find us those things. Feliks took me on a night dive on the Pam jetty because he saw I was interested in photographing nudibranchs. On that dive he found me so many animals, held me in place to focus on the tiny stuff and even fought off the lion-fish for me. My sister is vegetarian and they accommodated her without a problem. In other home stays we had to put in so much effort to go anywhere or do anything. At Aibaf we just told them the night before we wanted to dive and they arranged these full days for us with viewpoints, lunch on tiny islands and manta snorkels between dives without us even asking. Like the diver who gave zero stars below, I also came up with plenty of air. My dives were still sixty to seventy minutes every time. I feel that if I had asked to stay ninety minutes I would’ve been accommodated. I wonder if Géraud asked. Stay here! Support these lovely dudes as they share their home with us visitors. You won’t regret it.

Aibaf really needs a special mention. We visited many homestays, but this one is a gem. It’s way better then any picture you can see. The ‘bungalows’ have proper walls, a lounge area, and a proper bathroom with flushing toilet and a real shower. The place is very well kept, clean and details make the difference! The common area is clean and well kept. The view from all around the place is stunning. Diving is great, equipment is maintained, and Feliks definitely knows where to take you to make sure you are having a wonderful dive. Food is abundant and good. Astrid was very helpful with everything we needed, she speaks very good English and to mention, she cleans the bungalow everyday, something we did not experience in other places, and we truly appreciated it. A very, heartfelt mention goes to Mr. Fox, a funny small dog that will simply steal your heart from the first moment, becoming your best friend during your stay, if I could I would adopted him. Please take good care of him and of the mum and puppies too. To anyone choosing this amazing place, please rub his belly on my behalf 😉

I had a great stay at the homestay: the place is really nice and the staff is extremely kind, always smiling and helpful.
However, the dive center was quite disappointing. The dive master consistently cut the dives short for no valid reason, ending them halfway through while there was still 110/120 bar left in the tank, simply so he could go home earlier. It’s a shame, because the experience could have been much better with more professional dive supervision.
Hello Geraud, I’ve been an instructor for 30 years, and I did dive with Aibaf 3 days prior your stay. In fact, some dives ended with 140 bars, I would like to point out to you, that dives normally are measured on time, not air, and if, like in this case, you dive at 15 meters, because there is were you see a lot of things, it’s normal that after 1 hour (that’s how long our dives were) you’ll end it with much air left. Probably, Feliks’ unwanted mistake is not taking at the beginning of the dive people down to 25 meters to see nothing and then taking them back to 15 meters, so you can end your dive with 50 bars left.
Happy bubbles to you!

Aibaf homestay was absolutely incredible ! It’s the place to go if you want a break for some peace and quiet. The bungalow was clean, comfy and the view was amazing. I was the only guest staying on the island, the family has taken a good care of me during my stay. The food was absolutely delicious. The snorkeling spots that I have been brought to were incredible and most of the time with no one else than ourselves. I definitely recommend it.

We had a very nice stay at Aibaf Dive Homestay.
– Rooms were very nice, clean, big and with plenty of space to put your things.
– Food was very good: we stayed at 2 homestays in Raja Ampat and this one was definitely the best.
– Dives were good, although we were a bit surprised they didn’t ask for our license or anything. The dives are not cheap but they didn’t charge for transport, compared to other homestays.
– The location is amazing, and we had the island to ourselves. We even saw some huge mantas and dolphins in front of the homestay. However, there is no much to do in the island and the coral reef in front of the homestay isn’t that beautiful, so I wouldn’t plan to stay more than 2-3 days.
– The staff was quite shy and they didn’t say much, but they were nice and accommodating with everything we asked.
– Many mosquitos, yes, but they kindly provide mosquito repellent and citronella spirals which work perfectly.
Can’t compare to other homestays in Pam Islands but this is a good choice!

We stayed at Aibaf Pam for 3 nights and absolutely loved it!
The bungalows are newly built and extremely spacious with fans and plently of shelves to store your belongings. Each bungalow has a lounging area with a table and a bench overlooking the sea, so you can spot dolphins and mantas directly from there. Each bungalow has its own bathroom with running water and a toilet that flushes, which is quite a luxury to have. The environment around the bungalows is very well kept and beautiful.
The food was great – always plenty and very delicious with fresh fish every day.
The island itself is very picturesque. There is a long strech of powdery white sand beach, a coconut plantation and a nice area for lounging/sunbathing on the windy side of the island, which is super refreshing during the hot days. There is a reef that is accessible directly from the beach but the coral is not great. However, your main focus on this island should be mantas – and there are a lot of them close by. We were lucky to snorkel with some right off the beach! We also do recommend going on manta boat trips – the hosts know the best times and spots to enjoy manta interactions.
One thing to note – there are loads of mosquitoes on the island! Make sure you bring enough repellent. The hosts are aware of this issue and provided us with mosquito coil in the dining area as well as in the bungalow.
Overall, having visited more than 10 homestays in Raja Ampat, we find Aibaf Pam to be the most comfortable and the best value for money. We wish we’d have stayed a bit longer!

For People looking for quiet place with rather good food 4 lovely Spacious partly stone nice lodges
Nice village visit with Barto for exp. 200.000 Rph
* Negative ; We really had to ‘push ‘ Barto& diveman/ boatman to bring us /drop us to to other place (after two lovely especially quiet nights ) , negative behavior after dropoff
Some flies in hut space but wide NEWish bed/musquito -net
Kitchencrew & food okay

The stay was great overall.
Astid is the warmest and most attentive hostess. The communication with her was perfect.
The bungalows are above the usual homestay standard and are even cleaned daily. Comfortable and clean beds.
The food was varied, tasty and offered in good quantities.
The diving equipment is in very good condition and fairly new. The air is clean and well filtered. The diving is not up to western standards, but as there was only one other diver as a guest, I really enjoyed the excursions with our Guide Bartu.
We were also shown two villages on the Fam Islands, as well as a night-time jungle hike to the coconut crabs. And all at no extra charge.
The island is a quiet and relaxed place and you can explore it yourself.
The house reef is only recommended for snorkelling to a limited extent due to the strong currents.

We stayed 4 nights at Aibaf and we really loved it. This is the perfect place to stay if you want a quiet island getaway.
Astid was a great host and made sure we could do all the trips we wanted to do. Communication with Feliks via WhatsApp was ok but would recommend the homestay would let Astid do the communication, as Feliks does not communicate clearly.
We really liked diving with Barto at Rufas Island and had the flexibility to pick any site we wanted. The dive equipment looked new and the air was good. Barto showed us many nudi branches and was a good give guide.
We were lucky to see many mantas (three days in a row) only a few minutes away from the homestay. During the snorkel tour, they allowed us to swim as many times as we wanted with the mantas. They were good at spotting them and took the current into account before letting us in. As you don’t have many boats passing by, you are likely the only ones, which was a very special experience.
The huts were very nice and the bed was really comfortable, the best mattress we had. We also really liked the food, especially the pancakes, aubergine and chicken, the food was very tasty compared to some other homestays. They always made sure there was more than enough food for everyone.
The only downside is that you don’t have a coral reef in front of the homestay, but they can take you snorkeling at many places.
Make sure you bring bug spray as there are many mosquitoes.

This was the hardest review to write, as they did somethings really well, and some were terrible.
The dive operation was a disappointment. You will see the same in other reviews.
This homestay was not very responsive before we arrived and Feliks was not on-site. They changed the prices between when we booked and when we arrived, they have a complex system for add-ons that they even charge for the house reef. It is effectively the most expensive dive homestay in Raja. If it was top-notch that might be excusable, but their guides made no alterations to schedule for dive conditions, and lacked the skill to avoid finning on the bottom of the 5m deep Fam Jetty dive they chose, creating low vis conditions in tight spaces with active fishing lines around. They made it clear that they were far more motivated to service a larger group in a neighboring homestay that was willing to pay a premium than 2 divers with their own gear. There was no real dive boat, just the basic long boats that are not functional for more than a couple divers at a time. After two days with them we stopped diving.
They only run the electricity from 6:30-12:00, give how hot the on-beach bungalows are this was disappointing as it was pretty toasty when that fan went off each night. Also the greatest number of biting insects we encountered so BRING BUG SPRAY.
Everything else … was great. The food was varied and tasty for five days. More than any other homestay they really made sure there was always more than enough to go around. The house reef is interesting and you can hike much of the island to see other spots. Mantas were seen right out front. Bring sandals, as the house beach, and many other areas have broken glass. Plan for rocky entries and managing currents.
Staff was very warm and friendly, they are really happy that you are there, and they go out of their way to make you happy. This includes the dive guides, who are friendly. Another vote for Astid as a great host.
The space was good, and the mosquito netting intact. The bungalows are newer with concrete floors and ensuite bathrooms. They give you a large box for food etc. to avoid problems with mice.
If we stayed here again we would definitely plan the week with the nearby Pam Divers, but the food, staff, and space is worthwhile.

Communications were excellent. Thank you Astid! They picked us up on Gam and got us to and from Pam despite fuel shortages. They’re very resourceful. The rooms with en-suite bathrooms are some of the best constructed we’ve encountered in Raja Ampat. The beds were comfortable but water pressure is minimal. The food was excellent! There is a good cell and media signal here and I was finally able to upload photo posts and catch up on outside communications. The beach and house reef weren’t my favorite but we were grateful that they were able to provide diving at this remote outpost. They had guests coming and going every day, but managed to get 7 of us all in the water simultaneously on dive tours with 2 guides. Jonas is learning. He’s not the most experienced guide, but this is a remote outpost and we were greatful that all the guests were experienced divers and stayed together on some challenging dives. The diving operation isn’t professional like it is in central locations on Kri and Gam, but for this remote area in the Pam islands, we were grateful for any opportunity.

Traveling in Raja Ampat can be done in 3 ways: Live on board, lodge or resort, homestay. I chose homestay despite them not being able to compete with accommodations from the 2 other formulas. With the homestay formula you support the local population. Live on board and resorts or lodges are much more expensive compared to homestays.
Aibif homestay meets the expectations in terms of accommodation. However, I would like to recommend that they supply their electricity with turbines driven by the current. The current for the homestay is so strong that you can generate enough power with a turbine generator to provide the homestay with electricity day and night (for example https://fishflowinnovations.nl/, certainly also produced in Indonesia), no gasoline for the generator needed more!
What really disappointed me is:
– Once you arrive in Waisai you will immediately be led to an office where you can purchase a permit to visit the Raja Ampat area. The permit will cost you 700k IDR for a whole year while you only spend a maximum of 10 days in the area. If that permit is not sufficient, you still have to pay a 300k IDR tax, totaling 1,000k IDR for 1 week.
– then you pay 2,500k IDR to get there.
– if you want to go snorkeling for a day at Piaynemo, it will cost you 1,500k IDR, of which 300k IDR goes to the Indonesian government for the maintenance of a wooden staircase????
– the purpose for which I chose the Fam Islands was mantas, sharks, wobbegong, none of these animals I met. The currents in this area are so strong that your dive along the coral wall is of no use to you or your dive in search of big game in the blue.
– of the 16 dives I did on 2 visits to Raja Ampat, 8 dives were in places where the coral had completely disappeared due to fishing with explosives, they were coral graveyards!!
My conclusion is that in terms of price and quality, the nature reserve is highly overcrowded and that there are certainly better diving spots in Indonesia. The Raja Ampat area is certainly not worthy of the name of world heritage.

The new bungalows are very spacious, with private showers and toilets. Everything was clean. The hosts were warm and attentive, making a genuine effort to ensure we had a great experience. They even took us on a coconut crab adventure.
The food was delicious and plentiful. However, diving capacities can be limited when the homestay is fully booked.
Overall, a wonderful stay with lovely hosts!

We had a really nice welcome by Astid when we arrived to the homestay. The bungalow was comfy and had its private bathroom which made a lot for us. Food was great, one of the best places we experienced , everything was nice and tidy. The “beach “ was alright but the snorkel not so good. To be honest we expected a bit more, the coral reef is a bit dead and there are funny currents you need to be aware of. For us the worst was the lack of communication when we wanted to dive , there wasn’t enough equipment neither dive master to cover all divers. It was disappointing to be honest. Another couple and us had to contact other dive center from the island next to ours. If the dives would be more organised the review would be 5 stars. Info on the website should be more accurate and I hope this will help to avoid other people being disappointed. Nevertheless we had a good time.

I stayed a full week in this beautiful and remote location. Jonas did a great job to make sure everyone had the best diving possible. Melissa’s garden and Rufus wall were the highlights. The easy access makes it possible to arrive early before the dive boats from further away in the central channel. There are also good snorkelling opportunities at the reefs around the islands nearby. Food was good and the staff nice, but shy. Bring mosquito repellent!

Here’s a polished version of your review:
I had a fantastic stay! The rooms were spacious, clean, and came with a large ensuite bathroom, providing great comfort. The location is perfect, with easy access to Piyanemo and dive sites like Melissa’s Garden and Anita’s Garden. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the area—would definitely stay again!

We stayed for three nights in late April of 2024. The grounds and the beach are beautiful, the people are very friendly and helpful, and our visit to Paynemo and Melissa’s garden was one of the highlights of the trip. The food was excellent and they made an effort to keep it varied. Be sure to bring along Google Translate or some basic Bahasa for communication.

I stayed in Aibaf homestay in March for 5 days, during a month-long trip around Raja Ampat, and Aibaf was definitely the nicest homestay i came across!
First of all, the island is really beautiful, in a tropical island resort kind of way (but keeping it well laid-back, raja style!), with incredibly nice views from the breezy restaurant terrace, crystal clear turquoise water, endless palm trees, and stunning sunrises (sunsets too, on the other side of the island, if you fancy a nice walk). It’s a shame the home reef is not in the best shape, but the constant presence of so many mantas makes up for it! I snorkeled with around 30 mantas one day just in front of the homestay, so i think i can tick the “great snorkeling box” even without much coral action going on.
I really liked the homestay as well: apart from the previously mentioned restaurant terrace (love), the bungalow i stayed in was super roomy and breezy, comfy bed, big patio with room for my hammock, and shade from the lush vegetation. I stayed in one the old bungalows and i loved it (also seemed much fresher than the new concrete ones, which are very pretty but definitely hotter). Food was also great! Different breakfast every day (yeeeah), good variety of tasty dishes and plenty of vegetarian options for me! Also quantities were very generous so thank you!
There’s a rat problem (well i only saw little mice), which didn’t really come to affect me as i was given a huge box on arrival and by storing everything in it nights went by smoothly! A little mouse came to visit on the first night and when he realised there was nothing for him he never showed up again 🙂
I generally don’t mind mice and i never keep food in my room anyways, but if it might be a problem for you just be aware of it! It doesn’t have anything to do with the cleanness of the place, or the willingness to get rid of the problem from the crew side: rats on islands are a problem eeeeeverywhere in the world and once the population is going it’s really hard to eradicate them. And Aibaf is the only homestay on the island so obviously the rats hang around an area with good food provisions 😉 was not an issue for me!
The diving was unbelievably good, Melissa’s garden is heaven on earth and i can die happy after having seen it. Jonas was super nice and fun and after i complained about the shortness of the first few dives (not his choice, one of the divers had a problem with his pressure gauge), we did the longest dives of my life ahah! Of course the diving center is not close at all to western safety/professionality standards, but it’s Raja Ampat, which is known to be a place for !!!!!experiences divers!!!!! for lots of reasons, from very strong currents to total lack of medical attention, no hyperbaric chamber, no oxygen kits, dangerous/delicate creatures on the reef to be treated respectfully…. so i’d say, from my experience, that the diving center is a typical example of how homestays run the diving business and if you are an experienced diver as you should be in Raja Ampat (never going to stop repeating it) then it’s all good and fun! They had the nicest equipment of all homestays i came across also.
So definitely a great experience! I’m planning to go back to Raja next year and Aibaf is a homestay i will surely be repeating 😉
Thanks Felix and Jonas and the rest of the crew!

The island itself is a little paradise: white sand beaches, turquoise water, palm trees, lot’s of shade… From the beach and the restaurant you can see manta and baby sharks. The hosts can take you to the manta by boat so you can swim with them which was amazing! In general the hosts and staff are very friendly.
However, they have a rat problem at the island. If you ask them, the hosts can provide you with huge boxes and you should store everything in there. Rats were running around in our bungalow for most of the night which was disturbing.
We chose Aibaf mainly because of the dive center. We don’t mind when a dive center is not super professional and also we didn’t mind that their boat is not really suitable for diving. However, we did mind that our guide did not seem experienced at all. We felt like he did not know the underwater hand gestures and also wasn’t really familiar with the dive sites. We do not recommend diving with them as a beginner because we don’t think they are prepared for emergencies. On the positive side: the dive sites were beautiful and one of our dives was 84 minutes long which we appreciated a lot.

Beautiful location
Beautiful location
I spent one in week at Aibaf and was my best week of the whole holidays.
Beautiful sandy beach and interesting house reef. Amazing swimming with mantas.
Confortable bed and bungalow. Good food.
I was afraid to go diving because I am a beginner and Jonas took care of me and I had the perfect day in Melissa’s garden and Rufas.
They are building new concrete vip bungalows and working hard on developing the diving center.
A new beautiful and professional boat for diving is on the way.
I totally recommend this homestay. Thank you Felix and Cathy

This could be a really beautiful place, if it will be looked after with a little more attention in the future.
On the positive side: the island of the homestay is really beautiful and the sea is just as cristal clear as it looks on the picturea. There has always been a cool breeze which was really nice to relax while not on trips or during the night. The food, too, was ok. And we did two beautiful snorkeling trips to Rufas(!) and Fam Wall. We were told by other guests that they did even see Coconut Crabs on the island.
However, there is unfortunately quite a rat situation at Aibaf. We were prepared since other guests told us but even hanging our bags from the roof and from trees wasn’t succesful. And you could hear and see them all night long in the roof and on the floor.
We really hope they manage to get rid of the problem because it could be a really nice hideaway.

The island of the homestay is beautiful and the accommodation itself is as well. Big bungalows with enough space and a big comfortable bed. Unfortunately there were a few things which didn’t work as expected. Most of them wouldn’t have been a problem if they communicated clearly from the beginning. So take the critique as you want and If you’re on relaxed island time you’ll still have a great time at Aibaf.
First of all it’s called a diving home stay but they are not prepared (yet) if all or even most of their guest want to dive. There wasn’t enough equipment (tanks, weights ect.) for the capacity of the homestay, so they needed to pick up the missing equipment from other places.
The organisation is not professional as on our inquiry a few weeks beforehand we were told that we could dive on all 3 days of our visit. When we were there, we were only able to dive on one day because of the election.
The diving instructors are really nice and trying their best but did not handle the group well in strong currents. Also there were people in the group touching and pulling the corals which they did nothing about.
Furthermore the boat prices are not explained well on this website. They have a rule that only two divers can be on each boat. So you can only share the cost between two people. Each diving spot also must be payed separately. If you go to two dive spots next to each other in the same boat ride you’ll still have to pay both separately. They have their own reasons for that but it did not make much sense for us. For our diving day they made an exception for this as everybody was already annoyed because we were not able to dive for 2 days.
The food was quite good most of the time but just not enough, especially for 10 adults who were swimming the whole day. We weren’t starving but we all would have liked to eat more.
Last but not least we had a rat nest in our roof. On our demand to get rid of the nest, the staff didn’t react, so we had to just deal with a rat living with us for the time of our stay.

we stayed in the vip rooms and they are very nice in concrete, with a nice patio and real shower. the food is delicious , we are vegan and every meal we had a special tempeh or tofu dish cooked specially for us. thanks to Jonas , the captain and the crew, we had a nice tours, Piaynemo, the view, the snorkelling, they also brought us to swim with the mantas, one in a lifetime experience!

At Aibaf Pam Dive Homestay, lovingly managed by Feliks and his family, we found a simple yet very clean accommodation. The detail-oriented care, such as the cleaning of the mosquito nets, and the daily cleaning of the beach and paths demonstrate the team’s commitment to a clean and welcoming environment.
The culinary offerings, characterized by traditional dishes with options for vegetarians and vegans, brought us joy every day. Getti, the cook, deserves special recognition for her continuous work and her warm demeanor.
The homestay offers a true refuge away from all the hustle and bustle, surrounded by impressive wildlife, including turtles, occasional visits from baby sharks, manta rays, and with luck, even dolphins. The newly opened dive center, under the knowledgeable direction of Jonas, provided us with exceptional diving and snorkeling experiences that truly thrilled us.
Feliks and his team consistently went out of their way to fulfill every wish, making our stay truly unforgettable. The combination of a secluded location, commitment to service, and the natural beauty makes this place a special experience.
Electricity is available starting with dinner for a few hours, and the mobile reception was surprisingly good.
Many thanks and warm regards from Theresa and Chris

Great homestay and definitely the place to stay if you want to see mantas. The dining room overlooking the beach is a fantastic place to relax and enjoy the views. Loved it here.

Booked for four night and extended to a week. Great homestay with mantas on the doorstep. Loved the diving. Food also good. Feliks and his team are always eager to make sure things go well. Our favourite dive was ‘Two Tuna Reef’, which you are guaranteed to see fish and not other divers! We will return one day

Absolutely nice! I stayed dive nights in Aibaf Homestay, last week and I had a lovely time doing snorkeling and relax. The food was very good (very, very good!) and plentiful, the beach in front of the hut beautiful and paceful… I didn’t have problem with my internet service (telkomsel), no problem at all in this paradise island ! Fredrik took me to Pyanemo, Rufus Island, Melissa’s garden and other spot for snorkeling, it was amazing and unforgettable!! But the best spot was the one with manta rays, really gorgeous!
Beautiful place to stay alone and surronded by nature (Remember your mosquito repellent).
Billion of stars are a stunning show in the night, sure I’ll came back!

I recently stayed at Bau Homestay and had the identical experience of the previous comment. Swimming with the mantas as described was the highlight of my Raja Ampat travels! This is the place to go as our boatman would go to find the mantas and come back to take us there. We swam with them around us until we were tired. What a thrill!
As well, I agree that the food was very good, but the mosquitos and sand flies were terrible. I had an electric bug racket which was a great help in clearing out the mosquitos from my mosquito net and the area around my chair in the dining room. It was very popular with the other guests as well.
Definitely worth this inconvenience to play with the mantas!

What a special place!
The homestay is located at an almost uninhabited island and has a very remote feeling. You are surrounded by palmtrees and the sea, it is quiet and tranquil.
The place is very well taken care off, the toilet (western) and shower are well cleaned and the area is daily swept and the beach cleaned.
The food is good and plentiful, the family is very friendly and helpful.
3 bungalows are on the beach without seaview (you are watching the palmtrees), one has seaview.
The best thing however of this place is its location.
The house reef is okeeish but the bay is a hidden gem!
It is full of underwater life: daily we saw dolphins and mantas passing by from our restaurant!
There are some fine reefs close by in the area where you can do some really good snorkeling.
However the big draw here are without a doubt the mantas!!
They live here permanently and the people from Bau homestay know where to find them.
Twice a day we went an a boattrip, they were never far away. Every time we could swim with them. Sometimes for ages! And they got often so close that i was afraid to involuntarily touch them… They are curious and stayed around us for long while feeding.
Because this is not a cleaning station but they are feeding here you can get so close to them as a snorkler! For us this was magic and without a doubt our best experience of our whole trip through raja ampat!
It comes with a price though: the place is full of mosquitos and sandflies so bring enough insect repellent.
You will soon forget about these bugs though when you encounter the manta magic.
Highly recommended!!

We, ines and kai, stayed almost a week her e and it was a real relaxing and very pleasant time. The location is very pretty and well kept. We were mostly in touch with Jonas, the guide, and he is a very nice guy and he and the rest of the team are doing their very best to make your stay as good as possible. The Bungalows are cozy, the dining hut is amazing and the kitchen is 5 stars (like the whole place..) we can absolutely recommend staying here !!! One very important tip: bring loads of mosquito- repellent, you’ll need it….
Hi. Do you remember if towels were provided?

Hi. Do you remember if towels were provided?
In february I stayed four nights in this homestay together with my friend Sara. We had a wonderful stay! It was the best homestay we stayed in during our 3 week trip to Raja Ampat.
It is quite a new homestay, so it is in a very good shape. The room was clean, and so were the toilet and washing facilities. The dining area is fantastic with the best view over the ocean, and nice constant breeze. Food was very good and plentiful. Wonderful breakfasts also! The owners were very friendly and service minded, but they did not speak very much English. A relative of the family who spoke English, and lived nearby in the village on Pam Island, came out every day to Bau to take us for snorkeling trips, together with the owner and his oldest son. The relative / guide was also a really nice person! We also made a great trip to Piyanemo, which was only about 1 hour boat ride from Bau (by long boat).
We could watch mantas swimming just off the beach of the homestay, while having our meal, and the host family brought us to swim with the mantas close to the homestay. Such a wonderful experience!!
It is a beutiful spot and a great place to spend a vacation! My friend and I would love to come back there some day!

We have been here for three nights and now back in Europe we are still dreaming about this amazing place. For us it was really the best homestay.
It is a very new homestay with lovely decoration and the owners there keep it very clean. Our bed was very comfortable and the rooms look definitley like on the pictures.
Our meals were very good. Of course, the food consists mostly of rice, fish and vegetables like on the most islands, but we really appreciated that we also got noodles and omelette. If you want some coconuts, just ask, they are very delicious!
Outside on the beach they have comfortable wodden deck chairs. It is the perfect place to read a book in the shadow of the trees with a beautiful view on the ocean!
The best place for snorkeling on the beach was on the right hand side of the landing place of their boats.
The people there are very friendly. The owner’s oldest son (his name is Benjamin) is the one, who speaks a bit english. Together with Benjamin, his father and his two younger brothers (maybe 14 and 8 years old) we made our snorkeling trips. Benjamin and his younger brother accompanied us during our snorkeling trips and showed us all the places.
We made two snorkeling trips to coral reefs. One was Miosba which was like a 10 minute boat ride away. Unfortunately we cant remember the name from the second reef but it was also only like a 10 – 15 minute boat ride. But both were really beautifuk. Next to beautiful coralls and fishes we have also seen manta and turtles.
The very best of this homestay is that directly in front of their beach only 5 minutes by boat there live mantas. The family can bring you to the spot. Together with benjamin and his brother you just jump into the water and you dont need to swim a lot. The current floats you and suddenly the mantas are
passing by. The mantas came quite near to us, like 2 meters and there were so many of them! After the current floated us too far away they just brought us back to the spot and we jump again into the water. We made it three times. On our way back to the homestay we got suddenly accompanied by a swarm of dolphins jumping out of the water. For us it was the best trip during our stay in raja ampat.
(Because it isn’t mentioned in the table with the trips: just ask for the mantas. We paid in total 300.000 IDR for the trip and we think it is very reasonable.)
One day we have been to Piaynemo. It is not very far away from the bau homestay. It is a very beautiful place. Next to the normal entry and view point the showed us also another viewpoint. If you go there, better take good shoes, enough water and sun creme with you!
(As on Piaynemo is a radio mast you have there very good internet connection)
At the end of our review we really want to thank Benjamin and his family for our beautiful stay. We will come back for sure!
(last information:
– Antoher local told us that the word “bau” is the indonesian word for “manta” 😉
– The phone signal is ok for sms. The internet connection worked very rarely. We recieved suddenly some messages in whatsapp, but that only happend two or three times. But to be honest: we enjoyed it that we werent available all the time.)
